BAD NEWS Fallout 4 Next-Gen Update Could Break 'Game-Sized Mod,' Forces Delay

Last week, Bethesda surprised folks by announcing that its long-in-the-works next-gen update for Fallout 4 was arriving in a few weeks. The update, which was announced back in 2022 and missed its initial 2023 release window, comes on the heels of Amazon’s hit Fallout show, and is set to arrive on April 25. However, not everyone was excited about this announcement. For most, the news of Fallout 4’s next-gen update is a well-timed boon, but for the team working on an ambitious mod, the news has completely blindsided them.

Can you imagine fallout London mogs fiture fallouts and ES? Bethesda would die as a dev company

Every quest mod from the last 10 years has mogged Bethesda. Just look at how many quest mods they ripped off and got away with because of their EULA.

am I a boomer or is there no real need for it?
i could understand an overhaul/remake/whatever for fo3/nv cause they're old as frick (although this would also kill mods, most of which would never get updated) but FO4 is still more or less fine

It's not a remaster/remake. They are simply adjusting the settings to take advantage of the new hardware and fixing some ingame bugs they should've fixed years ago.

well yes this update will brick hundreds of mods.
but why not just release london now since it works at the moment acording to them?! if you wish for it to be compatible with bethesdas new update you can try patch that shit later.
its just another yandere dev situation isnt it, nothing is actualy completed and theyre lying.

      >but why not just release london now since it works at the moment acording to them?!
cause first impressions are the most important, as should be obvious by sneedclave, or really just any anticipated game that was a mess on release - it takes months and plenty of marketing effort to make people take another look
releasing it in a buggy state, or even somewhat unfinished, is not a good move. it kinda sucks no matter what they do, but I think mod autists would rather play on legacy version than play through pre-beta.

Because they're fricking morons. The mod was finished last year but they decided to wait four fricking months for "muh meme date xd" and now they're getting buttfricked by Todd. Should've thought of that, imbeciles.

    >Forces Delay
its not forced at all. GOG galaxy has version control. you can even downgrade to a previous patch. the mod developers could just release the mod and tell peope to use fallou versio number xxxyyy. they are blaming bethesda but really they should blame steam for not having version control, and rather than delaying they should tell people to play it with a specific version and this is most easily done with GOG

    >fallout london released on April 23
    >next-gen update released on April 25
what exactly is the issue? it's not like it would take a month to get through it
it's not like they would have gotten the dev build to develop on anyway, and "b-but we dun wanna update" puts them in the same situation as every other mod released until now

      >Always happy when Todd dabs on troony modders
You morons don't understand, this HELPS the mod more than hurts it. It builds a narrative of david vs. goliath, it gets more eyes on Fallout London after people read articles and watch videos about the delay due to the next gen patch, it pressures Bethesda to let them release it standalone, it gives them a few extra months to polish things further, and anything wrong with the mod at release they can still blame on Bethesda. The modders won ultimately.

        >It builds a narrative of david vs. goliath
        nobody cares
        >it gets more eyes on Fallout London after people read articles and watch videos about the delay due to the next gen patch
the vast majority of people that would play it were already aware of it before it got pushed back
        >it pressures Bethesda to let them release it standalone
given how they had literally zero (0) communication with bethesda... yeah nah
        >it gives them a few extra months to polish things further
nobody forced them to release now. presumably they thought the mod is more or less finished
        >and anything wrong with the mod at release they can still blame on Bethesda
        maybe
        >The modders won ultimately
yea they won another few months of boring as frick technical work of updating the mod because Todd cucked them with the release date

I don't really understand why they won't release official SKSE analogue. they know very many people who play betheslop play it for the mods so why wouldn't they? it's not like it would be a lot of effort - afaik SKSE is written by just one autist and he doesn't even have access to source

It's generally been a team as far as I can tell, whether anyone did the lion's share I wouldn't know. Otherwise, script extensions happen since Bethesda falls a bit short in foresight for modding.

it's going to take a day to fix but the mod devs will take another year because they have the excuse for delay. this is why we need old school suits back in gamedev to make them actually finish shit. It used to be they'd ask for 6 months and some grownup with responsibility would say no you have 3 finish the fricking job. Now we live in a non confrontational work culture where these lazy ass devs can just delay forever for the smallest roadblock. It's just anxiety that they don't want to launch yet until it's "perfect". This happens across many industries but you have to have someone to put the foot down and say GET IT DONE. Don't complain when games take decades to make instead of a couple years when you're so lenient and forgiving for devs.

Insane how lucky they got. This will probably get fixed in a day but the mod team will use the update as an excuse to delay it for months, and since Bethesda is the boogeyman right now people will eat it up.

  24. 2 weeks ago

this is going to take another year. you can see the giddy in his eyes here at having an excuse to delay the release even more for """improvements""". It's not just a delay to patch for the update.

That's simply the risk of being a freelance modder for a Bethesda game. They spent a lot of time developing a new title, an upcoming 'legendary' patch was to be expected.
I don't condemn Bethesda for this, they should be able to pull through.
