The only time he actually gets afflicted is Liberator ending, where his forced augmentations by Arquebus make him vaguely see Ayre by 621's side in his insanity.

Walter didn't make contact. His "friend" is Carla since they're both overseers. He was kidnapped by Arquebus and brainwashed before the final fight in the liberation ending but he still saw Ayre before he died.
His "friend" is not Carla, unless they have a super sekrit communications line that Ayre can't trace. It's more likely that Walter is just pretending when he talks about his friend, and that all his friend's requests are just Walter's requests.

There are multiple friends in the picture here. There's Walter's "friend," who sends you missions, and does data analysis for Walter. Then there are Walter and Carla's friends, who are likely off-world and/or deceased Observer members. The question is whether the "friend" is a Coral entity, or Walter pretending he has a friend.

That story is about Walter's father. Walter was a kid at the time of the Fires, and his dad was largely responsible for stuff like Coral augmentation. The reason he's so intent on burning the Coral is because he sees it as his responsibility to render his father's inventions extinct and end the suffering he sees them cause.
He's essentially a luddite. Although in this case it's not about jobs, its about the fact that Walter's seen just how bad it can get and wants to stop it.

The game implies all their big shit was brought in and they basically kicked the crap out of everyone without the Ice Worm until you destroyed their grounded fleet and best forces.
AC7 with multiple planets, each multiple corps/organisations you can side with, 200+ missions, 60 bosses, online features like COOP/invasions (during certain missions) between players allied with different corps.
Yes, something focused like ER, DS3, BB or Sekiro that manage to do both quantity and quality.
But with more mission variety and different starting "classes" and corps you can join like in AC4.
Multiple planets would allow for far more biomes, different gravity settings, poison/radiation swamps and a whole lot of one-off gimmick missions.

Did some testing, so these psuedo RJ's have a 3 second jump compared to the 4 second jump of the first RJ legs you get. So yeah it is basically an inbetween Biped and RJ, but with better airborn stats.

This game is some of the most fun I've had in many years. Every moment gives me the same feeling as when I was a kid playing Mechassault on my OG Xbox, I even put a few reshade filters to emulate the look my old TV had. It made me remember that I truly love mecha, I just had forgotten it after so many years with not many mech games. Brigador, Titanfall 1&2, Into The Breach... that's it. We need more big robots.
It's on the forehead! Also on the back, so I can see it during missions. I've actually been changing my AC setup every few missions on NG+ and NG++ but I kept the emblem despite the other ACs not being desert themed. It came out too nice. I should probably try my hand at making similar ones for my other ACs, space- and forest themed instead of desert.

I think it's one of their hardest content all around, along with Lost Kingdom in general because of how different it plays compared to most games.

Figured out you can get an instant needle phase 2 when it comes up to drop off drones.
The worst part is that it's actually one of the most strict missions to S-rank in terms of time. You HAVE to get the first cycle shield break for the 1st and 2nd hits, and then you have to just get lucky with its RNG 3rd phase and stun it twice really quickly.

So what exactly do you build towards in this game? There aren't stats to scale to like in the Souls series, do you just try to get as much AP possible and parts that increase your energy damage/firearms spec/melee abilities as possible in your weight and energy limit or are there speedier builds?

To be fair Trigger is always referred to as a male in game while 621 never really referred to by pronouns just names and nicknames. Also Ace 7's popularity was before Covid so the amount of just brain melted people online was much MUCH less
the only problem is that now people have realized that reverse joints are the new meta due to over reliance on hard lock, causing all PVP matches to basically just be nine-ball strat of being on top of/behind you
AC has always had shitty ranking systems but this one is by far the worst simply because they're locked behind a specific mode and can't be gained naturally.
It also doesn't help that missions STILL have all the story-related downtime, such as during the Take the Uninhabited Floating City mission. Every time you fail to get an S-rank, you have to restart the mission, which means you have to sit through 20-30 seconds worth of npc dialogue before the 5-minute countdown timer actually begins for defending the Xylem control tower.
Or during the Escort the Weaponized Mining Ship mission, every time you fail to get an S-Rank, you restart BEFORE the Strider gets destroyed, so you have to sit through Walter's bewildered radio babble, and it takes an average of about 20 seconds before you can actually begin to fight the enemies that spawn in.
Then there's also the elevator rides (like the one before the Juggernaut boss fight) and the slow door openings throughout the game.
Theres some Ganker horror stories out there about actual tulpas, usually its bronies doing it. Read one where a guy spent like 11 hours meditating making one and all it would do was labored breathing and screaming. Shits fricking crazy, but I guess thats what you get for dipping into self induced schizophrenia

Dual full auto smg's, stagger firing them so one is always firing (while the other reloads) builds stagger consistently. Then have somthing on shoulders to do damage during stagger.
I use dual plasma missles, launch them just before you stagger and the timing will be perfect
Yea a lot of close range kinetic weapons are solid, it's the long range ones that are lacking. I've had fun zooming around with pistols, sweet sixteens, etc
Some long range combos do enough damage to kill specific things at 400 distance without them being aware in 1 shot or 1 combined shot.
Makes doing segments literally effortless when you delete enemies like Tenchu.
I used test a lot and never crashed.
I'm using default proton selected by valve and no tweaks like cyro either.

going through trying to S rank every mission now for 100%. not playing around so I'm just using the most bullshit versatile load out I could think of. Zim zam, burst rifle, stun needle launcher, songbirds. burst rifle cleans up little guys very efficiently while the other three just dump on any boss or AC. just got S on the mission where you destroy hacking drones then iguazu jumps you at the end with a bunch of invisible bawds
I don't like that S ranks are based mostly on time, and that a sloppy fast run is better than a precise slow one, at least in the missions that aren't time sensitive. I got a C rank after clearing out the entirety of grid 086 (like 500k bonus) because I took my time.
It should have been primarily time but have anything that isn't an MT walker give a score and you needed x amount to make S under par time. It doesn't feel right to zoom past an MT squad led by an LC and still get S rank.
Yeah, it's the reason why most people don't give a shit about ranks in the series. It's both boring and teaches bad habits. A real contender for one of the worst ranking systems in all of gaming.

You need arms with good tracking and recoil for sustained fire, you need a direct hit shoulder slot, and then you also need high movespeed to get on people and stay with them to stagger and get off a punish. All I care about is actually having fun, and the boss getting staggered and dying instantly while I mash the triggers is the opposite of fun. It's the same reason I don't use magic in souls games, it's basically a difficulty slider. the charge is only an issue if you miss the shot and in pve it's nigh impossible to miss (tho if you miss with zims you're also stuck with a lengthy reload)

HARRIS is probably the only real long range option right now outside of certain AR builds, and kick into charged shot is disgusting, but most people are too bad at the game to know.
SMGs have CHANG-CHEN and ETSUJIN which are a true menace at close range, especially ETSUJIN.
Pistols are absolute monsters, SAMPU is fricking disgusting, VIENTO is a monster and DUCKETT isn't too far behind.
The moment they give more bullet velocity to ARs you're gonna have nightmares keeping RANSETSU users off you.

Bubbleblower does shittons of damage but has high cooldown, makes it fun to play around. Run with the 150 Energy Weapon Amp generator.

Just chase people down and loop your Laser Knife / Darth Maul combo over and over.

Its power comes from its versatility. Shoots plasma twice as fast as the next gun for constant close range DPS and harassment from above, plus and instant charge on high damage, high impact, high velocity laser shots to punish any opening and effectively poke in a game where ranged combat is difficult.
Just never let it overheat unless you're doing the nuke, cover your openings with melee and shoulder weapons to let it cool down, and it's an exceptionally oppressive weapon. I use it with RJs because the mobility makes keeping in your preferred distance easier and the massive and powerful kick lets you land charged shots on turtles and anyone backpedaling.
Lately I use one of the spread missiles and the laser drones. I personally I'm big fan of the spread missiles since they track more aggressively than normal ones and thus consistently tag people. Plus, they just look cool as hell.
But, replacing one of them with the drones was the right call, as seen here

Notice how in the Armored Core game's arena, every Pilot and his AC have some kind of history/legend/lore attached to them. I believe it really helps with game's atmosphere, cause not only does it tell you more about the world but also hints at the general social culture as well. Makes me think of young and veteran pilots alike, chilling in a military mess hall, sharing stories about their encounters on the battlefield. Enjoying the few moments of respite that they can get. Trying not to get too attached to one another...

Did some testing, so these psuedo RJ's have a 3 second jump compared to the 4 second jump of the first RJ legs you get. So yeah it is basically an inbetween Biped and RJ, but with better airborn stats.

This game is some of the most fun I've had in many years. Every moment gives me the same feeling as when I was a kid playing Mechassault on my OG Xbox, I even put a few reshade filters to emulate the look my old TV had. It made me remember that I truly love mecha, I just had forgotten it after so many years with not many mech games. Brigador, Titanfall 1&2, Into The Breach... that's it. We need more big robots.

It's on the forehead! Also on the back, so I can see it during missions. I've actually been changing my AC setup every few missions on NG+ and NG++ but I kept the emblem despite the other ACs not being desert themed. It came out too nice. I should probably try my hand at making similar ones for my other ACs, space- and forest themed instead of desert.

The main advantage of small rifles in the older AC games was that they were very ammo cost-efficient. With ammo costs becoming less and less impactful as the games went along they became less and less relevant.

The worst part is that it's actually one of the most strict missions to S-rank in terms of time. You HAVE to get the first cycle shield break for the 1st and 2nd hits, and then you have to just get lucky with its RNG 3rd phase and stun it twice really quickly.

It also doesn't help that missions STILL have all the story-related downtime, such as during the Take the Uninhabited Floating City mission. Every time you fail to get an S-rank, you have to restart the mission, which means you have to sit through 20-30 seconds worth of npc dialogue before the 5-minute countdown timer actually begins for defending the Xylem control tower.
Or during the Escort the Weaponized Mining Ship mission, every time you fail to get an S-Rank, you restart BEFORE the Strider gets destroyed, so you have to sit through Walter's bewildered radio babble, and it takes an average of about 20 seconds before you can actually begin to fight the enemies that spawn in.
Then there's also the elevator rides (like the one before the Juggernaut boss fight) and the slow door openings throughout the game.

I'm partway through ng+. Light reverse-joint ac with gridwalker booster feels really nice to control, very mobile. I just need to find good loadouts with solid firepower. Without going much over 60,000. And I need to stop getting hit
Dual full auto smg's, stagger firing them so one is always firing (while the other reloads) builds stagger consistently. Then have somthing on shoulders to do damage during stagger.
I use dual plasma missles, launch them just before you stagger and the timing will be perfect
Yea a lot of close range kinetic weapons are solid, it's the long range ones that are lacking. I've had fun zooming around with pistols, sweet sixteens, etc
To be honest, I dunno why you would want long range when you are built for speed

Some long range combos do enough damage to kill specific things at 400 distance without them being aware in 1 shot or 1 combined shot.

going through trying to S rank every mission now for 100%. not playing around so I'm just using the most bullshit versatile load out I could think of. Zim zam, burst rifle, stun needle launcher, songbirds. burst rifle cleans up little guys very efficiently while the other three just dump on any boss or AC. just got S on the mission where you destroy hacking drones then iguazu jumps you at the end with a bunch of invisible bawds
God replaying missions with coral weapons makes you feel godly
I don't like that S ranks are based mostly on time, and that a sloppy fast run is better than a precise slow one, at least in the missions that aren't time sensitive. I got a C rank after clearing out the entirety of grid 086 (like 500k bonus) because I took my time.
It should have been primarily time but have anything that isn't an MT walker give a score and you needed x amount to make S under par time. It doesn't feel right to zoom past an MT squad led by an LC and still get S rank.
Yeah, it's the reason why most people don't give a shit about ranks in the series. It's both boring and teaches bad habits. A real contender for one of the worst ranking systems in all of gaming.

You need arms with good tracking and recoil for sustained fire, you need a direct hit shoulder slot, and then you also need high movespeed to get on people and stay with them to stagger and get off a punish. Zims go into anything. Now go frick yourself moron, I hate people too stupid to even look at the stat pages

Wrong, pistols need ammo management and count on the defender not paying attention long to not get staggered. Zimmers literally swoop in and get insta staggers with little counter play

Maybe Harris and Trueno is actually meta and I just didn't know it, but it doesn't matter to me because it's not eviscerating shit like Zimmerman and Stun Needle Launchers.

Zimmermans reload very quickly for how much damage and impact they shit you, moron. It's faster than the Harris overheat for like 80% of the impact..
HARRIS is probably the only real long range option right now outside of certain AR builds, and kick into charged shot is disgusting, but most people are too bad at the game to know.
SMGs have CHANG-CHEN and ETSUJIN which are a true menace at close range, especially ETSUJIN.
Pistols are absolute monsters, SAMPU is fricking disgusting, VIENTO is a monster and DUCKETT isn't too far behind.
The moment they give more bullet velocity to ARs you're gonna have nightmares keeping RANSETSU users off you.
Sampu and etsujin are just OK, they underperform vs vientos and pistols

If you have the parts for a good melee setup (namely the Basho Arms, Melee Distance Booster and the melee-focused FCS) that's also fun.
Just chase people down and loop your Laser Knife / Darth Maul combo over and over.

Its power comes from its versatility. Shoots plasma twice as fast as the next gun for constant close range DPS and harassment from above, plus and instant charge on high damage, high impact, high velocity laser shots to punish any opening and effectively poke in a game where ranged combat is difficult.
Just never let it overheat unless you're doing the nuke, cover your openings with melee and shoulder weapons to let it cool down, and it's an exceptionally oppressive weapon. I use it with RJs because the mobility makes keeping in your preferred distance easier and the massive and powerful kick lets you land charged shots on turtles and anyone backpedaling.
In a game with a lot of ridiculously overpowered shit, something like this that's just really strong can fly under the radar.
Surely you can swap out those missiles for something better.
Lately I use one of the spread missiles and the laser drones. I personally I'm big fan of the spread missiles since they track more aggressively than normal ones and thus consistently tag people. Plus, they just look cool as hell.
But, replacing one of them with the drones was the right call, as seen here
they are great at dealing consistent damage and the charged ones on a stagger are kind of disgusting.
This is my one true build and I fricking love using it but it's for SURE a PVP build. The sawa just does not have the ammo for most of the missions in this game.
Not a bad looking build. Might try that, but swap out those racks for a simple 10-shot and make the other a rifle I can use for mopping up trash or when low on ammo.

Notice how in the Armored Core game's arena, every Pilot and his AC have some kind of history/legend/lore attached to them. I believe it really helps with game's atmosphere, cause not only does it tell you more about the world but also hints at the general social culture as well. Makes me think of young and veteran pilots alike, chilling in a military mess hall, sharing stories about their encounters on the battlefield. Enjoying the few moments of respite that they can get. Trying not to get too attached to one another...
