      Anonymous

Chances are, no, they can't just recreate their own massive network infrastructure for everyone to connect to. But, much like the wii and original DS, they'll set up servers you connect to directly for specific games. Same way you play the pservers for mkwii.

        Anonymous

I would assume big games like The Pokemons, Mario Kart, Kid Icarus and Animal Crossing would be salvaged?

          Anonymous

Usually people don't bother with pokemon because there's just not a large enough community (As it has high transition to new entries), but it's possible. There never were for gen4/5. At least not to my knowledge.
Mario kart, maybe, kid icarus, maybe, animal crossing, unlikely, again, new leaf stopped being popular a REALLY long time ago.
More likely, you'll see titles that just had DLC distribution or online events have servers set up that have low cost just so people can unlock the content. As an example, someone has a server set up you can connect to for DQ9 on the DS, for each region's release (even korea) that you log in to, get your dlc quests, and can log off, it even rotates like the real thing.
There's a server set up to let you download the DLC missions for advanced wars DOR, and some others like that, one for spectrobes I think.
But no one really went through the trouble to set up full on replacement servers for these titles, as the community just was not worth the size. MK wii was the last worthwhile MK title before 8 came out (Sorry, not sorry, 7 was pretty bland), and nobody actually owned a wiiu so there was a lot more interest, plus there's a version of the server you can connect to that uses one of those content mods for mkwii, and lets you play with all the new chars and courses and all that shit.

Wait why is the 3DS ending?

It still doesnt have a successor

Nintendo WFC was backed up thanks to Mario Kart Wii modders making their own servers, then sharing their work to reverse engineer other games' online. I don't think there's anything similar for Wii U and 3DS, so chances are they won't be able to salvage anything from scratch in just half a year.

            >there is no good reason for shutting down 3DS servers
Nintendo doesn't actually host the 3DS servers themselves.
There's a whole lot to the story but basically way back in the day Nintendo outsourced all their online stuff to a third party company which itself has gone through various acquisitions and such over the years.
The Switch is the first Nintendo system where Nintendo is handling the online servers in-house.
Either the third party company handling 3DS stuff is shutting down or Nintendo wants to get out of their business relationship.

Because then it devalues their ports and remakes. They're bringing Luigi's Mansion 2 to Switch, for example, so people being able to play the original online and/or via emulator devalues that experience. They want to take away the games you already own and then sell you them again.

Yes, it's actually shocking how easy it is. It seriously feels exactly the same as when the game first came out in terms of finding matches. If it weren't for the miiverse features being gone, I wouldn't notice anything changed.

Honestly I think the 3DS might be my favorite console of all time, as it had access to the best handheld library (DS) while also having a good library by itself and decent emulation capabilities. I don’t think I’ll ever finish my (3)DS backlog.

It was cool getting streetpass hits from people all over the world. It was a great passively social system. A ton of fun to play with friends, or with people online. I don't think it's really worth getting in the modern day, but for its time it was a blast.

Don't worry, there's already an alternative for that game. Mario Kart 7's CTGP mod pack offers a vanilla mode with its own servers, designed to help people tired of cheaters on the official 3DS servers. Priitendo also intend to speed up development in response to the shutdown, so maybe they'll nip that one in the bud too.

You gotta go for it man. No reason not to. If you care about playing these games online, you'll need Priitendo (hacked) when it's ready. if you want to enhance pre existing games, you'll need it hacked too. It's worth it! There was this cool plugin for Monster Hunter XX/Generations Ultimate that'd let you connect to the US Switch version.

By the end of a console's life, hacking it is usually fool-proof, with the worst outcomes 95% of the time being things didn't work properly because you missed a step or something, and the other 5% being something annoying like a soft brick, which is still fixable.

Gender actually matters in Awakening though, they'd have to do a lot more than just change the text on the character select screen to alter the fact that Male Robin knocks up women and female Robin gets knocked up by Chrom.

Connections between players are peer to peer, but fighting games use servers to inform players that other people are playing and connect them together (like when someone has a room up and you join it, or when you queue up for Ranked and it puts you into a "this person is this rank and is available to play" state), so they're fricked too.

      >With some exceptions, online services will end for all Nintendo 3DS and Wii U software. Please contact publishers for information about the online services for their software.
Will it still be possible to download update data or purchased software?

      >For the foreseeable future, it will still be possible to download update data and redownload purchased software and downloadable content from Nintendo eShop.
When online services end, will StreetPass and SpotPass no longer be available either?

      >StreetPass uses local communication between Nintendo 3DS family systems, meaning that it will still be available even after online services end. However, because SpotPass uses online communication, SpotPass features will no longer be available.

      >For example, you will be able to use StreetPass in StreetPass Mii Plaza, which is pre-installed on Nintendo 3DS family systems, but you will no longer be able to use features that use online communication (such as receiving new panels in Puzzle Swap).

        >Information on Nintendo Badge Arcade Service Discontinuation

        >Applies to: New Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS XL, New Nintendo 2DS XL, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo 2DS

        >To Nintendo Badge Arcade users and those who decorate their Nintendo 3DS HOME Menu with badges

        >In conjunction with the discontinuation of online services for Nintendo 3DS software, service for all features of Nintendo Badge Arcade will also end. Prior to the end of services in early April 2024, please have a look at the points below.

        >After service ends, Nintendo Badge Arcade will display an error screen when launched.

        >If Nintendo Badge Arcade is launched after service ends, an error screen will be displayed and it will not be possible to use the software. As a result, the Practice Catcher will no longer be available.

        >It will no longer be possible to place badges in the badge box.

        >Once service ends, badges obtained in Nintendo Badge Arcade will continue to be available for decorating the Nintendo 3DS HOME Menu. However, it will no longer be possible to place badges in the badge box, meaning that users will only have access to a maximum of 100 categories and 1,000 badges that are in the badge box. We recommend that users finish placing badges before the end of services for this software.

        >Please note that badge data for decorating the HOME Menu will be saved as additional data to the SD card. If data is lost due to the SD card malfunctioning or some other reason, it will not be possible to restore badge data after the end of services in early April 2024. Therefore, we also recommend that users back up their SD card in preparation against unlikely events.

        >You can prepare multiple SD cards and save different data to each of them.

        >You cannot combine data from multiple SD cards into a single one later.

        >We sincerely thank Nintendo Badge Arcade users for supporting the software for so long and apologize for any inconvenience.

how is this a good argument or point you're trying to make? If they shut the service down, it means you can't buy anything ever again.
You know the game SMT IV Apocalypse for the 3DS? The physical copy is just the base game. But Atlus made an amazing DLC for it that was only on the eshop. Well guess what? If you never bought it, the eshop doesn't exist now. I guess I don't have the game or I have an incomplete game unless I bought it before NIntendo pulled the plug.
Next you'll say "your own fault for not buying every single eshop software before they turned it off". Go frick yourself.
