As long as someone knows how to stay at range, they'll barely hit. If you can be aggressive and stay up close, though, they can absolutely shred someone in moments.

Been having good luck with this build in NG+. Ever since coming to the conclusion that all shoulder mounts suck for lights and going for double backpack, I've never been more successful.
I've also come to find bipeds and staying on the ground are better for go fasting than reverse joints and flying.

Have you tried the plasma missiles? Specifically the vertical launcher, though the single frontal launcher isn't bad. Pulse cannons are also pretty good if you double up on them.
I used to run the starter 4x missile and the 3x forward plasma missile launcher. Never was a fan of vertical missiles, even in plasma form. I also liked to bait enemies into dodging one set of missiles then nail them with the second, which is easier to time correctly with forward launching missiles.
Nevertheless, I find missiles in general are too easy to dodge, too slow to reload, and too low in both armor and posture damage, and on a light AC it's hard to equip any but the smallest launchers, which just don't really get any kind of job done well.
Killed the Alaskan Ice Bullworm, it is kind of annoying how easy it is for the giant frickers to just kill you by colliding with you, especially if it's the first time you're fighting the boss.

Two, ALLMIND viewed the RLF as a major opposition to Coral release, which is why she took the time to ensure 621 understood their true relationship with the Coral as it's warden, not it's protector. And unlike the Corps, keeping the RLF in play wasn't necessary.

Pack a weapon with a lot of ammo like the laser pistol to deal with the MTs, and that's pretty much it. You can just run around picking off MTs until Michigan and the tetrapods show up, and they alone aren't much of a threat. The tetrapod in the final wave is also very slow, both on its feet and in the head, and you can literally just lead Michigan away from it and it'll have a hard time following.

here's some work someone else did on the relation between weight and boost speed. Obviously as weight increases boost speed decreases, but as you can see how much it decreases by isn't consistent at all.
If you're a shitter that wants to finish the game as fast as possible so you can uninstall it sure.
People that enjoy the game try to squeeze as much content as possible and avoid overpowered weapons like the plague.
My first NG build was a modest reverse joint AC with dual rifles or pistols, a missile, and a hanger pilebunker. It was really gratifying to use, particularly against MTs, and especially when I could pile another AC and kill them before they could repair. It's the kind of AC I'd make back in AC1-3.
But zimzams and songbirds just annihilate everything, especially when spamming assault boosts, kicks, and assault armor. Bosses that are like banging my head against a brick wall with other builds are completely helpless against zimmers and nade spam. Once you're used to how bosses behave and how your AC moves these guns go from "really fricking good" to "wow this is broken."
People really aren't exaggerating with the whole YOU DIDN'T BEAT THE GAME thing when talking about these guns. Every AC dies before their dialog finishes, every boss dies before they fully transition into their 2nd phase. It's not uncommon to kill an AC within 8 seconds of it showing up unless they have a shoulder shield, and that just delays the inevitable. One zim kills just about every MT in a single shot under 200 meters. You can kill the test pilot AC before he even fires a shot with this build. You just T-pose on the entire fricking game.
As if that's not enough, zimzams are actually obscenely fun and satisfying. I'm really surprised they weren't nerfed into the ground with the first balance patch.
Just git gud, Killing Michigan is what you're supposed to do in NG.
Also stop wasting your ammo on literally whos on focus your firepower on michigan, use melee weapons for his frickbuddies.
Melee is always good. I had missiles to take care of grunts in range but its better to focus on michigan. Grab 3 charges of assault armor for more damage if you can.
i think because they come early people think they're underpowered. even if you want two birds or lazer guns on your shoulder you can put a multilock in one of your hands

Be conservative, make every shot count

ng++ you're basically with the RLF because most of the new missions are from them but you're skipping other missions too. is the other Raven doing these missions for you?
There's a lot of incidental dialogue in this game that can be missed, like when you finish the loghunt right before the final boss, allmind asks if you're the kind of person that only works right before the deadline or something to that effect.
Either way it's funny to see her get caught off guard by stuff like that. The sudden bits of genuine personality coming from the soulless AI almost makes you feel bad for her.
In the end she was right, the coral release just ended up with the coral pitting everyone against each other. Imagine the order you bring with Allmind. I just wish there was an alternate end with her hijacking Ayre's place and you wake up with Allmind instead.

He probably didn't have it. It was one of the Institute ACs recovered by Arquebus when they took control of Institute City. In the Liberator route, Arquebus brainwashed him, augmented him, and stuck him in the AC as their weapon of last resort. In the third route, Arquebus was slaughtered in Watchpoint Alpha, letting Walter swoop in and claim the AC for himself since 621 went AWOL.

I used anywhere between 30-35 on the reflective of the gold segments since different textures look better on different segments. If you're trying to make your gold or any metallic parts pop, make sure your other colored segments have a much less reflective coat of paint, I use 8 for the white/black segments of Last-Light.

Its easy to boost to them between gaps of their missiles.
I am using a light build with laser drones so maybe its a lot easier to chip at them while trying to close the gap. Running under them and quick boosting also helps vs lock on.
Huxleys are nice but they dont home in to your target. I'm really just using the drones as a distraction while i circle around with boosts shooting wtih ducketts

If you want to save all your decals and paint colors and builds, start a new game. You'll delete your old "corrupted" save but all that other shit will be saved. Then you have to beat the game again and buy everything.
Or you could download a 100% save but you lose all your decals, builds, and paint colors.
It's a known issue, there is no fix, I've tried. Unless someone finds out exactly which hex values to fix, like they did in Elden Ring, you're fricked. I just beat the game again 3 times, because honestly, decals and paintcolors and builds would take me longer than beating the game again.
I learned my lesson and now keep a separate save in a different location just in case it happens again. SUPPOSEDLY it's due to steam cloud sync, but not sure.

If only the tracking was better. The pulse blade already causes enough annoyance with it's piss poor vertical tracking, but the laser blade is even worse. So satisfying when it hits though.
I’ve been trying to build around the Duckett and have ended up with a lightweight AC with one in the right hand, a Sweet 16 in the left hand, a pile bunker in the left weapon bay and Soup on my right shoulder. This game is so fricking fun.
That AC is awesome though. Basho has great jump adjust and then you get the stun with the pistol/gun drone and the charge of those two weapons should one shot an AC

None of the parts are bad but none of them are stacked either. I was going up against twin zim tanks and stun gun heavies and won. I should probably mention that the lobby had rotated a few times. Some of them weren't great but all of them were pretty good build wise and w few piloting wise. After using my more competitive ACs like Related switched to Point Man and then cleaned house

I don't know what to say guys, it's really damn cool. It scratch the itch of me missing ZOE a whole lot. Lots of damn cool fights, lots of great set pieces.
I don't think it's going to be a AAA game, but a great AA game for FS. I hope they continue making it.

I made a setup with the RAD handheld missiles and the 10 shot missiles on the other shoulder, on a fast as frick AC, assault boost in circles setting up the delayed missiles and watch them completely fricking forget about the nuke chasing them
You can. Don't overthink it, you can use AoE like an Earshot, Assault Armor, or even Pulse Protection. That barrier blows up the drones instantly on contact and gives you a bigger window than Assault Armor.

Yeah I did the "good ending" first so the second playthrough was kind of a joke. Ayre took like 4 tries which is the most tries anything did in the whole playthrough.

It's not magic, it doesn't defy th erules, it just works differently than other reactors.
Don't forget that having a big EN Supply and low EN usage means your energy regen is better as well.
The lowest you can have with ng1 generator is 3.86 seconds.
You wait that long when empty, you recover 3300 EN, coupled with a strong standard regen that can mean instant full EN

I've used only coral generators in pvp and i always use the last 30% to get the frick off so i can be far enough for the regen to kick in, 3 seconds later.
It's not magic, it doesn't defy th erules, it just works differently than other reactors.
Don't forget that having a big EN Supply and low EN usage means your energy regen is better as well.
The lowest you can have with ng1 generator is 3.86 seconds.
You wait that long when empty, you recover 3300 EN, coupled with a strong standard regen that can mean instant full EN

Sounds like you don't know how it works...it has giant delay before recharge. Check your stat scree. Any other gen will fill itself immideadly upon touching the ground. So it is only useful for cucklegs air shittery. And I have questions about Assault Armor. It exist only for stun. No one cares about it's damage.

That's TRASH. Each point is .5% more EN damage. At best you get a tiny 5% bonus in exchange for one of the heaviest generators in the game.

EN supply efficiency and EN recharge delay is visible in the AC specs, I kinda expected the supply recovery and post-recovery energy to be shown in the specs as well when switching AC parts but I guess there's no way to tweak those numbers in any way and is strictly tied to the generators. Stats on the left are for the component, stats on the right are ones with modifiers applied.
EN supply efficiency is directly tied to spare EN capacity. So you can get great supply efficiency if you don't use energy weapons.
Recharge delay is based on the generator with a modifier from the core.
These are internal combustion generators so air flow and cooling would be factors.
Its a bit like saying why does a car with a supercharger get more power out of the same engine than one without it.

The moron wheel chair is fastest in the game I believe. I find that keeping your total weight around or below 70k helps a lot with keeping a "fast" feeling bipedal. The lightweight and melander legs can get you a pretty decent speed, but I still prefer reverse joint. They are a bit slower outright but the jump more than makes up for it imo. I used the heavy chickens for a wall but they do feel kind of slow on the ground so I switched to the allmind reverse joint

I can confirm, try heavy reverse joints. If you feel you're slow, then you're not jumping enough.
I honestly can't see a main hand melee weapon only ever being a good build, serviceable sure especially with moonlight. It just lacks constant good pressure, speed killing, lots of downtime even more so with shoulder cooldowns, and your always vulnerable trying to go in. If you want speed, dual pistol/SMGs is the way to go.

Pretty much the case, first time I killed ALLMIND/Iguazu I hit him with pilebunker as he was about to attack with a melee as well, thought that wouldve been a cool as frick shot so I spent a good amount of attempts trying to get that and I'm glad I managed to get something just as good

Double Ludlow is the legit king of automatic kinetics. Just use one of the top 3 Recoil Reduction arms. Gatling would be better but it has insane recoil. Ludlow meanwhile can be perfectly compensated for and have laser accuracy.
Yes. Recoil matters. Don't hold down your Gatling Gun trigger more than a second at a time or half your shots will fly super wide. Twin Ludlow DPS with good recoil arms is fricked up. You can't even match it with 2gat
I wish there was Heaven and Hell mode from DMC where both you and enemies one-shot each other.
Obviously you can't get ranks, achievements and money in this mode.
I'm already in chapter 4 in my 2nd playthrough and started using the OP stuff that I didn't use in my first playthrough.
This shit is stupid. I don't get why these Zimmers and Songbirds are that strong. Everything is a cakewalk with this. I use the dagger blade because it's actually really good with a great cooldown as well.
Also Fires was the right ending to do first before the other ending. There are a lot of missions and discussions that make more sense if you already have an idea what's happening.
New NG+ missions are also a nice touch. I'm surprised how they did a goddamn trio battle with Aster, Cowbreasts, and that stupid ass Raven de Forma. Just because it's NG+ they really put that shit there.

Have you tried the plasma missiles? Specifically the vertical launcher, though the single frontal launcher isn't bad. Pulse cannons are also pretty good if you double up on them.
I used to run the starter 4x missile and the 3x forward plasma missile launcher. Never was a fan of vertical missiles, even in plasma form. I also liked to bait enemies into dodging one set of missiles then nail them with the second, which is easier to time correctly with forward launching missiles.
Nevertheless, I find missiles in general are too easy to dodge, too slow to reload, and too low in both armor and posture damage, and on a light AC it's hard to equip any but the smallest launchers, which just don't really get any kind of job done well.
The TRUENO launchers are very nice for light builds, they unlock at the beginning of chapter 3 I believe in NG++.
Killed the Alaskan Ice Bullworm, it is kind of annoying how easy it is for the giant frickers to just kill you by colliding with you, especially if it's the first time you're fighting the boss.

Pack a weapon with a lot of ammo like the laser pistol to deal with the MTs, and that's pretty much it. You can just run around picking off MTs until Michigan and the tetrapods show up, and they alone aren't much of a threat. The tetrapod in the final wave is also very slow, both on its feet and in the head, and you can literally just lead Michigan away from it and it'll have a hard time following.

No. Your sortie list just starts over from the second mission. You can access all missions you've done in the replay list.
NG+ lets you do the other decision missions you didn't pick, plus has NG+ and NG++ exclusive missions.

its just that deciding what's fast or not is also another ballpark since boosts, quick boosts, and assault boosts can have differing values depending on your frame, weapons, and boosters.
here's some work someone else did on the relation between weight and boost speed. Obviously as weight increases boost speed decreases, but as you can see how much it decreases by isn't consistent at all.

Do what you enjoy. You already know they're good, but the game can be completed with a really wide variety of weapons even for a first-timer.

People that enjoy the game try to squeeze as much content as possible and avoid overpowered weapons like the plague.
My first NG build was a modest reverse joint AC with dual rifles or pistols, a missile, and a hanger pilebunker. It was really gratifying to use, particularly against MTs, and especially when I could pile another AC and kill them before they could repair. It's the kind of AC I'd make back in AC1-3.
But zimzams and songbirds just annihilate everything, especially when spamming assault boosts, kicks, and assault armor. Bosses that are like banging my head against a brick wall with other builds are completely helpless against zimmers and nade spam. Once you're used to how bosses behave and how your AC moves these guns go from "really fricking good" to "wow this is broken."
People really aren't exaggerating with the whole YOU DIDN'T BEAT THE GAME thing when talking about these guns. Every AC dies before their dialog finishes, every boss dies before they fully transition into their 2nd phase. It's not uncommon to kill an AC within 8 seconds of it showing up unless they have a shoulder shield, and that just delays the inevitable. One zim kills just about every MT in a single shot under 200 meters. You can kill the test pilot AC before he even fires a shot with this build. You just T-pose on the entire fricking game.
As if that's not enough, zimzams are actually obscenely fun and satisfying. I'm really surprised they weren't nerfed into the ground with the first balance patch.
I'm trying to beat the Redguns, but keep running out of ammo. Is it worth switching to a melee weapon for a backup option?

Just git gud, Killing Michigan is what you're supposed to do in NG.
Also stop wasting your ammo on literally whos on focus your firepower on michigan, use melee weapons for his frickbuddies.
bring missiles and use multi lock to kill the small fry. Or just kick them all.
Melee is always good. I had missiles to take care of grunts in range but its better to focus on michigan. Grab 3 charges of assault armor for more damage if you can.
Conserve ammo by targeting the heli dropships and shooting them before they deploy their MT squads. It takes out the MTs too.
Try to kick a lot if you run low during this mission.

i think because they come early people think they're underpowered. even if you want two birds or lazer guns on your shoulder you can put a multilock in one of your hands
Bring a laser pistol. It has a shit gazillion ammo and at 100 energy weapon specialization will two shot MTs.
Laser pistol will one shot the smaller adds and drones that fly around a lot
Pulse rifle will one shot any MT
Be conservative, make every shot count
Songbirds for the tetrapods and Michigan, pulse missiles for anything else. I got it fairly easy with this build

Snailteus's pulse barrier recharge running on a set timer so that it automatically still comes back up even when you stagger him is pretty bullshit.

There's a lot of incidental dialogue in this game that can be missed, like when you finish the loghunt right before the final boss, allmind asks if you're the kind of person that only works right before the deadline or something to that effect.
Either way it's funny to see her get caught off guard by stuff like that. The sudden bits of genuine personality coming from the soulless AI almost makes you feel bad for her.
In the end she was right, the coral release just ended up with the coral pitting everyone against each other. Imagine the order you bring with Allmind. I just wish there was an alternate end with her hijacking Ayre's place and you wake up with Allmind instead.

Get closer and use a different FCS, as your FCS determines your rate of lockon. I like to fight close up, so I use one of the RI close range FCS.

He probably didn't have it. It was one of the Institute ACs recovered by Arquebus when they took control of Institute City. In the Liberator route, Arquebus brainwashed him, augmented him, and stuck him in the AC as their weapon of last resort. In the third route, Arquebus was slaughtered in Watchpoint Alpha, letting Walter swoop in and claim the AC for himself since 621 went AWOL.

I used anywhere between 30-35 on the reflective of the gold segments since different textures look better on different segments. If you're trying to make your gold or any metallic parts pop, make sure your other colored segments have a much less reflective coat of paint, I use 8 for the white/black segments of Last-Light.

Its easy to boost to them between gaps of their missiles.
I am using a light build with laser drones so maybe its a lot easier to chip at them while trying to close the gap. Running under them and quick boosting also helps vs lock on.
Are you running an energy build? If not you should probably switch to Huxleys.
Huxleys are nice but they dont home in to your target. I'm really just using the drones as a distraction while i circle around with boosts shooting wtih ducketts

Your save is corrupted. You have two options.
If you want to save all your decals and paint colors and builds, start a new game. You'll delete your old "corrupted" save but all that other shit will be saved. Then you have to beat the game again and buy everything.
Or you could download a 100% save but you lose all your decals, builds, and paint colors.
It's a known issue, there is no fix, I've tried. Unless someone finds out exactly which hex values to fix, like they did in Elden Ring, you're fricked. I just beat the game again 3 times, because honestly, decals and paintcolors and builds would take me longer than beating the game again.

The key is to be on the same X axis, it'll mostly hit.

None of the parts are bad but none of them are stacked either. I was going up against twin zim tanks and stun gun heavies and won. I should probably mention that the lobby had rotated a few times. Some of them weren't great but all of them were pretty good build wise and w few piloting wise. After using my more competitive ACs like Related switched to Point Man and then cleaned house

Just finished my first playthrough and got Fires of Raven.
I don't know what to say guys, it's really damn cool. It scratch the itch of me missing ZOE a whole lot. Lots of damn cool fights, lots of great set pieces.
I don't think it's going to be a AAA game, but a great AA game for FS. I hope they continue making it.
If not, I hope they get to do a full fledged Gundam RPG.

You can. Don't overthink it, you can use AoE like an Earshot, Assault Armor, or even Pulse Protection. That barrier blows up the drones instantly on contact and gives you a bigger window than Assault Armor.

For me, what really makes laser pistols insane is the are crazy ammo efficient. They do solid damage per shot while having triple the ammo of most energy weapons. Honestly, I have run out of ammo on some of the longer missions with a lot of different guns, but ive never even come close with those pistols. I intentionally avoided using laser weapons in the NG+ and NG++ in general because they honestly were just too damned convenient my first time through the game.
So question, what's the best shoulder weapon for dual laser pistols? I'm currently using huxly for easy stagger, while the other shoulder for laser blade. As you can see in

EN supply efficiency and EN recharge delay is visible in the AC specs, I kinda expected the supply recovery and post-recovery energy to be shown in the specs as well when switching AC parts but I guess there's no way to tweak those numbers in any way and is strictly tied to the generators. Anyway thanks for clarifying.
Stats on the left are for the component, stats on the right are ones with modifiers applied.
EN supply efficiency is directly tied to spare EN capacity. So you can get great supply efficiency if you don't use energy weapons.
Recharge delay is based on the generator with a modifier from the core.
These are internal combustion generators so air flow and cooling would be factors.
Its a bit like saying why does a car with a supercharger get more power out of the same engine than one without it.

I just finished the first play through. Can someone give me a good speed build that still uses the strong 1 weapon, 1 melee weapon, and 2 shoulder weapons?
I did my whole 1st playthrough with just using a standard bipedal legs and it's time to change it. I want to speed.

The moron wheel chair is fastest in the game I believe. I find that keeping your total weight around or below 70k helps a lot with keeping a "fast" feeling bipedal. The lightweight and melander legs can get you a pretty decent speed, but I still prefer reverse joint. They are a bit slower outright but the jump more than makes up for it imo. I used the heavy chickens for a wall but they do feel kind of slow on the ground so I switched to the allmind reverse joint
I can confirm, try heavy reverse joints. If you feel you're slow, then you're not jumping enough.

I honestly can't see a main hand melee weapon only ever being a good build, serviceable sure especially with moonlight. It just lacks constant good pressure, speed killing, lots of downtime even more so with shoulder cooldowns, and your always vulnerable trying to go in. If you want speed, dual pistol/SMGs is the way to go.

Double Ludlow is the legit king of automatic kinetics. Just use one of the top 3 Recoil Reduction arms. Gatling would be better but it has insane recoil. Ludlow meanwhile can be perfectly compensated for and have laser accuracy.

Yes. Recoil matters. Don't hold down your Gatling Gun trigger more than a second at a time or half your shots will fly super wide. Twin Ludlow DPS with good recoil arms is fricked up. You can't even match it with 2gat

This shit is stupid. I don't get why these Zimmers and Songbirds are that strong. Everything is a cakewalk with this. I use the dagger blade because it's actually really good with a great cooldown as well.
Also Fires was the right ending to do first before the other ending. There are a lot of missions and discussions that make more sense if you already have an idea what's happening.
New NG+ missions are also a nice touch. I'm surprised how they did a goddamn trio battle with Aster, Cowbreasts, and that stupid ass Raven de Forma. Just because it's NG+ they really put that shit there.
I really wished they utilized Branch more in the story, that mission is literally the only time they show up

Coral generators are best used for staying airborne without going for quadlegs, imo
All you need is at least 1 weapon that stops you when you shoot and you can get at least double your energy bar's worth of airtime
