blatantly unfair though it may be, i refuse to believe Ganker is so tasteless as to say it has no value in playing. fear and hunger is a great game for masochists who enjoy that kind of oppressive atmosphere and the feeling of constantly needing to be on one's toes, and who can enjoy a little story in their vidya.
The atmosphere, world and lore is absolutley top notch for what I believe has been done by a single dev.
The game suffers from extremely front loaded difficulty which drops off significantly after you've got a full party, access to multiple safe places for saving and resources to manage your fear and hunger.
i'll never forget the first time i played the game, when i entered the middle area as soon as i noticed the wolves, and barely survived the first encounter of what i thought was both of them, only to realize that there were actually 4 wolves, 2 for each sprite. the growls were beautifully off-putting. i'll agree that it drops off significantly at a certain point, and i probably should have picked my words differently, but i like to intentionally limit myself wherever feasible to maintain that feeling when i play games in general. it isn't constant, but where it is present, it is quite potent, so that's good.
In Chapter 1 I would have absolutely agreed with you. Chapter 2 rocked me a lot harder and I was too stubborn to change.
How did you first time in hard turn out? I started on Hard because I really liked the set up and thought the infinite lives were lame, but it kinda soured everything for me after a while.
Hate to use the meme but just git gud.
The map and the enemies location are randomized for this very purpose. Yeah having to restart sucks but at least it doesn't ruin the core gameplay.
The night sections, supposedly the most tense aspect of the game become technically the easiest since you basically just respawn the next morning with your loot right next to you
underrail is kino
i wish the expansion had allowed me to kidnap trival women to sell them as sex slaves in core city slums
but all you can do with the savages is genocide them
Underrail is nothing but combat corridors after combat corridors. The entire fricking game is combat and combat oriented. It's not like the Fallout games. Don't let anyone fool you.
Underrail is basically Fallout in the sense that Pokemon Showdown is Pokemon. That's about it.
maybe, no, and no
save darkwood for october it's worth a try
undertale is pretty alright
last one no idea
yeah undertale is great, i cried when the skeleton man died
Is you like CRPGs yes, if not, no
I enjoyed playing darkwood in the dark with dungeon synth (especially fief) as background music.
If you like dungeon synth you might enjoy Northern Journey?
yes if you hate yourself
Fear and hunger is the only blatantly unfair game there, the others are actually designed with some thought.
Never played darkwood but underrail is pretty unfair as well, or atleast unbalanced. Big fan of both games tho

Is there a mod for fear and hunger that lets you save at any time? The save system it has just isn’t good.
>The save system it has just isn’t good
You can save at a bed, just clear the area of monsters before taking a nap.
Darkwood is great, but don't play it on hard your first time. Unless you really enjoy anguish over every loss. I have a great regret.
Don't listen to this gay. Anything less than hard ruins the game.

I agree, I like that aspect and I finished the game without reducing the difficulty.
But the anguish was great and I'm not sure it was worth it.
Yes, yes, and I don't know
underrail is kino

More games should have the option to sell women as sex slaves or just straight up rape them, I hate only having the option to kill them.
yes, yes, dunno.
no idea about the rest but darkwood is very good
Name good indies that aren’t normalgay troony shit & are actually obscure outside Ganker
Darkwood and fear & hunger.
Underrail
In addition to what those anons said, Battle Brothers and Age of Decadence are both masterpieces

no, no, yes
Underrail and Darkwood are two of my favorite games ever
I plan on playing Hunger & Fear at some point
