Gen 4 & 5. After that, it shits the bed.
try 2nd gen gays you can keep copy and paste the same trash with a little dlc changes and some dialogue changes and expect to be good.

This, 2 was the beginning of the end. 3 killed it dead. Now we have Palworld to thank for saving the genre.

A large portion of pokemon are utterly useless because their typing is special but their stats are physical or vice versa. Any gen before the physical/special split is objectively dogshit
>I’m terrible at the game and have a poor understanding of the mechanics so that means the Pokemon were useless
Unovazoomers are fricking pathetic.
Individual skill isn't going to make gen 1 mechanics less nonsensical. Just admit they had no clue what they were don't with that gen, it was nothing more than a test run.
>it’s nonsensical because I didn’t grow up with it
It's nonsensical because it's a dogshit system that makes no sense, nostalgiagay
It is simple and fun, without the clutter of future games.
I understand the appeal of it, but it's kind of like the appeal of Melee, it's objectively janky and that's exactly what people like about it. That's fine, but just don't pretend like it's not a fricking mess.
uh, newflash, pokemon is about the worst game to choose to be autistic about the meta over. every pokemon game ever made has dogshit balance.
I think about the overall experience.
A game that has mechanics sorted out is one that is bound to stagnate, instead one that is simple gives an opportunity to the player to imagine what the developers could do in a future game! You can discuss your ideas with friends or a community, you can even create your own iteration of that simple game!
A game that is complicated to me is an inhuman and insurmountable wall that leaves me without imagination, human connections and no sense of control.
You are definitely a paedophile. Imagine being that obsessed over a game made for children
Life is about living.
There are many instruments we can use to learn about our world, even pokemon games.
<3 <3 <3
It's fine. Just play it. You put Brick Break on your Crawdaunt instead of Waterfall. It's just a different flavor of gameplay. Stop overreacting.
That's one of gen 1's most fun mechanics.
>Not basing Pokemon taste purely off aesthetics

4, followed closely behind by 3 and 5 in that order.
3 but 4 is still good everything after was just worse and worse
original red/green beta build
Gen 4's combo with Platinum and HGSS is pretty strong, I think 9 with PLA, BDSP, and SV is underrated as well.
by 3ds they should have made pokemon coliseum tier battle animations with more open world. with more story and things to do.
gen 7
did you forget about all of the unskippable cutscenes?
all Pokemon have unskipable cutscenes
thats when the girls peaked
When did they peak? Gen 2.
Preach. Improved nearly everything from gen 1, added good mons, doubled the map size. Also best music in the series, fight me
Agreed, the hype was real and it delivered. Full color, detailed sprites, new Pokemon, two new types, visiting Kanto...I really wanted to like gen 3. But the whole interface fell clunky, the gba graphical power underutilized in the overworld and the movements...add the beauty contests, attributes, and the lack of overall heart...it seemed more formulaic, didn't feel as invested in the experience like the first two...like they were testing a generic template that will work from that point on to continue churning games. I didn't feel like playing anything further than 3
there where various hit or miss
and it all depends on specific tastes
1999. You missed it. Since then, we've had a few big highs. HGSS were a good era for enthusiasts at the time. We got a real return to form with ORAS half way through gen 6 after a pretty rough couple gens. Of course the big summer of 2016 when everyone was out playing Go, and the interface and systems were still simple and comparable to the gen 1 games. Crazy how the most significant high points trend from revisiting the old games.

The first because it had clear rules, well thought pokemon and interesting situations.
There was a clarity that is not present in future games.
I should add that my favorite pokemon is yellow, because it even has stereo sound!
Currently playing violet and got Urshifu, noticing familiar Baji stance.
Is Wicked Blow supposed to be Ding Xin Zhou?
Gen 2.
Most people will be too blinded by nostalgia of whichever game they played first to accept this objective truth.
Gold Silver with 2 regions, and they never too that
1 or 2. After that it just stagnated horribly.
at firered and leafgreen
P games peaked in P world
Gen 1 with Ivysaur
That's not Nidoking
both are 10/10 pokemon
You're a 10/10 Pokemon
no u :3
The craze when gen 1 came out as a kid in incomparable to any other gens.
Gen 5 was the last time the games had a ton of stuff to do aside from the competitive battling. I guess Gen 4 was the peak because only nostalgia blind morons think Gen 1 or 2 were somehow good mechanically.
> Gen 5 was the last time the games had a ton of stuff to do aside from the competitive battling
How do I plant berries and pet my pokemon and customize my character in gen 5?
funny how no one answers this while unovagays continue to shill their shitty games and pretend they’re good
DPP and HGSS is the last time gamefreak really gave a shit.
relative to the technology? 2
my own personal tastes? 4
Name a more kino moment in any Pokemon game including spinoffs
>CPU has 6 pokeballs
NANI?
Zinnia's battle in ORAS and then going to space to fight Deoyxs
the music were so hard
i'm surprised RED didn't find his mom's gun and blow his fricking brains out after this
>he picked Plebmander
If you didn’t pick the fire dragon you’re a gay, sorry I don’t make the rules that’s just what all the kids at school told me
I think it's kinda gay that Red has all 3 starters.
exploring emerald's battle frontier. red is pretty lame when you understand what x items do
All the games are piss easy, not an argument.
Gens 3 and 4. I don't even recognize any Pokémon beyond Gen 5
1.
Not just a genwunner take here, Pokemon was mindblowing for a Game Boy title, it was ahead of its time. Every game since has felt a little behind or worse.
Imagine if Pokemon kept being innovators all this time, kept putting that money to good use. It'd be incredible.
Monster Designs: 1

Gameplay mechanics: 5
Monster Designs: 1
Graphics: 6 (ORAS)
Aesthetics: 2
Single-player campaign: 5 (BW2)
Gameplay mechanics: 7
Agree with this but there's days where I'd put 3 over 2 in single player campaign. Loved all the water and sense of mystery. I also find 4 quite good in aesthetics but I wouldn't put it at the top, just thought it deserved a mention.
Anything before Gen 6 that’s for sure.
In Pal gen
3 in terms of SOVL
5 in terms of balancing and overall content
4 is an acceptable middle ground
anything older is too rough, anything newer is babby garbage
>no day/night cycle
>sovl
Buying Ruby as a kid and seeing the feature regression with such a massive disappointment you have no idea
I must be the only person in the world that didn't care about the day/night cycle not being in 3 at all
Nobody really cared at the time. It's manchildren complaining in retrospect.
Don't speak for what I felt as a child you fricking homosexual Black person.
You must be over 18 years old to post here.
The frick are you talking about moron. It definitely was a big issue, not to mention it's directly tied to another issue (having like 200 unobtainable pokemon for no reason, night time would be perfect to distribute more of them). Though of course the biggest issue for me back then was no going back to johto+kanto
The "retrospect" shit applies much more to the praise for physical/special split. Literally no child would ever tell the difference.
day/night is a shitty overrated as frick feature.
>YAAAAY THE ENTIRE STORY NONSENSICALLY TAKES PLACE AT NIGHT TIME BECAUSE I ONLY HAVE TIME TO PLAY THE GAME AFTER WORK AND I HAVE TO POINTLESSLY WAIT 8 HOURS TO ENCOUNTER LEDYBA THIS MAKES THE GAME BETTER SOMEHOW
this is how I feel about all real life time synchronous clocks in vidya. It's a really shitty mechanic especially as you get older
You tell me.
>They brought back fat pikachu
And you say the new gens are completely soulless.
So it peaked at gen 6
one could say at best that it plateaued, if you had such terrible taste that is
Your image literally shows it peaked at gen 6.
> Gen 6 had like fifteen monsters in each patch of grass
It doesn’t, gen 6 is just smart about its distribution instead of being poorly designed like gen 4 and throwing geodude and zubat onto half the maps and making random encounters a pointless chore.
Gen 2 style with Gen1's fat could have been perfect
gen5’s was lifted from platinum
I-V are all very nice with their own good points, VI-VII are fugly and devoid of personality, VIII-IX is okay I guess, there's less need to express personality in 1 sprite when it's a 3D model so I dunno.
yeah
The novelty wore off after gen 2. Every game after that just felt like more of the same and capitalizing purely off the IP/franchise's popularity. By that point, literally just selling Pokemon merchandise generates more revenue than Pokemon game sales.
>The novelty wore off after gen 2. Every game after that just felt like more of the same and capitalizing purely off the IP/franchise's popularity.
No child ever thought this.
Pokemon clover
Gen 1: Pocket Monsters
Gen 2: Baby Monsters
Gen 3: furry monsters
Gen 4: more furry monsters
Gen 5: Gen 1 monsters but lamer
Gen 6: more more furry monsters
Gen 7: more more more furry monsters
Gen 8: CHARIZARD FROM KANTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Gen 9: more more more more furry monsters
I had the most fond memories of Gen 4. HGSS specifically. Physical/Special split was the most gamechanging mechanic in the series. Gen 5 was an attempted reboot, but good.
Gen 6 and on feels like theme parks rather than regions. I like to have all monsters available in one game, but only in post game or transfer only. Gen 6 had like fifteen monsters in each patch of grass, cave and water source. It also discouraged you from using the new monsters in favor of using what you know is good. And that's if you could find the new ones, because you might have to do 10 encounters just to see one.
Gold & Silver.
4 is where I personally lost interest.
It peaked at Palworld.
3 as a whole, and for multiplayer/postgame
5 for the core adventure
Games wise, probably Gen 5. We've had bits and pieces of 'peak-ish' stuff in the games since then, but none of them have managed to be consistently high quality since Black2/White2.
As a franchise, it definitely peaked around Gen 1-2. A lot of the momentum from the initial Pokemania years died off between Gen 2 and Gen 3.
9
Gen 5, the moment the series hit 3DS it became shit.
Gen 2.
Best gameboy game was the card game tho.
Gen 3 without a doubt, Gen 4 was too slow and Gen 5 had too many dumb designs.
Gen II was the last Gen that felt like a direct upgrade. While I did like Gen III Gen IV was the beginning of the end.
Gen 4 and it's not even close. It had Platinum, HGSS, the physical/special split, one of the least shit seasons of the anime (still pretty shit though), Explorers of Sky (the best Pokemon game), Ranger 2 & 3, Rumble, and a non cancerous competitive meta. It also gave a bunch of useless shitmons evolutions.
>it had [bad thing], HGSS, [bad thing]
gen 3 had the best mainline games but gen 4 had the best spinoffs which mog the mainline games
inb4 much p/s split, pressing stab to win is boring and neutered interesting builds into nothing but uninspired sweeper/ tank sets
Gen X. Gen Z was when it really went downhill.
Nah. It pretty clearly went downhill with Gen B.
4. More specifically HGSS is where the franchise peaked. I actually thought BW2 was pretty decent as well, if Gen 6 were a blend of HGSS and BW2 it could have been godly.
