The thing is the games were good. They were weird and they didn't deliver maybe on what people expected from them but they were unique and played out pretty interestingly.

They really weren't. You couldn't even die in the sequels and in the first game you had to go out of your way to ever die.

i'm going to agree with you on this one.
it put fun new stuff in the game, but forgot like half the fun stuff from the first game.
got rid of the bosses, and only gave us "big enemy that later will become a mob". that was bullshit, and they ported it to fable 3 too.
gave us reaver, but not enough reaver, nor the other heroes, in that regard.
being morally evil wasn't half as rewarding as it was in Fable 1.

and what is with the ending choice too, a bunch of money, everyone comes back to life, or your little dog companion back.
the story beats seem like they were just Fable 1 but worse. at one point you get jailed up in the spire like the prison sequence from the first one.
there's also points where it seems like you're a side character and npcs are the main characters instead. Fable 2 felt nice to try the first time, but eventually I think if you're being objective about it you have to admit it's kinda terrible.

They weren't very good honestly, but they were unique and memorable in a time games were getting a bit stale. Even ignoring Molineux's bullshit, it was (and still is) easy to see how you could take the first Fable game and improve it's more lacking qualities while keeping it's quirks.
Then 2 happened. And then then Fable 3 happened.
What I'm trying to say is that it was a franchise full of obvious potential that was never really fulfilled. Trying to recapture that, so many years after the original, and with a new studio is a recipe for disaster.

It's hard to even comprehend how fricking awful this reboot is going to be.

Maybe some of you forgot the extent of how much Peter Molyneux lied about this game. Most people on here are hypocrites with major double standards to ignore it all. You'll even give Sean Murray/Hello Games shit for falsely advertising NMS, despite them actually atoning for it in some way. That's not what happened here, and yet this game is praised.

Todd Howard gets called a lying piece of shit all the time by anons here but they fail to realize Peter lied way harder than Todd ever did. Anons don't remember or maybe they were too young back then but the promises about Fable had me believing this shit was going to be the greatest game of all time. The promises that were broken were staggering. Perhaps the most famous of promises was being able to plant a tree and from that tree a Forrest would grow in the game world over time. The fricker promised this super immersive almost scientific in how it worked fantasy RPG that didn't come anywhere close to delivering on those promises.

You still have a responsibility to not lie about projects you are working on. Especially when you are the lead producer. Peter did this all the time until he spiraled down into irrelevancy. Too bad for him he was just a bit too early in his career I think. Had he came around now he'd probably thrive even better than he did back then. What the hell is he even up to these days? Last I remember of him was his moronic internet game.

He was literally the ideas guy that was given chances to lead development on games. His games are still good but he was definitely a massive hype man first and foremost.

On the other hand, Fable did things that still haven't been implemented in other games. Like the technology for holding hands and walking around with other NPCs, most modern games don't give you remotely the same amount of freedom of interaction with NPCs that fable did.

I've made a list of known lies about fable 1. Some of what I've listed here is hard to find in quotes nowadays mainly because a lot of this got lost with the old internet when certain sites shut down, there's a video below that backs one of these points up.
        >"Yes, you'll be able to plant an acorn and then watch it grow into a magnificent Oak tree throughout the course of the game."
        >One of the lionhead devs posted about the game on their fourms saying he got lost in the woods for multiple game days apparently while searching for a legendary weapon (exaggerating the game's scale)
        >you can marry and have children
        >You can have children that will become the main playable character if your main character dies
        >you can go anywhere: no fenced areas
        >you can do virtually anything (moly gave examples of poisoning a town's water supply or burning down a house with someone inside it)
        >Going out at night will turn your skin pale like a vampire if you don't get enough sunlight/stay out night all the time
        >NPCs can "steal" your open quests and complete them before you do
        >gangs of villagers will hunt you down once you become famous/infamous
        >you can carve your initials into a tree and see them ten years later
        >your behavior as a child will have a big impact on the future of Albion
        >every leaf of every tree being a physics object
        >every tree in the game being made to be completely different
        >A revenge system; the sons of those you had killed would, eventually, grow and train to become lethal warriors, tracking you down for vengeance.
        >Real time aging, including deaths due to natural causes
        >Your enemies would attack your family/house if you became a noble hero
        >you would grow from a child to adult (in reality it was just an in game tutorial that lasted for a short duration)

Well yeah i was at the time. Or close to early teenager. So i was reading gaming news on the internet and video game magazines by that point. Two more lies i vaguely remember, but can't list as known lies because i have a harder time remembering his wording of it is: Peter telling you that you could turn into a into a balverine. Another is that you could take any weapon, make it amazing and powerful, and the weapon itself would become famous.

Yeah, because a lot of the lies got buried. Most of the internet you know from back around the time Fable released is completely gone, you'd be surprised about how you can't find anymore. You have to go through Wayback Machine just to find a small fraction of it really, and even then you can't find everything and it's just a limited snapshot. I'm right to call out hypocrisy though because even on their own forums at Lionhead they got called out for the excessive lies at the time. There's a lot of old forum threads i can't show you because it's just not backed up anyway.
