Anybody know how to reset a game's controller settings to the Valve recommended defaults? I wanted to try out Valve's config for Team Fortress 2 but I accidentally selected a community config and since then I can only choose from other player's configurations or the basic "WASD+Mouse" type shit available for all titles.
Meant to finish my Y0 playthough when I got my Deck. Only own it on PC via the Microsoft Store, but in my brief experience Moonlight streaming runs fantastically via the Deck, 10x better than from my Switch or SeXBOX, so I don't think I'll have any troubles running Yakuza from my desktop.

On one hand, i really want a Deck, the idea of a portable emulation machine that is also fits your hands is very tempting but also with a bit more money i could buy a new laptop which would allow me to also work and watch movies, browse the internet and other productivity things.

Sure you can be productive on the deck, but it's shit. Even browsing on it is painful unless you connect all the peripherals and a monitor. SD is for gaming. If you need a device for productivity, then laptop and PC are the only options.
Don't buy a gaming laptop purely for portability. Yes gaming laptops these days can run most games fine and yes they are great for productivity. But if you think you'll lay in bed and play with it on your lap without suffering 2nd degree burns or while keeping it off the charger for longer than 45 minutes you are sadly mistaken.
I do love mine but go for a deck/desktop combo if possible.

Yeah, we're starting to scrape the ceiling of li-ion batteries. Thus far we don't have a successor technology that isn't also way too big to put into any kind of consumer electronics. "Violating the laws of physics" is more that we can't pack much more energy-density into li-ion than we already are; singular batteries over 100Wh are illegal to put on boats and planes for the explosion risk if punctured and charged (you can get around this with multiple cells in a device like that Rugged Extreme laptop Dell put out that has hotswap batteries), and more normal battery-loads can already be a small bomb if charged.

The 6800U struggles to match at low wattages and only pulls ahead at 11W+, the 6600U won't fare much better.

Yeah, the 6800U is a 11w+ chip if you want to get better performance than a Deck but below that the Deck has better performance at the same watts.
Not really true, as I said above. The 6800U devices can get about 1.4x performance but you're using 18-25W+ TDP to get that which is silly. If you want a portable device the Deck is still the best option, but the others are good if you're fine being near the wall.

11w isn't that much. If that's where you lose the edge, that's not great. But then, it's really more like 9w. Anything over 9w is no longer the deck's domain.
anon at 11W+ you are basically killing your portable battery life - that's going to be a 20-25W Total system draw which will give you 2 hours at most on a device like the Loki (and for little real gain. We're talking about a 10-20% difference for a massive difference in wattage.

I dunno what the fricking deal is with chasing the portable 1080p dragon is, 720p/800p looks incredible on Steam Deck's screen. Usually looks more than good enough on Switch's screen to, I'm very much a fan of reasonable performance-targets on handheld devices.
of course it looks good, objectively 800p on a 7-in screen (250 pixels per inch) looks the same as 4k on a 17-in screen. 1080p is just a marketing point they use to try and justify their insanely high prices, but it has nothing but downsides practically speaking.

You can mitigate this by manually adjusting the resolution of all the games you play (big pain in the ass), but if it runs Windows there is no built-in FSR so it will probably look like shit.
Zen3 with RDNA 2 is objectively bad. 90% of games are GPU dependent so it does nothing but be a big battery drain. When a more power-efficient architecture like RDNA3 comes out then Zen3 will make sense.

best case it's around the same give or take a few fps for chip variance. Worst case it thermal throttles and manages to be worse than the Deck even at 11W+. While it's possible they frick up the thermals, that's unlikely.
The winmax has a significant advantage at 18W and starts getting diminishing returns going above that. The steam deck is great at low power but gets diminishing returns above 9W, which makes sense since the 6800U is a laptop APU and van gogh was clearly made for a handheld.

That game is hardly playable on PC right now. It only works on ryujinx and it’s way more stressful/cycle accurate than yuzu.

nah just hang out, even people on PC are having major issues. there will be a day 1 patch
briefly using yuzu and openGL, cutscenes were 30 but battlefield framepace was real unstable. shader related but still never really stabilized. also it crashed for me at the end of the first battlefield area (after the first 3 encounters)
i am told ryujinx runx better, will try it at some point. i'd test yuzu further but it just crashes on boot now through emudeck for whatever reason.
Just pick up a old model Switch and hack it. Switch emulation isn't fantastic on the Deck in general but it doesn't matter since 99% of the Switch library is PC ports that will play 10x better on the Steam Deck. Keep a hacked Switch around for first-party Nintendo titles and other exclusives until they inevitably go multiplat and use the Deck to emulate literally everything else, including PC games.

Pretty much anything 2D runs well, pretty much anything 3D is iffier and depends on the game's age or draw-distance. I think Mario Odyssey runs well but BotW you should stick to CEMU for, anything like Hyrule Warriors or Xenoblade is out of the question

I noticed in dark areas that CRT might not be compatible with the Deck's resolution or something, and you'll notice these bands in dark areas. So I'm looking into a way to tweak the config file for royale to maybe fix that. Will probably stick with one of the lotte's if I can't get it fixed. Royale is great when it works, but it's annoying that it's so fricking temperamental.

Death Stranding is perfect for handhelds though, I bought a tablet last year just so I could stream the game and play from bed.

If you're going to stick with these threads and try to defend the poverty option at least recommend a decent brand of nvme drive. Since only shaders have to be loaded to the onboard storage it's better to get a decent sized internal drive and a large microsd. I wish you luck in the future!

The cheapest model is totally fine, but you want to get a larger nvme drive for it. You don't need a terabyte internal because a reliable one is prohibitively expensive because steam loads all of your shader caches to the internal. So get a few hundred gigs for the internal and a terabyte micro sd and you're set forever. Treat the screws gently because at least up to now they've been self tapping screws and will rip the case apart if you tork them down.
The only thing is im kind of a brainlet and the thought of opening up the steam deck to make edits freaks me out unless theres like 3 or more tutorial videos i can use for reference

There's plenty of tutorials, but if you're worried about it get one of the other two options. You'll run out of storage very quickly with only 64GB and you don't want to be running everything off a microsd card. The more expensive options are nowhere near as bad as that anon is trying to make them sound. The specific type of storage is by far the most expensive part.

yeah, especially since shaders are stored exclusively on the internal. you'll end up installing a bunch of games on your microSD and suddenly your OS grinds to a halt because gabe really wants to make sure you have shaders.
It has a M2 slot, you can just put your own SSD. You're not stuck with the eMMC. $400 is by far the best deal and the biggest loss valve is taking.

This was my first real weekend playing my deck. I spent all last week and the weekend prior tinkering with things and getting all my emulators and controller profiles set up. This is by far the greatest hardware purchase I've made in the last ten years. I'm absolutely blown away by what this thing is capable of. I'm sad to finally retire my Vita, but happy to have finally found a true successor.

God I can't wait for Steam Deck 2. Hopefully in 10-15 years we'll be able to fit desktop-tier PCs the size of phones in our pockets and be able to play AAA games natively without streaming them. It's possible but it'd probably run pretty bad, Switch emulation is hit-or-miss and Xenoblade is pretty demanding. You'd be better off emulating the original with Dolphin.
Runs fine. I recommend fiddling with the settings and locking the fps to 30. If you're not sure, just look up the game you want and add steam deck, someone else has probably already made videos of themselves playing it.

From what I know of battery issues, if you see any unusually quick discharging or if it doesn't seem to drain below a certain point before completely bottoming-out, you're fricked.

I'm sure a lot have, but a word like "most" is very loaded. I've had my deck for a week with daily play, and there have been no issues.
This is something that's happened to some people, it's simply the battery sensor being fricked up.
It's an easy fix, drain it to 0 and leave it charging overnight. Most people report that this fixes it for them.

No one's talking about offended. The deck is a first generation device, there are tons of manufacturing issues and plenty of people getting decks that need RMA, but it's not "most".
Most of the people sending their decks in for RMA do so within the first few days for legitimate issues. The people that have been using their decks long term have not reported any issues arising over time. It's basically broken out of the box or not.

My battery health indicator has fluctuated between 100% and 90% since I got my Deck two weeks ago, and now it has settled at 97%. I have no idea whether this is a software or hardware issue or if I should be worried in general, but I'd be very disappointed if the battery actually degraded this quickly in just a few charge cycles. Still getting maybe 2-3 hours in games like Death Stranding DC, Civilization VI, and Overload and up to 4-6 hours with GBA emulation and old PC games like Diablo and HoMM 2.
Part of me wishes i had gotten one, but i know I'd never actually use it since i never use my Switch undocked. I'll have to try my mate's at some point.
