So no, it's not shitty roguelike that designed to weaken you and then let you get the "upgrades" through multiple run until you're barely strong enough to beat the bosses.
It's a solitaire/singleplayer poker game where you need to make hands of up to 5 cards busted enough to beat the target number of points each round.
You get money at the end of each round to spend on modifiers that make playing certain hands stronger, or to improve individual cards.
Each "Ante" is a set of 3 rounds, the third being a boss round that fricks you over in some way. You win once you beat Ante8, but you are offered to take your deck into an endless mode of insanely ramping difficulty.
You can skip rounds (But not the boss) to gain free bonuses at the cost of not getting the money from that round (And many strategies are encouraged to play as many rounds as possible for scaling)
TLDR;
its a deckbuilder roguelike that is as pure to that theme as possible instead of being tacked onto other genres. There is no psuedo rpg bullshit here, its just classic card games.

yeah the highest I've made it so far is the second round of ante 11 (round 30 I think) using flush five glass aces. In the beta version everyone used to say the game doesn't begin until after ante 20.

you basically need to multiply one kind of card so that you're playing nothing but flush fives

You can play a hand to effectively discard cards so having an extra discard only seems better if you're up against The Needle.
Just play straights and get multiplier multipliers while having at least one joker that gives a multi to whatever you play. Even if you cant play a straight you get a lot of points and can use your hands as last moment discards. 400k easily.
I feel like the full game pigeonholes you way too hard into flush builds
Like there are so many suit specific jokers meanwhile only 2 or 3 that are specific to straights and pretty much nothing for full house or lower that actually scales late game. Plus there are so many more ways to get fricked over when going for straights

It was unplayable. Just hope you have investment into pairs and jokers that favor 3 card plays. As well, if you have the stone joker, you can try to weasel out if enough rounds passed. I failed anyways.

Should I consciously keep upgrading my hands? Because I notice in lategame I tend to get rid of most of my Additive Jokers and replace most of them with Multiplicative Jokers outside of certain Jokers that have already scaled up mult a lot.

anyone beaten the purple stake yet? keeps repeatedly kicking my ass. almost won a run with blue deck, but the violet vessel (huge endgame blind) fricked me at the finish line.
worse yet is my ancient joker (get X1.5 mult for randomly selected suits played) switched to spades which i had like 5 in my deck total versus my 20 or so diamonds and hearts, and i couldnt find anything good in the shop to replace it.
is purple stake doable? the round scores scale up so high that it seems you almost never get to even rig the run let alone win with an honest build.
I don't get why every rougelike released in the past 5 years had to have this shitty difficulty system where you just slowly unlock 1 small debuff at a time until suddenly you're totally held by the balls and need the perfect run to accomplish anything. I get not every game can be like isaac with the 30 different challenge routes, but surely they could do something nore creative than this
Its honestly a smart difficulty system, because one of those difficulties will be right for you, assuming the difficulty curve is actually good and goes from anyone can beat it to only good seasoned players can beat it. Or you can just play the lowest one and go endless to see how far you can go
I know fricking nothing about poker and it was all really easy to figure out. Got 400k+ hands. Most likely youll just feel moronic every now and then for not getting the most optimized combo you could have.
unironically, it reminds me of Godhand. purely due the fact that it gives you limit options,but infinite amount of possibilities based upon your creativity and the cards that you secure. everything can bought, sold and changed to best suit your run, but don't let that fool you into thinking that your luck won't run out.
Why would you need flush or straight?
Get the jokers that either gives you chips or mult, so even a high card gives you way more points than a flush or straight.
Just beat my first run. Used blue deck, focused a lot on using two pair/full house to combo with the trouser pants. I got super lucky with getting a joker that duplicates the effects of another joker to it's right, so I scaled up hard towards the end game.
Just making sure, right before the final ante boss, there's no reason to save your money right? I should just blow it all on rerolling stuff to get upgraded as possible right?
check twice that your ante is 8/8 and check your run info to confirm that the boss blind is next, then use ALL of your money you have available on rerolls ect if you arent planning on going endless this run. this is totally safe to do unless you have something like the bull card that benefits from the amount of money you have.

I've gotten to the ante 10 big blind wall a couple of times now and can't really fathom getting past that ante realistically. Even shit like guaranteed lvl 14 flushes every hand with 1.5x multi on every joker wasn't enough to break through that.
You need some big boys. There's a legendary joker that adds +1X multi for every destroyed face card, so you can easily burn through 12+ cards in a flush deck, and then the clone joker can easily get you X100 multi scores for 2 jokers.

it doesnt sound that bad when you remember that the jokers just have to be in your inventory in the final fight, not for the whole run. having to carry the egg joker through the entire run just to never sell it, would be ball bustingly infuriating. i would assume the best course of action is to just reroll the last shop and replace like one or two jokers with the ones you need. negative jokers would also help heaps
I hate how straight flush, royal flush, flush house etc count as a different hand type
though it would be overpowered if the lesser planet cards contributed in that way (e.g. flush house gets all your flush and all your full house upgrades)

I think that the best steel card is one you can justify holding so that you can play it at the end. For example, say your deck is enriched in hearts and also in jacks. You can throw the steel card down on the jack of hearts.
if you have like ten of one rank, i would just make that rank into a steel card because more than likely you can afford to hold one.

You get one less hand each round. Which not only makes you more vulnerable and more likely to lose. It also means you get less money after each victory. And money is kind of important to the Black Deck, because the only strength the black deck has is the higher Joker limit. But the Jokers still need to be bought. Which is something the Black Deck sucks at.
Yeah, it’s ultimately a cheap price to pay if you can avoid the worst general run-frickers (Arm) or anything that counters your deck in particular with it. Jesus frick I hate The Arm, every time I get it I either lose to it or if I survive it, the run becomes a pathetic limp forward that will fail in ante or two.

Hol up, I have an interesting question I'm faced with. I'm at the final boss where it asks me to sell a joker. In the shop before the boss I can buy a joker that says "when blind is selected, gain 3 hands and lose all discards". I don't understand what it means exactly, but if I buy this card, start the boss and then sell it, does that mean I start with 8 hands and no discards? Or does the boss deactivate joker effects like this?
It should trigger the effect before you're forced to sell, since selecting the blind happens before the boss effect trigger. But can't say I tried it before.

the way the boss works is it just debuffs your whole deck until you sell a joker, so you can just sell a start-of-round joker after it activates.
How much is 5 of a kind flush worth? My five of a kind is currently at level 10 and does 435x39 at base. I'm afraid that if I get too many hearts it's gonna give me a flush five and give me something much weaker than that.

It's worth it IMO, structurally it's the exact same as the demo (there's no story mode or anything like that) but there's a lot more variety.

You make poker hands, there's various items that increase the scaling applied to the points you score, and there's "bosses" that add restrictions

You build poker hands with a standard deck of playing cards to score points to beat a "blind" (round). Each blind gets progressively harder, with a boss every three blinds. Beating a blind gives you money which you can spend between rounds to buy cards for upgrades. Jokers are global buffs, planet cards increase the score for specific hands, tarot cards have a bunch of effects which generally modify cards in your deck, and much more. The ultimate goal is to beat 8 bosses. Doing so counts as a win but you can keep playing endlessly after that or start a new run.

It's like poker with guns
It's a solitaire/singleplayer poker game where you need to make hands of up to 5 cards busted enough to beat the target number of points each round.
You get money at the end of each round to spend on modifiers that make playing certain hands stronger, or to improve individual cards.
Each "Ante" is a set of 3 rounds, the third being a boss round that fricks you over in some way. You win once you beat Ante8, but you are offered to take your deck into an endless mode of insanely ramping difficulty.
You can skip rounds (But not the boss) to gain free bonuses at the cost of not getting the money from that round (And many strategies are encouraged to play as many rounds as possible for scaling)
TLDR;
its a deckbuilder roguelike that is as pure to that theme as possible instead of being tacked onto other genres. There is no psuedo rpg bullshit here, its just classic card games.

Just play straights and get multiplier multipliers while having at least one joker that gives a multi to whatever you play. Even if you cant play a straight you get a lot of points and can use your hands as last moment discards. 400k easily.

Should I consciously keep upgrading my hands? Because I notice in lategame I tend to get rid of most of my Additive Jokers and replace most of them with Multiplicative Jokers outside of certain Jokers that have already scaled up mult a lot.
Once you hit a satisfying ceiling above what you need to hit for the next 5 or so rounds you just invest in every other hand or your cards.

I tried to do a run with the joker that buffs the first hand you discard, I got pair up to level 30 by the end. Worked pretty well.
anyone beaten the purple stake yet? keeps repeatedly kicking my ass. almost won a run with blue deck, but the violet vessel (huge endgame blind) fricked me at the finish line.
worse yet is my ancient joker (get X1.5 mult for randomly selected suits played) switched to spades which i had like 5 in my deck total versus my 20 or so diamonds and hearts, and i couldnt find anything good in the shop to replace it.
is purple stake doable? the round scores scale up so high that it seems you almost never get to even rig the run let alone win with an honest build.

Just beat my first run. Used blue deck, focused a lot on using two pair/full house to combo with the trouser pants. I got super lucky with getting a joker that duplicates the effects of another joker to it's right, so I scaled up hard towards the end game.

there's an unlock for reaching ante 12, not sure about any others.
check twice that your ante is 8/8 and check your run info to confirm that the boss blind is next, then use ALL of your money you have available on rerolls ect if you arent planning on going endless this run. this is totally safe to do unless you have something like the bull card that benefits from the amount of money you have.

I've gotten to the ante 10 big blind wall a couple of times now and can't really fathom getting past that ante realistically. Even shit like guaranteed lvl 14 flushes every hand with 1.5x multi on every joker wasn't enough to break through that.
You need some big boys. There's a legendary joker that adds +1X multi for every destroyed face card, so you can easily burn through 12+ cards in a flush deck, and then the clone joker can easily get you X100 multi scores for 2 jokers.
I think only the three secret hands + glass cards is viable after ante 10, I assume new strategies/synergies will develop over time though
the answer is the plasma deck with buffing chip cards to insane levels like bull etc and combining that with multiplicative cards

it doesnt sound that bad when you remember that the jokers just have to be in your inventory in the final fight, not for the whole run. having to carry the egg joker through the entire run just to never sell it, would be ball bustingly infuriating. i would assume the best course of action is to just reroll the last shop and replace like one or two jokers with the ones you need. negative jokers would also help heaps

I think that the best steel card is one you can justify holding so that you can play it at the end. For example, say your deck is enriched in hearts and also in jacks. You can throw the steel card down on the jack of hearts.
if you have like ten of one rank, i would just make that rank into a steel card because more than likely you can afford to hold one.

You get one less hand each round. Which not only makes you more vulnerable and more likely to lose. It also means you get less money after each victory. And money is kind of important to the Black Deck, because the only strength the black deck has is the higher Joker limit. But the Jokers still need to be bought. Which is something the Black Deck sucks at.

The chip deficit from straights with low (or especially mid) cards is completely irrelevant by late game.
By the late game the only relevant part is your jokers

My jacks 5 of a kind build is kind of insane, but I have just barely squeeked by so far against some tough bosses. I just need a little more luck in the shop to make it more fool proof
Give me strategies other than flush and pot of flowers, anons. I can't convince myself to try anything else other than rolling flushes every game.
Use spectrals and arcanes to force a moronicly huge stack of a couple of numbers and play for 2's/3's/4's.
Stack discards and go straights.
Flushing is almost only a relevant strategy with smeared joker I feel, it's too centralizing to it.

It's just easier to comprehend the approach to reaching the winning moves consisstently. With Nebula deck you just have to wish for planet packs because they alone are enough to keep you going while you spam tarrot packs.
Speaking of, is it necessary to always go for planets, or are most builds centered around jokers / deck manipulation?

an early spectral pack can immediately give you something fun to try with relatively little risk

In the shop before the boss I can buy a joker that says "when blind is selected, gain 3 hands and lose all discards". I don't understand what it means exactly, but if I buy this card, start the boss and then sell it, does that mean I start with 8 hands and no discards? Or does the boss deactivate joker effects like this?
It should trigger the effect before you're forced to sell, since selecting the blind happens before the boss effect trigger. But can't say I tried it before.
the way the boss works is it just debuffs your whole deck until you sell a joker, so you can just sell a start-of-round joker after it activates.
