This game needs to be studied for years on how they fricked everything up. Shutting down the game for a year only to come back with three new characters is laughable. This shit is DoA. At this point, they would have been better off going the Nick Allstar route and just abandon this shit entirely in favor of a sequel

I guarantee that this was the original plan, but you can find articles online from around the time they pulled the plug that the game had already lost more than 90% of its player count when they shut it down. There probably weren't enough players to justify keeping it up, which is why the whole thing feels so scummy. Yes, it was a "beta", but with all of the battle passes and paid content it seemed like the beta was going to feed directly into the official launch. But when the player count dropped to near 0, it's like they pulled the plug just so they could get a second shot at successfully launching the game.
The beta was originally just supposed to be up for a week or two but then WB noticed how popular it got and kinda just forced it to go on longer than it should have.
Doubtful. It takes time to come up with costumes, characters, and the battle pass content that they were shitting out at the time. The plan would have certainly been to keep people hooked until launch rather than have to gamble on shutting things down and hoping that people come back at launch. But that all changed when the game lost its playerbase anyway
There's a good chance that the battle pass stuff was being worked on already and just wasn't meant to release as early as it did and it was all supposed to come out on relaunch. That would explain why there's only three characters for the return.

They teased two spots, and one was Banana Guard. There's no indication launch will have anyone past Jason. Now we do know more fighters will be in through Season 1, but that's still very vague. I just looked this up holy frick this is probably one of the worst looking games I've ever seen I don't know who any of these frickers are. Every time one of these comes out the rosters get progressively worse, and the only good reviews on steam are clearly from people who are friends with the developer.
While i agree i also wanna point out that the lead developer has stated that he and the team are making the game for fun and not for any sort of popularity, in fact he believe that the game will never get popular and he's fine with that.

For clarity, this was his monster form. It's not bad and the guns could have been neat for animation, but it does seem a little generic. It's a little too tied down to be the corruption having no form of order behind it, but it's also too weird to be a more deliberate corruption of Yosemite. It really felt like they wanted to hyperfocus on his guns, which feels off when they seemed to want to make a point about Yosemite getting more dangerous guns. Again, Yosemite fricking Sam.
We saw his monster form after being corrupted, him being decapitated by Pibby, and this. It's this one that bothers me the most. Literally shows him smiling and shit prior to being corrupted, but it's YOSEMITE SAM. It just felt very out of character and raised concerns how they would approach other properties. They didn't have to make him all happy either. Have his character faults be part of what leads to him being corrupted. You can tell they were implying something made him turn too because they deliberately gave him more deadly and realistic firearms.
Learning with Pibby's trailers and whatnot made everyone's autism tingle with tons of horror and drama ideas but in reality it was going to be "WHAT IF MARIO DID DRUGS" tier schlock that would've been awful.

The latest Rivals 2 patch removed Drift DI, the one cool thing they did from the first game. Between that and adding in shields, grabbing, and ledge-grabbing they've stripped Rivals of what made it different from every other platfighter mechanically in favor of standardizing it all to chase Melee's elusive ghost.
Not to mention stripping the roster completely down and only adding two newbies to compensate, one of which they actually had to overhaul her whole gimmick because it had all visual but no substance.

OG Thundercats had a good run back in the and Thundercats 2011 got hit with the classic graveyard timeslot and was canceled to be replaced with the cheaper and easier to shill Lego Chima, then Chima was canned and cannibalized by the absolute juggernaut that was Lego Ninjago which is still airing with new episodes and stuff to this day. Then Thundercats Roar was a braindead attempt in 2020 to make another Teen Titans GO!, it failed horribly because it did not have wildcard power and fun that TTG brought to the table. It was a bit like the Battletoads reboot game where it's a "WHO IS THIS FOR!?" kind of thing where new viewers won't give a shit about the IP and older viewers are going to feel absolutely snubbed because the OG and 2011 versions are rotting away and the IP is basically being propped up like a corpse both figuratively and literally. The art style was garbage and the humor was not enough to make up for Thundercats ROAR. It's honestly a sore spot for WB and We're probably never gonna get Lion-O or the other Thundercats.

Piranha Plant is at least unique even if it's kind of boring and forgettable as a fighter in practice. Banana Guard is just using a bunch of generic spear moves with a couple of lame buffing moves thrown on.
Plant came after Sakurai added every character that ever was in the franchise into one title so that nobody could be upset. Banana superceded some of the most requested from even the series he is from and characters that already had work done.

You’re forgetting the fact that joke characters in Smash (WFT, Duck Hunt, Piranha Plant, etc.) are really good because they take a character who doesn't normally fight and use their concept to craft a moveset that no other characters can have.
From the looks of it, this is the opposite of that. They took a generic joke of a red shirt archetype and just... gave him nothing. He has a spear, so he fights with that I guess. Nothing more. This is basically a shitty April Fool's joke that went too far.
