I think it's because it's such an unnecessary feature to have the game commenting to you about the goings-on in the game. I'd expect that in an RPG, but it's weird in a platformer.

It would be tolerable if it was a couple of times per stage but its literally every 5 seconds there's a fricking flower saying something. It gets old really quickly and becomes annoying even faster.

Marvel has made people tired of quips in general so people have an aversion to them.
There is a meaningful difference between these flowers and typical Marvel quips that IS significant - namely that the flowers typically are sincere and whimsical, while Marvel quipping is typically sarcastic and "self aware". But I don't ultimately fault people for just being tired of "funny one liners" in general.
I won't bother trying to give a long-winded, logical explanation, but they're just cringe, and if you didn't get that sensation of cringe you're part of the problem and need to kys you're self.
