are there any modern traditional hack n slash games? I think the last one to come out was soulstice, I guess you could consider something like ff16 a hack n slash but it's more rpg than games like blood will tell, bujingai, nanobreaker, etc.

does it have to be a good game?
if not, devil may cry 5
soulstice came out after dmc5 and considering the games mentioned it should be kinda obvious that the biggest and most well known series in the genre is something I have already played.
that's a nioh/souls clone not a hack n slash
Stellar Blade will release in a few days
what is a hack and slash then?
Not Soulshit that's for sure
yeah it's hard for younger people to tell the difference. they see a sword and think "oh hey an hack n slash". I noticed the same problem when someone said that nioh was the new way of the samurai. and yes I asked if they played wots and they said no but because they both had samurai in it that anon assumed it was the same thing.
3rd person camera that follows the flow of the action none of this over the shoulder nonsense, emphasis is placed on speed and stringing together combos against a group of enemies, controls are mapped to the face buttons. souls games are basically real time iterations of classic turn based combat, the focus is on pattern recognition and the stamina bar is effectively an atb bar from ff. the controls are mapped to the shoulder buttons instead of the face buttons because the combat doesn't focus on speed or combos but attacks of opportunity. granted nioh has normal controls but if you try going full combo you die almost immediately.
Katana Zero is 2D Shinobi
You again anon?
shinobi is a 2d shinobi
shinobi and nightshade for the PS2 are not side scrollers, I understand that shinobi was originally a side scrolling game. nta by the way
Get out of my head. I just started playing Chaos Legion yesterday.
It's shit.
I know. The joke reply was:
Shinobi is a shinobi shinobi
yeah I'm mean traditional in the scene of 6th gen like the games mentioned. side scrollers are a different animal. they aren't bad by any means but not what I'm looking for or even really play outside of games like castlevania or sakuna.
shinobi is so kino, goes to show that style and presentation can carry a game farther than a deep combat system
the combat in shinobi is really good imo
100% agreed, but also people wank off "muh depth" a little too much too. I love a good deep action game, but a good simple action game is just as good.
>100% agreed, but also people wank off "muh depth
Says the one who shits on Soulshit for not having depth.
Action game fans are huge hypocrites when you think about it.
>Says the one who shits on Soulshit for not having depth.
I've never done that tho??
>Action game fan
>Not hating the frick out of the Souls genre
Double faced hypocrite homosexuals
You know anon, you could hate the frick out of Souls games (I don't, although I don't enjoy them either) without shitting on them "for not having depth".
>you're a hypocrite for hating souls
>"actually I don't hate souls"
>fricking hypocrite
?????????
You're lying about not hating Souls to save face when you were called out on your hypocrisy.
To be fair I should have called you a liar so I stand corrected
I really could not give a shit about saving face on an anonymous basket weaving forum, you seem to be suffering from some sort of cognitive dissonance.
nta or the other anon, but I only played blood borne for like an hour before dropping it. I wouldn't know enough to say if souls games lack depth or even challenge but I personally don't like that combat system or control scheme. they are their own distinct genre very much separated from the hack n slash genre.
Senran Kagura is unironically fun albeit grindy.
isn't that a musou?
Most of them are, and very shitty too, being more barebones than even PS2 musou titles.
Senran simply happens to be one of Ganker's holy cows due to having big titted moe anime girls.
musou games are pretty different compared to hack n slash games in the style of things like ninja gaiden, shinobi ps2, rygar ps2, bujingai etc.
>Trying to reason with a coomer
I am a coomer you dumbfrick troonera tourist, I'm just saying they're a different subgenre.
just to clarify this post is mine
this post is not mine
Only one coming out I know would be indie game called Enenra.

Generally genre is unfortunately pretty fricking dead like majority of genres. At best we might get another cinematic experience ARPG button masher with some juggling instead of proper trad hack n slash game.
yeah I noticed a few indie games like mahou arms and project katora, they look pretty fun but I'm hoping they get a physical release
How is Shinobi traditional when you just built up the one-shots? In fact what is a 'traditional' hack'N'slash that's not just a mid 2000s DMC clone?
Fair assessment, I think op was referring to shitty rpg systems stapled on to it
