Are people not picking Githyanki really because they're ugly or are they just shit races with bad passives? Dragonborn are ugly too, but they're near the top.

Githyanki are literally ugly alien frogs.
Dragonborn are super cool dragons and the default Dark Urge is an iconic dragonborn.
So it's just because they're ugly?
Not really. Githyanki in DnD are usually the evil mob. It's pretty funny that the game paints Orpheus as some sort of messiah freedom fighter when he and his mother actually want to enslave all non-gith
Most of the people playing this game will know nothing about Giths. It's definitely mostly based on looks. People are going for the most human like races with dragobnborn being so high because it's the durge default. It's also why Lae'zel is the least picked origin. People like to play as good looking characters.
Pretty sure dragonborn is high because of furries and the exotic race crowd. If people were just using defaults, Larian would have their dream of most human players being black women but the stats show people do do edits.
>because of furries and the exotic race crowd
Was there ever any doubt?
It even sort of mentions that once the Githyanki have slaughtered every last ghaik then they're going to try to enact their own plane-spanning Empire, basically not any different from the Grand Design that Krang longs to bring back.
And to think this butthole got all up in his high horse to criticize us for keeping him bound after his people started attacking at our own damn camp. Ill sell that gith egg all over again and more.
>le heckin epic good good bois lizzardinos XDDD
go back
Dark Urge is the evil path, if anything its
>le heckin epic evil evil bois lizzardinos XDDD
Isnt Durge customizable?
It is, but white dragonborn is the default and is what most people will think of for a dark urge playthrough.
White dragonborn just works.
Githyanki are ugy but have really good racials.
> that sharp drop off for the shorter races
Her look says it all
>manlets
Doesn't appeal to the normalgay fans because it's not a human or elf. Doesn't appeal to the furries because it's not Dragonborn or some animal race. Doesn't appeal to SJWs because it's not muh oppressed Tieflings.
So it misses all three major player groups.
For me, it's Drow.
I was going to make a Drow. Is ranger a good pick for them?
because a party member is already gith. its not complicated.
I couldn't understand why no player clerics despite it being one of the most OP classes to play until I realized shadowheart is one.
Was playing gnome and it was glorious. I usually avoid manlet races, but it was so funny watching my little guy kicking out doors, sucker punching BIGGERS in cutscenes and get tossed by Karlach right into the enemies in combat. Sex scenes were also too funny.
But I was really impressed how they made me feel gnome questline with Bark Root quite personal. At the end I was really feeling like some kind of gnome legend hero.
10/10 game would play again
Nobody has ever heard of Githyanki before this game so no one really had an ideas beforehand, meanwhile Dragonborns are very popular and just about every DnD player has had an OC for one at some point.
I haven't paid attention to DnD since 3.5, and have since moved to 2e. I remember the different Giths from Planescape Torment.
Why?
Back when Brood War was new my B-Net account was named Githyanki
People routinely assumed I was an American
>Nobody has ever heard of Githyanki before this game
They've been part of D & D since the Fiend Folio, a supplemental book for A D & D.
But they've never been playable, and even people who love Planescape Torment generally doesn't know/remember that Dak'kon was Githzerai and don't know the difference between the gith.
In fact if Larian hadn't gone for the mindflayers/brain as the big bad, they wouldn't ever have touched the githyanki. The fact that they're such a minimal part of the storyline when they could have taken you to the astral plane and Tu'narath is just wasted potential.
the gith were a central plot element in NWN2
Bro who the frick in their right mind played NWN2.
"Nose not found" looks much better than "failed rhinoplasty"
this graph is a dog whistle for white supremacy, please shut it down.
Mechanically the Giths are actually pretty able and powerful.
I'm playing one just to give Swen credit for going overboard with player reactivity.
They are really good for martial character but people pick them less because they are ass ugly. Lae'Zel is best girl thougheverbeit.
>Lae'Zel is best girl
Wrong.
filtered
Yeah, by her ugliness. She's also a c**t.
I'll give you that her kind of b***hyness is an acquired taste but she's based and cool.
They have the best racials in the game.
>They have the best racials in the game.
Hard to top Deep Gnomes. But Giths are up there.
That is not Duergar
I just don't like how skinny and frail they are. I did just make a new gith monk for my 2nd playthrough though because I want to do a hardcore gith loyalist/racist character and basically duo the entire game with lazel
>Are people not picking Githyanki really because they're ugly
THAT is the body of a race that conquered the galaxy?
No, it's the body of a race that successfully rebelled against a better race that conquered the galaxy, but then failed to take control of the empire themselves and now sulk in space, accomplishing nothing.
Dragonborn look like the perfect fit for dark urge. No surprise people pick them
Half orc look ugly but their racials are godlike
Githyanki look ugly and their passives suck. On top their lore does not make for good RP. Frick that shit
If you pick anything other than human, you are a homosexual.
Yes, and welcome to the DnD world!
This is how its always been at the table too.
>players all pick humans or elves
>otherwise they pick tieflings (red donut steel humans)
>otherwise they pick Dragonborn
It makes sense. Dragonborn are walking dragons, dragons are one half of DnD. And dragons are cool.
Ironically despite having a massive roster of weird and unique races, most people just stick to what they know. The devs saw this coming and made the Githyanki really strong to compensate (like how the ass-ugly Orcs in Skyrim get the best racial feat for non-wizard characters).
But its all for naught. Badass dragon men or cute elf girls could have -2 for each stat across the board and 99% of players would still pick them. Because appearances matter more than stats for everyone except min/maxers and competitive players
You can make an ugly human or elf so what's the problem with people picking what they want?
Why is it always criticism against people who want to play the more well-known races rather than praise the company for providing additional races for the minority? You won't here me b***hing the frick out because they added gnomes. I won't pick them but its pretty cool that the option is there.
>uuuugh why cant they pick MY flavor of options
Good lord you people are insufferable as frick.
Dragonborn are cool. Also they have one of the worst racials in the entire game lol
what is their racial?
a non-scaling breath weapon
sleepingface
they may as well have just recycled the Lizard from DivOS2. At best, it can be practical for environment interactions but BG3 isnt as indepth in that regard as OS2
iirc it actually scales now, and the cooldown went from long to short rest
still ass but slightly less ass
know nothing of bg or DnD, went gith cause i wanted to make a wizard and they had the mage hand spell by default which sounded cool as well as that custom stat boost ability which is nice.
I made one.
It's not the greatest roleplaying experience. Your character just acts like you're a rando dirt farmer from Faerûn and that you know nothing about Gith culture. You even have to get Lae'zel to translate the language for you when you find the Orphic discs.
The [Githyanki] race dialogues are very few and far between and are constantly at odds with the rest of the things you say (neither the good, evil or "funny" choices really fit a race that shouldn't canonically give a shit about istik business).
9 out of 10 times the Gith dialogue option just another way of initiating an attack. Yeah yeah, Gith are very warlike but that's really all there is to it and they don't add anything interesting you don't get from the basic dialogue lines at all. The game seems to assume you were picked up in Baldur's Gate, when you would have been part of the gith attack force in the intro.
The final kicker is that with the abysmal selection of voices, my character keeps going "No one back home will believe this".
homieyanki you live in the Astral Plane, I think people back home would be inclined to believe you saw a fricking gnoll.
>homieyanki you live in the Astral Plane,
kek'd
Dragonborn are the worst race mechanically. All Dragonborn players are picking Dragonborn from a place of genuine passion and are based.
Is Durge playthrough worth it? I'm pretty much only interested in playing this game one time with Dark Urge and that's it.
Durge is literally just Tav+, there is no point to playing Tav over Durge unless you really REALLY don't want to do the Alfira loophole
Durge is so fricking good, especially as a good boy Durge that resists being a baddie.
There's literally no point playing reddit urge unless you're a soi homosexual like this
one.
>HEHE SO HECKIN FUNNY WHOLESOME LIZARD HECKING WANA KILL XDDD RIGHT FELLOW GAYMERS?
keep in mind if you choose not to play Durge this is the kind of person you'll find yourself in the company of
>launch-BG3 humans that high
>"Durrrrr, could it be 'cuz a da PASSIVES???"
Dragonborn aren't ugly, because their facial structure makes no efforts to look human. Githyanki have fricked-up noses, but other than that, they're Star Trek's idea of a non-human. They're horribly ugly, and their body types are some kind of weird stringy, lanky, hyper-lean that's a huge turn-off to practically everyone on the planet. Dragonborn can at least look cool.
they have excellent passives and a bunch of race specific gear that makes them even better
but they are also butt ugly
I didn't hold on to any of the gith gear because it's shitty compared to the things you find in Act 3.
Which is a shame because you'd really think that gear specifically made for Gith players should be better for them than the typical gear anyone can use.
I mean "2-6 additional psychic damage" or some shit? Yeah I think I'll take the extra 3AC and 2-5 radiant damage armor instead.
People just don't want to play as a race that consists of being an ugly, noseless, green, skinny, twig frick. Keep in mind that the Githyanki are also aggressive fricks who act like buttholes all the time. The dragonborn are also cool lizard people. You might think they're goofy in their own way, but believe it or not, there's a lot of people out there who think lizard races are cool.
You want to play as something green? Half-orc's cooler.
>1st place: pretty human
>2nd place: normal human
>3rd place: girly human
>4th place: dragon
oh no, how horribly predictable
>Girly
>no beard
that's a woman
Misty Step is probably my favorite racial but I won't play one because they're ugly.
Dragonborn because scalies. They are second only to furries.
the canon ending for the game is playing a githyanki monk, romancing laezel, freeing orpheus THE TRUE HEIR AND FLYING TOGETHER TO KILL THE LICH QUEEN AND NOT USING A SINGLE TADPOLE WHILE DOING IT
I havent played the game but i saw the opneing cutscene and it seemed to imply that Laezel is intended to be the central character
Sorta-kinda-a-little-bit, but not really. She's in the next pod over from the unseen person that gets POV-tadpoled. But yes, if any of the origin characters were picked as "canon", it'd be her.
Whenever I get this game, if I wasnt going with custom, I'd probably play as her tbh.
its better if you play as githyanki(a monk to be specific) and romance laezel and save her from the lich queens lies
>racials
They have some of the best racials
Githyanki are exceptionally visually unpleasant. Perhaps the most I've ever seen for an ayylmao race interpretation.
i thought of one but MAN do they look scrawny. Couldn't respect my fighter looking like a b***hass
My fighter gith has the dueling feat and uses a scimitar with nothing in the off-hand, like a proper raider.
Who in their right mind would want to play a midget
I like playing ugly races so I enjoy Gith. But I know I'm in the minority.
