Depends on the game, most of the time they are more of meta memorization game due to devs having fetish for 1v1 online focus

      Anonymous

Let me guess. You also believe that fighting games are about combo memorization and that that is the hardest part.

        Anonymous

Memorizing the combos is the basis of competency in them and it's just fricking boring, the whole genre got obsoleted by 3D fighting games anyway and Naruto games are unironically superior to most of the 2D fighting games

          Anonymous

Can't you see what's common with the games you like? They are not popular or competitive enough. It's something that happens to every competitive game. When people get better the bad strategies will stop working out. Your Naruto game would become shittier than any of the games you mentioned if it had competitive people in it.

            Anonymous

The difference is that Naruto games aren't designed with online balance as first priority

And you think that Starcraft 1 or Warcraft 3 was? I remember Warcraft 3 having one fricking meta and no patches for 10+ years.

                >Starcraft 1

                >Warcraft 3
Carried mostly by team games and custom maps
In both cases you are also referring to games that are over two decades old, something that is irrelevant to the current state of RTS games

                Anonymous

The current state of rts games is that they're 'dead'. Only thing we have left is big franchises and remakes that rely on nostalgia and now some indies trying to become le new competitive rts like what diabotical tried to do with arena shooters.

Age of Empires IV. Watch this video before you do it though:

        ?si=-Ky1DPFLL-6Zc0yC

It's probably the best "beginners" (onboarding) video out there on RTS games since it's actually for beginners. I was recommended it here not long ago and whoever the anon was that did, thank you.

command and conquer generals zero hour

Starcraft 2 or age of empires 4, don't get scared by Starcraft proplayers or by AoE2 morons just start playing against the AI to see if you enjoy playing 1v1

Dawn of War and C&C 3 are my personal picks for a first time player. Red Alert 2 if you like things retro.

I hope you're trolling with those suggestions

      Warcraft 3
      AoE2
      Dawn of War
      Age of Mythology
SC 1 or 2 or both
I personally hate the PvP aspect of RTS games, it's extremely sweaty, tryhard and frustrating to the point you might as well spend that time either doing something actually enjoyable, or learning something useful
If you do want to play PvP I couldn't recommend one anyway because I have no idea which ones have a healthy community. I know SC2 is full of cheesers, but at least it should have enough players that matchmaking will take ages

my first game of ranked starcraft 2
    >get to go up against a diamond protoss
    >building my scvs and doing my build like I watched on YouTube
    >an early scouting probe comes in
    >one shots my scv
    >1 probe unstack into 12
    >wall me off from my mineral line by stacking and 1 shooting scvs
    >finished my barracks and had minerals for 1 marine
    >protoss leaves the game when marine completes
After 5 games I placed platinum 4 and felt like complete shit

I swear the bane of RTS games is how prevalent cheese strategies are at low levels
Macro games are the real meat of the genre but to get there you have to pass a humiliation ritual of fending off a thousand cheese attempts

The destructible rocks enforcing a 10 min no rush rule is also a fantastic way to train new players the wrong way on purpose so they're even more susceptible to this style of play in lower ranks.

        >SC2: WOL
        >Reapers still have demo charges
        >Always capture the center vision point with a couple of marines anticipating a rush so I can see when the enemy is coming
        >Keep 4-6 Reapers in reserve just outside the enemy base

        >Either the enemy attempts an all-in rush, 2/3s of the way to my base gets Reapers in his mineral line and has to break a walled off base or lose
        >Or he attempts to early expand and gets his base wrecked by reapers when he pushes out to protect it
        >Or he turtles/techs up, loses out because I expand faster and switch to MMM

I really miss reapers, I'll never forgive them for nerfing them so hard. Banshee rushes just aren't the same.
