I like that we're getting to explore more of Hingashi. I noticed we're still limited to the western island though, so i hold on to the hope that maybe in the future we'll get acess to the entire country.
Yes. Jobs have been dumbed down and homogenised because balancing hard. The patches get less and less content while also becoming more and more formulaic because making game hard. The cash shop. The quest design hasn't improved at all ever because quest design hard.
The entire game is just phoned in, it's like they're putting in less effort the more money they're making. The closest it's been too being an MMO was Eureka and Bozja, with Bozja having some of THE best content in the game bar none, and that's despite ShB being the first huge step in the great dumbening. They stopped caring and even if it's not technically maintenance mode, it sure feels like maintenance mode.

There's just very little reason to actively play the game between the expansion releases unless you're using it as a social outlet which is unironically the only reason the game hasn't actually died yet.

I agree and this comes from someone that has played since 2.0 and a bit in 1.0. There's no good content between savage raid and normal dungeons which is the easiest and boring shit ever. And it doesn't help that all gear becomes obsolete every 6 months or so, making your entire grind pointless.
So unless you savage raid there's like nothing to do in game, and gear doesn't do anything because there's no content that requires gear outside of savage. On top of all that all jobs are streamlined and feels boring to play, there's no job identity anymore and only like BLM is somewhat unique and still feels like a proper BLM.
At least in older expansion they tried doing new and interesting stuff, ARR introduced a lot of new stuff and even added a job during a patch cycle, HW was a bit lacking in content I have to say, but jobs been fun and interesting to play made it bearable and the game still being somewhat "fresh"
Then we got SB which was packed and packed with content and fun, by far the best expansion. Then we had ShB which slowed down on content and now we have EW which by far is the worst expansion so far in every regard.

I'm disappointed that we didn't get another 'Ishgaurd Restoration' like form of content. I would have liked to be able to turn in Potsherds from the Variant Dungeons for Relic materials. We still haven't gotten the 'New' Gold Saucer activity that was 'to the same level as mahjong'. Portraits are still pretty jank. With the second Variant Dungeons released, I was hoping for a new Roulette for it. I'm we can't 'craft' items/weapons/armour/furniture with the Island Sanctuary Workshops for use outside of the Island.

Yes, you literally can not do the fight because Ultimate Crossover doesn't just apply damage normally like other super attacks. It checks for tank LB status and kills you if you don't have it. The devs just decided this wasn't worth tinkering with because frick BLU.
They could very easily change Ultimate Crossover from checking only for LB3 to checking for Diamondback as well. That they won't even do that tells you how little of a shit they give.

The game is unironically in the worst state it has ever been since HW (when I started playing). This relic shit is just unacceptable, the devs are not even trying anymore. I am legit thinking of trying WoW to play with some friends, but the last time I played WoW was in WotLK. Is it even worth it?
No, it's not. It's not the same game, wotlk was the last time it was still something resembling the original vision. Play a pserver if you want it to resemble something you remember, but the pserver community is in shambles right now and probably won't recover for some time.

I dropped the game after finishing the Endwalker MSQ for the first time since 2.0 released. I haven't felt the itch to go back and decided to try other MMOs instead.
So far I've tried Black Desert, Archeage, Mabinogi, Old School Runescape, Phantasy Star Online 2, and Dungeons and Dragons Online.
I think I'm going to go back to Black Desert or Mabinogi, those two were the stand outs for me. Are there any others I should try? really leaning towards trying FFXI but I don't like pservers and don't want to pay monthly for a 20 year old game.
FFXI has a huge barrier to entry having to learn the controls and mechanical systems, and then that barrier gets even higher when you start min maxing
But if you enjoy any level of gear collecting autism for making multiple sets, the feel of adventuring in complex areas, or even just learning/playing with the unique traits of various jobs (they're much more varied than XIV) definitely give it a shot
The class design is one of the worst parts of the game. Truly, nothing is unique, and having to fit into burst windows is a really boring mechanic. Only a couple of classes have any real choices, and despite being more complex than something like vanilla WoW, it's a lot less interesting.
There's NOTHING to do in the world except daily hunts. There's NO REASON for better gear. PVP is actually a bit worse now because every class has what, 4 skills? It's dull, it's boring, it's a dress up game and they even added in some farmville for good measure.
There's just no reason to actually "play" the game because they have started to "respect the players time" so much that they just stopped making content, and people are praising them for making zero content because they don't actually like playing games.

Combine that with how many people don't ACTUALLY want to play games, yet want it to be part of their personality, it's extremely popular in the normalgay sphere and I keep seeing people calling it their "comfort food" game because it requires literally no effort outside of 4 bosses every 6 months.

It's hardly a game from the start. Those early missions were so drab and dry. It's so much busy work rather than an engaging experience.
I should have phrased it better. People are told that the game really blossoms after 50, but it never really does, and in fact gets less involved because at first you're being shown things like leves and various other systems that eventually become pointless. The game becomes hallway dungeons and POTD grinding later on, but you can't know that early on and it somewhat resembles a real MMO until later.

I never really got into WoW. Let alone play it when it still had a soul. Only really dabbled with it trying out Legion which I played super casual and only really did open world stuff and a few dungeons. Roommate took me through Ulduar and ICC, those were really cool visually.

well back in vanilla, sham and pally were bad at doing anything but healing at the high end
enhance shams were only good for soloing and ele combat shams went oom too fast, prot pallys couldn't hold threat and ret pallys did JACK SHIT for damage, but they were also both the buff classes, shaman gave totems and paladin gave blessings
i think the idea is that people would tolerate them kind of sucking because they provide buffs, but they also went and made them both really good healers

I don't know if the blessings worked the same as they did in Legion as they did in vanilla, but they were there and I did like that aspect. Paladin had a whole lot of flavor in the class, I can only image what was taken away during that time. My roomate told me they could meme on undead players once upon a time.

1.0 had issues. It was half a game, it ran like shit, they wasted dev time doing shit like redesigning the combat system multiple times or going back to add jumping because ADHD WoW kids needed a button to push while walking. There was something there though. Call it promise, call it soul, call it whatever, but it really felt their road to hell was paved with good intentions. 6.X is a special kinda suck and I will be impressed if they manage to make 7.X worse.
"HW job design" is a shit meme but DRK genuinely never played better than there and in fact one of the missteps of 4.X is how they fricked that job. I also like Diadem 1 more than 2 or 3. Alex raids were ludo, and as much as raid racers piss and shit themselves about A4S, A3S week 1 is fricking peak ff14. The content drought was certainly bad but I found it personally balanced by a story I like and fan service moments like Knights of the Round and the Warring Triad. 5.0 story was very high quality but the patch MSQ was weak, even 5.3 (though the trial was phenomenal) and the gutting of the gameplay systems left too foul a taste in my mouth.
I just hate the fricking 2 min burst job design. It makes me bored of the game faster than anything. And I fricking hate that it does. I probably wouldn't give a shit if I didn't play 2.0 or 3.0. Yea shit wasn't perfect, but damn I can't believe they can't give jobs something to do job-gameplaywise INBETWEEN burst windows.

Yes. Jobs have been dumbed down and homogenised because balancing hard. The patches get less and less content while also becoming more and more formulaic because making game hard. The cash shop. The quest design hasn't improved at all ever because quest design hard.
The entire game is just phoned in, it's like they're putting in less effort the more money they're making. The closest it's been too being an MMO was Eureka and Bozja, with Bozja having some of THE best content in the game bar none, and that's despite ShB being the first huge step in the great dumbening. They stopped caring and even if it's not technically maintenance mode, it sure feels like maintenance mode.

I agree and this comes from someone that has played since 2.0 and a bit in 1.0. There's no good content between savage raid and normal dungeons which is the easiest and boring shit ever. And it doesn't help that all gear becomes obsolete every 6 months or so, making your entire grind pointless.
So unless you savage raid there's like nothing to do in game, and gear doesn't do anything because there's no content that requires gear outside of savage. On top of all that all jobs are streamlined and feels boring to play, there's no job identity anymore and only like BLM is somewhat unique and still feels like a proper BLM.
At least in older expansion they tried doing new and interesting stuff, ARR introduced a lot of new stuff and even added a job during a patch cycle, HW was a bit lacking in content I have to say, but jobs been fun and interesting to play made it bearable and the game still being somewhat "fresh"
Then we got SB which was packed and packed with content and fun, by far the best expansion. Then we had ShB which slowed down on content and now we have EW which by far is the worst expansion so far in every regard.

I'm disappointed that we didn't get another 'Ishgaurd Restoration' like form of content. I would have liked to be able to turn in Potsherds from the Variant Dungeons for Relic materials. We still haven't gotten the 'New' Gold Saucer activity that was 'to the same level as mahjong'. Portraits are still pretty jank. With the second Variant Dungeons released, I was hoping for a new Roulette for it. I'm we can't 'craft' items/weapons/armour/furniture with the Island Sanctuary Workshops for use outside of the Island.

Yes, you literally can not do the fight because Ultimate Crossover doesn't just apply damage normally like other super attacks. It checks for tank LB status and kills you if you don't have it. The devs just decided this wasn't worth tinkering with because frick BLU.

I dropped the game after finishing the Endwalker MSQ for the first time since 2.0 released. I haven't felt the itch to go back and decided to try other MMOs instead.
So far I've tried Black Desert, Archeage, Mabinogi, Old School Runescape, Phantasy Star Online 2, and Dungeons and Dragons Online.
I think I'm going to go back to Black Desert or Mabinogi, those two were the stand outs for me. Are there any others I should try?
really leaning towards trying FFXI but I don't like pservers and don't want to pay monthly for a 20 year old game.
FFXI has a huge barrier to entry having to learn the controls and mechanical systems, and then that barrier gets even higher when you start min maxing
But if you enjoy any level of gear collecting autism for making multiple sets, the feel of adventuring in complex areas, or even just learning/playing with the unique traits of various jobs (they're much more varied than XIV) definitely give it a shot
The class design is one of the worst parts of the game. Truly, nothing is unique, and having to fit into burst windows is a really boring mechanic. Only a couple of classes have any real choices, and despite being more complex than something like vanilla WoW, it's a lot less interesting.
There's NOTHING to do in the world except daily hunts. There's NO REASON for better gear. PVP is actually a bit worse now because every class has what, 4 skills? It's dull, it's boring, it's a dress up game and they even added in some farmville for good measure.
There's just no reason to actually "play" the game because they have started to "respect the players time" so much that they just stopped making content, and people are praising them for making zero content because they don't actually like playing games.

It's hardly a game from the start. Those early missions were so drab and dry. It's so much busy work rather than an engaging experience.
I should have phrased it better. People are told that the game really blossoms after 50, but it never really does, and in fact gets less involved because at first you're being shown things like leves and various other systems that eventually become pointless. The game becomes hallway dungeons and POTD grinding later on, but you can't know that early on and it somewhat resembles a real MMO until later.

That's a really easy fix anon. Add a dps rotation when you aren't doing support/control. Even still, in CoH controllers (support/CC/healer mix) were very popular and usually pretty busy.
AST technically, ARR/HW Bard absolutely was a support. DNC and BRD are support adjacent, but are still mainly dps nowadays with a handful of support skills.

enhance shams were only good for soloing and ele combat shams went oom too fast, prot pallys couldn't hold threat and ret pallys did JACK SHIT for damage, but they were also both the buff classes, shaman gave totems and paladin gave blessings
i think the idea is that people would tolerate them kind of sucking because they provide buffs, but they also went and made them both really good healers
I don't know if the blessings worked the same as they did in Legion as they did in vanilla, but they were there and I did like that aspect. Paladin had a whole lot of flavor in the class, I can only image what was taken away during that time. My roomate told me they could meme on undead players once upon a time.

There was something there though. Call it promise, call it soul, call it whatever, but it really felt their road to hell was paved with good intentions. 6.X is a special kinda suck and I will be impressed if they manage to make 7.X worse.

"HW job design" is a shit meme but DRK genuinely never played better than there and in fact one of the missteps of 4.X is how they fricked that job. I also like Diadem 1 more than 2 or 3. Alex raids were ludo, and as much as raid racers piss and shit themselves about A4S, A3S week 1 is fricking peak ff14. The content drought was certainly bad but I found it personally balanced by a story I like and fan service moments like Knights of the Round and the Warring Triad. 5.0 story was very high quality but the patch MSQ was weak, even 5.3 (though the trial was phenomenal) and the gutting of the gameplay systems left too foul a taste in my mouth.
I just hate the fricking 2 min burst job design. It makes me bored of the game faster than anything. And I fricking hate that it does. I probably wouldn't give a shit if I didn't play 2.0 or 3.0.
