That's the really frustrating part is that you could make a good case for a worthwhile FF9 remake where they expand on the characters and fix a lot of the problems the game had, especially towards the end. It's my favorite FF but it's still flawed and a remake would be a great opportunity to smooth some of that. But even if they do remake the game, modern Square-Enix is going to bungle it beyond recognition.
VIII with 7R's gameplay would be kino, and Time Jannies would arguably make more sense, but SE is moronic and can't make reasonable decisions.

IX is definitely well-liked, but I don't think it's really "big" enough to warrant being expanded into three 50-hour games. VII only makes sense because of how much it's already been milked. They'd need to change the limits and possibly the gunblade system unless they are going to take away that small amount of interactivity the original had.

Either they'd have to remove that entire aspect as well as the main reason for Zidane and Garnet to even meet, or they'd have to use her kidnapping as the way to get her back to Alexandria to meet her mother and ruin what the drugged feast incident meant for her character.
The efficiency of modern games is so bad that it's gonna take several years to remake an hour or 2 of old PS1 games.

No, because FF9 needs some significant rewriting to make it more coherent and to keep characters relevant throughout the story, but they won't do that.
