the community manager definitely not but there's no reason why a concept artist or a level designer who work on video games can't call themselves a gamedev.
Concept artists are not devs, they are artists. The level designer could at least be argued to be "developing" levels, but the other two are not doing anything "dev" related..
Is this supposed to prove the last panel wrong? Game development is the industry, you are not a game developer yourself unless you're doing solo or 70%+ of the work
Ive made snake from scratch so yes. The top two panels are eh. I would say theyre useless garbage because > concept
frick off and make the actual art assets > level designer
Frick off and build levels.
If what you do isnt an asset in the game you are not a game developer. I have more respect for the writers than people that dont make assets because the story basically is an asset in the game.
anyone who can create actual game content can also design
people in design jobs are usually too stupid or lazy to do the hard part
in short they arent needed
>i work at company, that means I'm a gamedev
Community managers are all hacks. They think that they are just as important as people who actually work on the game, when their role is to be a glorified secretary that only has to answer emails and read twitter and reddit, maybe a dedicated BBS if they have one.
If they are "devs" then so is the accountant, so is the attorney, so is HR, and so is the janitor.
Being on the company payroll doesn't include you in the team, they'd survive without you with your role being contracted out to a 3rd party. Its simply more convenient to keep that relationship internal.
They put babies in the credits, they'll put (YOU) in the credits.
If the role does not contribute to the creation of the game directly, its not development.
I'm sure someone has already made this observation but I'll make it anyway
Game dev is derived from software developer, so I see the term as being anyone that makes changes to the project's source files
So someone that creates 3D models of plates is not a game dev, but the person who imports them into the project is a game dev
And if you're thinking "Wow that's bullshit the modeler put way more work in than the guy dragging and dropping an .obj file" well it's almost like game dev is just a role and not some badge of honor
Saying you're a concept artist who works on games is correct, and it's not an insult to say they're not game devs, as you'd be correct
Can you explain to me more about the tester and for which studio?
- When do you test the game, in which development phase and how do you give feedback?
- How did you get the job?
I don't understand what sort of strawman this is trying to convey. I'm not autistic enough I guess.
But yeah, I'm /gamedev/. I'm working on a tactical RPG based off one of my tabletop campaigns. I'll probably release it on itch.io in a couple years when I've completed it. It's a lot of work though, holy shit. Not only do I have to do all the coding, but I also do all the art, music, etc..
Ive been pondering if I should start a Patreon so I can afford to hire people to help so I can get this game finished sooner.
Something along the lines of >i am too fricking lazy to take pictures of trees and drink coffee can we hire someone else to do it God I hate doing favors for my black coworker who doesn't use normal vocabulary
Meanwhile hes an ESL with gigas of disappointment
Why do i get the impression that whoever made this is a community manager trying to be part of the team? Because i have never seen anyone claiming level designers are not game developers
The community manager has no right to call herself a "Game dev".
She has contributed absolutely nothing to developing the game herself. Even the playtester is closer to a game dev than the community manager.
The community manager is the real game developers lowly servant. A wageslave slaving away for miserable pay, because she is too stupid, weak and lazy for a REAL job.
He became a game dev because he hates games
Its just like ten years ago when business administration homosexuals who thought games are for losers and homosexuals called the shots in gaming, but worse.
Actually just tried to get AI to make a sprite sheet for me. Came out with something that looks kind of like one, but doesn't actually function as one.
>concept artist
yes >level-designer
yes >community manager
no, has never been. Community manager is a low paid outsider who does shitty jobs that would be a waste of time for the actual developers. This is why it's usually a fan cause it's a shitty job with a shitty pay.
>another "the bad guy makes total sense for anyone who has a triple digit IQ, but is portrayed as a baby while i'm the cool and collected chad" webcomic
Yawn, you will never be a gamedev
This copemic was drawn by the community manager, wasn’t it?
No, you are not a gamedev, t.industry concept artist. I wouldn’t even consider myself a dev, all I provide are designs other people who actually are devs convert into in-game assets.
Yes. I play games, that makes me a gamedev.
the community manager definitely not but there's no reason why a concept artist or a level designer who work on video games can't call themselves a gamedev.
The community managers always make it sound like they're the ones calling the shots.
Concept artists are not devs, they are artists. The level designer could at least be argued to be "developing" levels, but the other two are not doing anything "dev" related..
they can larp as being as useful as developers all they want, wont stop them getting laid off and the actual devs not
>islamic troon with a massive mustache
lol
Those are supposed to be glasses
No. I get paid to play game, not make them.
Is this supposed to prove the last panel wrong? Game development is the industry, you are not a game developer yourself unless you're doing solo or 70%+ of the work
Yes, I devaluate games by shitting on them on mongorian basket weaving forums, thus gamedev
Still closer to actual gamedev than all the community managers, kek
Ive made snake from scratch so yes. The top two panels are eh. I would say theyre useless garbage because

Man, I wish I had four arms too. But at least I don't have to wear a hijab while browsing twitter all day.
>i work at company, that means I'm a gamedev

Counter point: those are usually on a game's credits, so they must be gamedevs.
They put babies in the credits, they'll put (YOU) in the credits.
If the role does not contribute to the creation of the game directly, its not development.

Also holy shit the comic artist is terrible
I make forum posts about games so I'm basically gamedev right?
I worked as a tester once so yes I am a Gamedev
Can you explain to me more about the tester and for which studio?
- When do you test the game, in which development phase and how do you give feedback?
- How did you get the job?
>I AM SILLY!
G@M3rZ is right and so is the level designer
QA are gamedevs.
I don't understand what sort of strawman this is trying to convey. I'm not autistic enough I guess.

>GIGAS OF TREES
Fellas: are you a gamedev if you're a concept artist who calls GB's "GIGAS"?
Who the frick doesn't just say 'gigs'?
I don't get this one at all.
Something along the lines of
>i am too fricking lazy to take pictures of trees and drink coffee can we hire someone else to do it God I hate doing favors for my black coworker who doesn't use normal vocabulary
Meanwhile hes an ESL with gigas of disappointment
>have you been at
why is it so important for you to claim and announce the title of gamedev
so you can kiss their feet for bestowing you with their wonderful game
here's a better approach:
make a good game and let other people refer to you as a gamedev
its a lot more fulfilling
Why do i get the impression that whoever made this is a community manager trying to be part of the team? Because i have never seen anyone claiming level designers are not game developers
He's a concept artist at Ubisoft.
His art is dogshit.
>He's a concept artist at Ubisoft.
Now that makes a lot more sense.
I thought he was an Indie dev.
I'm no gamedev but I want to be one badly. For starters I'll teach anons like u how to draw much better than this troon slop
The community manager has no right to call herself a "Game dev".

The community manager is the real game developers lowly servant. A wageslave slaving away for miserable pay, because she is too stupid, weak and lazy for a REAL job.
Also frick this artist. He clearly hates gamers, so why did he even become a game dev? He should quit being a game dev and go work at a burger joint.
He became a game dev because he hates games
Its just like ten years ago when business administration homosexuals who thought games are for losers and homosexuals called the shots in gaming, but worse.
So... he became a dev... to actively ruin gaming???
Yes, so even if a decent game like BG3 gets made it will be filled with troony shit out of spite (they dont do any actual development)
Unrelated but can I use AI to help me make a game all on my own yet? Asking for a friend of course
Actually just tried to get AI to make a sprite sheet for me. Came out with something that looks kind of like one, but doesn't actually function as one.
For use in Walking Simulator.
use every single one for your walking animation.
Works on my machine.
I’m a level artist who bully level designers into letting me do whatever I want
It’s pretty awesome
There is something about this artstyle that makes it difficult to read
>concept artist
yes
>level-designer
yes
>community manager
no, has never been. Community manager is a low paid outsider who does shitty jobs that would be a waste of time for the actual developers. This is why it's usually a fan cause it's a shitty job with a shitty pay.
Level designer is absolutely gamedev.
Concept artist, eh, not really.
Community manager, absolutely not.
Comic artist, absolutely a homosexual.
Are writers gamedevs?
>another "the bad guy makes total sense for anyone who has a triple digit IQ, but is portrayed as a baby while i'm the cool and collected chad" webcomic
Yawn, you will never be a gamedev
Lost me at community manager.
