Looks surprisingly good for an open world game, for a Bamco anime game, and for an ILCA game. Perhaps the team just really loved the source material, or they figured some shit out. The environments still look pretty drab but the vehicle/mech stuff being the focus helps a lot.
Just did a background check, they have two new subsidiary studios one for Pokemon and one for Ace Combat, and have also been making and doing graphics support for anime games like this one on basically a year's dev cycle. For one studio it sounds like they've stretched themselves incredibly thin over a short time. They've clearly taken pages out of the Game Freak rulebook, cheaply made hacked together slop released every year.
Most being the important word there. Toriyama's name being on it instantly gives it notoriety the world over. It won't do crazy numbers like some recent DB games but I expect it to easily make back more than its clearly low-mid range budget.

Game devs need to teach their players better. Yellow paint is a lazy but somewhat effective solution to the issue of conveyance.
The demo confused and worried me a lot. Left me wondering how empty the game would be and whether or not the vehicle customization would actually be any fun or meaningful.
Then it turns out the full game is actually way different. Is, rather becomes rather open, but has distinct progression points. And if you up the difficulty, the vehicle customization actually matters. And it's fun.
The demo should have allowed you to play up to spino or something. And then maybe had a separate open segment detached from the main game. I dunno.
Saying Toriyama made DQ and Chrono is a massive stretch. He's more of a celebrity artist hire they based the entire style around to draw attention to their games.
It's Toriyama action, humor and writing with an art style that matches it, it has cool mech stuff, and the characters are really enjoyable. It's not a mystery.

I only just got out of the "tutorial" but it's fun enough and about what I expected. It's responsive and functional, but not super deep. The vehicles are fun and upgrading them will be the bread and butter of the game.

The demo was kind of meh because it was just a test ground for the vehicles, but the trailer look like there is a lot of story and stuff going on.

I think Sandland has set a new standard for anime based game cause it really expands on everything.
In terms of storytelling, yeah it's great. I just wish the gameplay was a little less casual because it has some great ideas.
How is the gameplay? I played the demo but you only had three vehicles and any sort of progression or customization of your characters was locked.

I only just got out of the "tutorial" but it's fun enough and about what I expected. It's responsive and functional, but not super deep. The vehicles are fun and upgrading them will be the bread and butter of the game.

It hadn’t occurred to me while watching the episode. But I don’t think he was aware of what would happen to himself if he sucked it all up. So it easily could’ve backfired on him and resulted in that instead.
