I use whichever voice actors worked with the game director. To do otherwise is to disrespect the media of both video games and voice acting. If it's a Japanese game, and not one of Hideo Kojima's, then that's the Japanese voices.
There literally only 2 reasons you'd defend/accept rewrites in localization:
1) You think the original work has no merit and is nothing more than moronic shit slop for dumbasses, you can do better than the original writers. They created this worthless slop, after all.
2) You think the western target audience is too moronic/xenophobic/Black personish about anything related to a foreign culture so you need to appease them. A rice ball? That's too weird, change it to a jelly doughnut.
The only reason localizers get away with it is because Japanese people don't give a frick about westerners. If they did, they'd actually bother getting good translators and localizers immersed in their culture. If anything, the Japanese are the one to blame for shit localization, and thus, they deserve to have their works seen as moronic slop overseas. They have the money that feeds localizers, yet they still choose to let them frick it all up.
