I cannot win a SINGLE run with this piece of shit deck. How do you survive the early game with 3/3 hands and discards and no money?
I cannot win a SINGLE run with this piece of shit deck. How do you survive the early game with 3/3 hands and discards and no money?
just draw homie like what the frick just draw your hands and frickin win homie
frick black deck, sounds good on paper but a single extra hand makes all the difference in the beginning
Decided to spice up the challenge run, anyone else /mad/?
wow
>shiv
you didnt beat the game
Does it need to kill a joker in order to trigger? Or can this be my only joker and scale between rounds
It gains mult when it triggers on an endless joker and endless jokers cant be destroyed so yeah
Unlike shiv, the +1.5 on madness is independent of the joker destruction.
Fricking finally, lost in the final ante so many times.
I just got the orange stakes unlocked with the red deck, i am not looking forward to the increasing pack cost
holy kino thanks anon
No problem brother
I'm gonna post it again cuz I'm happy with it
>polychrome last
Good ordering, friend.
nice
Qrd this game?
It's like video poker but instead of beating the dealer's hand you're being challenged to hit a target score. There are over a hundred joker cards on top of all kinds of consumable cards, passive card modifiers, and leveling up hands so you can focus your strategies.
You make poker hands to reach a score.
It earns you money.
You buy jokers and booster packs that multiply your scores.
It has a little more to it than that, but that's the main idea.
OK I'm bored
It's poker 2
dangerously pure kino
Almost time to see if I can make it the whole way.
>checkered deck
we both know you didnt beat the game
Why would you use checkered deck? That's just negating the whole point of the challenge.
Almost won with a duped stencil joker, but the final blind was that one that disables a random joker so basically cut my potential in half. It was a painfully boring run too, so stung extra.
Thought I'd ask again
Does anyone know if the glyphs for the boss blinds have any meaning?
I'm wondering if we put them all together they can make a picture of something
r8 my run so far
you didnt beat the run
Just won with a pair deck, got the joker that upgrades the first discarded hand and went nuts.
DID YOU KNOW that a straight flush is a hand that contains both a straight and a flush, not necessarily consisting of the same cards?
wtf
Every time I get ZA HANDO in the shop, it's always late in the run when I have my deck built for something else.
n-nani?!
yeah hand validates them separately absoultely broken shit
I don't understand this post
There's a card that allows flushes and straights to be made with four cards, and a five-card hand can fit both a straight and a flush inside it as you can see. Though now that I look at it that should definitely just count as a flush since a flush scores higher, similar to if there's four of a kind inside a flush it only counts the four of a kind
"straight flush" is a specific kind of hand, with the planet card neptune. Card hands have a tier list of hands overriding each other that has nothing to do with how much they score. Even if your Straight would score way higher than a Straight Flush somehow, like if you had level 20 Straight and level 1 Straight Flush, you would still get it scored as a Straight Flush because it's higher tier.
There's also a special hand that's Flush + Full House that has its own planet card
Okay, well Flush is one tier higher than Straight, and the "Straight Flush" in the picture is clearly just a separate Straight and a Flush, why does it count them as one hand?
The requirement for a hand to be a Straight Flush is for the hand to contain both a straight and have a flush. A hand that fills those conditions will always count as a Straight Flush. The weird case of having one number wrong and one color wrong is just a weird corner case that happens because of the Four Fingers joker.
In terms of hand priority, I think Flush Five is the highest possible priority (5 of a kind + flush), then Flush House, then Five of a Kind, and then Straight Flush, then the rest of the normal hands in the order of their base score.
It seems like all the special hands are hands that are impossible to make with a standard set of playing cards. You pretty much have to make illegal decks using the shop to play hands like a flush house (which can't normally be made because each card only has two of each color IRL)
Oh. So that's what happened in that one run.
>he doesn't know about the two pair flush
ngmi
it's literally a straight deck are you moronic
homie that’s like the easiest deck wtf are you talking about?
I won on my first try but it's kicking my ass in latter runs, the issue is that it fricks up the early game so hard since you can't play shitty cope hands for the first two antes while building up money
I play 1 hand on the first ante every time. If you don’t get a good one just reset. It’s extremely simple.
what hands do you even play for that? I Basically everything requires pretty high value cards to get off the ground in one go without jokers
Redpill me on the hieroglyph
How and when is -1 hand and -1 ante a good thing
Stalling for time to revisit the shop can easily make up for a slightly smaller hand, especially when you've already modified your cards to be consistently good.
You get to repeat the previous ante, which is like a free round of shops and income for where your deck should be. You can make up for the -1 hand with the +1 hand voucher.
Stalling while feeding some jokers to scale (plus mult / chip if do something)
if you have any joker that gets better by playing more it's a must buy since it gives you more time to increment, also more time to build up money and luck into good jokers and all that
No YOU tell ME why is it a bad thing, because as far as I know hands are only needed in very specific builds, like vagabond for instance and otherwise are completely unneeded
why does orange stake feel so impossible it's literally just the one below but $1 more booster packs
because you mostly scale by buying boosters since the base shop size is too small to consistently get anything of value and you functionally need like double the econ to keep up with how aggressively the cost increase scales
which means if you werent already playing econ builds youre probably gonna hit a wall there for a while until you adjust how you approach the game (and start resetting when you get dogshit early shops because that is the point at which this becomes necessary)
>purple stakes: i coasted along for the first half of the game with my 5 jokers, now let me buy booster packs to stay alive until the end of the game
>orange stakes: oh frick, a pack is $11
orange forces you to have an economy
FINALLY UNLOCKED THE NEXT DECK HOLY SHIT BLACK IS HARD
I just realized I forgot the black deck gets an extra joker, I played the whole thing with just the 5
what happens if i run out of cards before i run out of hands do i softlock myself or is it game over is there achievement for that
ded
It's so over...
bro... This is why we make duotone decks...
The diamonds called. I dug too greedily and too deep. I almost made it anyway. I probably should have just played more debuffed cards instead of discarding for what little was left in the deck.
You weren't relying on card triggers anyway, right?
are debuffs really so bad? It just removes the flat chip value from the card itself right? Shouldn't most of your scoring come from hand value and mults and stuff anyway?
debuffs kill chips and abilities, so all they'd be good for is filler for the hand value
>$47 payout after one round
TO THE MOON
>negative diet cola
you double Black person
Just dont play card games, they suck
What would his effect be?
I imagine it'd be like the inverse of the Raised Fist, so it'd be encouraging you to discard/destroy face cards.
>Rise Up
After every hand played, destroy a random unplayed card and gain X0.1 Mult
Destroy/Discard your highest card, and add it to your mult.
>we live in a society

What would happen if I...
+26 *'-'*
New best hand of 58+ million running 4 of a kind.
Frick knows what tech is required to start passing the billion mark.
I havent looked at any guides or unlocked everything so we'll find out i guess.
>Frick knows what tech is required to start passing the billion mark.
[glass him]
it just becomes exponential multiplier hell after a point
If I choke this run I'm going to fricking kill myself
feel free to laugh at my negative ride the bus I skipped a big blind for it too
I spent like two days eating shit and then this shit happens. I hate this game but I can't stop playing it.
i fricking hate that boss that automatically discards 2
shows up early game constantly and makes it impossible to use hands as discards
-1 discards is just fricked man
makes it so much harder to run anything that relies on specific hand types
>anything that relies on specific hand types
Mistake number 1
got my best hand ever earlier today. was a fun build
Tips for noobs?
full house is a trash hand
Pay attention to the multipliers of jokers. Some of them have their multiplier numbers stamped in a red box. Those should always stay to the right of jokers with normal multipliers. You can manually re-arrange your jokers.
Stop at Black stake
but i want to unlock the next 2 decks..
unless you care about steam achievements you can use the unlock all button on profile 1 and 2 to find out if theyre worth the trouble. Erratic is my favorite but Orange and purple are such pains in the dick
Stop being a fricking moron.
Here's an easy tip:
>First Ante - Small Blind
>check if skipping it gives you a good reward
>discard and only play high value hands A K Q J and 10s are the best especially for full houses
>immediately buy the first Joker you see that will help you win the first two Antes in a single hand
>save up
That's literally it.
if skipping it gives you a good reward
how the frick do i know what rewards are good to skip for that isnt the polychrome joker
>how the frick do i know what rewards are good to skip for that isnt the polychrome joker
You realize that's a terrible skip ante 1 unless you're yellow deck.
i get past this part but then get to ante 4/5 and still haven't seen a single joker in the shop that scales mult enough to get further
If you find a good Joker that will carry you for the first two to three antes. Then the next thing you need to find is an econ Joker.
Take arcanas whenever possible as long as you stay above 10-20 gold. Only spend more if you find a genuinely great Joker. Always try to play your best hand and if you see your points being able to beat the Boss Blind then don't be afraid to skip if you see some good rewards. Ideally by the end of Ante 3 or 4, you'll have the opportunity to pivot and define what your build is going to be.
Oh and get +1 hand vouchers.
frick meant profile 2 or 3
how the frick are you supposed to get the $400 unlock? i can't see that being possible since i can't imagine getting to that late in the run with only income jokers and not making many purchases
Find a bull and a boot and then focus on going to the moon, easy.
i did it with midas mask + golden ticket, nothing else
If you want a cheesy way to do it, anaglyph deck. If you store up your double tags you can turn them into around $30-$50 each if one of the right tags shows up
I got lucky and did the run for it by accident - I was playing the painted deck and got a Rocket right after the very first blind. Then right after the first boss I got a foil Bootstraps and figured I'd just spend as little money as I could from then on.
I also did the run for it by accident... almost.
I got this <10 hours in before I knew about the unlock. I've played 30 hours since then.
egg and temperance
thats how i did it.
I must restarted about 50 times trying to get it with the yellow deck coming close a few times.
Then after a few attempts I got it with this erratic deck run. Not pictured is the vampire with over 10x scaling and a blueprint copying it.
>need to play a flush
>play the cards
>it also has 4 of a kind in it
>4 of a kind takes precedent
>can't play flush
Black folk
Whats the best strat?
high card
unironically high card with flat mult
What do you mean "Best"?
I find that Flush is generally a very consistent strat early on and has a few ways to scale very well both as regular flush and because it can directly lead into Five Card/Straight/Full House Flush. However, you should obviously lean into whatever you get based on jokers.
A lot of things work, in Ante 3+ you need to have a plan, look for jokers that are strong enough to carry you or at least strong enough to keep you going for another Ante. Don't sleep on scaling jokers like Pants joker which can carry you if you get it early enough.
It's a roguelite. The best strat is adapt to what you are offered. You must execute reasoning to understand what direction to build based on what you are offered.
High card, pair, 3 of a kind, and flush are all free to build around without any editing. If I give you a piece of rope you maximize area within that rope by making a circle. You minimize area within that rope by making the skinniest possible oval. Ergo you need to scale both chips and mult. Excessively high mult but no chips is just as gimped as high chips but no mult.
Holy shit, even with abandoned deck, runner on ante 1, both straight buffing jokers in ante 2, and 5 saturn cards, straight is just decent. Why the frick would you play this over full house, 2 pair, or flush?
Straight can be good, but you have to understand that
>abandoned deck, runner on ante 1, both straight buffing jokers in ante 2, and 5 saturn cards
is drastically inferior to
>Shortcut
Investing in Saturns is only okay-ish because a straight build always plans to transition into a straight flush build eventually.
Straight is objectively awful. Sure it can work but the win rate of seeking a straight build is drastically lower than other hand types.
Why is straight weaker than flush is something I've been wondering since it's easier to get a flush than a straight.
I didn't do it because i was so close to the 20 cards achievement and didn't want to frick it up, but now I'm curious what'd happen if I did

take the anaglyph pill
ironically i skip way too many fights for it to be good
hitting the +3 upgrade like 10 times for something thats easy to play is probably sex
>+24 hand size on final boss
It was a little dicey winning on red stake with it. Black and up I can tell is going to require a lot of rerolling. Anyway, picrel is my latest run. Just white stake with anaglyph deck. By the end, my Bull was about 1200 chips, and my Bootstraps were about +180 mult, with X3 multiplier doubled on three of a kind with blueprint, and a X3 mult with steel card joker. Really fun run. I had built up a Castle painstakingly to 308 chips when Bull showed up, and my poor Castle was the weakest thing on hand so I had to sell it.
i'm just moronic
almost 8 hours in
20 hours for me
don't worry anon, i spent about that long before i got a W, but now I've won a number of times after. i even repurchased it on another platform and won the tutorial seed first try. you'll get there
> Make a straight flush deck
> Getting royal flushes
> Huh, neat
> Later see there's a joker that unlocks when you discard a royal flush
Fricking hell
Are there any playstyles/builds that let you be flexible with the hands you play?
High card
What e-celeb is playing this? Be honest
many
it's what they call a smash hit
i wouldn't know because i don't pay attention to any of that shit - i'm a huge cardsloppa fan so i checked the demos out when they were being shilled in next fest threads
me
this is pretty much the only video game streamer I watch and he happens to be playing it
am i the only one who doesn't see much sauce in checkered deck? I find getting flushes to be pretty easy in most hands anyways.
eggy
He's just as annoying as any other streamer with his stupid pogface reactions. What a tool.
A decent chunk would be like myself and played the demo during steam next fest.
boot
Does anyone else think The Serpent is really free?
Unfortunately I lost on the first ante requiring scientific notation.
That smeared joker was doing nothing. A level 1 flush house and a level 1 full house are identical with that many multipliers. You could have easily vastly increased that score by using anything else other than smeared.
never got anything better sadly
In 12 antes?!? Doubt
I dunno what to tell you, I have barely any unlocks since I just started the game. I had something like 50/150 jokers at the time of that run
It's an alright game
Explain high card
The benefit to high card runs is that you can dedicate fricking everything to digging through the deck for the cards you need and you can take as many hand size and discard downgrades as you want with minimal downsize
>Explain high card
basically, your hand type's base mult is usually not too important (it is in a few situations like steel cards), most of your mult is from jokers
So with high card you just need 1 really good chips card (bull, daredevil, etc.) or a whole bunch of pluto cards to make up for the lack of base chips and suddenly it's not too off from other runs
>play the game blind
>it's alright, won my first run pretty fast
>check youtube to see what other people think about it

what the frick
To be fair, the first difficulty is really easy to get through with just common sense, the hard parts come later. But still, I don’t get why anyone would look up guide videos for the game, when the fun is all about discovering good combos yourself.
Base difficulty is the most fun anyway.
The stakes are all just autistic garbage that try to stop you from having fun in tbe game.
All of gaming is like this. Everyone immediately trying to powergame and look up guides and break the game. Fricking WoW ruined gayming.
What's the point of this post? That you discovered youtube?
Is the game finished or are they gonna make more contents?
Oh god do NOT play mahjong after Balatro, my brain literally melted trying to adapt to the change
Okay, this shit is just on a whole other level. I don't see how this is even possible unless I was using the plasma deck or got retriggers on all the steel cards
Welcome to the high ante meta.
The only way to beat those is by abusing triggers.
You can't just have a great Joker lineup.
You NEED a good deck as well at that point. Red seals, glass cards, steels, and polys are a must.
How? By the time I get to ante 8 I usually only have mults or bonuses on my cards. I never see enough spectral packs to get seals on a lot of them.
You can't force your way into Endless.
You really just have to hunt for DNA early. Alternatively, go HARD ECON early, find a good Red Seal card in a standard pack and/or Astral Pack and then go for full Arcanas with Death cards.
The black deck has taken pity on me and gave me Chicot as my first card.
I beat the run, but getting that "I didn't beat the run" feel. Chicot is honestly a shit card. It's powerful, but makes runs boring. I wish it wasn't in the game, so I'd get the more fun Legendries instead.

Square joker carries Pair and High Card build.
>Red pill me on the square joker
It's for 2 pair builds. 2 pair isn't powerful, but it's very safe. If you get it early on it can scale to around 150-200 chips by the end of the game. It's also important to know that if you play something like high card and throw in 3 junk cards that also triggers it
There's already rules for big scoring in mahjong that's just not used for regular play.
Bro forget that, I've been daydreaming about making a balatro-style cribbage game. Too bad 1000 other knockoff games in the same genre started development the day this demo dropped. Balatro will be the "Slay the Spire" of this genre without a doubt.
>Balatro will be the "Slay the Spire" of this genre without a doubt.
No question. For me it's a baltrified bingo game.
Daredevil is straight broken. It will solo through ante 4 for you a lot of the time and the downside while significant isn't nearly enough to counteract the hilarious chip bonus.
Sixth Sense is cool and fun, but luck-dependent.
Does anyone know if my progress would carry over from the pirated version to the steam version? I think they've earned my money at this point
wtf is econ
economy - how much gold you can make
>the perfect joker doesn't exi-
I was about to say "but you lose the benefit of you sell" but then I realised, you can use that one tarot card to get its sell price without selling it. And it'll KEEP growing
Nice indeed
Egg plus sell value multi jokes is how i won my first run
Someone said you can unlock a card by discarding a royal flush? Or is it just for an achievement?
i believe it unlocks brainstorm
neat
I wish there was a mode where every card was negative
Would be a good legendary joker effect.
UWAAAAAAAAA
>TWO copies on all 6s
Does it make glass break every time it's played?
Yeah that's the challenge. You have to play as little cards as possible early on while trying to pivot to high card asap. If you find eruption it's pretty much game over.
Oh, I'm stupid, thought it was a regular run
Isn't it weird there's no boss that already plays a set of cards for you? Like:
> boss plays 3 spades, king and queen
you can only add 2 of your cards ( and your hand is way smaller )
There's a boss that forces a card.
I want Texas Holdem to be an entirely new mode or DLC, not just a single boss.
REAL Balatro starts at purple stakes
something about the nebula deck is wrecking me man
i dont know if i'm expected to go all in one one kind of hand since i get the telescope early or what but i cant beat this fricker
any tips please?
How does Mr Bones work? I never pick it because I'm a greedy frick but what happens after "death is prevented"? Do you win the blind?
>Do you win the blind?
Yes. It should be reworded.
>what happens after "death is prevented"? Do you win the blind?
yes, you just move on as if you actually cleared the blind. It's good for saving you if you aren't prepared for something like needle, the wall, or eye
Lando: "That was too close"
Was the last hand too.
>buttplug joker
Post yfw
that's a sell. shrimple as that
You are the weakest link, goodbye. 4 of a kind too.
If you bought it with this as it's first requirement you deserve to lose
If you trigger it once, it was worth the buy, and selling it is still a bonus
Seltzer is fricking good. I never even came close to getting a 10th this score in a round before. I thought maybe I'd get 100k in one turn after using it, yeah, but not this much. Holy shit.
Between popcorn, ice cream and seltzer...seltzer is the best and it's not close. I guess it is an uncommon though.
baseball joker is insane but also so is this bull
Well done moneyman, well done...
HOWEVER
wasn't quite able to reach that level of power, guess the manlet beats the investor today

>Suddenly wonder why my score went from 3+ million to 2,000
It was when I finished Gold Stakes so I wasn't really mad, just annoyed at myself.
>upgrade your hand
>bull becomes essentially a +1 mult
If you're doing something like a high card or pair build it can be more useful since even upgraded those hands have low stats, and you rely on your jokers more
You're ridiculous. The only reason to avoid the bull is if you're scared of the Ox. There's no better scaling chip joker.
This good?
Holy fricking rizz, look at him now. What a dandy boy.
Yes if the extra joker can provide x2, it's like playing your hand twice already.
You don't get it only if you are barely winning blinds now and require that 1 last hand.
It doesn't seem to take a hand away like i thought it might, it just removes one of the cards from the pool
yeah that's why it says hand size and not max hands, peanut
that's hand size, much more important than number of hands.
hand size affects the obvious things in blinds but also the amount of cards that are randomly pulled when you buy a tarot or spectral card pack in the shop.
You really think so? I figured number of hands would be more important
number of hands is important if you're ramping some jokers that require you to play a shitton of hands, but if you have a decent setup you're going to be winning in one or two hands anyway. hand size always gets you closer to the cards you want and lets you control your deck even more efficiently with tarot and spectral cards
Going 5 to 4 hands is getting about 20% smaller score, less or more if you have something like last hand jokers or x3 on repeat hand. Plus if you really need to dig, it would be a free discard. If a joker would give you more than that (any xmult), it'd be worth it.
S-should I get another...?
-hand is something the spectral card causes, not the negative jokers. Take that shit.
Frick yeah, thanks buddy
That is worth taking like 99/100 times
what happens if you take it 101+ times?
The Joker shows up at your house and rapes you
If you have a run that is barely dragging along, it’s risky. If you have a great run that could have shot at ante 11 and up, then you take it and go big or go home, because that’s the only mentality how you can beat those.
It's a must take in 96/100 situations
I'm scared
>pick a type of hand you want to play
>stack plus mults, times mults, and jetons for this type of hand
>win
Game was fun for a little while but I solved it too fast.
Look on my hand, ye Mighty, and despair!
I noticed you can't get a flush on 4 of a kind or 5 of a kind. Pretty disappointing
bloody hell, purple stake is something
and there are still 2 harder difficulties
Purple is fine. Orange sucks dick and is the no fun allowed ascension. Gold is whatever after orange. Orange stake feels like shit to play.
>60h+ in the game
>just now realised I should put jokers that re-trigger cards at the end of the line rather than the beginning
its over, i was gonna kys anyway
lol why is porn upside down
probably because it's a phone with auto-rotate
damn i thought him stupid but it seems that would be me
Checkered deck is fricking stupid, but I enjoy it
I just spent half a day trying to beat purple stakes black deck and in the end I did it with a 4 joker setup, and the 4th one was just fluff anyways
frick this deck, it's so fricking bad
now on to do this two more times
You can beat ante 1 blinds with 1, 2 and 3 hands respectively relatively easy. If you don't get any decent jokers by ante 2 you're fricked. Honestly if I don't get any decent jokers in ante 1 with the black deck I usually quit
How do i beat the gold stake? i feel like i have t reset until i get a free shop tag and get lucky or i can just reset again.
Get it out of the way first, as you start unlocking more stuff, it gets harder to obtain decent early deck jokers, as you’ll start getting the uncommon and rare stuff mixed in, which tend to be for more specialized later ante builds.
Once you get used to the game, just get a feel for how your deck is coming along and restart by ante 3 if you don’t feel it’s going anywhere, as ultimately this is still a luck based game, so you’re always beholden to that to a certain extent.
>baron triggers before your flat mult jokers are applied
card is terrible for anything besides noob stake endless runs
its good if you get mult on your kings which isn't hard
Duped steel kings with red tags
Noice.
My noob ass getting some traction here.
Red, blue, yellow and green deck beaten, at base level that is. I'm... 7 hours in.
This game is so different to StS, I love it. Very refreshing.
>I cannot win a SINGLE run with this piece of shit deck
This but with yellow deck
$10 at the start is so worthless?
no it's good, don't spend it on useless shit and gather interest
Is Black Deck actually considered a difficult deck? It was my 2nd run win ever
it makes the early game worse for a payoff that will likely only arrive if you were already going to win anyway
every other deck has the equivalent of a joker baked in
black has the privilege to pay for his and gets one less hand to play, wrecking both econ and consistency
The frick? The Arm reduces your ranks PERMANENTLY? That's brutal
My first run that went past ante 12
Would go past this one too, if only I drew more of my red seal'd steel kings
does red seal work on things still in your hand?
Yes, works on both steel and gold
If you have a mime it doubles your blue seals, too
I've deliberately been avoiding red stamps on steel cards because I assumed they didn't do anything
negga
>Do a madness joker build splitting deck between two suits and maxing out flush

Just bought this last night. Not reading thread because I want to get gud on my own. Just wanted to say this game is fricking dope and thank you gays for making these threads and keeping it on my mind, God bless
Comeback and share your god runs and frick ups
>pick up some joker with a stupid condition to get a spectral card

Me with every conditional joker. All of them.
Is there a reason the soul spectral can spawn from tarot packs? Can other spectrals naturally spawn in those too or do you need the voucher for it?
I think it's just that card that can do it for whatever reason
black hole can appear in planet packs i think
That's the only place I ever saw Black Hole
probably because otherwise you'd never ever see any legendaries
the only other spectrals that can spawn naturally are afaik black holes in planet boosters
>reached gold stake (with abandoned deck)
>-1 hand size and all other stakes
This is horrible.
Protip:
Red Chip applies to 'Stays in Hand' effects.
No shit sherlock. But yeah every 'trigger' also works for cards in hand.

>You're playing a slot machine and being told that it's your fault when you lose.
it IS my fault thougheverbeit
>Damn this gameplay is FIRE
We must imagine that Sisyphus would enjoy playing roguelikes
i dont get it
oh
seems way too rng for me
It's like Oedipus with the shadows in the cave. He flew too close to the sun.
HEH
literally me

I can't play without black stake anymore.
>ghost deck, gold stake
>get an Ankh spectral from the first shop
>get a Throwback on the next one
>polychrome and dupe it
>get the Hieroglyph voucher
>skip the small blind and get a ton of money for what is still ante 2

Joker (2024)
>ante 2
b***h you're at the beginning of you run, it doesn't matter if you fail at this point
for the achievement that requires a run with no flushes, do straight flushes count towards that?
straight flush is a separate hand so it shouldn't
depends on the wording. if it says you cant play hands containing a flush, then straight flushes count
The "run without [hand]" achievements just require you not to play that specific hand, it doesn't matter if you play a hand that contains it.
is a royal flush a straight flush or it's own hand?
Both kinda, it's your straight flush level bonus + a little on top
Game counts it as just a straight flush but gives it a different name and a few bonus points
>wasn't paying attention during The Mouth
>accidentally made a flush house and now my normal full house hands are locked
This game was made by trolls
Finally won a round!
Yellow Deck is just good for if you don't really have a plan. Wound up just going full face card focus. Made me appreciate card effects being able to trigger again and again
I was worried when my McLovin card was disabled but managed to pull through
Straights really are the best hands there are, huh?
>Straights really are the best hands there are
not even close lol
flushes are easier to get and more valuable, straights just seem better instinctively because you want to make them from aces and faces
Flushes are only more valuable at lv.1 moron. Straights scale literally twice as fast
for almost all decks id say 1.flush 2.full house 3. rest
full house is worse than straight for sure, once you get into stakes you realize how weak it really is
Full house decks seem all fine and dandy until you get one round with worse than average rng and then it’s all ogre. Full houses are common enough to delude you that they are a good option, but in reality they’re too unreliable for consistent clears and especially on high stakes need far too many discards to be viable.
Honestly I feel that full houses lose out to three of a kind. It's easier to make sure those cards have buffs of some kind of them and it doesn't empty out your hand so you can line up a harder hitting combo
I can't beat the Knife challenge. Any advice?
hate it, but isn't the optimal strat to just restart the run until you get a good first skip? the payout is so shit for actually doing the first blind, starting with red stake.
who here /failed full house/ aka two pair?
I'm currently playing the magic deck and I already used my Fools to clone two extra copies of The Tower.
WHAT THE FRICK YOU CAN REORGANIZE THESE?!? I'm 20 hours in and I had no idea.
never encountered a death tarot, anon?
oh no wait you're literally using one in that screenshot
disregard me i suck wieners
that's what happens when you act like a smartass
shut up
Cute doe though
frick off moron
You can also reorganize your cards in your hand to change the trigger order both for the played cards and held-in-hand triggers
you can also reorganize cards on the collection screens, which does nothing
if you're a hyper sperg collecting stake stamps on jokers it could be handy to organize them to see which ones you've completed
nah you can only reorganize individual rows and they revert back to normal order when you open the screen again
You can also move around the card on the title screen
Since upside-down tarot cards are a thing, how would you implement as maybe DLC? Minor arcana as well?
My dream DLC would be tarot expansion via reverse/flipped cards, a completely new mini-pool (think Spectral size) of cards available via boosters & some new Jokers, an OST expansion featuring remixes of the main Balatro theme by a variety of talented indie game artists, and the kicker: a Joker expansion featuring a suite of Jokers custom designed by the music artists that contributed remixes. The player would be able to pick which version of the main theme they want to listen to from the option menu OR keep it default and the main theme will occasionally transition between the themes and remixes depending on which artists' Jokers you currently have equipped.
>finally beat red deck orange stake
jesus frick
seeing violet vessel as the boss made me nauseous, thank god the shop gave a frickload of cards to feed to campfire
I went to a local casino after doing well in this game and entered a stupidly high stakes 5 grand buy in with money I don’t have and lost almost all of it instantly
should've gone for the high card build
did you forget to bring your jokers?
You haven't lost anything if it was money yoou didn't have. Good thing you're smart and didn't play with money you did have.
Not my problem.
Just had my best run ruined by boss blind
>he didnt get his directors cut
>play deck that can be countered by a boss blind
>don't spend $10 for Director's Cut voucher
Maybe next time buddy
Sometimes you get what you want but not what you need
You should be blueprinting mime here, right? Way more triggers this way.
i tried to mime the ID to try have a chance to beat the boss since my hand was debuffed but it wasnt enough
yeah yeah, I meant in general, I somehow missed that the entire hand is debuffed lmao
Getting the re-trigger joker with the king and queen multiplier jokers was fun. You guys are right, checkered is the babby deck
>trying to do the "discard royal flush" achievement
>assemble royal flush
>ran out of discards
just keep a tarot around to change suits when you get an opportunity
Nah I ended up realizing I can just play the ante 1 small blind with the checkered deck over and over until I get it, quick as frick
Is A through J a royal flush if you have the joker that makes straights and/or flushes only require 4 cards?
i believe the game counts any straight flush that starts with a high ace as a royal flush
God fricking damnit. This was purple stake too. This was a really promising run. Do you know how fricking unlucky it is to have four or more of your seven 5s on your bottom twelve cards?
After doing the math
((7c4 * 33c8) + (7c5 * 33c7) + (7c6 * 33c6) + (7c7 * 33c5)) / 40c12
It's basically 1/10, which is higher than I thought but still fricking bullshit.
>get this seconds after spectral converting a bunch of my cards to nines
You funny, game
just get a bunch of strength and it's daijobou
How do get into higher antes? I can clear the 8 pretty easily, but I always hit a wall around 10/11 because I just can't keep up with sky rocketing score targets.
red seals, red seals on every single card in the deck
plus retrigger jokers
retriggers stacking xmult
you kinda need everything to go your way, its not something thats realistic to play for on every run like the heart in sts
I wish that shops in the first ante would always have one or two jokers available. It's pain the ass to restart runs because you don't get any jokers before the first boss blind.
I already restart if I don't get a free shop or mega arcana tag, what's a few more?
why do you need a joker for the first boss blind? big blind requires 2 high flushes/straights/full houses to defeat, and all those hands reward 300+ score so the boss blind goes down in 2 hands too
uh bro your econ
your -1 hand size -1 discard
>he redeemed
bloody bastard
Because it's a waste of time. I much prefer a strong start than putting up with a bad one and finding out two antes later that I don't have anything good to keep going with.
after the first boss blind is when you restart if you dont get anything, since 800 score is very difficult to obtain without multipliers
best ways to get negative jokers?
highroll a random one off riffraff
double tag, negative tag
>my first black deck win
yeah, we're gaming
>manage to get a good thing going
>frick up horribly on ante 5/6
>ghost deck
>skip ante 1 small for a rare joker
>blueprint, polychrome it
>jokers disappear from the game
>lose ante 2 on The Wall
>forever get stuck at Ante 11's crazy ramp up
feels bad man, I'll never make it to scientific notation at this rate
>90% of runs die by ante 3 if u dont get insane jokers
what were they thinking?
eh most of my runs either die after the first boss blind or towards the end. mid game is smooth sailing
The frick are you talking about, abandoned deck is clearly not anywhere near the bottom tier.
This is the easiest deck in the game, just play straights.
>just play straights
>get no jokers/packs to boost straights
>die in 2 antes
its dogshit deck because it has only 1 viable strategy
you are probably ignoring jokers and things that would save you because you're tunnel-visioning in on your "1 viable strategy". this is a common mistake
this game isn't about perfecting a build or going for the optimal thing
it's about cobbling together a build that works well enough from the trash you find
It's great because it has a whole 12 less cards than other decks, it is absolutely not a straight-only deck.
It's funny how few people here have played a TCG. They keep forgetting that thinning your deck helps every strategy in the game.
>play card game
>'hmm yes, i would like to have less cards'
What is wrong with you people
>game requires you to build a strategy that can win in 1-2 hands or you can't reach the higher antes
>hmmmmmmmmm should I waste all my discards trying to dig through the base deck or should I just construct a deck that gives me the hand I want more consistently?
It's not rocket science.
If you have the jokers for it then that's a whole different story.
>he's not deckmaxxing
how
Certificate of Authority creates a card every round
DNA dupes a card every round
Buying every standard pack and card I see in the shop
It all adds up for a huge Hologram (I didn't get past ante 11 anyways)
How high did that hologram get?
20 something
>get unlucky once
>die because no cards to fish to offset bad luck streak
smooth brain detected, the only benefit to small decks is jokers that boost small decks and if that small deck has 30 aces and you are planet x gayging
Because card games, single or multiplayer, suck and I don't like any of them. This one is uniquely appealing to me and I don't know why.
>flushgay detected
Why the frick would flushgay play abandoned instead of checkered? Abandoned is for straightgays.
>he didn't convert all his 9s into 10s with Strength tarots
>he didn't dump his low value cards ASAP to draw more 10s and Aces
>he didn't change his suits
>he didn't play the flush house build
>he didn't win the game
works on my machine
It's pretty easy if you're able to get ride the bus built up
I did it
Cool, now do it for all the decks and jokers.
Now do it with black deck for internet cool guy points
>He bought DNA?
>Deploy the Blinds.
>DNA?
>blueprint?
>deploy the glass ace red seal were going to the moon
>make four of a kind queen-spamming build
>win ante 8
>next ante shit asks you for 2-3 million
brou
and?
Anyone have any success with the Showman?
Why would I ever play yellow deck when I can pick magic and just dupe a bunch of Fools?
>not Easter egg for keeping basic ass joker all the way to ante 8
>get this
>instantly gamble it all on rerolls
>start a new run because no good jokers came up
>repeat
anybody else thought that this card would trigger and give you -$20? i didnt figure it until trying out the challenges, then again im uniquely moronic
Yeah I assumed it would set your money to -$20 and it was just a troll card for unlocking something cool.
Same but in real life
In an early playthrough I bought this and thought I was being clever by selling it when I was in the negatives.
My assumption being it would reset me to zero but alas it screwed my run.
There's a boss that resets your money to 0 if you play a specific hand. As a genius, I put myself at -$20 and then went up against the boss and immediately played a different hand to one-shot it, leaving myself in crippling debt.
My favorite card
DEBTMAXX
You’re not a real gambler if you’re not in crippling debt
I think I'm beginning to understand the bare minimum required to win a run.
>flat mult through jokers+planets
>at least one mult multiplier
>optional chip joker if running low-chip hands like pair
I usually run one or two chip jokers so that I don't get fricked by boss blinds that disable cards or nuke the base values for hands.
The most important factor is xMult. It's compounding. But you do want something that scales chips and base mult as well.
HOLY FRICK I WAS JUST LOOKING FOR THIS THREAD TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE VERY SAME THING!
BLACK DECK IMPOSSIBLE!
It has been 12 years since the last game where I hallucinated the game visuals while having my eyes closed
I cannot stop seeing fricking poker hands, and I cannot understand people who can't visualise in their minds
i was really sick a couple of days ago so apparently, delirious and half asleep i got up turned on my computer and typed a bunch of half-coherent ideas for new jokers in a notepad i put on my desktop
i did not remember doing this until the next day
Post em
nah its not interesting anymore i deleted/edited the shit that made no sense when i first found it
i do this for basically every game i play, type up shit that i want the game to do or change in a notepad
rarely ill make shitty mods to implement them if its easy enough but im super not a programmer so anything more complicated than text editing tends to be over my head
As a stoner lemme tell you never delete your half-sentient thoughts
this is not the first time ive done this nor is it the first time ive been unable to figure out what the frick i was trying to communicate with them so i didnt really think anything of it
i dont show people this stuff normally, i got a desktop and and folders littered with these things, not all game-related
it looks pretty schizo and its not easy to explain away
no chance i think
i fricking hate machine languages, ive done webdev before and it made me want to die
ill just keep playing this cool poker game thank you
That's the first step to game deving usually.
Post them anon
you can't understand it because it's made up nonsense to troll people, just like the shitty npc meme was
>3 polychrome jokers
>3 infinite scaling jokers
Anaglyph deck is so underrated
Is it just me, or are normal card boosters pretty bad 8/10 times?
If you don't have DNA and need a powerful card to dupe, it's either filler or a waste of money.
theyre good 99/100 of the time
a high card is always worth it, or basically any card with any enhancement is worth it
>a high card is always worth it
The shit I read in these threads.
I agree. I mostly skip them but it is worth buying if you have money to burn just to see if you luck into a great card you need
I only buy normal boosters if i have something like the Red Card.
depends on the build tbh I don't really buy them for straight decks
if u want to go far in endless glassing your entire deck is mandatory
how do
Justice / Death / The Fool / Cryptid Spectral card / DNA / Hanged Man everything that's not a card you want
Do you guys have any autopick ante 1 jokers?
yeah anything at all because you're not getting through ante 2 otherwise
Just pick anything with a multiplier it's ante 1
how hard is this game to pick up for someone who knows nothing about poker?
pretty easy, there isnt really any poker knowledge required because the game spells out all the scoring hands for you
Get used to recognizing the basic poker hands. That's all you need to know because you're not betting or doing anything else that you do in real poker.
You can look up all of the standard poker hands any time you want in Run Info, so you don't need to know anything besides the order of operations, and if you don't know that you need to go back to like 4th grade
excessive knowledge can in fact be a detriment because you dont wanna play the game like its actual poker, theres so many cards in your hand that make flush like the 3rd easiest hand to build despite it being upper-mid tier in actual poker
Shortcut has permanently fricked me up processing straights
/v/ros i think i stumbled into the high card god run
it's not a god run until you start duping steel cards with red seals
nevermind i got fricked by the eye it's over
>burned joker
>for high card
Ahh High Card
the hand I got my very first win with
I got it to level 26
>frick around with spectrals
>this happens
what do
pray for hack and fibonacci
at your darkest hour you wont even see one
I am just using flush fives to sweep ante 4
So is there any reason to try and do a low card run? Does only Hack really give it a bonus?
I really want them to add more boss blinds that mess with card values not just suites and faces.
Hack, Wee Joker, Fibonacci
The chips from the cards' values really stop mattering past the early game
That's more or less what I was asking, I was just moronic. I haven't bothered looking up all the jokers yet and I just didn't know if there were any more interactions.
If you have only a specific suit in the deck, does Ancient Joker not switch? I know Totem can only pick from cards in your deck, but not sure about AJ
>retry constant black deck runs on white stake
>lose every time
>try doing other decks with green stake
>win many runs
just had a nice high card run ruined by The Eye.
Never have I felt more like pic related.
Always buy the Director's Cut/Retcon voucher if you see it. It will save your run sooner or later.
the game needs a rebalance from the actual poker hand ranking
3 of a kind is harder to achieve than flush
straight is harder to achieve than flush
full house makes 3 of a kind basically obsolete
Agreed 100%. Don't care if the real poker hands don't line up with it, it's just not good game design to have it work that way.
>straight is harder to achieve than flush
The devs already agree because straight scales better than flush when you level it up, but you need both to be at like lv5 before straight gets marginally better
>Get a weird run going at blue stake blue deck
>Spectral Nega a golden joker with bull and both +hands played vouchers
>No way to make decent chips, but can spam mediocre hands
>Basically no mult yet but get nega trading card and slowly building up a sizable amount for bull to carry
>The Eye
>Can't manage most 5 card hands so I just run out of hand types I can play 1 hand before winning
I've had the issue of having this boss late and not having another viable hand, but this was a unique way to die
Read the planet card scaling. Flush is only better at Lv.1 and scales worse than all the others listed. Good runs for any other hand are stronger than flush when they actually get going and flush jokers have worse numbers than the others as well
Normal boosters are a bit meh since there's less chance for a good card to spawn in the 3 options. Jumbo and Mega are definitely worth it. But it's a lot harder to thin your deck than bolster it imo so just adding more cards of the ranks/suits you want to run, especially with a seal/edition/enhancement, is good food
>>The Eye
>>Can't manage most 5 card hands so I just run out of hand types I can play 1 hand before winning
anon...you can just play a high card and 4 fillers, it doesn't have to be 5 scoring cards
You're thinking of the wrong boss, the Eye prevents repeat hand types. I ran out of shitter hands to play
In the depths of the Endless... a shining beacon of hope appears
>final challenge
>restrictions: must match the Boss Blind's score exactly to defeat it
What kind of twisted person could come up with such a thing? That's too much.
idk what either of these posts mean and i have 60h in the game
So I take it plasma deck is the only way to get past ante 13 without DNA?
fib hack can do it just not easily
or a good legendary combo probably
dna is definitely the easy way to do it though
plasma is definitely the strongest deck on average, but theoretically black can go deeper with the extra joker slot.
an extra joker is equivalent to like one highroll negative
probably the other half of why black deck is so shit, the extra joker usually doesnt end up doing anything beyond letting you hold onto an econ joker for too long since the hard part is actually finding the good jokers that work together, not fitting them all in one build
Gold Stake is absolutely fricking MISERABLE. What is this dogshit? Like I finally won a run but it's like the stakes were specifically designed to make shit as unfun as possible.
The entire god damn point of the game is to create wacky builds with Jokers and modifiers. That's the bread and butter. And the only way to do that is to spend money on the shop. So what do the stakes do? They make it so that it becomes exceedingly hard to make money. If you thought barely getting any gold from the small blind was already shit, don't get an aneurysm when you see the booster pack frickery later on. And you can't even reliably skip to get gold from the skip rewards because then the scalig will frick you in the ass.
It's like if instead of making encounters harder in Slay the Spire. The Ascensions made it so that you get less card choices overall when the entire point of Slay the Spire is to pick cards to build a deck with. That's how moronic the Gold Stake is.
FRICK
I don't bother going for the extreme challenge like A20 in STS because this game is way more luck-based
something i have come to accept with this game on the high stakes is its literally a slot machine, some seeds are doomed to lose and you should learn to hold R very quickly. Its not like slay the spire or FTL where you can mitigate the rng (at least in the early game) to a great extent with skill and knowledge.
I'm just a bit salty just because of how awful the gold stake grind was.
I wish there were more interesting difficulty modifiers instead of just LOL FRICK YOUR MONEY. Like maybe give the small and medium blinds their own mini boss effects as well? Or make the starting difficulty where the player can't see his deck in a match and he actually NEEDS to count cards.
The eternal Jokers are interesting. They introduce neat little choices in a run. That's what I want in the higher difficulties. Like add in a "cursed" cards. Where if you play a blighted Ace it halves your chip/mult. Or if you discard a certain cursed card it deactivates a Joker for a turn. Sure it's RNG but it's INTERESTING RNG that you can fight off using the booster packs. Don't just make it so that I get less gold and thus less opportunities to mitigate RNG. Make it so that there are more negative consequences that I need to spend gold on to fight off.
>Like add in a "cursed" cards. Where if you play a blighted Ace it halves your chip/mult. Or if you discard a certain cursed card it deactivates a Joker for a turn.
okay you know what cursed cards/jokers sound cool as frick tbh
i could see this being an expansion pack to the game if the dev ever adds it
imagine a cursed build
gold stakes are absolute aids. i would rather have one of the bad stakes replaced with one that increases the amount of antes you have to do to 'win' the run, like up to ante 10 or so, which would make the run harder without taking away the player's agency.
the black stake is definitely the best one, it introduces a unique mechanic to the game that isnt just 'frick you the numbers are worse now' and actually introduces something that influences your decision making. what's better is that it can even be GOOD to have eternals in some circumstances, like with madness, ceremonial dagger and certain spectral cards.
i just finished my gold stake run on blue deck recently and went to beat the rest of the decks on red stake, and im having so much fun. i can win runs with my good decision making and not just because i got lucky, and that feels infinitely better than grinding gold stake for hours.
i fully understand the pain. what were they THINKING?
AHAHA YES I BEAT THE ORANGE STAKES
Nothing feels more doomed than reaching for that banana, it's my #1 sign the run is irrevocably fricked.
The last act of a desperate man.
>buy cavendish
>instantly lose the 1 in 1000
never again
is there something that comes afterward? i dont get the seemingly arbitrary 1/1k destroy chance
How do I get to passt 11?
I can get to 8 with relative ease and usually up to 10 is also fine, I did 11s a couple of times but beyond that is just never even close. It gets so steep there and I just don’t see how to tackle it
Retriggers.
The higher antes don't just demand good Jokers.
They demand that you have good cards as well. That meand red seals. Steels. Polys. And glass.
Why would you ever choose red deck over blue? An extra hand is infinitely more useful than an extra discard... playing a garbage hand is like a discard that still contributes a bit of score.
If you have jokers like Ride the Bus then you can't necessarily play the cards you want to discard.
What's the best deck to beat green stake?
any of them
checkered is super easy to play if youre still figuring the game out though
but it gets kinda shitty in the later antes since it leans so heavily on spam upgraded flushes
Thanks. Out of curiosity, what would you say is good in the later antes?
Are there any cards that actually work like a real joker would? The only thing I've seen is the "wild" modifier, but that only pertains to suit.
funnily enough no
Blueprint kind of has that wild aspect to it.
Based purely on fun factor
>black
>S for fun
>black
>S tier
>erratic C tier
It's the best
>black in S
black is fun midgame onwards but having to restart constantly because of ante 1/2 rng fricking you over is miserable
Under-rated carry for the early game.
all my hands are 5 cards because it doubles down as discard
it can carry through the early antes but becomes totally useless a lot faster than the other early jokers
Who here /livesontheedge/?
i want to destroy this piece of shit so i get the most powerful joker in the game
how much worse is green stake than red? Also what's a good deck for it?
My deck is entirely based on four/five of a kind. If I am ever unable to form a four of a kind before I run out of discards and hands I will lose, as no other hand can score high enough for me to survive.
Last blind was the wall. I had to assemble a four of a kind 3 times, only managed to do it twice. I have failed.
Also frick the anaglyph deck
How do I play poker?
You click the cards
I haven't bought it yet. I don't know how to play poker/
You get a bunch of cards, you can select up to 5 to play or discard up to 5 and get new ones. In this game you can do this a few times each.
The hands are just basic combos of cards. Pair, three of a kind, four of a kind, two pairs, "full house" (three of a kind and a pair), flush (all cards are the same suit), straight (all cards are in order), etc. If you don't know what hands exist you can just click the "run info" button and it shows you almost every hand you can assemble, aside from 3 secret ones that you have to find for yourself.
If I'm this mentally moronic and never played poker would I like this game?
liking poker basically doesnt matter, as long as you dont actively hate it
Carefully.
