B3313 Sunshine Edition

Is it really easier to make a full fledged romhack than it is to hack into Nintendo?

So a great hack held back by stupid jumpscares and other creepypasta bait?

I feel like B3313 created intrigue with its jumpscares by having creepy hallways that don't lead to scares.
But yeah this looks to be pretty jumpscareless

Good, B3313 started good but it became too excessive with the horror aspect. It was better when it felt like it was an empty wasteland with a handful of odd events. It's still a great romhack honestly but still, lost any subtlty it had.

It still maintain that 0.7 was the best version of B3313 because it was the last version before Chris started to lean in hard on the horror aspect of the hack.
It was also the last version that Chris released before he started going fully unhinged.

And I still maintain he was driven to that because the playerbase was more into the "canon" than his romhack's actual merits. It's like undertale where the fans it attracts are at least as insufferable as the creator.

0.7 was good because it felt like a proper maze unlike subsequent versions

What do subsequent versions feel like?

Youtuber lore/iceberg bait. There's a few genuinely gpod scares in it, the fire in the basement for instance is honestly effective since it's so simple with no loud noices or flashing screen pop ups, but ones like the bodies covered in Toad's face texture zooming in and out is just too goofy. Still an overall quality hack with a lot of work put into it, just a shame it lost the subtle charm of earlier versions where you had so few spooky events that players might never even find one while playing blind.

More of a banal exploration thing. Do the front door for the first few stars, then the basement opens. More stars and the backdoor opens, etc. And the zones feel like they're organized by depth so that escaping back to the courtyard is as easy as picking the doors that look like exits. You want to escape or find somewhere interesting in 0.7 in comparison, you have to wander the rat maze and brave le spooky liminal spaces until you do.

          >Had entire games worth of ideas thrown at him by other team members and randos, even shit that was very doable under his circumstances
          >Ignored it all to add faceless/shadow mario chase sequences instead
Based he didn't listen to all the cringe shit in favor of his vision, cringe he did it in favor of shit of equal cringe.

The only thing I think they have in common is that they're based on prototypes
Which B3313 just happens to be one of the first big beta-themed romhacks.
This is more like Sunshine's equivalent of The Preservation Project.
That being said honestly I think I'd rather have an equivalent to Gamma 64 due to Sunshine's setting if someone made a beta themed mod with original levels.

this and b3313 has nothing in common

Is there enough of beta Sunshine stuff to fill a whole Sunshine with?

It's enough to make a small mod like Gamma64.

This is the modern equivalent of "you must register to this forum to download files", it's nothing new

except the servers and discord itself often ask for phone verification, so it's even more intrusive just to download a file.

Fair, I think my account is old enough to not require phone.
remember bugmenot? I feel like that site is obsolete now

Do we know that the Spaceworld demo was supposed to run at 60? The only thing we have of it is a screen recording of the trailer.

I'm assuming it's using the sunburn engine which supports 60fps

In terms of gamecube mario stuff, I’d love to see someone attempt to actually make mario 128 a reality by taking inspiration from old weird tech demos like mario 128 itself and this peach’s castle one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jE85lOieDnw

I like that the Peach's Castel demo music made it into B3313. Would love to see a level or room from it as an easter egg in Sunshine 2001.
