>As stated in the instruction booklet, Henry is a calm young man who "never lets his feelings show". Henry is quiet and introverted in personality, emphasized by the fact that he does not speak much and is more of a listener. No mention is made of any friends or family throughout the game, and even his neighbors only know him in passing. Henry also comments on his younger life as being "unsentimental". Henry's confrontation with Walter Sullivan forces him into a situation where he must change and leave the apartment, or die.
He's literally me.
What a boring motherfricker to make the lead of a horror game.
He really is boring to a comical degree, I laughed my ass off during my first playthrough at his responses to shit happening.
Probably not the reaction a survival horror should be eliciting.
Of course he's boring, he's a genuine autist.
perfect for Walter
I got a new controller coming in the mail
honestly cannot wait to play these games
probably spoiled too much for myself but I don't remember anything but small tid bits and some not really any meaningful details
hes a self insert character you're meant to relate to
idk what u would want out of a guy who is stuck inside his apartment by choice until room was haunted
>you're meant to relate to
It would relate to neet shutins with chronic social anxiety for sure. Not sure how that makes him a self insert for me personally though, unless you mean in general, which is what all protagonists are by the nature of storytelling.
hes specifically for the otaku types and shut in losers like me
but you could say in general but that wasn't what I really meant
but isn't it pretty much normal for people who browse this board to be like that?
>but isn't it pretty much normal for people who browse this board to be like that?
It used to be, modern Ganker is full of normalgays from reddit
truth but I doubt there isn't a still quite a bit of people like that still here
probably mostly infesting in old game threads
What the hell...
What... the hell....
What the hell?
Here goes...
Eileen was as big
of an autist as Henry
I know right?
its kind of funny how henry is the only protagonist to not really have any choice in his situation. every other protagonist has some sort of reason to go through the shit they go through but henry just woke up one day and suddenly had to go kill the ghost psychopath haunting his apartment or die
Sometimes when you move into a new place shit gets weird and you have to deal with the previous tenants bullshit
if you don't confront your problems, your problems will confront you.
Boring main character but, the last good Silent Hill game.
Never played this one
Parents loved me
For some reason when other people get impatient, i'm to balme for their spoiledness
Rank the games music.
all S tier but, I do think Cradel of forest suffers from rough jap to English lyrics translation. Still sound good even so.
based resting comfortably enjoyer
for me,it's Toluca prison basement

They don't make them how they used to. The music in these games made it so surreal/visual.
visceral*
Room of Angel is definitely my favorite. Tender Sugar is a close second. Your Rain in third place. Nightmarish Waltz in fourth. The others I don't remember.
Ok loreCHADS I have a question.
Silent Hill 1 is mainly inspired by Jacob's Ladder and to some degree Twin Peaks
Silent Hill 2 The Lost Highway and Blue Velvet
What about Silent Hill 3 and 4?
1 and 3 reminded me of Angel Heart, must be the constant imagery of fans and rusty elevators. 4 I can only think of Rear Window
4 is 100% Rear Window, good call anon
His ridiculous voice acting doesn’t help, lol. But I did love playing 4 recently, truly great game.
Thanks for the answer.
>and 4?
Outside of Already Mentioned Rear Window. Tarsem Singh's The Cell is a MASSIVE inspiration from SH4. Especially about Walter's background and how his fractured mind works

I watched a film called Red Desert and it reminded me of Silent Hill at times
2 34
3 28
5 24
I didn't really like it but still there were some cool moments
Pretty interesting how industrial environments have always been used to portray dread and despair
it's just mid west culture in general
the death of factory jobs pretty much fricked them mentally
I want to frick Henry
Eileen shaving
>Dry shaving
>fully clothed
>on the bed
What the FRICK is wrong with this b***h?
That's what I always think whenever I see this get posted. WHY IS SHE SHAVING ON THE BED???
my logic would be so she could just wrap the hair around the blanket and throw it in the trash
>doesn't even show the armpit
what's the point
>the only time Henry shows any surprise or emotion is on finding 3 bags of catfood on the floor of a pet store
This will never not make me laugh.
post silent hill bangers
Unironically
As much as people have distaste for Licht doing the music for Downpour, this was genuinely fantastic:
The vocals are a bit of an overdone element, but the track shouldn't be discounted because of that
Henry sucks
Villain is terribly corny and has no SH vibe
I can't believe how good most of the setup and ideas were for 4 just for them to fumble a couple of fundamental elements and ruin it. I don't know if SH was too doomed for anyone to see how good what they had was to fight to unfrick its bad elements or what.
I'm playing SH1 and the game is showering me with rifle ammo. I'm starting to think I missed the chance to pick the guns somewhere while running from birds, dogs and monkeys in pitch black darkness.
It's been a while since I've last played SH1 but I remember getting the rifle at the mall where you fight the worm boss.
fricking hell dude I missed it then cause I fell down before I could explore
Do you have a previous save? The final boss becomes piss easy with the rifle
nope, I'm already past the sewer level, I have to find the lock combination to a door and I don't have a map to that part of town, I probably missed it as well kek
But anyway, the shotty will have to do
Little pro tip for any boss in the game, just side strafe in a circle. Running around in a circle is your best move to dodge any attack. Also don't pull the sword.
Real pro tip for all SH games is to change the control scheme so you can strafe fire.
Pretty sure the final boss auto dies if you have no ammo in SH1. Can't remember if it was only for the true end boss or what, though.
Yeah it has to be the true final boss
I feel like Silent Hill Homecoming is a great way to show why most attempts at future Silent Hill games won't work. It's that whole thing where you're trying to emulate the feel of a series that was already emulating something itself, so it lacks the character and inspiration that made each game feel unique. Silent Hill is the way it is because it was westaboo as frick, not because they were trying to do "Silent Hill." Now most teams that come after will try to do what makes "Silent Hill" without the same understanding of the source material, so they just do the surface level bits of the games' core identities and toss in scenes much more lazily lifted from similar American horror movies and literature.
It's why, for as much of a fricking hack he is, Kojima was genuinely the best bet for another Silent Hill game. Not because "la creatividad and his GOD game holy FRICK" or that he has an exceptional grasp of the abstract or surreal or any other idiotic dicksucking, but because you'd be hard pressed to find a bigger fukken movie-otaku westaboo in the game industry these days.
kojima understood the series more than any other western dev did
and it was clear as day light in p.t despite what contrarian morons said it would suck or whatever
it was still the best attempt at reviving the series not to mention kojima knows team silent members
Is 4 worth playing?
I beat 1-3 but never got around to 4 for some reason.
it's the only one left of decent quality and probably the more scary SH games
it's a game you'll either love or hate or possibly even both
I'm personally on the side of love it
I remember playing the first three a few years ago and thought about skipping 4 because everyone always shits on it. Ended up playing it during the pandemic and had a blast, it must have been the feeling of being cooped up like Henry, but it was still a nice ending to the Team Silent era.
