>Kanto with the gen 3 tileset/soundfont looks and sounds like shit
>The Sevii islands are cool but not nearly enough to justify a full remake
These aren't really bad by any means but I probably see these games talked about the least of any set of games in the franchise, despite being Kanto AND the first remake ever done.

people don't want to admit it but the remakes these games have the most in common with is BDSP. A couple new bells & whistles here and there, but largely the same shit. But at least FRLG don't look like they were made in a Roblox engine.

Something about them always felt kind of empty to me, or off, they aren't bad but sitting on the same system as RSE doesn't make them look good either.

Kanto just isn't that interesting anymore, LGPE are the most fun way to play through it because it looks nice and you can just have a fun breeze through it, but FRLG as mentioned feel painfully bland sitting next to the Hoenn games.

Agreed. It's the GBA widescreen. You see more in the screen but there isn't much to see in the first place (OG thing).

they’re better than the hoenn games easily. better deoxys forms, actual post game that’s not tower clone slop, no johto numon cancer like marill infesting the regions grass, better safari zone, better sprites, better designed region (7HMs vs 8), vs seeker instead of shitty phone call rematches, elite 4 rematches

    peak of the series

Wasn't there code discovered in the games which suggests that the Sevii Islands were cut from ~30 different areas to 7? The theory that GameFreak scaled down plans in order to synchronize everything up holds weight even in regard to the Gen 3 era. If FRLG had an actual postgame with facilities and more encounters it'd definitely be up there with Emerald, Platinum, HGSS, and B2W2 due to that alone. But with the way they released, they certainly don't feel like fully fleshed out entries with which to build/maintain a collection, but rather like a side campaign you can do for specific encounters to transfer to other Gen 3 games/Gen 4. Admittedly, though, Kanto with the sleek Gen 3 movement and running shoes feels snappy and nice.

Are there any firered romhacks that actually adds 30 islands instead of seven?

        Anonymous

No; I think the discovered areas in the code were just unfinished empty pure water-tile canvasses. But they were labeled into the ~20s.

I only recently learned that you could get Larvitar in FRLG's postgame. Unfortunately it's one of the very, very few cool non-Kanto Pokemon you could actually get. Diamond and Pearl vastly improved upon Gen 3, it having better postgame national dex encounters with the PokeRadar, postgame areas, and mass outbreaks.

Restraining things to the Kanto dex was "faithful", but it left some shortcomings in game design.
    >Only 1 ghost-type line
    >Only 1 steel-type line
    >Only 1 dragon-type line
    >No dark-type lines

How can Sinnoh be shunned for its fire type shortage with this kind of precedent?

Also, why are the Psyduck, Shellder, Staryu, and Slopoke lines version exclusives?

      Anonymous

Being cucked out of Slowpoke was the first because it was the one line needed for dex completion missing for someone who ones one Kanto game and Emerald they forgot to put in GoD.

Here's all of the catchable Pokemon in a single copy of LeafGreen. Without trade evos especially, one really does have barebones options in an in-game playthrough.

They are bland but in a good way, it is a pure Pokemon experience without cutscenes and useless scripts. I find FR/LG really easy to pick up and play, unlike a lot of the others games.
The new sprites for the Kantomon looks clean as frick and the soundtrack has way more instruments than in R/S, better drums and electric guitar.

There's still recency bias for LGPE, but that will definitely become the most forgettable games in the series, even with how unique it is

FRLG are the most replayed games in the series and have by far the largest ROMhack scene. They're the second least forgettable games after the original games they were based on.

I mean at worst, any discussion of them gets rolled into Kanto discussion since Gamefreak were more autistic about "faithfulness" then for Johto and Hoenn.

the problem with gen 3 in general is that its mechanics and graphics are extremely outdated but it doesn't have the retro charm of the gameboy titles.
the only thing gen 3 has going for it at this point is romhacks.

The problem with gen 2 in general is that its mechanics and graphics are extremely ugly and it doens't have the polish or charm of gen 3 and 5.
the only thing gen 2 has going for it is Kingdra. Scizor, Tyranitar, Politoed and Steelix.

    >In the day just read as an apology to people who couldn't transfer their mons to Hoenn
Gen 3, including FRLG, were not made for old fans, they were made for a new fans after Pokemania died. It was all a big "frick you" to everyone who abandoned the franchise and it succeeded in turning a dead trend into a franchise.
