A standard rifle and a shitty missile pod supplemented by a cheap laser blade was enough to beat 2/3rds off all AC missions across all the games. You were just killing shitty tanks, MTs, and helicopters in most of them.

I just hit him with my sword until his hit points fell to zero and then moved on to chapter 2, but I imagine he's really hard to fight if your first instinct is to fight him at his optimal range, and your second instinct to every one of his attacks is to panic boost in a straight line away as if you think the missiles are just gonna get tuckered out and lay down to take a nap or something.

His has a shield that will regenerate so you need to take weapons that can break it like the sword and a bazooka/grenade launcher.
Once the shield is broken attack with everything you have until it regenerate.
Always be aggressive so it doesn't have time to make his annoying missile attack.

I just got to the Wall but then I started replaying missions over and over going for S ranks, grabbing money, fricking around with new weapons and gear, because I just really like going for max ranks in games that rank your missions and it's also really fun slowly improving with how I handle my AC. Playing on KB+M and I actually really enjoy how precise aiming and moving feels but it takes a little getting used to.
Like with this mission where you're supposed to ignore the tetrapod-whatever it's called, I just got a linear rifle that allows for just enough EN load on my light-as-a-feather AC and that shit does a ton of stagger damage on charged shots so now I just need to not eat shit in terms of damage and I get my S rank. This shit is so fricking fun.

Think about them as a spectacle. Bosses are mini-performances in a sense, both player and the boss are performing and creating experience together. Boss is a reward for going through level, not a punishment.

Unfortunately that's not usually the case with these games you're supposed to do pvp. That's why arenas are always included. In the older games funds management was really important so you'd think they'd add something for doing it without dying once but I don't think that's a thing.

I've gotten him down to 20% but I don't feel like I've learned what I'm actually supposed to do in the slightest. I use a pulse gun with the spin saber, then the buckler and a laser cannon. I've tried a bunch of other setups and I just cannot get anything that feels reliable.

but used a linear rifle instead of handgun. I used a generator with decent enough output and standard legs.
I also did some arena stuff to get Assault Armor and packed 2 charges of it, and whenever I buck broke him I let one off at close range*.
*Need to watch out for his frickoff big explosion at low health, may not want to AA then.
Seems to me far range has the most danger of the missile volley, but yeah honestly it's kind of bullshit getting chipped for so much damage no matter what. I can accept mech realism and it being an AC game, but I don't think being forced into a battle of attrition with a modern fromsoft boss is good design
I dodge the missiles by dodging in a circle towards/under them. If you're unlucky you'll take 1 or 2k damage, but if you get it right you'll take a few hundred at most. You can completely dodge the opening salvo this way
If you're having trouble with the 2.5k rocket, listen for the beeps. They're the only tell and if you can't hear it over the missiles then just die I guess because that's the only fricking signal they have.
Next you're gonna have to notice the faint smell of a fart in the wind in order to avoid a map nuke. Fricking hate tells that are "blink and you miss it", especially in fights where there's already plenty going on.

Do keep in mind the early release "reviews" had builds with every single part unlocked and they could just pick their poison for whatever boss they were fighting.
Fromsoft has been shipping out gimped review copies for journalists for years. I forget which it was, but there was a glitch that let you get one game real early off the jp marketplace and it was a journalist review version that had the difficulty cranked way down.
This is normal for some other publishers too. Back when I had my own indie review site I would frequently get review builds that were slightly different to launch builds.

Same, trying to fight it at range like I thought was expected just resulted in my bullets ricocheting and doing worthless damage while he spammed explosives and homing bullets out the ass against my shitty stock mecha, but once I realized that using the sword outside of his stagger actually worked completely fine and he can't even attack you with his 3k damage missile spam when you're that close, the poor guy went down in about a minute.

Archer EMIYA killed me so I had to go back and upgrade my mech. Then in the same mission I had to fight a mech with a hula loop who flies around, he felt as difficult as how the reviewers described the first helicoptor boss. I had to play it like Sekiro and keep staggering him (the game designer is the Sekiro one so that's why it's similar). I sold all my pulse weapons though, it probably would've been easier if I had one to break his pulse shield faster.

Tank can withstand the first barrage of missiles without getting stunned.
Spam missile launcher but keep track of you pulse usage so as not to go on cool down.

Don't bother charging their shots. Get good stagger just by keeping the constant damaging going. Also easier to control the tank on this boss by flying, than trying to drive around.

I finally got it below 50% HP and was surprised it didn't seem to have a phase 2. Turns out its phase 2 is at like 30% HP and instantly killed me. Frick this goddamn spider and frick the fact that I need to interact with the container every refight and especially frick it's three different types of laser shot with the same startup sound but different durations.

I am on the mission where there are multiple stealth whip using enemies. Love the atmosphere of this one tbh.

Bring a shotgun and the 8x missile launcher or two of those. The shotgun shreds his pulse shield. Spam missiles and shotguns at him, wait until after his missile/flamethrower attacks to close in and slash the pulse shield. Try and time it so that you can get a missile barrage plus sword slashes on him when he's staggered. Play it safe when he does the pulse explosion and in the last phase when he's got the flamethrower out. Also get the assault armor extension and equip that, it does a shitload of damage. He had like 10% health left and I was about to die when I popped the assault armor and won.

Outdated guide. Most of the graphical issues are fixed for the PS2 games on emulation, and FA emulates great now as long as you have a decent CPU.

Personally I'd recommend starting with some of the PS2 titles first to see if you really like the formula. Most of the stories are self contained or so minimalist it doesn't really matter and sometimes are decades or centuries apart, and the PS2 games are basically the same idea as the PS1 era games just with more QoL and better graphics. Mechanically they're practically identical, apart from a couple part types and weapon styles.
In my experience they all emulate really well, even on an old PC.

It's supposed to be the stagger mechanic tutorial. You're supposed to stagger it then slash for massive damage. Sword also fills the stagger meter a lot, so rushing it down is viable.

He forces you to get good at the game, and also forces you to try to experiment with weapons. It was the only fight that gave me so much trouble at that point, and it took me a few hours, but I could tangible feel that I was better at the game and understood it afterwards. I got him down with

The trick is to try to keep his attitude broken as often as possible, so he can't throw up his pulse shield and stall the fight. Get on him and stay on him. He's a ranged missile fricker, so if you stay as close to him as possible and just don't let up you'll have an easier time. The pulse blade is the real key to the fight. It does bonus damage to the pulse shield, does a ton of attitude damage when the shield is done, and it's pretty good at locking onto him when you're close. Also, understand that you don't have i-frames, so you need to actually avoid his missile patterns. A lot of them you can just dodge under, or strafe when you're in Assault Boost.
The personal trick I learned while fighting him is if you're right under an enemy you can just shove your missile launchers up his butthole and it does a ton of damage really quickly. The homing missile launcher is great for that. Its normal downside is that it takes forever to lock on despite its absurdly fast reload, but that's not a problem when your just firing them point blank. So you can do a ton of damage by just slamming rockets up his urethra.
So far, all of the major bosses are easier when you facefrick them like a roided chimpanzee. Being really aggressive, sticking close, and beating the shit out of them with melee. The pile bunker is amazing on the big, non-AC bosses..

I changed the head at some point along the way, but I haven't found a need to change shit. Maybe when le epic plot twist about the coral being the souls of the dead and the planet being an alien and everyone is an AI then I'll have to swap some parts out to beat the ass of the coralwitch obviously going to stab me in the back.
The only RNG I've felt from the bosses so far was with the starting helicopter boss because sometimes he'll decide to frick off beyond the area limits and spam shots from range at you until you die.

For Balteus, just use the bubble gun that breaks his shield. You really want his shield down ASAP because it gives you some breathing room from his attacks and you can beat the shit out of him for extra damage. The bubble gun itself does ok damage but runs out of ammo quick.

Just a simple lightweight AC, maxed out mobility as much as I could and for weapons, left-hand is the basic laser blade, right-hand is a bazooka, both shoulders are the basic 4-cell missile launchers. I just dash around and use a combo of missiles+bazooka to insta-stagger most things and use laser blade to deal big damage once they're staggered. For the wall boss you even have time for another bazooka+missile volley if you time the stagger well.
My S rank runs consist of a lot of resets until I can basically get by the whole thing nearly unscathed.

yes, you can change out the blade for a gun any time you want.
You can get your quads pretty quickly after doing your training. You can akimbo weapons pretty much immediately. The melee weapons are only in the left hand, but you can get an upgrade that lets you kick for some alright damage. The kick is more limited in what it can do, though.
You get quad legs unlocked a few missions after operation wall imperative IIRC
You can definitely dual wield most weapons. Seems like at the point I'm at the only thing you can't dual wield is melee

The missiles aren't even the hard part, its the fricking cheeky cannon shots he sneaks in when you're completely blinded by missiles or he's warp speeded over your head. THOSE do like 1/2-1/3 of your health bar and have a fairly large AOE so he doesn't even have to hit you directly with them.

You don't have i-frames, so you have to actually avoid things. A lot of frames won't have a very good quick-boost because they're heavy or don't have the right legs. A lot of it comes down to timing and actually going in the right direction, though. Sometimes shots will still hit you because you dodged too early and the tracking compensates.

I tried the first kinetic handgun and I didn't care for it. Hits hard and has good impact, but has no fricking ammo. It feels like you'll go empty on literally any mission. Even just fighting a boss.
The laser handgun is giga-based, though. Still hits really hard, has a charged three-round burst, decent impact, and has a ludicrous amount of ammo.

That's honestly a lot at the dead start of the game, and it's clear it's a touch overturned when people still don't even know the ins and outs of just general controls.

you're pushing on it too hard, its programmed to keep distance from you. bait it back out by falling back a little bit and hiding behind a building until it flies back into range. or if that doesnt work try to get it to back up into the wall behind it when it spawns.

I think being an actual native english speaker would allow you to read more nuance in performances and discern what is a quality voicework or not, since you are more accustomed in your day to day life to normal speak unlike an esl who would have the most contact with the language through media that tends to distort reality for entertainment, am i wrong?

I beat him after I changed my loadout to missile launchers on my back and kept spamming it since they can hit pretty consistently and shooting it with the rocket launcher whenever it's stunned or stationary. I had a sniper rifle on my other hand, but it feels like it didn't really do much.
