>Recent JRPGs have been quite good
no, they have not. You are just getting used to the dumped down gameplay style.
Modern JRPG's feel like they're made in a board room by focus groups and modern WRPG's feel like they're made by mentally ill danger hairs with student loans. Gaming as a whole has only become worse.
Having played the "BESTEST RPG EVAR DEY DON'T MAKE EM LIKE DEY USED TO" Mass Effect 2 for the first time last year, I can safely that they are getting better, if anything. Literally every cRPG resurgance game, from PoE, to Pathfinder, to BG3, to Underrail, with sole exception of DOS1/2, were better than the millenial 00's tard holy trinaty of Mass Effect - KOTOR - Elder Scrolls.
The only thing that is happening is that Bathesda and Bioware are slowly rotting and sinking into the black depths of slop that even consoletards think is whack.
Mass Effect is 2 is mid and I won't pretend otherwise. >All "cities" are just 5 corridors with "cool" backgrounds >Every quest boils down to doing a really shit FPS segment >The overhyped "suicide mission" is a joke to prepare for properly unless you are a console-trog and this is your first RPG >Shitty resource collection minigame >Companions on the same tier of another-day-at-Bioware as Dragon Age Inquisition - some are good, others just mid >2 potemkin companions >Companion stories almost always get resolved in a single quest (of shitty FPS against braindead AI) >Story is competant but never leaves the "its da middle chapter" limit >le super awsome Shadow Broker quest is just a single straight corridor with a shitty "hit my weakspot" boss at the end >Literally the only source of actual replay value is romances, most aren't even good and are just there for alien sex fetish
The games legacy is a testament to the stupidity of late 00's early '10 era gamers and just how watered down and slop-like games became. Of course, morons like Ganker only noticed this later when their breasts were also cut.
This, but it's not limited to rpgs, but all genres suffered from it. As far as I'm concerned before ~1995 is a stone age, where developers tried and wanted, but couldn't due to tech limitation and their skill. Since ~1995 to ~2004 was a golden age where timeless masterpiece was being released every day and developers could properly fulfill their dreams and push boundaries.
But days of Xbox360 and ps3 were dark indeed. Everything fricking died then. Rpgs died, rts/strategy died. It felt like only bloom and brown moviegame shooters and action games were being released and they were shit even in their own genre.
Vidya industry is significantly better today. Even AAA games sometimes are Ok and more varied, AA games were revived, indies have it easier with all those engines and still can often be a nice surprise. Pozz cancer and inhuman monetization methods are bad, but games are still better than during xbox360/ps3 days.
Nobody says that about mass effect.
But bow that you mention it, the thing ME IS known for (well written and likable cast of companions) has actually gotten worse since then.
If BG3 is anything to go by, no >couldn't make their own system so they just copy/pasted a system from a tabletop game >that system is not well explained >that system is not necessarily good for a video game >party members are obnoxious and hateful >story is extremely generic, basically a fantasy take on the overdone alien invasion plot >modern RPGs are such shit that this trash is acclaimed like it's the second coming of Dragon Age: Origins
that's a problem with video games in general
Gay low-effort thread.
Anyone responding past this point is a shill or a moron. OP is both - expect him to self-bump.
Trying too hard there, kid.
Why do cats make aspies seethe so much?
Only indie games have any potential nowadays.
Yesn't. Glad to be of assistance
we've just seen RPGs peak with BG3, so yes all other RPGs from now on will be worse, why even bother.
yes
Recent JRPGs have been quite good but WRPGs are dropping hard.
>Recent JRPGs have been quite good
no, they have not. You are just getting used to the dumped down gameplay style.
Octopath Traveller II was great and had a great last boss, nothing dumped down about it. Probably the most challenging RPG boss I've ever faced.
Sure, it was a challenge for YOU
What did you think of it? Give some details of the strategies you used.
>Probably the most challenging RPG boss I've ever faced.
Bait
Name a single RPG with a more challenging boss fight and I'll say if it was easier.
And go ahead and give details of the strategies you used.
He's probably talking about the optional Galdera fight and not the actual final boss fight against Vide
Yes, he is more of a "real final boss" than an optional secret super boss.
Not in Octopath 2 (the game in question) he isn't

conspiracy time
It's all so tiresome
Why can't they just leave vidya alone
Gamergate was right.
Yes because the woke ideology is ruining everything.
>Are RPGs getting worse?
I rarely enjoy them as much, but I am not sure it's not because I am getting older.
Everything is getting worse.
Everything is worse. Competence crisis is very real.
Everything is getting worse
sage
everything is getting worse for you boomer....how is the back pain treating you gramps??

yeah, the xbox days were dark indeed.

>Since ~1995 to ~2004 was a golden age
Let me guess: You were born in 1985?
Uh, not saying you're right or wrong but how the frick did you know?
Best games are always from the years where you were young and impressionable. (But old enough to understand them.) So when you were 10-20.
Besides, 1995 was prehistory and they only started making good games in 2000. However, everything after 2010 is shit.
t. was born in 1990.
Jesus Christ nostalgiagays are the worst.
Nobody says that about mass effect.
But bow that you mention it, the thing ME IS known for (well written and likable cast of companions) has actually gotten worse since then.
no, they were always bad.
“Always bad” doesn’t contradict, and isn’t mutually exclusive with, “getting worse”
No peoples nostalgia is just moronicly powerful
No, pretty much every game released as part of and following the second CRPG renaissance has objectively improved on the genre.
If BG3 is anything to go by, no

dragon age origins is fricking garbage
“The characters aren’t nice to me at the beginning”
Anon discovers character arcs
This will always be the funniest recurrent complaint that I see on here.
But why should I care for someone who is simply unlikable jerk?
It is possible to write flawed characters that are likeable or at least bearable.
Why do you find it funny?
Were RPGs ever good?
Can games even be considered true RPGs?
Fallout 2 got pretty close to the genuine tabletop experience with the amount on Monty Python jokes.
Everything is getting worse. The collective dream is breaking down.
Dude in the last month alone we got Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield. RPG fanatics are eatin' GOOD.
Shit is only delicious for sub-humans like you.
You boomers are too old to be here
I don't think you realize how old this website is.
“this school was built in 2003 so i can still be in here”
This isn't a school.
Good joke
You have to be 18 to post here
