Nope. I played it regularly between 2002 and 2010 and occasionally after that, and everybody who isn't a moron can agree that the peak of the game was 2006ish, prior to the release of Skillcapes. Of course the G.E was the biggest coffin nail but I blame skillcapes for refocusing the point of skilling from broadly leveling your character while achieving in-game goals, to autistically maximising xp/hr in order to finish a singular obnoxious grind for a graphical boast. From then, the game only became about becoming more and more effecient while requiring less and less interactivity

You're killing all the gods now so you can go back to "no gods" Runescape

          Anonymous

they decided to put the gods back in their cage, and you dont actually kill zammy, just forcibly succ him back to the demon hell planet and then forcibly evict the rest of the gods from the planet since Guthix's edicts are now back in effect.

Thank god. Too bad the next 5 years of quests are all just gonna be proselytes for each of the gods trying to re-enact whatever plans they had before.

Yes, especially if you play ironman or just disregard the MTX. Dozens of bosses with actual mechanics and difficulty beyond just prayer flicking and walking.

I think it was around early 2010. There were some bad changes of course but the good updates were still really good. Around 2011 is when the update quality and quantity really started dropping off. I played up until around 2014 when the updates had slowed hard and the bullshit had piled up so badly I couldn’t stand it anymore.

It was before the first wave of graphical rewords, so sometime in 2005. You can tell it was when they started to lose sight of what made the game soulful and unique. Look at how the graphics went from low-res pseudo-realism textures to solid-colored objects. They also started to make the game less focused on grinding which is another thing that made it stand out from the rest. When grinding, you had no choice but to socialize during it.

RotM was a big disappointment for me. I hated that the Temple Knights and the Zarosians were basically straightforward good guys. And I hate how your two new allies and Lucian were just anticlimactically killed off at the end.

Depends, either around 2005 or 2019. Back in 2005 there was no min maxing or people looking up the most efficient way of doing things and shit like getting your first mithril/rune set felt special. the newer version is kind of soulless but if you want to play just for the sake of playing and don't care about "muh soul" then its probably better more recently

      Anonymous

There were minmaxxers but it just wasn't the culture of the game. Even back in the day we had guide sites like Sal's Realm but it was way different because you could just play the game to have fun and do what you want. Now with all the clients and trackers it there's almost a pressure to be as efficient as possible. The economy is also fricked and maybe it's because I'm stuck in the past but the game feels bloated nowadays. Raids and shit like that just don't feel right in RuneScape imo. Game is too clunky for bossing to be fun.

OSRS is so weird, it has the 2007 RS stuff which is great but then you have modern shit like raids bolted on that completely conflicts with the old design.

this is going to sound weird but i miss when runescape made you put up with bullshit to get levels. in old school the most optimal methods are afk, playing minigames (or "skilling" "bosses"), or buying a shit ton of stuff from the GE

RS3 is MTX-riddled garbage, it should be fully f2p with how much money they expect you to spend on keys and daily buffs. You can't even see your bank value without fricking paying for it.
RS3 drones are almost Star Citizen cultists at this point.

Zoomer here, didn't play it back in the day but learning ToB with budget setup after 1200 hours of playtime was so much fun that it's one of my favorite gaming experiences. OSRS needs more genuine challenges like this, because the gameplay can be insanely fun and deep. I can't imagine anything from vack innthe day beating this. Looking forward to Inferno

2011ish. At that point we had ancient curses and extreme potions, BIS was still bandos/armadyl/ahrim and Jagex was making high level skilling updates and quests finally. Free trade even came back.
Nex's release was the start of the downfall that led towards EOC.
