It's Divinity in a Baldur's Gate skin. It's more of the same. Definitely not BG though. One thing I noticed about it is it ditches mechanical depth for a kind of NPC social element. In other words, it's an aRPG Lite for the Tik Tok generation. All that's missing is a magical pseudo Facebook mechanic, and it would be complete. They've already got the gaming equivalent of BLM in there. It's kind of fascinating to watch a company eat the carcass of an older franchise like this and shit out the remains. All that's missing is a charisma roll if you misgender an NPC. It's that kind of game.

You need Charisma, Strength and Con. Dex if you want to play a divine hunter or whatever, but then you dump strength. Its not that bad.

Not sure if you're implying 5e lacks mechanical depth (which is true I suppose depending on which edition you wax nostalgic for), or you're implying BG1 and 2 had more mechanical depth, which is objectively wrong.
It's really not a port of 5e. You straight up can't use reactions, and it looks like they're not even going to work in a system for it despite it being trivial to do.

the decision to not include reactions seems deliberate to improve 5E's awful flow of combat when translated to a video game. Asking after EVERY SINGLE ENEMY ACTION if you'd like to use your reaction gets really tedious in Solasta.

They really need to make a proper implementation of reactions before monk and paladin get in, stunning strike and divine smite simply won't work with what they have in place.
They've taken the trouble to record over 90 voicelines for vicious mockery but you still cant choose to hold an inspiration die for a concentration save.
Smite can work, crit fishing was dumb anyways so getting rid of it is fine. It will work 100% the same as superiority die, if you hit it takes a spell slot. If it misses, it doesn't. It'll have its own icon on the bar.
If Cutting Words couldn't get a reaction overhaul, nothing will. Wait for Counterspell to be pre-casted too "Next spell this creature casts fails to cast" or maybe it makes them cast on themselves.

Sure, but I've got personal problems with the rules of 5e in general. Some make things easier and that's fine, but I really hate the whole pandering to the largest audience with "all adventurers are heroes!". They effectively removed a lot of choice and all adventurers at level 1 are way above combat veterans now by comparison. So as a DM you have to scale things like guards up because the default starting adventurers are demi gods with actual god-given powers who would shred any mortal to pieces from the get go. They've also got rid of a lot of customization, like they removed over three dozen of classes versus 3.5e. So your choices are now playing a Chaotiv Evil Paladin casting Smite, True Neutral Paladin casting Smite or a Lawful Good Paladin casting Smite. There's a reason why a lot of people went towards Pathfinder after 5e turned to Munchkin without the PvP.

There's notable points in CR where suddenly everythings immune to charm so the wizard can't just hypnotic pattern and win a fight.

As you are an anointed paladin blessed by the gods are attacking it, this fiend is no longer bound by divine pact with the gods and can act in self defense. If you can beat it you might be able to get it to do what it was bound for anyway, but if you can't we'll roll you a new character. Roll for initiative hero. As far as I'm aware, the official oaths are:

Only redemption and devotion really stress being "good". All the others have either a lot of wiggle room (i.e. you could be a lawful evil vengeance paladin) or you can just be a straight-up bad.
Kind of reminds me of the way Pillars of Eternity did Paladins. Some of them like the Kind Wayfarers were very much standard paladin affair while you had then ones like the Bleak Walkers, who refuse to ever show quarter or back down. Kind of like a nuclear option where once the target finds out the bleak walkers are coming they usually run because they know there's no stopping them.
Bleak Walkers whole thing was to try and make people not want to engage in war so much by showing just how brutal it could get. They'll also ignore their employer if they want them to stop.

He does. He's not all "coo you're so cute!" but in some camp dialogue he's pretty nice to her. One example an anon mentioned before is he says Hal should be hanged for helping cultists but when Ember does it he only tells her that not everyone deserves her kindness.

They both say something like that. Daeran is during a scripted interaction and Regil is during a camp banter.
Hal should be hanged for helping cultists instead of using his great powers to help actual victims of all the suffering they have wrought. Ember is already doing her part, so Regill is naturally a bit more fine with it.
Hal is also just a terrible introduction to Golden Dragons because when you actually become one, you're nowhere near as much of a moralgay as he was.
Cam's a crazy b***h so whatever she says doesn't have much weight to it, as for Ember she tends to be the one bullying Seelah more often than not

Seelah is a mess of a character because clearly the idea of her quest is pushing her to be more lawful or more good and either stops travelling, becomes a good leader and forms a knight order or stays le wandering knight helping literal who's, but most of the time she doesn't act lawful at all.
At least it's fun to shit on her. She actually does end up being a bit more lawful as a result too. Endings though all suck, wish you can push her into being a Asmodeus worshiping hellknight.
She's still a iconic so they were never going to do anything drastic like that.
She's pretty standard for how paladins act, that shits always been at odds with how Lawful is presented.
Its why moving it to Oaths and steering it away from alignment works so much better.

The only reason I think Regill is worse is because with Ember you can make her more lawful or even break her completely while you never get anything like that with Regill. It always feels like he HAS to be right in some way.

Don't forget he convinced his order building a outpost at a strategic location then giving it up to the enemy all so they could test the new commander was a good idea.
He does have good moments (like when the demon attempts to trick him with his desires but he has none, or taking the fall so the hellknights continue trusting you) but he does a lot of stupid shit that just feels unnecessarily cruel, when I thought the whole point of Hellknights was more just being pragmatic.

You could make evil paladins in 4E
You swear yourself to a divine oath. An oath is basically a set of morals/beliefs that you hold yourself to, and in turn gain divine power to enforce them. For example, the oath of devotion is all about being virtuous and seeking justice above all else. If you make decisions that go against your oath, you risk breaking it and losing your ability to be a paladin. Oaths don't really have anything to do with gods, beyond the fact that some gods will share the ideals of some oaths (a righteous paladin would be inclined to worship a righteous deity, for examples).
In your example of helping the thieves: it's not that you'd dedicate yourself to their cause and gain power from it, it's that your decision-making in if you even help them or not would be guided by your oath. Maybe you wouldn't want to help thieves commit a crime, or maybe you help them with the intent of bringing them to justice on the other side.

Channel undead can be insanely good when it applies, but if it doesn't you can still channel divinity for an effect based on your domain and that can potentially be really strong.
Given you're high level enough you can for example blow up every vampire in bhodi's lair instantly. Even bodhi herself if you're playing solo.
You'd usually use the channel divinity option available to your subclass instead and they're on the same resource.
Vengeance paladin designates a creature and has advantage on attacks against them.
Devotion gets a lightsaber and adds cha to attack rolls.
Light clerics can do a dbz solar flare.
The alignments still exist, anon is exaggerating. There's even still a spot for it on a 5e character sheet.
