are ultra wide gaming monitors a meme for gaming? Before I pull the trigger on one I just want to know. The monitors I have now are from 9 years ago and I'm looking to upgrade

Almost no games support it well because almost nobody has these. But if you're one of those who plays a handful of games and nothing else, enjoy your ultrawide.
depends on what you want it for and what you'll play on it.
that's a lie, literal boomer knowledge. those few games that aren't supported very likely have program to fix it.
Enjoy your stretched or out of place UI, distortion, and objects popping in and out of existence.
Almost all AAA support ultrawide.
What the frick you are talking about?
I've played significantly more games that do support it than I have those that don't. And when a game doesn't, there's either an official fix or I just play it anyway with bars on the sides.
they are definitely ultra gay, mang
That depends entirely on what kind of games you intend to play
Many games have either official or unofficial ultrawide support but the quality will vary wildly.
I played Subnautica with an ultrawide monitor and it was incredibly immersive, but other games will have noticeable popin or other visual issues as a result of forcing the wider aspect ratio.
I personally don't think it's worth the money, not when you could get a superior 16:9 monitor instead, but there are some use cases that justify it.
I play alot of rts and fps gamesbut ive been playing tarkov lately
i have one and never use it, play on my 4k tv almost exclusively
This for me too.
I love my ultrawide for work and shitposting multitasking.
For games it's also great if I can reach 144FPS (it help that games running this fast almost always support ultrawide ratios as well) and use black frame insertion mode, but most of the time I game on my OLED TV instead. And I sometimes run them in 21:9 (21:10 custom res if I can) because the higher natural FOV you get is really fricking nice depending on the game.
>A-a-a-almost no games support it
Here's Sonic Mania in ultrawide just to show you how wrong this shitty argument is. Even when a game doesn't support 21:9 some autist will mod it anyway.
My bigger point is that PC monitors in general shouldn't be your main gaming display because they have shit motion and picture quality compared to bigger and cheaper TVs, so the question doesn't really matter if OP is looking for purchase recommendations: I don't recommend any gaming monitors, simple as, unless it has a Blurbuster certification and even they can blew it sometimes.
Finally, 32:9 (or super ultrawides) are a complete meme because it's too wide and they cause too much FOV distortion. Even on 21:9 ratio, you shouldn't use 120 FOV setting on top of that around 100 is just enough.
Looks like Sonic on easy mode?
Do you update often? Wait for the next gen and try to get a panasonic tv
Frick yes.
I did tons of research on this before landing on an LG C2.
1. Majority of games have no ultra wide so you're getting black bars on the side
2. Of the games that DO have ultra wide, half implement it incorrectly (zoomed in, UI Is fricked, FOV fricked etc)
It's just not worth it. It's like buying a 16:10 monitor for gaming.
Any game that anyone actually plays is going to support it unless its something like Overwatch where the devs refuse to support it for PVP balance reasons.
Damn overwatch doesn't support it? Sounds stupid considering other comp games do
A stupid forced esport mentality.
Overwatch 2 does, 1 didn't.
overwatch literally does have it, in fact it is only games I've seen do LITERAL 21:9 support
ultrawides are actually 43∶18 but everyone just says 21:9, so even playing overwatch on an ultrawide will have slight tiny black bars on the sides
>Majority of games have no ultra wide so you're getting black bars on the side
In old games, yeah. Not true at all anymore.
>yeah. Not true at all anymore
Old games. Like basically anything before 2018. So like A MAJORITY OF GAMES
wrong
Stuff before 2009, I guess. Frick off with your 2018 year.
Congrat on your C2 anon. That's ultimately what I recommend too.
Remember to use oled motion pro for 60fps games.
>I have the alienware oled I bought for $1100
I'm so fricking sorry anon
In honetly love my C2.
Best purchase I've made in a while.
>Can do ultra wide
>Perfect scaling for retro games and shaders
>Hdr for some games looks fantastic
>Even withou hdr it makes games look beautiful as frick
>The response time makes it feel fricking snappier than my 165hz 1ms led monitor for some reason
Beautiful.Beautiful.beautiful.
Really nice
I'm happy with my C1 myself and I think I want another one. I'm just waiting to see if the C3 is any good and maybe a 40" model
>OLED meme
>muh deepest black
You can't be serious.
Burn-in within 6 months, ESPECIALLY if you use it as your main monitor. Planned obsolescence scam.
I have the alienware oled I bought for $1100 and it’s not worth it. Most modern games only sloppily support it. Black bars during cutscenes, fricked UI you can’t change, no way to change the FOV or vignette effect, etc. When it works, like in Plague Tale Requiem or Callisto Protocol (shit game I know), it’s super immersive. Only get it, if you also play lots of indies, because for whatever reason indies and AA do a heck of a better job supporting the Ultra than AAA games do.
Ultrawide is useless because the PS5 doesn't support it
You can always just put the game in 16:9 mode and game with black bars. Get the ultrawide it’s more immersive.
For the price of 1 ultrawide monitor, buy 3 normal monitors and play 3 different games in each of them.
then buy 6 more monitors to play 6 more games in each of them, for a total of 81 games.
I have an odyssey neo g9 and it fricking pisses me off if the UI is at the edge of the screen.
Other than that I regret nothing, but I assume you look into standard ultrawide screens so you'll probably be fine.
You always have the option to play on 16:9 if the game doesn't support your resolution.
Thinking about getting this monitor, https://geizhals.de/philips-momentum-279m1rv-a2558235.html?hloc=at&hloc=de but https://versus.com/en/asus-tuf-gaming-vg28uql1a-28-vs-philips-momentum-279m1rv-27 says it's worse than https://geizhals.de/asus-tuf-gaming-vg28uql1a-90lm0780-b01170-a2596721.html?hloc=at&hloc=de because it doesn't have PiP and PaP. Are they necessary for a PC monitor or a meme?
Don’t get ASUS trust me they source their screens from cheaper 3rd parties. Buy directly from a manufacturer that specializes in display screen technology like LG. I would get the Phillips if I were you.
Thanks.
No problem glad I could be of help.
This is bait, right? How fricking big do you think the average ultrawide is? I have to pan my eyes at the most, I've literally never had to turn my head to see anything on screen.
I don't even need to move my eyes to see everything on my screen.
Pic?
Thx
Ultra wide monitors are absolute fricking shit for anything because of the constant screen tearing and fricked up super wide resolution that most software isn't designed for, so everything either looks weird and fricked up, or you have tons of screen tearing, flickers, dead pixels, etc.
moron, what the frick are you talking about
Ultrawide? Oh, you mean manlet monitors. Yeah, they're a meme.
some troony is coping and seething
I HECKING LOOOOOOVE ULTRAWIDE MONITORS!
It’s called having a neck fatty. Also I position my ultrawide a least 2.5 feet away.
Ultrawides add more image to your view. It's great.
If it is so great then why no pro gamer uses it? Why don't they even use 1440p? Why do they use tiny 1080p screens? Surely their sponsors would be more than willing to make them shill new monitors?
>pro gamer
What does that have to do with anything?
ehh it has to do with it being great and good.
If you're delusional, I guess. You know WoW has an FOV command, right?
>If you're delusional, I guess. You know WoW has an FOV command, right?
What? You don't have to do anything. It just works.
>It just works.
Why didn't you buy a mac then?
No games
>now show a movie that wasn't shot in 4:3
I love. Technically anything above 1080p 60fps is considered a meme. Make your own decision. Unofficial UW patches work fine.
Oh wow look, ultrawide is objective an advantage
Ultrawides are amazing, worth every penny.
For gaming, it's super immersive on games that support them. I have a secondary monitor 16:9 for games that don't. But worst case you could just game on the ultrawide at 16:9 but you'll get black borders on the side.
For productive, it's incredible. You see so much and really increases productivity. Blender, video editing, programming, gamedev, etc, IMO an ultrawide is a necessity for productivity.
For YouTube and video watching, generally okay. Most videos are 16:9 so you'll see black borders on the side. But some movies are 21:9 which looks REALLY nice.
Bro, where's the other half of your monitor? You should complain.
"""programming"""
do a 16:9 4k at the bottom
Also peeking corner in games is basically like cheating if it supports ultrawide.
once you try the 38'' 4k Ultrawide you will never go back to a regular monitor. Just a warning because it's perfection in both immersion and fidelity.
16:10 is the jam
other aspects need not apply
Lol 16:10 is a dead format. Looks like someone owns a monitor from 14 years ago
how the frick do you deal with dead pixel on your brand new expensive monitor out of the box fresh if warranty doesn't covers it?
Return it?
