I mean objectively speaking it did sell insanely well, it's not a Horizon Forbidden West situation where the game underperformed financially, it just seems like it didn't leave any sort of last impression whatsoever. I didn't even love GoW18 but I can't deny people being pretty obsessed with that game for a long time.

There's nothing to talk about. It's the same shit as 2018 but with even more walkie-talkie and with a rushed ending.
It's so weird how GoW18 is so slow paced and felt like it was setting up a new trilogy, and then the next game is the final one and it feels like they just rushed to the end.
Games became too big for their own good. They took 5 years to shit out this turd which already uses 2018 as a base and it's still on the PS4. For the old trilogy we got both 2 and 3 in the span of 5 years, but that's impossible with the current dev cycles, so it's better to make one giant rushed game than 2 smaller, well paced ones.

basically journalists and the people who pay them are only interested in huge budget productions that push some kind of technical or cultural envelope (realistically this is because the production is owned by a wealthy friend, or running stories on it might get you invited to better parties) so the news cycle gets dominated by these types of release, meanwhile the bulk of sales go to what critics will deride as "popcorn flicks" or in the case of games, simply try to have demade with shitty translations and sloppy artistic coverups
No theyre intrested in getting a scoop before moving onto next scoop, the quality of product is 100% irrelevant
Western Triple A has a particular aesthetic they go for with character designs that looks very familiar no matter which IP.

I never played Ragnarok but I found the pacing in 18 already slow as fuck, the fact that I've seen people who like 18 complain about Ragnarok being too slow makes me feel like I should never play it.

It's a shame a game as good looking at this, as fun to play, with amazing art direction and enemies designs have to be plagued with the curse of diversity and cringe dialogue.

the worst thing though is that Kratos just doesn't feel cool anymore and I don't know where they can go from here, cus I don't care for the other characters either
I especially loved the 'hallway of tying up loose ends' at the end because the game wa so obviously rushed out the door
it's called Ragnarok but the entire build up of Ragnorok is fucked because the event was such a let down, not to mention Odin, the last boss, just ended up being some gnomish New York car salesman rather than a head of a pantheon

It's the expansion pack to Goy of Slop that didn't fix any of the issues plaguing it and added new ones:

>attack indicator is still a retarded idea that's laughable bad, enemies all have universal tells because of it so you don't need to understand your own moveset in relation to the enemy and vice versa, turning it off doesn't make the shit enemy design better
>forward dodging has no iframes
>even more emphasis on an RPG bloat design with filler stats, grinding and loot over tight and expressive action combat, killing shit fast has nothing to do with skill, but instead how much take you want to send fiddling with the RPG bloat
>lack of basic hit properties thanks to the retarded power level idea and overall terrible damage, enemies ignoring your attacks with the jacked to shit hyperarmor they get no matter who it is, Runics are still one of the only things that matter besides Stun and Rage and they were even nerfed anyway (lower damage modifiers across the board + protection was heavily downgraded)
>runic attacks usage sti being determined by a cooldown system instead of a replenishing resource in combat
>attacks still have magnetize, making positioning pointless and spacing useless
>still no aerial options outside of the new death from above attacks
>boring companion usage in combat that's invincible is tacked on
>Rage is still underwhelming and Valor is undercooked, your only real source of damage outside of Runics/Stun besides the NPCs

I actually like GoW2018, I beat it twice on PS4, four or five times on PC. GMGOW, GMGOW+, No Upgrades, I've done it all.
I don't own a PS5, so I'll wait till the PC port comes along. While I do want to play GoW:R, I can't deny that from what I've seen, it's doubled down on the stuff I like the least. Rigged/scripted boss fights and endless walk-sim and unskippable cutscenes where you can't control anything.
