it's nothing new. summertime was just one of the first games to get the weg train going, so he still gets way too much money a month for doing literally nothing. it's been in "development" for 8 entire years at this point, and it's still only at version 0.20 whatever that means
It became the number western porn game because the dev made an actual functional game with content and regular updates. Would update the game with big chunks of content every 2 months. Became the most subscribed porn game dev on patreon while giving the game away for free on his website, just nothing but positive things to say about the dev.
Then updates came to a crawl, he started updating once every 6 months. Often the update would remove more content than it adds. Then he made a patreon poll and asked the paypigs, do they want more content and something to jerk off to or do they want to wait 9 months for a ''tech update'' that will change the engine and allow different resolutions. Patreons chose 9 months of nothing. The dev them proceeded to do pretty much nothing for the next 3 years and the tech update is nowhere in sight. He has a progress tracker on his site and it's 82%. If the progress tracker is to be believed it will take over 10 years for them to finish the tech update, assuming they don't go back in progress. It was once like 84% and then jumped down to 70%

It's renpy, you literally just need to put higher resolution images in the folder if they arent already there. The engine automatically does the scaling.

Immersion and feeling in control. No book, movie or whatever (that I know of) could provide that "it's actually ME" experience. Or games where it's a female protagonist and you can pretend you're the little demon in her head pushing her towards corruption for your sick pleasures, or the guardian angel trying to preserve her virginity at all costs. No other medium can do that.
I honestly believe that H-games need to focus on good porn or setups first and foremost, with gameplay being a nice accessory but not too intrusive. VNs are simple but too lacking, and high speed sidescrollers tend to have levels that are too long or damage sponge enemies that it makes me forget to jerk off. JSK flash games or imperial gatekeeper strike a good balance especially since there are touchy feely mechanics involved making it easy to play with one hand and jerk off with the other.
If I want games with high gameplay density I have TWEWY, ninja gaiden, rhythm games... But that's my opinion, not a rule. I know there are people who enjoy beating a tough challenge before being rewarded with a good scene, and I suspect those people hate having to lose in order to unlock content.
RPGs are fine. I recently played "Princess Honey Trap" and I absolutely loved the premise. All you have to do is win but it's easy to be tempted and voluntarily push the MC towards defeat. If anything the real gameplay is edging and trying to resist the urges

Save a beastman, he shares his blessing with you, now you have enhanced physical combat abilities but some people treat you differently based on this, certain enemies can e-girlfy you, you can get a bust increase potion, all these factor in different ways.

Im replaying it right now and every sincle scene so far(im mid Chapter 3, about to visit Zirantia) has art. As far as Im aware, every single optional scene with the harem members has long been available. There's also more personalized portraits you can decorate the base with(along with generic character portraits), but it kinda sucks that those original portraits can only be obtained right at the end of the game, since they are tied to a character's sidequest..

There are four types of trauma damage, and their main purpose is to 'surrounding' the magical girls, but they also change the girl's behavior as they hit specific breakpoints as well. Each has different criteria to hit before they contribute toward your surround attack.

>Disgust: Always active, but it's the weakest one
>Pain: Once it's activated, it no longer applies until you increase it to the next level
>Shame: It doesn't apply toward breaking a magical girl's defenses. It only increases your total once it's already broken.
Once you surround them, you get access to new attacks that cause a different type of damage.
Circumstance damage is the true damage type of the game. Each one gives a bonus as the level of damage increases.
>Hate: Increases all damage inflicted
>Pleasure: Increases trauma damage
>Injury: Increases circumstance damage
>Expose: Increases all damage on OTHER chosen
Your main goal is to increase the circumstance damage on the girls until you break their vulnerabilities at specific breakpoints. The difficulty comes in that each girl has different affinities for different vulnerabilities. You turn the girls against each other by breaking a girl's 'Core' vulnerabilities while not doing so for others. For example, if you break all of the girl's hate vulnerabilities and rape them all, they'll comfort each other and become stronger over it. If you break one girl's hate vulnerabilities and leave the rest untouched, she'll become resentful again. If she especially hates a girl, she might break down over it and forcibly pop her hymen out of hate. Causing negative events for the girls generally gives you large evil energy bonuses, which help you keep ahead of the curve and eventually win.
