Sad because the core part of the game actually looks servicable. The developers did their job with what was handed to them. Higher ups and troons in the company destroyed them. But there isn't any reason to be sad about this. Everyone and their mother was expecting the game to be a massive flop for months. The beta which the devs were generous in giving out invites to had less than 2k players at peak. Better to kill it in its crib than waste more money marketing it and trying to give it post-launch support.
The funds to make the game dried up and they decided the cost of marketing the product and maintaining the servers would be greater than the expected sales of the game.

These corporations are completely out of touch with their consumer base. Anyone with any sense could tell you this or other similar looking/feeling games look awful and would flop. No amount of focus group testing or shillfarms on reddit will make up for the average person's opinion.

Sad because the core part of the game actually looks servicable. The developers did their job with what was handed to them. Higher ups and troons in the company destroyed them. But there isn't any reason to be sad about this. At the end of the day, the developers got paid their salary, and the higher ups and troons will continue to get even more raises to cause even more destruction in the industry.
