No. Get on the plane we're going to Pokespain so Pikachu can job to a Smoliv.
agreed, end this shit. Focus on another trainer, ranger, whatever.
stop acting white.
we don't care about trAsh
>shit the bed in 4 regions (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Unova)
>do decent but still amateur relative to champions (Sinnoh, Kalos)
>beat a league in a slightly less competitive region (Alola)
>suddenly able to topple champions with moronic on-the-fly plays (Galar)
Nah, the fights themselves showcase his Gary Stu nature very well. Every idea he comes up with works, he has unique mechanics that only work for him, and his Pokemon are always allowed to take way more hits than the opponent.
>Z-move can't be dodged, absorbed, or countered
>Lucario can think about its friends to create a giant aura sphere capable of destroying GMax in one hit
He's a Gary Stu, and you're an adult child with no future.
You're the one who watched a 2000 episode anime to insult a fictional ten year old.
You’re The Who lives through said 10 year old just to pretend to pork females because apparently you peaked at elementary school.
Ash spent almost all those episode competing in, and not winning, regional little leagues where all the actually best trainers in those regions weren't participating, and were also clearly shown to be on a level way way above both Ash and all the other participants in those leagues. Then he suddenly magically became world champion overnight and started beating all these established champions he was clearly said to not be anywhere near in terms of strength. It's batshit insane writing and absolutely being a Gary Stu.
It's awful writing, but I wouldn't say it's Ash being a Gary Stu. OP is right that 2000 episodes of training and getting knocked on your ass then getting right back up again is way more than enough to justify a hero reaching the height of his strength and prestige. But the writers did a shitty job of showing that gradual improvement.
I get the sense that that's really just a symptom of the show's format though. I think a lot of people in the West fall into the trap of comparing the Pokemon anime with shounen fighting series like Dragonball or YYH, when it's really more like Doraemon or Case Closed. Ash becoming a Pokemon Master is as much of a "goal" as Conan becoming an adult again, and the fact that he's on the verge of getting there is, in my opinion, solely the result of the writers thinking about retiring the character.
>OP is right that 2000 episodes of training and getting knocked on your ass then getting right back up again is way more than enough to justify a hero reaching the height of his strength and prestige
It really isn't when 1900 of those episodes were about him gradually working his way from "top 16 in a minor regional league" to "finalist in a minor regional league" and then he's suddenly world champion 100 episodes later. That's the problem people have with it, Ash has been slowly and steadily improving over all these years, then he suddenly gains an absolutely absurd power boost out of nowhere for absolutely no reason.
Neither you nor OP seem to have any idea what level he was actually shown to be on in the past.
>Moot avatar
>10 when he started
>Still 10
He's been training for a few months and has already conquered 7+ regions and sweeps champions
Gary Stu
>that one interview that implied that the entire anime takes place over one year
Man, the shit they must have been smoking.
Maybe a year is like thousands of days in the pokemon universe
unless the english translation is wrong there was an episode where ash went to a pokemon school in the first season and was asked how long he had been traveling and he said 3 months
How do you have that many adventures in 3 months even one after the other. I wouldn't be surprised if we've seen these characters sleep/pass the night more than the number of days in that span by far.
i hate it here
Nah JK I love it here!
normal /vp/ day
He's competing and winning with a bunch of Pokemon he just recently caught. His Lucario grew faster than any other hatched Pokemon in the show.
I guess if you want to be technical about it, it's not Ash that's the problem, it's his current team (sans Pikachu I guess) that are the Mary Sues.
the fact that he's only using his current team for this arc is mind numbing. not even any of his alola mons are getting used, when they're the ones who made him into a champion in the first place.
Yeah, this is the problem. Even with all the callbacks, the tournament doesn't feel like a culmination of Ash's journey. It looks more like he just stumbled onto a team of unusually strong Pokemon that make his past teams look like failures.
Functionally, it's like if the anime just gave Ash a bunch of legendaries for him to sweep the tournament Tobias style.
>It looks more like he just stumbled onto a team of unusually strong Pokemon that make his past teams look like failures.
Aside from the Alola team, his past teams ARE failures, anon. His current team's strength makes sense since most of them started off at later stages and the ons that didn't got strong quickly because this tournament of 10,000 of the strongest trainers around had more of a challenge to give than wandering around in a baby tier badge run. It's no different from how you power level Pokemon in the games via harsher conditions.
I swear, all this whining just comes down to "I wanted it MY way that feeds MY nostalgia!" and nothing more. You people act like it wouldn't be dumb writing for Ash's previous Pokemon who all lost regional tournaments to suddenly come back and be World Tournament tier out of nowhere. Not everything is about callbacks and nostalgia and ths series never made it the main selling point, but hardly any of you actually watch it so you wouldn't know that.
Ash getting his current team to the level that they are was properly shown over the past three years and is far better than pondering to old fogeys in the minority circlejerk that just want to scream "I KNOW WHAT THAT IS" all day. Frick your reserves and frick you.
Bunch of whiny old kids, I swear.
>His current team's strength makes sense since most of them started off at later stages
Oh yeah, you mean like the Gengar which was such a massive shitter that his OG trainer abandoned him?
Besides, If being "caught fully evolved" was enough reason to justify a Pokemon being Champion level then there's over a dozen of Pokemon Ash already owns that fit that category. Why aren't they Champion level too then? I'm using your own logic here, you know?
>and the ons that didn't got strong quickly because this tournament of 10,000 of the strongest trainers around had more of a challenge to give than wandering around in a baby tier badge run. It's no different from how you power level Pokemon in the games via harsher conditions.
By using your own logic then there was no reason to not use the reserves. They would have grown through the PWC battles just like you say is the reason why the PM strong is so moronic strong.
>You people act like it wouldn't be dumb writing for Ash's previous Pokemon who all lost regional tournaments to suddenly come back and be World Tournament tier out of nowhere.
Makes more sense than seeing the Pokemon whose amount of on-screen battles you can count with one hand. It's bad when the reserves would be Champion-tier out of nowhere according to you but it's okay when the PM team does it? Don't be an hypocrite.
>Not everything is about callbacks and nostalgia and ths series never made it the main selling point, but hardly any of you actually watch it so you wouldn't know that.
Except one of Journeys main points has literally been callbacks and nostalgia. Or are you acting like all those characters cameos and returns do not exist? Or do they not magically count according to you?
>Ash getting his current team to the level that they are was properly shown over the past three years
Fricking lmao.
I dare you to name FIVE times Ash current team was shown training outside of Lucario.
Dracovish went and defeated a Champion's Pokemon on it's literally first battle ever.
You are completely full of bullshit and you know it. have a nice day moronic brainless contrarian.
I hope some day an autistic anon will watch the entire series while keeping track of how many day and night cycles there are to find the minimum amount of days that passed since ash started his journey
I'm sure someone will get on that after they do the same thing for Bart Simpson or South Park to find out why all of them are still in the 4th grade.
iirc Game theory youtuber did that
Still wouldn't give accurate count since the episodes often skip unknown amounts of between episodes
*amounts of time
People hated Ash losing all the time because it was always stupid, nonsensical, wienerblocked by executives. All to mantain the statuos quo just because.
People are now hating Ash winning because it feels like a completely kneejerk reaction to the Kalos Disaster. Not because he's winning, it's because he's winning just because just like he used to lose just because.
Because he went from homosexual who couldn't win a regional League even with the super duper special snowflake frog and now he's defeating Elite 4 and Champion with a team whose non-fighting appearances and inter-team interactions you can count with one single hand and still have fingers remaining when common sense and logic dictates that how this season is that season that's up the ass with fanservice and callbacks, bringing back characters like crazy, feels like the culmination of everything until now they also somehow decided it to not use all of his old Pokemon and all of his old aces and all the old fan favorites.
And then there's the homosexual of Leon who trounces other Champions with just half his team but we're also supposed to believe that the Ash who could BARELY defeat Steven and Cynthia is also capable of defeating the super unbeatable invincible undefeated OPM-tier overpowered except played completely straight is capable of defeating him.
The power scaling went completely out of the window. That's why people are shitting on Ash and PM as a whole right now.
Wow it's almost like people dislike shit writing first and foremost or something!
I would love to see a shred of evidence that employees actually walked out due to XYZ’s ending. It seems like a /vp/ meme that’s gone on way too long, he loses in the finals in XY, beats a regional champion in SM, and approaches the pinnacle of regional champion in JN. What doesn’t make sense?
A huge portion of writers that had been around since Kanto left after XY, then most of their SM replacements left after SM, making the current series written mostly by newbies that have worked on Pokemon for at most two years.
>he loses in the finals in XY, beats a regional champion in SM, and approaches the pinnacle of regional champion in JN.
No, he lost the finals of a big regional tournament full of skilled trainers in XY, then he won a minor tournament where like only 4 of the entrants were skilled enough they could've qualified for a league in a region where you actually need to prove yourself to be allowed to participate. Then he went on to fighting equally with the WORLD champion.
It's like losing the finals of your fifth grade boxing tournament, then going off and beating up all the first graders, then punching out Mike Tyson the day after. Absolutely nothing about any of this makes sense. Ash shouldn't even logically be at Elite Four level after SM, yet now he's beating not only champions, but the champion said the be the strongest in the world. It's completely fricked writing.
It's even worse because he picked up a completely new team that, frankly, he shouldn't even have a clue about how they operate.
This could've been made way more acceptable if he had gone back to the Pokemon he knew were strong from his previous journeys and pick the best ones to practice with. Still stupid, but at least every single one of them had faced a league prior, and were skilled fighters that needed refining.
What would Ash's all-star team be that would make these recent wins actually feel deserved? Pikachu, Charizard, and Greninja are obvious but who else?
>I would love to see a shred of evidence that employees actually walked out due to XYZ’s ending.
homie just go and look at the staff listing between XY and SM.
A shitton of the oldgays who had been there since the beginning of the series walked out after XY ended.
A lot of people even went on Twitter to complain about how Ash lost that time including fricking Rica.
You clearly weren't here when the whole clusterfrick was going on.
>he loses in the finals in XY,
And people are seething and malding to this day about that for reasons I needn't re-state.
>beats a regional champion in SM,
People are unsatisfied with the Alola League because it was a borderline joke League where half of the fights were literal gag battles and you can count with one hand the amount of trainers in the whole entire tournament that had more than 2 Pokemon.
>beats a regional champion in SM
Kukui is not and has never been a Champion. And that battle was outside of the League anyways.
>and approaches the pinnacle of regional champion in JN.
Read my post again.
>What doesn’t make sense?
What part of "execution matters" do you not understand?
Frick meant to quote
Pikachu
Charizard
Sceptile
Infernape
Greninja
The last slot is a doozy.
Snorlax is a given. One if not his most consistent Pokemon even if was never an "Ace".
Gible was always mentioned to have a frickton of potential and mastered Draco Meteor super quick.
Krookodile is the closest of an Ace there was during BW.
Lycanroc was the "Ace" during SM but I'd put it on the same category Krookodile is at.
>Ash is the literal opposite of a Gary
Yup
You know Gary's really softened up when he sends out Hatterene
They should've had Ash win the league in gen 4 and retired his role as mc in favor of the gen 5 protag. People complain about him losing the league in XY but he already overstayed his welcome way before then.
Like 5% of Ash's strength is down to his Training. 20% is leaving his Pokémon with more competent characters to take care of them and 70% is whatever he catches is already godly for some raisin.
>Ash is the literal opposite of a Gary Stu because he's been training for like 2000 episodes
So just like everyone else in the anime?
I’m surprised people take the show this seriously. At the end of the day, it’s just one big advertisement for pencil cases and trading cards. Ash winning or losing won’t matter because in 12 episodes he’ll be starry eyed over a Lechonk and they’ll spend 22 minutes helping it find its family.
It's because Ash has always been a loser and we haven't exactly seen him progress from the "decent but not great" trainer to the best in the world satisfyingly this season.
Leon literally changed the rules just so Ash can use all three gimmicks. That is clear example of what a Gary Stu is.
He's number 1 in the world with a lot of fame and influence, so if course his requests would be given special consideration. Plus its the final match and having all three gimmicks would only draw more viewership as a big finale so it would also be a smart move to allow it.
I didn't think it was a "Gary Stu" issue.
I just thought it was weird that we went from Ash losing in XYZ, in a fight that wouldn't have made him Champion level even if he won, to Ash winning in a less competitive setting, to all the sudden beating this all-stars best-of-the-best champion tournament.
I also kind of thought it was weird how much they wanked Leon, cause in the games I never got the idea that he was the best in the whole world and it even felt like there were other trainers above him in Sword and Shield.
He needs to retire for sure but the "Ash has been training for XXX centuries!!! his pikachu level 1000000!!" arguments falls apart when Ash is the most inconsistent character in his own anime in terms of both personality and skill. People who have watched previous seasons of the ashnime tend to have issues with this new Ash because he'll magically one-shot or 2HKO enemy teams while tanking countless direct and often super-effective hits. It just comes off as a rushed, effortless send-off for what is expected to be the battle climax of his perpetually undefined "Pokemon Master" dream. It feels like even more of a joke when the whole season tried to show off its callbacks to previous seasons, but now Ash is winning with pokemon he caught/hatched in the span of a few months at most rather than using his previous team members. It goes to show some battle prodigy Paldean preschooler could mop the floor with Ash and it would be perfectly consistent with the powerscaling they've set up to this point.
what makes you think that the show revolves around people who have been watching for 25 years, or people who pay too much attention to asshat poketubers?
