Hi anon, what have you been playing? What are you looking forward to playing next? Post and discuss your favorites.
I'm in act 3 of torchlight 2. It's not a bad game, but I don't think I'll play it again because the skills are kinda meh.

D2r 2.5 ladder
Torchlight 2 with the Synergies mod necromancer was kino
Raise Dead if you got it to the first pip was unfathomably busted, you shit out a fiend that could eat corpses, and when it ate corpses it popped out another, stronger fiend that could do that too
Combine this with the vastly increased enemy amounts in Synergies mod meant that your horde killed a couple packs, then you cast raise dead and it was a literal tidal wave of self-propagating undead just killing and creating more of themselves rampaging across the entire map. Necromancer was in no way balanced but holy shit was he fun.
Will D4 be ludo?
i donf even know what ludo is supposed to mean, but it will probably be alright to play with your casual friends. Mine can't get into complicated stuff, and the last dude who played poe got burned out hard. Then again, given the state of the game I won't either.
I hope the itemization will end up being better than
>+atk/def
>+angelic/demonic stat
It's a bit worrisome that their reaction to everyone thinking the itemization was crap when they first revealed it was "yeah, we agree completely".
But maybe that means they'll steer it in a good direction?
>nooo you can't just increase my damage, you have to call it "intelligence" and make it slightly increase mana too!
No, just have other stuff like
>faster run/walk
>faster cast rate
>faster hit recovery
etc., which has been completely absent from anything they've shown initially.
Something that allows for potential tradeoffs instead of
>Do I want more atk? Yeah, I think I want more atk
>this man has never touched anything besides diablo 3
lol
lmao
I think I'm going to play Grim Dawn next. I was enjoying Titan Quest, but I got stuck on a boss monster. And then other than that, the only arpgs that I own and haven't played are Diablo 3, and Sacred 1/2.
A bit cautious about D4, knowing how israeli Blizz is becoming with their monetization and the rapid fanboys that eat up their shit. But watching the leaked videos - it's a big world but there isn't much going on. Think of it as a top-down pseudo-mmo (without the rpg) that's hellbent on getting every last penny from you. that said, the art direction for D4 does look good.
Grim Dawn's pretty good actually.
>Grim Dawn's pretty good actually.
Yeah, I pirated it a couple years ago and I enjoyed it. Idr the class names, but I was a necromancer/pyromancer combo so I had flaming skeletons.
D4 has already been confirmed to have heavy monetization in it on top of 70dollaru pricetag
Why even contemplate supporting activizzard? My integrity prevents me from ever doing so again.
>from the creator of....
https://twitter.com/torchlight_xd/status/1572112552414543873
Isn't the new torchlight more of a phone game like diablo immoral? "From the creators of" and alike is definitely a meme today, lol.
Yeah, it’s total freemium garbage like Immortal. At least T3 had the decency to be offline and a one-time purchase.
>franchise dying
>decides to hire some useless hack to further garner interest in some shitty mobile game
i just hope the ruskies can make an offline version of the game
>i just hope
Can't live without activizzard propaganda?
I’ll probably never find a game for me in this genre, despite liking them so much.
I’m a total weeb so I’ve searched but I’m near damn sure there’s zero Anime style games for this, right?
Remilor or Snack World mght be to your liking.
How are those two? Snack never seems to go on sale, but some trailers looked ok.
I’m totally being shallow, but I’ve already played a ton of Diablo and Titan Quest and such. I’m tired of the ultra realistics and want an anime version. Simple as that
Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I’ve been doing so. Not like I’m in a hurry at least.
Snack World his interesting in that it has the structure of a MonHun (go on missions to a small number of areas (here randomly generated), kill zako for materials for crafting armor (but not weapons, which are random drops/rewards for finishing the mission, also which have randomized stats and effects)), but it also has leveling.
game play should matter more than graphics.
Not that I know of. Your best bet is maybe looking for games that share the camera angle and combat/hack and slash part, but I can't remember that low poly samurai game. Just found it Samurai Bringer
You are probably better off looking for Zelda inspired games for now, something like Kamiko, Moonlighter and alike. The arpg genre is already thin today, and chances are slim for a company to cater to it.
bamp
PoE devs are so focused on PoE2 they're neglecting PoE 1, Diablo 4 will be shit, current day Blizzard is incapable of making a good game, haven't played Last Epoch but it doesn't look appealing, tired to death of Grim Dawn and Titan Quest.
Have you tried any older games, friend? These are all supposed to be good:
Beyond Divinity
Diablo 1 (gog has it)
Divine Divinity
Sacred 1
Sacred 2
Last Epoch looks odd but its literally the best bits of PoE and D2 combined. The skill trees mean a huge amount in terms of your build and itemisation can completely change how you play or even make new builds viable.
I like what they did with DoTs
Im just in love with the fact you can properly go full Zeus mode and just obliterate everything with nothing but a range of lightning spells.
Also bug druid is cool.
Electrify Javelin build?
I found a Turani Bident with 3LP, was going to try that at some point.
Last Epoch bro, nice
I hate how building around interesting synergies and procs sucks because the raw damage nodes in the skill tree are way too overpowered and you can't justify running anything other than a max sheet dps ungabunga monkey build with a main nuke and a bunch of autocasts/buffs unless you enjoy actively gimping yourself and playing underpowered builds.
>the skills are kinda meh.
Because it's the same 1 dimensional gameplay as Diablo 2 where you spam one special attack and healing/mana positions repeatedly.
I enjoyed Diablo 2 much more than Torchlight 2.
WH40k inquisition is fun. Ignore insane homosexuals who want a lifes purpose replacer. Its worth the money.
I don't think I ever liked a diablo clone more than Champions of Norrath
Has anyone ever tried out lesser known diablo clones like pic related?
Haven't so far, but I'm still working through the "good" ones.
no - ive been told that its only ok (but, knowing the sources, that might mean more of an inadvertent endorsement than they realize) but if it ever gets down cheap enough, i might give it a go.
Diablo 4 being a mmolite is the last nail in PoE 2's coffin
Are they actually making a second game, or are they just going to keep updating the first one? I've heard conflicting things.
PoE 2 is just a new alternative campaign in the same game. A couple of features will be added alongside, but it's not an entirely new game. Ironically, the campaign is the least liked element of the game, and it renders their endeavour completely pointless and a waste of time. It will rake in a lot of newcomers due to P O E 2, wow (!), but will die shortly after when everyone realises that it's the same game with a new glorified tutorial, that they all have to walk through every time they want to try out a build.
It will come with new skills, systems and classes, which is good enough for me. But I also like the campaign and don't understand the gamer obsession with "endgame".
It's just a marketing term for 4.0 expansion. Most of the info is from 2019 so it's honestly a bit pointless to talk about it right now because they haven't told us anything new outside a short gameplay trailer from 2021 showing off one of the new acts. In short the biggest features of 4.0 (based on 2019 info) are going to be a new campaign, 18 new subclasses and a revamped skill gem link system. Also they're trying to 'slow down' the current game. Not only have they failed at it, they've also made the community hate them. They've basically lost all of the goodwill they garnered from 2016 to 2020 (the period when the game blew up in popularity) in the past year and a half.
and still you have morons coming back to them, so its crystal clear: poe is basically a shit tier drug, people should stay away
Do (You) have any highly sought features or QoL elements you wish were more present withing ARPGs?
Loot pets or auto-pickup for currency items and alike. It's fricking annoying how click heavy these games can get, and picking up small titbits of items that ultimately just serve as a distraction.
Separate area to hold charms
Potions stack
WASD character movement
>Fully sortable/searchable/infinite stash. I like the tetris inventory, but once it's in the stash it should be like a fricking database.
>Full control over namelocking, ground targeting etc.
>Ability to change armour appearance at will to anything you want (grim dawn has this except they made it cost a moronic amount of gold for some reason)
>A game that doesn't run like shit
namelocking?
Titan Quest is getting shitload of patches for some reason, in goddamn 2022. Not that I complain. Also waiting Lost Epoch sale, look nice.
What's the appeal of games in this style? I've tried them time and time again, but I just don't find them engaging. Is it really as simple as number go up?
It used to be about creating and tinkering with builds, looking for item interactions, killing bosses and waves of monsters, but today the genre's biggest title reduced it to numbers go up and grinding your life away over temporary pixels.
You aren't autistic enough
ARPGs are the most fundamental 'haha numbers go up' genre you can get short of just playing Progress Quest. If you don't take a weird satisfaction in watching numbers go up then you won't like it.
mod it. 10x the fun. TL2 without mods is snoozefest
What mods would you recommend?
Not playing anything atm. Just waiting for Diablo 4. I love everything they're doing with the game
last i read about D4, i saw an item which gave +"Attack" and +"Defense", and I checked out.
did it get any better?
Nobody knows until closed beta leaks
>make dianlo clone
>add boring loot
Why
Why do they do this EVERYTIME
How can we characterize what is "good loot" and what is "bad loot" in a diablo clone?
bad loot = stats stick
Have been playing through FATE and Torchlight again. Since I'm older and actually understand how RPG stats work it's been a lot more fun making broken characters.
Chronicon was pretty alright.
The Ascent.
I just wish it had more fast travel.
I've been playing Grim Dawn. It's been fun, and I actually stuck with it long enough this time to get a character to level 100. I'm really looking forward to Last Epoch's full release.
I couldn't get into Torchlight 2. I remember being really excited about playing it when I was younger for some reason, but I didn't get far into it. I tried playing it again recently as an embermage and didn't like it. Like you said, it's not a bad game, but I found it incredibly boring, and I say this as someone who likes Grim Dawn .
anyone played the Warhammer 40K Inquisitor - Martyr game?
How is it?
Quite alright. I will come back to it at some point. Buy it on sale though, like you should with all games.
Which class are you playing? Because the skill tree quality changes drastically between classes. Embermage must be one of the most boring casters ever, but engineers have so many tools and playstyles that they are fun all the way through.
I think it's called outlander. But it's a ranged character. My guy uses a bow instead of guns.
Does TL2 have any decent and complete class mods yet? I played it years ago with mods and had a lot of fun, but I came back recently and saw all the same mods I used are mostly incomplete, and there's nothing new alongside it.
ARPGs are dead.
Chris Wolcen is now shitting on the corpse of the defeated.
Call me when real grim dawn mods hit or if D4 ends up being semi-decent (lel)
I got Chronicon yesterday and played for a while, seems pretty decent so far. Playing a Templar with an AoE farm focused build so I can just run around and rack up a big combo multiplier, though I was really tempted to play Warlock as well.
I really love TL2 because since it's mechanics can become so wild, it makes every build viable no matter how crazy. It's not something you see much in today's games mostly because of "balancing"
Anyone played Torchlight on the Switch? If yes, how do these 2 games (Torchlight 2 and 3) run? Both are on a sale atm.
Don't get 3 unless you hate yourself.
I'll be honest with you. The only Torchlight game I played was 1 back in those ooooold X360 days. I heard positive comments about 2, but for 3 - not so much. Is it the performance, or is the game just...bad?
I don't hate myself, which is why I didn't force myself to finish games such as Hollow Knight and CrossCode. Is Torchlight 3 really THAT bad?
>inb4 git Diablo 2
lol, never
No the other anon, but Torchlight 3 is very bad gameplay-wise. As for performance on the Switch, I dunno.
Torchlight 2 on the Switch runs like a charm though.
Thank you! Ok, I'm buying T2.
rate my stats system:
strength: increases damage rolls of melee weapons by 1-1 for every 5 points.
agility: increases chance to dodge by 1 for every 2 points
dexterity: increases chance to hit by 1 for every 2 points
constitution: +2hp for every point
intelligence: increases quick-cast spell count and increases damage rolls for wand weapons by 1-1 for every 5 points
mind: +2 mana
of course every stat is a requirement for a weapon type
you get 5 stats on level up, and will level up 6 times in the first 90mins of playtime
Looks alright. Strength would disproportionally favor fast small weapons compared to big slow ones, but maybe that doesn't matter for you.
fast attacking smaller weapons require points in agi/dex, so one couldn't dump all in strength and expect that strategy to work
Sorry I've always found ARPGs very dull, they're incredibly repetitive. Maybe I should give Torchlight 2 another go but I didn't get into it.
I bought Diablo 3 on switch a few days ago and I’m a bit disappointed that I can’t find anyone playing online.
A match browser would have been useful.
