Are there any mmos with action combat? Like dark souls or more hack and slash like dmc or something? I’m just craving for that shit, jap shit more specifically but yeah, either side of the world will do, extra points if it’s in classic fantasy setting somewhat, have you guys seen shangri la frontier, something like that
ppl will lie to you and say black desert but dont listen to them the enemies dont fight back
TERA but the enemies were dumbed down and the player damage boosted to stupid levels for most of the game.
They fought back before they dumbed down the game. I played one of the Korean closed betas and it was pretty good. Such a disappointment after they changed it.
>instead of something like DMC
DMC has terrible combat. What the frick is wrong with you.

Seethe jugglershit. Worst "action" gameplay format. I don't play action games to be a clown.
DMC1 could come out tomorrow and still be better then 95% of action games
if there was I'd have been addicted years ago
Try Warframe, unistall if you dont like it
So borderlands and destiny are mmos too?
I'm also wondering this. Why do MMOs have the weird combat they do, instead of something like DMC?
they used to involve a large number of players interacting with each other and you had to deal with lag. You do see it in modern stuff but there were games with like 200 player sieges
now they put 4 players in an instance and call it an mmo so they can charge a monthly fee and have a cash shop
>100 player fps battle royale
You can't use lag as an excuse anymore, why are MMO combat systems still so shit?
Shooters can hide lag more than most genres because you aren't directly dealing trading blows between clients, you're shooting a local prediction of where the player is going to be. Melee action is way harder to get right.
Black Desert plays around combos with key inputs and a CC system, but to cut it short it's not worth it for either PvE or PvP. Otherwise you've some strictly PvE games that are actiony to also go off and they're also likely not going to be worth it for other reasons. PSO2 for instance is basically on life support and hardly worth touching today since it was an event-driven game, while its 'successor' in NGS is personally one of the worst games I've ever played.
The genre stems from technical limitations to put emphasis on interacting with a lot of people, however WoW indirectly did a lot of damage by taking after EverQuest but making it more accessible and then everyone else tried to copy that to some extent.
because dmc combat only makes sense when there are 1 to 4 players
also servers just will never handle large scale battles while keeping gameplay responsive
or maybe it was just mass brainrot from developers thinking they should use the same shit combat system other popular games had
>just launch enemy in the air and they can't do anything
it doesn't even make sense with one player
shit tier design
Are you moronic?
in this case you are the moronic one
>DMC combat is bad
>it doesn't make sense
You are moronic
it doesn't make sense in the sense that it is terrible design
anyone who likes it is moronic
put 30 dantes onto a map beating up on the same mob.
it wouldnt work for so many reasons.
visibility would suck. enemy tracking would suck as it would bounce around players.
it would open up a lot of cheesing as people not targeted by the boss could stand at range and mash their gun shots. more intricate mechanics like royal guard parries would be awkward as hell too when the enemy attention isnt on you specifically.
furthermore its not gameplay that adds to party play. you'd have 30 dantes coexisting but not really cooperating to do something.
so many factors like that is what lead to basic aggro management tank gameplay, circle dodging on the floor, doing gay dances to deal with mechanics and gameplay where its more about pressing stuff in order rather than reacting to things. you have to build the gameplay around the scale of the game.
Tera, I think
Tera felt like wow pretending to be an action game
well there arent many better options for MMOs to my knowledge,
Elder Scrolls Online
he didn't specify it had to be a good game...
Play Dragon's Dogma 1, it feels like an offline MMO anyways (that's literally what the creator wanted to make)
if its an actual mmo such gameplay wont work well.
devil may cry or dark souls were not designed with 50+ players on the field.
Literally DDO
I think a private server is in the works
Dungeon Fighter Online is probably as close as it gets.
This and even then its closer to a beat up em then a tru hack n slash
only mmos with cuhrayzee combat are Vindictus and Phantasy Star
koreans join a 4 payer server and go wow look at this massive number of people
Neither are MMOs. Well except NGS.
Not an MMO. Also the combat really isn't that good. It aged rather terribly.
PSO 1
mortal online 2
>Dark souls
>Action combat
Lmao
What would you call it then?
>he has souls brainrot
many such cases
Imagine a game where the combat is like Chivalry or Mordhau, but you get spells and shit. Like think of a bastard love child of an MMO, Dark and Darker and Chivalry with better mobility and more indepth magic casting. Where when fighting other players, skill matters and the gear disparity is flattened considerably, but when you start fighting enemies and bosses and shit is when stats and smaller details start to really matter. And yes, it'd all be in first person. t. Ideas Guy

Blue Protocol, but they ban all Gaijin unless your PC is squeaky clean and you run a VPS.
There's going to be a western release but Amazon is butchering it.
Blue protocol is falling even in japan so it's pretty much DoA in the west even without amazon's input
Try out Monster Hunter Frontier on a public server. Or make your own private server.
Hunsterverse and Rain are the most active, but Rain is fricking moronic and has OP gachas. Also no, you can't pay for said gachas, you gotta grind anyways.

>zoomies filtered by DMC
Why did I have to use DMC as an example? You guys can’t behave, let’s say monster hunter and get on with it, I just want something more action other than left click, dodge aoe attack by clicking somewhere and click on boost key
>let’s say monster hunter
Yeah nice try homosexual bet you're one of those World only kind of newbies!
But really, there are none that are good as far as I know, Tera was alright before it croaked.
I wish someone would take Tera's combat and put it in a good game.
>get into FF XIV
>didn't like it
>explain my issues
>people say my issues are just how MMOs are now and to play them properly i need a time machine
Fug
say my issues are just how MMOs are now and to play them properly i need a time machine
This is accurate. The genre is effectively dead. The 20+ year old games that are still running are shadows of their old selves and any "MMO" made after about 2005 is utter garbage.
You missed out and there's no way to go back. I'm hoping for some sort of resurgence in the genre but it's not something you can count on. If it happens it happens.
Suppose it depends on your issues but you should keep in mind that FFXIV isn't an MMO, it's an online JRPG
Blade and Soul. Complex, hard and engaging as frick, to me the best MMO combat ever made, playing as Kung fu master was the best, but if you will play it, play on private server because new versions suck
There's BnS NEO on the horizon which I think is their answer to WoW classic from what little I've seen of it
No clue when it's actually coming out though
late spring/summer
However good the combat was doesn't fix the rest of the game which was your standard Korean take on a WoW style quest humping snorefest.
True, at one point it was good, because you didn't have that much gear to care of, but then they added so much bullshit to grind it was moronic
