both PoE games are worse. both pathfinder games are worse. and bg3 was bad only starting act 3
You have no ability to discern writing quality. BG3 is bad from the first 3 minutes and only gets worse from there. Yes, worse than PoE. Not sure about pathfinder but nothing I've seen looks as utterly moronic as bg3.

It was mid. I liked the dead three plot twist but the chosen were all shit with poor screentime.

Apparently from a combination of data mining, and inferences and deduction, at some point late in development they radically changed the origin plot and cut a ton of stuff. Not sure why. I think they needed a few more months in the oven at a minimum, shoulda been a Christmas game

I suspect they ran out of time for QA and excised a large portion of act 3 rather than release it broken.

It's not top tier in terms of writing but it's on par with most Bioware games and the first two Baldur's Gates. People don't come to this game for an Avellone type masterpiece, it's just a fun fantasy adventure.
BG3's writing is far from "merely serviceable", it's actively terrible and immersion-breaking. I'd rank it far below the first games, can't really comment on Bioware as the last game of theirs I played was DA:O and I barely remember it.
That said, I'm having fun with BG3, but that's in spite of the writing and plot.

Viconia's and Sarevok's character arcs were basically thrown in the trash and were just made pure evil, Sarevok is just in some random fricking cave in the sewers with the most basic ass boss fight. Hell, Lae'zel's and Astarion's characters almost the same as Viconia's was.

i think the thing is that the higher the production values of a game, the more egregious a bad plot is.
It needs to appeal to the LCD to make a profit. Cannot do anything thqt can potentially be seen as problematic, as seen with how larian gutted the daisy plot line and replacing it with an objectively worse and more stupid one because it was too rapey. WotC probably interfered creatively as well.
