what the frick even is this like a mod or something?
seems like a surreal romhack of Mario 64 that uses a bunch of beta assets and has like 400 stars or some shit.
There needs to be a big hack with multiple floors where you have 1k stars to collect.
It's a hack that pretends to be a demo build but in reality it just delves you deeper and deeper into a rabbit hole of new areas in the same vain of looking beyond a curtain

you need to perform frame perfect wall jumps to not lose speed, start off long jumping from the corner of the hedge

I'm Using the launcher version of the parallel core, but i get slowdowns in some of the red fog areas. This used to happen with 0.7 on parallel as well

One thing I noticed is that there doesn't seem to be a huddle of information like when v0.7 released. Anons got together and put a fricking wiki together when that released, detailing what goes where and what certain triggers were. Haven't seen that at all for the 1.0 release, I'm assuming because it's not as easy to get lost anymore?

It's just kinder with not respawning you in one of three places and actually letting you exit paintings normally half the time
Personally speaking, while the new stuff is cool, especially the first few areas behave mostly the same, and people figured those out months ago. Because you have a core set of areas you're familiar with, the feeling of being hopelessly lost and confused doesn't really set in as hard.
Getting got by the triple lobby in 0.7 hit different until you understood what was happening; now you know how it works, and have learned to expect it and tricks like it.
This romhack blew its load too early, in a way. Maybe if they had changed the main lobby for the 1.0 release.
The main lobby was changed btw but it's a lot more subtle than before.
Seemed like it acted mostly identical to me? Only differences I noticed were the sun carpet warps being slightly swapped around and maybe one or two of the second floor/courtyard doors leading to different stuff.
Is there some big new mechanic/secret I should be aware of? Don't spoil too hard, but "yes/no" and maybe a subtle hint if yes is okay.

Ironic how part of the reason the whole drama started is because Chris wanted to cancel the hack and refused to let the other devs continue development but now he is double backing and letting them continue development so the whole drama was just pointless.
he wouldn't have caved if not for the drama. he said he hated the hack and regretted making it, but he also couldn't bear the thought of it continuing without him.
He's also pinning Roman and Benedani as the bad guys even though Chris is the one that refused to continue development and was downplaying the contributions of the other devs.

Not exactly. Before Chris changed his mind, Roman and Benedani were planning on continuing development without Chris. He is now letting the other devs continue development but the catch is that Chris is still going to direct and oversee development, but he himself is not doing anymore romhacking. Roman and Benedani are refusing to cooperate with Chris though so there's a bit of a divide between the developers and losing Benedani is a big hit to development because he was the coder for the team.
Chris isn't involved at all, he's trying to make it seem like he's still involved when he's not like the control freak he is
Unfortunately the only people who know the truth are anyone who has been in these Ganker threads because Roman and Benedani haven't been very public about their side of the story, meanwhile Chris is getting his dick sucked by the people in his Discord as well as people in Vinny's comment section as this amazing rom hacker who is boohoo poor guy gets no recognition for his music and he is physically and mentally ill while the rest of the dev team is getting disrespected.

the picture in OP is a VHS filter. the easiest way is just to use retroarch since it has a bunch of them.
I'm at 50 stars right now but I hear there's gonna be an update that fixes the missing star id's. Should I wait a little longer for that update to come out?

Every once in a while my game's textures turn to stuff like this. Is there a method to getting this to happen consistently? It seems to happen around the turn of an hour, but very rarely, no idea what causes it.

Both levels have the Blue Switch, it's just that one is at the beginning of the level and the other is at the end of the level.

The level with the Blue Switch at the beginning of the level was the original level in v0.7. The other Vanish Cap level with all of the platforming is the new default level for the painting with the old level being a secret RNG level for the painting.

I think they are on occasion, but I do agree that it's overused as frick and often a chore.
not him but the only "long corridor" area i liked was at the very start of dry world as you see the town come into view, which can classify as an atmospheric moment.
The entire game is obtuse and difficult to navigate, the long hallways are a part of that and make the game what it is. Not only are they a part of the surreal architecture that adds to the uncanniness of the castle, they provide a feeling of anticipation and mystery for the player, as they are forced to walk down it and imagine what lies on the other end based on what they are able to happen to see.
This isn't a level-based hack, it's a Yume Nikki-like
Think of the switches and red stars as something akin to effects, they allow you to do a few new things but don't hugely expand the world because it's still a chaotic mess of warps
So that's what happened. I remember being so confused about the switch just suddenly being gone.
Worse, I entered a different level at some point that just randomly let you use a vanish cap block without the switch, so I thought maybe just entering the cap switch level unlocked the cap or something.

How many places can you find this thing? I've found it twice so far; in that dark room with the weird Bowser portrait and that place where you go through 20 rooms in a row to find it.
I think there's also a third one in that area full of doors with the Mario RPG music but I never found that one.

You don't. I built parallel-n64 with every possible combination of CFLAGS and it doesn't work. That homosexual anon patched something and didn't bother to explain what. I had to resort to running Project64 under WINE.

Nebula Lobby hits hard
nebula lobby as a whole is such a nice spot in the game, the weird 3d models of the bullet bill and the chain chomp against a cloudy sky are unlike anything else in the game (with the latter being my favorite portrait in the game) and i think in general it has some of the best courses.

yeah, the ancient city's incredible and the slider... "remix"? i feel perfectly captures the insanity of the romhack. it's very similar to the original but also different enough so you know something's changed, and despite being at the same speed as the original playing all these wrong notes make it sound much faster paced
a comment says apparently the flooded ancient city's track is actually it somehow messing up how it makes the nighttime version of the tracks and forgetting to change the soundfont (which honestly every nighttime track should just be a slower version instead of the weird music box sounds, most of them aren't that great).
So what you're saying is Night flooded city being so good is a happy little accident

last post said it too but a lot of the night versions of the tracks suffer from the soundfont, i don't think they're as bad as some earlier threads say but just having them be slower already would give the songs a more calming feel, you don't really need the music box soundfont.

Hidden lobby has a star over at the ceiling while bob-omb has you rush for a star as well

yeah i've tried to get off the timed arzone bob-omb battlefield mountain too with no luck, you get a red star just from getting to the top of that version of the mountain so it seems all it's there for is just to have prince bob-omb chastise you and punt you out of the painting.
