Its pretty good but its pretty rough once you leave act 1 and gets rougher when you get to act 3. Really just needs some more work before it can be actually great.
the EE or DE of this game will be one of the best RPGs of all-time, top 5 even. Assuming they fix most of the jank and maybe retcon some of the bad writing

My RETURNING trident which I have specced entirely into and base my entire build around sometimes decides it does not want to return and I have to spend like 10 minutes trying to look for it. Also the game is just kind of shit at accounting for the players decisions right now, that's my main problem with it.
Not the same guy but i an tell you what BG 1 and 2 did better atmosphere. Actual long and deep writing because they wast fully voiced npc back then. So what you got was minute long conversations and moral dilemmas and the human condition....while talking to a Djinn or an elder god. BG3 is much too cinematic. More of a movie less of a book.
BG1 and 2 also had appropriate quests for their level bands, with 1 being a low-level start with appropriate quests/enemies/etc, and 2 being clearly geared towards mid/high level characters. I still remember in 2 being impressed that the dragon guy at the inn seeking my party out because they were somewhat renowned, as opposed to needing to seek out quests/etc and search out and convince people to hire/trust you like you did in BG1.
BG3 is decent enough, but it's clearlyna story that is more appropriate for mid/high level characters than the low level 1 characters you start as.

I've enjoyed a lot of the game, there are some flaws like Dame Aylid/Isobel but compared to yass queen slay writing, Baldur's gate is significantly better, It is generic fantasy but engaging enough to want to keep playing; lots of people on Ganker will call me out for being a "shill" Plus you can kill almost every character in the game so if you disagree with any of them or dislike them; murder is an option.
BG3 will be praised for years to come for showing people the depth CRPGs are capable of
