are there any other games you use your warhammer minis for? Maybe D&D? I hate the idea of only buying GamesWorkshop merch for rape prices to only play official warhammer games with.

Buy a 3d printer. A decent one is like 400 bucks, its cheaper than two combat patrols and you can print anything you want for anything. Plus modern gw models are all technically recasts of 3d prints anyway, the new fw sons of horus guy has visible printer lines on him in his webstore photos
That's what I plan to do, I just want to know what types of games people are playing.
My dream is finding a local shop where everyone plays an earlier/simplified edition just for fun. I hate my local GW store because the dyed hair shill inside keeps trying to make me play bloodbowl.
One page rules. Grimdark Future.
How much money in resin do you spend on a single space marine, realistically? It's obviously much cheaper but I never really got an idea of how much.
>its cheaper than two combat patrols
... No? A Patrol box is $160. Do you really need me to multiply that for two for you so you can figure out it's $80 cheaper?
By all means, go ahead and invest in a good printer, but at least get your numbers straight.
shut up homosexual
Been running the 40k rpgs off and on since 2010. I also use my cultists in call of cthulu sometimes. Also use my skeletons and soulblught units in dnd games when I use undead.

Xenos Rampant is a pretty good platoon to company size scifi 'generic' that lets you do a lot of 40k things without all the bloat and crap while still having some engaging list building and gameplay.
OPR is very very shrimplified 40k, with its entire purpose being off brand lite beer warhammer. Not my thing but seems like lots of people like it and their list building program is suppose to be quite good.
Renegade Scout is a retroclone/homage to Rogue Trader and 2nd edition 40k. It has a few offshoots or variations like Shoot People In Space or Squadhammer.
After that there's an entire wackfrick of scifi wargames you can use the models for but are less 1:1 ports, but there are also a lot of great scifi and fantasy models that aren't GW.
Using miniatures for rpgs is mid. I hear good things about 4e/Strike! or Savage Worlds, both built with more of a skirmish wargame idea but its not my thing. ymmv.
There is Xenos Rampant like anon at
said, Warhammer 40k RPG and One Page Rules and those are the only games I can think of. Would love to know more.
>would love to know more
They are literally in the post you already linked moronkun.
My bad anon. Thank you for pointing out that I might be rightfully big dumb.
Everybody derps.
/awg/ will have more options if you ask nicely.

Then don't buy their fricking merch, moron.
There are plenty of sci-fi wargames you can play with them.
I've used my Infinity minis in my cyberpunk GURPS game once before.
I use mine exclusively in Five Parsecs From Home!
But there's quite a few really good miniature agnostic wargames. Heard good stuff about Stargrave too.
You can use mini agnostic systems but 40K minis are pretty distinctive, so it'll probably still feel like you're playing "rip-off 40k", so to speak. Not that this is really a problem if you have more fun with a different system and friends to play it with.
What if I told you that you could buy miniatures for 50 cents a pop and have tons of rulesets to choose from instead of hoping GW doesn't screw over your favorite game/faction?
That's, uh, sweet, anon.
>buy more things
>hope gw doesn't do the meanbad
They already have the miniatures and are interested in using them for non-gw games moronkun#2.
Doesn't exclude the possibility of buying other miniatures like victrix and using them for whatever game they want, but damn learn how to read.
You can use aos minis in just about any fantasy setting.
I just finished up a campaign of Five Leagues From the Borderlands with a friend, we played for a year and a half twice a month only skipping for vacations.
There's a ton of other small-press games with different rules & vibes; one of them you may even enjoy more than WH/D&D.
Pro tip: If you find a game you want to try but don't have minis that fit the vibe, there's nothing stopping you from reskinning the game to suit your existing collection.
