Not really. They aren't terrible, but are just extremely boring.
I feel like this is pretty common problem with games made by fans who want to recreate feel of classic games, or just make something that's just very solid mechanically.
Generally they do succeed, what I've seen of Rollin' Rascal looks fun to play, but the character design is so meh. Same goes for Penny's Big Breakaway, the game itself looks great but protagonist's design is just kinda lame. All these indie devs should pay an artist to design their character. I don't even mean some big-name designer, but just hire some good indie artist to do the job. There's plenty of those on Twitter and Pixiv.
Out of recent memory, Corn Kidz 64 and Pseudoregalia had actually good character designs that stuck with me.
They look like uninspired indie slop protagonists. If they're supposed to be barrels, then just go the full mile and make them wooden, Pinocchio-style dolls. If they're supposed to be monkeys, then make them more monkey-like.
>write up story for game >design characters myself that people seem to like >plan out bosses, maps, upgrades, etc >too moronic to code and not enough time to learn
It hurts
no
Yes, they look like they came from a ps1 platformer
No. simply because the the nothing on the top of the head. Put a hat on. A tuft of hair out the front. Fricking anything. It's unsettling.
I would frick dragons, robots, erotic plants, aliens, slime creatures, wendigos and demons, but I don't think I would frick those things.
They look like something out of a How to Draw Manga book, or an episode of a show with an anime parody in it.
only if they kiss.
Their heads are really badly designed. You can't just make a stupid head and think its quirkiness is enough to sell a character.
No
They’re worse than Spark and that’s saying something
Slightly generic but fine enough.
They better bone
no
i thought they were bad the moment i saw them
homie looks bald with dumb ears
No, people are brutal about male characters that look like they're balding

I think she looks LAME.
Unappealing, which is worse.
Who are these sentient onaholes?

It takes years to develop a game, don't these people consider the fact that it's literally all for nothing if the main character designs are bad?
Looks AI generated so no

They look like knockoff Snorks.
But at least the gameplay seems fine. Need to play the demo and see for myself later.
