>t. seething boomer
you will never be young again
Too much convenience turns a multiplayer game into a singleplayer one.
>before duel arena*
Whenever you first played it
2011, after they brought back the wilderness but before they destroyed the game with EOC
real answer ITT
>9.8b stack
Sure, anon.
Nope. I played it regularly between 2002 and 2010 and occasionally after that, and everybody who isn't a moron can agree that the peak of the game was 2006ish, prior to the release of Skillcapes. Of course the G.E was the biggest coffin nail but I blame skillcapes for refocusing the point of skilling from broadly leveling your character while achieving in-game goals, to autistically maximising xp/hr in order to finish a singular obnoxious grind for a graphical boast. From then, the game only became about becoming more and more effecient while requiring less and less interactivity
>graphical boast
It's not just that. They have great stats and a few even have good QoL perks
>few even have good QoL perks
those came much, much later
After God Wars, before Summoning
Recipe for Disaster
Anything before Hunter
about 2006-2008 when people were actively playing minigames
>tfw you will never play trouble brewing, stealing creation or castle wars at their peak again
Probably way back before the 3D update released. It all went downhill then.

Player owned houses
2011
If your answer isn't something like 200x then you're too young to use this site.
Is rs3 better at this point?
Last I heard RS3 made a raid where you fight fricking Zamorak so I don’t think it has gotten any less moronic.
You're killing all the gods now so you can go back to "no gods" Runescape
Thank god. Too bad the next 5 years of quests are all just gonna be proselytes for each of the gods trying to re-enact whatever plans they had before.
they decided to put the gods back in their cage, and you dont actually kill zammy, just forcibly succ him back to the demon hell planet and then forcibly evict the rest of the gods from the planet since Guthix's edicts are now back in effect.
Yes, especially if you play ironman or just disregard the MTX. Dozens of bosses with actual mechanics and difficulty beyond just prayer flicking and walking.
I think it was around early 2010. There were some bad changes of course but the good updates were still really good. Around 2011 is when the update quality and quantity really started dropping off. I played up until around 2014 when the updates had slowed hard and the bullshit had piled up so badly I couldn’t stand it anymore.
2006, there's no specific reason for that, I just remember that being the last time I had fun with it.
>run escape
who thought this was a good name for a game? literally just sounds like some pussy shit, like "oh no i can't win i have to run awayyyyyy"
unironically when there was a trade limit
Found it.
I’ve played Runescape for over 16 years and still have never done the eagle’s peak quest
Funnily enough, the map actually peaks just as high as that in a ton of different places. Anywhere pure white on this image is max height.
It was before the first wave of graphical rewords, so sometime in 2005. You can tell it was when they started to lose sight of what made the game soulful and unique. Look at how the graphics went from low-res pseudo-realism textures to solid-colored objects. They also started to make the game less focused on grinding which is another thing that made it stand out from the rest. When grinding, you had no choice but to socialize during it.
I just started again, just about to do Dragon Slayer 1. Enjoying it so far
Once you reach the mid-late game grind, you'll find out why everyone who still plays this game hates it, but it might be too late by then.
Ritual of the Mahjarrat I'd say
RotM was a big disappointment for me. I hated that the Temple Knights and the Zarosians were basically straightforward good guys. And I hate how your two new allies and Lucian were just anticlimactically killed off at the end.
I agree, WGS was the absolute peak and it has never gotten better
pre GWD 2007
Depends, either around 2005 or 2019. Back in 2005 there was no min maxing or people looking up the most efficient way of doing things and shit like getting your first mithril/rune set felt special. the newer version is kind of soulless but if you want to play just for the sake of playing and don't care about "muh soul" then its probably better more recently
There were minmaxxers but it just wasn't the culture of the game. Even back in the day we had guide sites like Sal's Realm but it was way different because you could just play the game to have fun and do what you want. Now with all the clients and trackers it there's almost a pressure to be as efficient as possible. The economy is also fricked and maybe it's because I'm stuck in the past but the game feels bloated nowadays. Raids and shit like that just don't feel right in RuneScape imo. Game is too clunky for bossing to be fun.
back then everyone playing the game was a child and now everyone playing the game is an adult perma-child.
Osrs before raid cancer
from release of osrs to ~2018 before ToB
2011
if you know, you know
Never they can't even bounty hunter l, if flimjex had it there way they'd delete the wilderness just like they did back then
OSRS is so weird, it has the 2007 RS stuff which is great but then you have modern shit like raids bolted on that completely conflicts with the old design.
this is going to sound weird but i miss when runescape made you put up with bullshit to get levels. in old school the most optimal methods are afk, playing minigames (or "skilling" "bosses"), or buying a shit ton of stuff from the GE
The only reason OS exists is because of some super salty 30+ year olds about EOC.
EOC was shit and the piano hotkey bullshit is still rubbish
they should have just done the engine update to fix the tick manipulation bugs and make the game look nicer, but without giving it a completely different combat system
OS exists for reddit trannies and no one else
It was a combination of EoC, P2W spins with a cash shop and a complete bungling of the lore with garbage additions like World Wakes and the 6th age
2011 with HD update, return of wildy and free trade, and all the best quests that don't exist in 07scape
2009
2010-12
Pre EOC, but we had the HD graphics update.
I liked Dungeoneering
Why is the map unfinished?
06/06/06
It was a unique era and not many were lucky enough to live it, I wonder about my old RS friends and wonder how their doing these days, I miss the conversations with 30 people piled on each other at the fishing spots in catherby, I just want to go back bro's.
After they added the GE.
It hasn't yet. RS3 is better than it's ever been while OSRS is stagnant
is RS3 actually better? thought about picking it back up
RS3 has been releasing boss after boss after quest after boss consistently this last year.
OSRS hasn't done shit
No, people who still play RS3 are mindbroken.
It's not, the RS3 playerbase only sticks with it due to sunk cost fallacy
RS3 respects your time at the cost of your sanity
OSRS respects your sanity at the cost of your time
RS3 is MTX-riddled garbage, it should be fully f2p with how much money they expect you to spend on keys and daily buffs. You can't even see your bank value without fricking paying for it.
RS3 drones are almost Star Citizen cultists at this point.
They made the wealth evaluator free last year. And ironmen can't buy any keys or daily buffs.
Zoomer here, didn't play it back in the day but learning ToB with budget setup after 1200 hours of playtime was so much fun that it's one of my favorite gaming experiences. OSRS needs more genuine challenges like this, because the gameplay can be insanely fun and deep. I can't imagine anything from vack innthe day beating this. Looking forward to Inferno
frick the new minigame sucks ass, and you're forced to play it if you want better runes from runecrafting
before Evolution combat
GE was dying but the community was still alive. Graphcis were getting too detailed but it was still ok. Combat was inflated but not moronic EoC 3500 DAMAGE ZOMG
2011ish. At that point we had ancient curses and extreme potions, BIS was still bandos/armadyl/ahrim and Jagex was making high level skilling updates and quests finally. Free trade even came back.
Nex's release was the start of the downfall that led towards EOC.
