I like Chris but he clearly hates the shit out of Obsidian and would much rather to work in Bethesda. Hence his posts about how shit and inferior to FO3 New Vegas was.

He did post stuff like that at RPGCodex. How Bethesda games allow you to make-believe your own story and how "I got engaged by a randomly spawned gang of generic raiders and survived by hiding in a bombed-out supermarked" is superior emergent storytelling and dunks on crusty old quest design. He really fricking hates Obsidian.

I'm hoping avellone gets a shot at the next fallout, even after being metooed

even if "MUH BEAR AND BULL" was shit it still btfo's emil's writing

I think you can give a monkey a bunch of colored tokens with various plot points and it will make a better plot than Emil.

          >how "I got engaged by a randomly spawned gang of generic raiders and survived by hiding in a bombed-out supermarked" is superior emergent storytelling
I really hope he doesn't believe that because New Vegas is literally the king of emergent storytelling. The combination of having a starting point that you can follow the lead on or re-invent yourself, the fact that the map starts out limited and opens up as you progress, the fact that sidequests and factions emerge immediately allowing you to decide what kind of person you're going to be, and that all of this is brought to the player through open world exploration gives you the sense that you are writing the story of your character in the world more than any other game I'd ever played.

You can dig up his RPGCodex posts, he was a pretty prolific poster when the great MCA-Obsidian split happened. He never said something like "FNV bad", of course, but he always said something like "we couldn't reach FO3 quality" or something, which is a bit disingenuous since FNV wasn't his pet project and he wasn't even Lead on it.

I'd bet $10,000 that during the development and after the release of New Vegas, Obsidian fricking HATED Bethesda. They probably had a picture of Todd up with a target on it and threw darts at it because their experience making the game was such a shitshow because of Bethesda. Not to mention all of the people who lambasted them, said the game sucked, etc etc. It was probably stressful as frick.

Even if the allegation isn't true, the dude is too hot to hire and isn't worth it in the grand scheme of things when making a billion-dollar game. If anything he lost his touch if Dying Light 2 is anything to go by.

Basically nothing he wrote for Dying Light 2 actually made it into the game other than the initial faction concepts.

I find that harder to believe when the game came a year after the allegations. Either he didn't write anything or they made him sign an NDA to not claim he wrote the story.

It was 2 years and apparently he only did drafts for the game, which went through several rewrites when they disagreed with his vision and wanted to write it internally. Believable when the "finished" product was pretty clearly stitched together from whatever they had from the various rewrites it went through, hell the fricking E3 demo somehow ended up as the final mission of the game.

5% according to twitter, 20% according to Elon Musk. They ban 1 million bot accounts per day.
I'm guessing the number is closer to 20% as twitter refused to show Elon the data despite him saying it was part of the deal.

actually it's the other way around. It's a throwaway factoid that most NV-stans know about and will inject into the conversation but it's never really a major point of contention. Here is what's actually going on.
      >New Vegas has real factions, more quests and higher content density than FO3, a story without major plotholes, an introduction that doesn't drag on forever, near infinite replayability, stats affect gameplay and storytelling like in a real RPG, numerous interesting companions, decisions in quests with consequences that are both immediate and long-reaching, player agency that is near unparalleled in the action-adventure RPG genre, and it got almost not mainstream recognition for it at launch and still has a reputation of being buggy despite patches making it more stable than FO3 currently is on modern hardware. These bugs resulted in it getting a low score on metacritic and that meant Obsidian didn't get a bonus from Bethesda even though their game is clearly superio-
      >UMM ACTUALLLY NOBODY CARED ABOUT THE BONUS OK THEY NEVER EXPECTED TO GET IT YOU DUMB OBSIDIAN DICK SUCKER HAHAHAHA

        Anonymous

Well it is pretty aggravating when Bethesda did as much as they could to sabotage the game and withheld a bonus from them when it was 100% Bethesda's Fault they did not get it. Literally the most common complaints were bugs, and QA was handled by Bethesda and laughably short.

People also complained that NV felt too “different” from 3, while also lacking in world design. It wasn’t just the bugs (especially since Bethesda games have the same bugs).

Avellone preferring 3 to NV makes alot of sense actually. 3 is tonally more in line with Avellone’s other works like KOTOR 2. Base game NV is much cheerier than what Avellone typically writes.

      >3 is tonally more in line with Avellone’s other works like KOTOR 2.
A moronic karma system works better meta criticism of the Star Wars franchise. It isn't so great when it is played straight like FO3 or Fable.

      Anonymous

Base game NV is darker than FO3 by a mile. FO3's idea of darkness is "mindless and facitonless psycho cannibal slaver raiders everywhere and gore and skeletons and bums begging for water!". FNV is about good-natured attempts at reviving civilizations crumbling and failing, it's about people with good intentions doing shitty and sometimes terrible things.

People say that Bethesda screwed them out of the bonus only because the game was clearly not ready to ship and needed more bug testing/time.
What's really funny though is that the bugs in NV hurt the score badly whereas Bethesdas bugs never hurt their score, that's the bigger issue.
