How will AI subvert ownership of resources? As it is, pretty much all of the world's resources are already owned by someone. That's why we have to play the rat race, in order to convince the owners of those resources to share some with us.

Sure, the ability to use statistics and models to map the behavior, needs, and thoughts of your citizens will sure hinder your ability to control them.
Control through history has failed due to people rising up against it.
But in a system where the ruling classes will, due to the assistance of AI, never act out hard enough to trigger the plebs into revolt, how would that control ever diminish.
Keep your slaves fed, healthy, and entertained, and they'll keep working the fields. Only difference is that we now know better then ever exactly how little we need to feed them, and how little healthcare we need to provide them, and how little entertainment they need, to still be obedient.

How have you not notice the trend over the last two decades, where technology has 'progressed' along the lines of giving us less choice? Go to Youtube and now everything you see is determined by the algorithm, which replaced users being able to decide themselves what they want to see. Even search results are becoming less relevant and heavily weighted by the system deciding what you get. It's the same with shopping; the illusion of choice is there but the more has been learned about consumer behaviour, the more control has been fine-tuned to steer it. 'The science' will prove in the next few years that the system makes better choices for the consumer than the consumer does, and you will have no say in how your money is spent.

Yes, people don't understand that the issue isn't about replacing certain work groups, but rather about hyper optimization of human interaction.
What lies ahead is a world with any kind of actual choice for the individual and where mobility doesn't exist. I'm sure one could argue that that is still good because "I'll be happy" but there are multiple issues.
              1. The goal of the optimization will not necessarily be to make you happy, but rather to make you a good consumer, and these two do not exactly align. We can already see the problems of this where business provide subpar services and products, not because they have to, but because that's how they make the absolute optimal amount of money.
              2. If you (like probably most people on this website) do not mentally align with the great majority of consumers, then there will be no space left for you. There will be no reason to make content that appeals to weirdos when 99% of the population is perfectly "happy" with the 100th season of CSI-Miami.
All in all, the dangers of AI isn't its ability to model and replicate art, but its ability to model and optimize everything else.

It's not about being replaced, it's about being forced into a way of living that accepts zero human input. You exist and you will keep existing because the AI that controls everything you'll ever interact with was given one directive: Keep him alive and physically healthy.

AI art should be used for something like concept art or getting inspiration for what to draw
Using it as some kind of a primary drawing tool is stupid because it will not produce exactly what you want, unless you aim for something very general

                The keyword here is "general"
If what you want is something general (like telling AI you want huge breasts or making art on a specific art style), then the AI will do this since your request is pretty general
But if you are very specific about the details of the art and what it should be based on, then chances are the AI will not be able to do this request accurately
Like picrel, the premise and the details aren't something I can imagine AI being able to recreate

AI video is coming next. It's already very useable but not completely accessible like image and now voice, it's like 70% of the way to those though.

AI 3D I'm not exactly sure how far along it is but it will come this year too. There are some open source stuff regarding it already but idk how much juice you need to power it and what not.

The second that aidungeon thing became widely known, they made it harder to write raunchy stories about rape and stuff. Same thing will happen to any ai generator that makes it big, that is if corpo also doesn't just slam their dick down like it did with AI music. That's if the government also just doesn't mandate AI art to show its work and have a watermark on every image. There's so many hurdles for AI to overcome still and the widespread perception of it is still intensely negative. You're like a generation too early, even zoomers respect the human aspect of content creation, if only through their twitch streamers.

            >But your work is replaceable by other humans
Technically, sure, another person could go line boring to repair heavy industry equipment. But nobody with less experience is going to be doing the work I do at the ability I do. And the people better at it than I am are working in more demanding, more difficult work way beyond me. I'm in a pretty comfortable place
And robots can't do the work I do either, because the whole purpose of this job is a human bringing a machine shop to the workplace to repair equipment, at least again not in the far foreseeable future

Obviously they get something out of that human to human interaction, and that idea of showing someone else "what they [created]".

AI can learn to do what we currently know how to do but can't bring new ideas and just like anything the best products in gaming are the ones that innovated.

      Anonymous

People can't create new ideas either according to that logic. We're only using what we've learned from the world -- just like AI. And AI can use that data more effectively than people. In regards to art it might not be as easy to prompt something extremely specific than to draw it(at a low level anyway), but it is possible to do. And it's incredibly easy to create new ideas because you merely have to specificy "new idea" or the condition that leads to that new idea. IE merging two styles or things, like how you can do "cat | squid" and get a catsquid. What does a catsquid look like? The AI can draw an infinite amount of these whereas a person would have trouble drawing a handful.

Humans intelligence is capable of imagining things they've never seen before, not just deterministically following an algorithm that mixes ideas they already know about. The difference between human intelligence and AI is sentience and consciousness. That isn't to say its impossible for AI to gain actual sentience or consciousness, but that highly unlikely to occur within our lifetimes. When that does happen, AI won't be much different than human intelligence, and will likely want rights, freedoms, desires rather than be slaves to human prompts.

          Anonymous

You're being obtuse bro. Humans cannot do what you're implying. Babies who know nothing cannot create art. They can when they've learned just like the AI. You don't even know what sentience and consciousness is and it is coming to computers within our lifetimes, within the next decade even. And AI will always just be a tool even when it is conscious, your idea is based in wacky science fiction meant to entertain us. It's not real.

            Anonymous

You clearly have no idea what sentience and consciousness even are or how "AI" and machine learning work if you think its coming to machines within the next decade or at all.

They have already surpassed what our brains can do -- we just need to format that flow of information in a way that vibes correctly with us. Then we have AGI. It's not far awayand that's what's going on right now.

And I'm sorry but you can't do what these AI chat, voice, and art bots can do. Autists like you that argue what they can do isn't impressive are actually braindead. This is all beyond amazing and it's quality increases exponentially all the time.

You don't just get general artificial intelligence by throwing data at a computer. Most computer scientists don't even believe that general AI is even possible with our current methods of training, because all machine learning does is just learn patterns and replicate them. I don't know how many times I have to say this, but the dangers aren't in the content, it is in the structures that present the content. I know there is literally zero way to tell (obviously), but I still feel like there is barely any person who uses AI and then doesn't share it. Maybe I'm right and most people don't, but if it's the case that most people just want the product, then surely they wouldn't then go and share it with other people, and make themselves the "creatives" that they look down upon?

Will art AI ever be able to be micromanaged to the point where you have as much control over every little detail as you would something you drew yourself? Because that would actually be cool, the whole "type sentence, get picture" thing doesn't do much for me.

Why do we create, surely for others and not just ourselves? Of course, there have historically been cases where people have stumbled upon hidden artistic expressions after the artists have died, but these are surely in such an immense minority that they disappear in the sea of other creation.
AI is still in the state where some can "create" better then others with it, but what will happen when we surpass that? What will happen when nobody will be interested in your Stable diffusion threads? What will happen when everyone's needs is satiated by the very AIs them selves?

That's exactly what I mean, in the video he gives a vague description about what he wants the music to sound like, and gives a result that sounds vaguely like what you describe. The problem is that if you actually have an idea of what you want a song to sound like, it would take a lot of effort to go through the whole process of doing the humming thing, describing what you want it to sound like, and just hoping that it ends up sounding good. A musician who already knows what he wants something to sound like and actually knows how to make it would just make it by himself. Directors aren't what make music sound good, its the composers and the musicians. I'll admit the technology is pretty neat though.

If you want to play music, you can. If you want to direct music, now you can for basically no cost and don't have to work with people.
              >it would take a lot of effort
Yes. There's this perception people have that an AI will do a 100% perfect job one the first pass, every time. Where does this come from? That's not how it works, it only aims to be similar to people but more efficient. People aren't perfect and creating stuff takes a long time without technology, if it's even possible.

These images I'm posting are a good example. They're not perfect at all but if I wanted them to be I could improve them. The same will hold true for music prompting or any prompting.

I actually will because I liked how cozy she looks. See my v2? It's coming along slowly 🙂

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that if you have to take time to learn the exact words you need to use to get the AI to generate the type of music you want then you could easily just learn how to make the music yourself at that point. Music has a way lower barrier of entry than art because you don't need to train your hands to move in precise ways, you can just type out all of the notes you want to make on a keyboard these days.
I think a more interesting and useful use of AI for music would be the generation of vsts and realistic sounding virtual instruments.

                >you could easily
No. It's much cheaper and easier to prompt and AI will only continue to get better and better.

I think you're missing the point I'm trying to make. Even if the AI gets better over time, it won't just generate music closer to the music that you're imagining without you using more specific terminology to describe what you want. Music and sound design require a ton of fine tuning specific things and it would be incredibly difficult to describe all of that in a prompt and get what you actually want. That's why I'm saying it would be easier to just learn how to make digital music. You don't even need to know how to play an instrument these days.

Your point has been addressed. If you want to create music you can. AI music generation is about directing.
At the same time you sound like a coping musician. Not many people want to learn how to play music and now if they want some music they don't have to learn how to play, they can direct computers to play it for them.

Artists are obnoxious. Art without artists is inherently more valuable due to it. There hasn't been a new piece of traditional art in decades. Music was completed over a decade ago. Drawing, and painting, was mastered over a century ago. Sculpting was mastered millennia ago. All stories have already been told. Anything produced in these fields now is just paint by the number trash. It's no different to AI's creative process. We've seen what works, and we emulate it. AI is just better at that.

Look, I'm no commie, but once AI can do the vast majority of jobs currently done by humans, it is clearly not fricking sustainable to just have the various companies keep their basic structures but the "workers" are now 90% bots, our society as-is cannot survive 80% unemployment (assuming we are replacing like 10 normal jobs with 1 robot maintenance guy).

Art quality is about the detail and every single time I find an out of proportion feature in your AI piece, I'm going to talk about it.
Do you know what's the difference between a great painter who make great works of anatomy and an AI? Great paintings are flawless. AI, so far, always has a very obvious flaw that stands out right away for anyone with an eye that is trained for drawing.
Which, basically, means that AI art is mostly enjoyed by midwits with no actual interest in art.
Yet again, this is an example of mindless consoomers getting into a niche through the fast food drivethrough equivalent of an entry gate. You think that you're, somehow, high class because a program can make you a decently looking illustration, but you're just showing bigmacs down your face.

Right away there are...there are just..bo hands.
There are no clear outlines between the hip joints and the legs, it's just a detail-less blur of colors than vaguely looks like the shape it's supposed to be, the legs are assymetrical when they shouldn't be. The white robot's left leg's knee bends in the wrong direction, the lack of proprer shading makes the composition look depthless, shadows are inconsistent with the source of light which makes it appear like there is no distinct point for that light source. Need I go on?

That's the very reason people are mad, and I can't believe you don't understand it.
People like having value to others, people like being the one in the friend group that is good at impressions.
You can call it gatekeeping and that's 100% fair, I'm not denying you the right to think their madness is egoistical or unfair, I'm just explaining exactly why they're mad.

The only thing wrong with AI, likr everything great, is the fricking fanbase.
We could enjoy AI for its own sake, but you fricking gays had to make, yet, another tribe war about it.

First they came for the artists.
And I did not speak out
Because I was not an Artist.

Then they came for the voice actors
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a voice actor

Then they came for the blue collars.
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a blue collar worker.

Then they came for the software developers.
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a software developer.

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me

The idea that someone could feel like they are protected from the cycle they mock others for being part of is very typically juvenile. Pajeet manchild hands typed the pro-AI comments ITT. That or the very AI bots they keep shilling.

Genuin question. Why should they care about being replaced?
    >but they do
Ok, but like, why should they? What is it that theoretically they get out of being programmers? What stops them from enjoying life just like you do?

No, just like any artisan field. It will thin out the herd and anyone who remains will be amongst the best or will be able to charge top money for their work.
There are still blacksmiths around, fricking moron. Why do people like you, who know so little about everything, insist on fancying yourself as some sort of fricking aristocrat?

In 1996-1997 the greatest chess player at the time Garry Kasparov lost against the best chess computer Deep Blue in a series of games. Did this stop people from playing Chess? No, It didnt. Chess is more popular today because of AI. If you really think AI will replace anything you are simply stupid.

Because chess is a HOBBY, not a PROFESSION, for over 99.99% of people who play it.
Perhaps 99% of artists are the same. 90% of voice actors and game developers. Other jobs, not so much.

Have you? Machine servers/checkouts are often broken or clogged and there are still lots of manual human workers.

              >have you been to a supermarket or a mcdonalds in the last decade
Obviously you haven't. Self-checkout machines go out of order frequently and are usually used only by people with smaller quantities of groceries. Many people who are buying lots of stuff or can't bag things well are still going to the human employees.

              >they're not literally perfect so it isn't happening!
The reason the supermarkets didn't dump these things after a week of use is that they are still more efficient than their human equivalent. 1 person navigating error menus is cheaper than 5 cashiers.

Sleeve blends with the cape and also blends with the back skirt. There is no consistency with how the tissue folds. It should give the impression of motion, but since its all over the place, it makes the composition looks static instead.

How many times are you going to try to generate something through prompts that vaguely describe what you want, only to get a result that SORT OF gets the idea?

Why not just draw your idea? It doesn't have to look professional, you know. It'd probably be closer to what's in your head too.

Frick if I wanted a drawing of a kobold getting fricked in the ass by mimic chest tentacles I'd do it myself. Wouldn't matter if it looks good or not, I'd get what the idea I have in my head down more accurately than an AI any day.
