To be honest, they are kind of like elves and humans but worse. Half Elves basically get the same kind of weapon proficiencies as humans, but none of the cool elf ones. They also get some elf benefits, like the Half High Elf variant gets a list of cantrips to pick from. The Half Wood Elf variant gets the free stealth proficiency with a slight movement speed boost. And the Half Drow gets the Dancing Lights cantrip plus Faerie Fire and Darkness at level 3. Between all three of them, Half Drow is honestly the best from a gameplay and roleplaying standpoint. It has the most reactivity from npcs and Faerie Fire and Darkness are both very good spells.

It looks like the Female Half Elf face number 1, but with makeup and freckles. A lot of the female Half Elf faces need some modification, like this was what I did with one of them. Looks way better with freckles.

The official explanation is that no joke, the designer responsible for this decision says most people tend to make similar looking characters in most games, so eschewing sliders was partly due to that. It was also to supposedly make it easier to give a ton of NPCs faces, very fast. I get maybe if it was animations or something, but they didn't touch on that.
The multiplayer thing: this isn't something they have said, but multiplayer sessions take forever to start because people spend way too much time in the character creator. Now imagine that with face sliders.
I personally think it's bullshit that they don't even have a feature selection thing, so you can make little tweaks. It's frustrating in a lot of ways.

This is my main and first character, Sorc/Paladin in act 3. I've started like 4 more that haven't made it out of act 1 because I'm a chronic restarter.
Shadowheart dumped me when she found out I was fricking Lae'zel. She wasn't mad but said she didn't want to share and didn't give me a chance to pick her so I had to reload a save and dump Lae'zel before that point in the story.

Sorta? There's not all that many options. The most offensive part about the gear is how most of it doesn't match any kind of armor. Lots of gold shit on weapons when you have more traditionally colored armor.
There's some very cool designs but the problem is that it's extremely difficult to find matching pieces sometimes. I got some badass plate armor in act 2 but unfortunately I couldn't ever find a pair of boots that didn't clash horribly with it. In act 3 I found a really cool new set of armor but the vendor that sold it to me didn't have the matching gauntlets so now there's a very obvious and grating mismatch that pisses me off whenever the game zooms in on my character.
Vendor selection is always shit when it comes to armor, unfortunately. Even dedicated armor vendors usually don't even have any boots, gloves or helmets so you're kinda fricked unless you want to look up specific item locations, and even that isn't much of an option right now since nobody knows where shit is yet.
Use dyes to mitigate this somewhat by the way. But yes most shit doesn't match on top of this

. Enjoy your glowing and/or bright gold bullshit against your silver or otherwise dark armor.
Bard/Warlock or Sorc/Paladin or Warlock/Paladin are all very good combos. Rogue/Fighter is also very good, especially since Fighter gets the most ability score increases out of any class. So starting a rogue, multiclass into a dexterity fighter is very good.
Barbarian seems better. Berserker gets advantage on every single attack and gets a second free attack with Frenzied Strain every turn.
Do Fighters get better later? I'm only LV 4.
I hate to say it but after another humongous fight that took 2 hours I jumped back on to Octopath Traveler 2 and immediately had more fun. The job system is interesting and watching the characters get jacked is very satisfying.

The fact that I just experienced the Gale weave scene and the fact that he literally disapproves when you shut down his homosexualry makes me so fricking upset. It's so jarring knowing that every male bonding encounter is gonna end with some gay shit.
genitals literally mean nothing. its just for your own preference. the only thing related to actual game effects is the gender selection at the top of character creation. you can pick a fully female body and be completely naked, but if you picked male for that, youre just a normal everyday straight man to the game.
Has anyone noticed negative effects if you let one of the Origin characters be the "face" if you are playing as Tav? Makes no sense for a Rogue to be entering combat straight up, I'm not a fricking Swashbuckler or Bounty Hunter, so much easier to let Lae'zel unga bunga her way into combat while my PC picks off the groups with ranged sneak attacks with explosive arrows.
Wasteland 3 I haven't played the others yet handles it really well, allows you to do dialogue checks based on your entire party's skills
It makes no sense for your leader to come across someone bleeding out and saying "shit I don't know anything about medicine, guess you'll die lol", it's much better when you have a high-tier medic in your party who can do the medical checks, or a high-tier crafter who can do checks based on that, etc.
Charisma/Intimidation/etc maybe makes a bit less sense but imo it's still a good system

I mean, it doesn't advertise that your race will change the game significantly. It mostly just means that characters will occasionally react to your race if it's unusual, sometimes in an unpleasant way, but it doesn't usually lock any content, and sometimes you get special racial dialogue options.
There's a fair bit for Drow in act 1 at least but I do wonder how much there is for even more obscure races that not many people would choose like Duergar and Deep Gnomes

I couldn't talk to animals so I had to fight an Owlbear and kill it. I looted an egg from its lair and the egg just looked like random cheap loot worth 20 gold in my inventory, no shiny outline or Key Item designation.
15 hours later I started a quest where an NPC wanted me to loot an egg from another race. I got a dialogue option of "Why not take this Owlbear egg instead?" followed by 2 speech checks as we had a whole conversation over this random piece of loot in my inventory.
Get talk to animals as soon as you can, it's fricking nuts how often you can use it. Speak to dead is okaaaaay but often they don't have much of interest to say.
do the animals suffer from millennial writing too? will it preach to me about social issues with a surface level of understanding, or start cursing every other word like the rest of my companions do?

I've made scale and long sword but my PC uses greatswords and tief blacksmith made me a set of hell-something armour. I like how it looks, but I like bonuses from the adamantine ones more since also my pally has +2 dex and I don't want to loose it by wearing heavy armor
I kind of regret making a Dragonborn Druid, the race doesn't really fit the druid aesthetics, but I don't want to switch to another class, shame that you can't switch races for your OC character like you could in DOS2.

Is there any reason not to multi class later on? I swear I get nothing but more spells leveling paladin and feels like I get all the good shit by level 4-6. Even my fighter gets literally nothing some levels other tham the obligatory feat.
Its based entirely on what class features you get. Generally its not like pathfinder where you can get 50 OP passives at level 1, but if your class doesn't get anything worthwhile after level 6 or whatever, then sure, multiclass into something else

I just got done pirating Baldurs Gate 3 and I got the update for it already. I seeded 25% of the game my self to others who are downloading the game too. Of which there are currently nearly a thousand. I never did pay to be a beta tester for this game. And since I detest playing games like this online with other people. I never will.
I'm going to give this game a try. And if it's shit. I'll know exactly why it's shit. I've put in many many hours into Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II. I know what this series was. I will be judging. If for some reason I love this game. I'll buy it.

Giving away the grove's location breaks your oath even if you plan on betraying her later, the game just doesn't realize your intentions I guess.

People don’t know how to use them yet. Tavern brawler and great weapon fighting are amazing. Tavern brawler barb can deal good damage by picking up and throwing dead enemies. And it’s so unique, generally you don’t see that in an RPG. GWF gives you an extra attack on crit. In a game with guaranteed crits that’s amazing. My paladin with extra attack, extra attack on crit from GWF, guaranteed crit from the tadpole, haste from my sorc, and smites on each attack is a face melting machine

To be honest, they are kind of like elves and humans but worse. Half Elves basically get the same kind of weapon proficiencies as humans, but none of the cool elf ones. They also get some elf benefits, like the Half High Elf variant gets a list of cantrips to pick from. The Half Wood Elf variant gets the free stealth proficiency with a slight movement speed boost. And the Half Drow gets the Dancing Lights cantrip plus Faerie Fire and Darkness at level 3. Between all three of them, Half Drow is honestly the best from a gameplay and roleplaying standpoint. It has the most reactivity from npcs and Faerie Fire and Darkness are both very good spells.

12 total levels so you can only go Rogue 3, Ranger 9 and will miss out on the last 3 Ranger level up bonuses that Rangers get at lvls 10-12.
Rest is pretty simple, you don't lose any of the first class's skills or spells or anything really, the second class just builds on top of it.

The official explanation is that no joke, the designer responsible for this decision says most people tend to make similar looking characters in most games, so eschewing sliders was partly due to that. It was also to supposedly make it easier to give a ton of NPCs faces, very fast. I get maybe if it was animations or something, but they didn't touch on that.
The multiplayer thing: this isn't something they have said, but multiplayer sessions take forever to start because people spend way too much time in the character creator. Now imagine that with face sliders.
I personally think it's bullshit that they don't even have a feature selection thing, so you can make little tweaks. It's frustrating in a lot of ways.

Sorta? There's not all that many options. The most offensive part about the gear is how most of it doesn't match any kind of armor. Lots of gold shit on weapons when you have more traditionally colored armor.
There's some very cool designs but the problem is that it's extremely difficult to find matching pieces sometimes. I got some badass plate armor in act 2 but unfortunately I couldn't ever find a pair of boots that didn't clash horribly with it. In act 3 I found a really cool new set of armor but the vendor that sold it to me didn't have the matching gauntlets so now there's a very obvious and grating mismatch that pisses me off whenever the game zooms in on my character.
Vendor selection is always shit when it comes to armor, unfortunately. Even dedicated armor vendors usually don't even have any boots, gloves or helmets so you're kinda fricked unless you want to look up specific item locations, and even that isn't much of an option right now since nobody knows where shit is yet.
Use dyes to mitigate this somewhat by the way. But yes most shit doesn't match on top of this

Bard/Warlock or Sorc/Paladin or Warlock/Paladin are all very good combos. Rogue/Fighter is also very good, especially since Fighter gets the most ability score increases out of any class. So starting a rogue, multiclass into a dexterity fighter is very good.

genitals literally mean nothing. its just for your own preference. the only thing related to actual game effects is the gender selection at the top of character creation. you can pick a fully female body and be completely naked, but if you picked male for that, youre just a normal everyday straight man to the game.
Has anyone noticed negative effects if you let one of the Origin characters be the "face" if you are playing as Tav? Makes no sense for a Rogue to be entering combat straight up, I'm not a fricking Swashbuckler or Bounty Hunter, so much easier to let Lae'zel unga bunga her way into combat while my PC picks off the groups with ranged sneak attacks with explosive arrows.
Rogues usually get first turn and dodge fricking everything so I don't think you would have any issue being the "head" of the party.
Wasteland 3 I haven't played the others yet handles it really well, allows you to do dialogue checks based on your entire party's skills
It makes no sense for your leader to come across someone bleeding out and saying "shit I don't know anything about medicine, guess you'll die lol", it's much better when you have a high-tier medic in your party who can do the medical checks, or a high-tier crafter who can do checks based on that, etc.
Charisma/Intimidation/etc maybe makes a bit less sense but imo it's still a good system

I'd say 3 levels of rogue and the rest in fighter should be decent if you're going for that, most of the power of rogue is in their cunning actions and once you have 2d6 sneak attack it's already plenty
you still have advantage by attacking from invisibility, which is what duergars do generally

Choices have consequences, they're not earth shattering but they're there.
I mean, it doesn't advertise that your race will change the game significantly. It mostly just means that characters will occasionally react to your race if it's unusual, sometimes in an unpleasant way, but it doesn't usually lock any content, and sometimes you get special racial dialogue options.
There's a fair bit for Drow in act 1 at least but I do wonder how much there is for even more obscure races that not many people would choose like Duergar and Deep Gnomes
It feels like the most "choices matter" game ever made and it doesn't handhold you at all.
I couldn't talk to animals so I had to fight an Owlbear and kill it. I looted an egg from its lair and the egg just looked like random cheap loot worth 20 gold in my inventory, no shiny outline or Key Item designation.
15 hours later I started a quest where an NPC wanted me to loot an egg from another race. I got a dialogue option of "Why not take this Owlbear egg instead?" followed by 2 speech checks as we had a whole conversation over this random piece of loot in my inventory.
Get talk to animals as soon as you can, it's fricking nuts how often you can use it. Speak to dead is okaaaaay but often they don't have much of interest to say.

I've made scale and long sword but my PC uses greatswords and tief blacksmith made me a set of hell-something armour. I like how it looks, but I like bonuses from the adamantine ones more since also my pally has +2 dex and I don't want to loose it by wearing heavy armor

Mods are made as the audience grows and people request/patron them, I doubt the game had 800,000 players during early access.
I kind of regret making a Dragonborn Druid, the race doesn't really fit the druid aesthetics, but I don't want to switch to another class, shame that you can't switch races for your OC character like you could in DOS2.

Depends on the class. I think paladins taper off after getting extra attack so they're a good candidate for multiclassing

Its based entirely on what class features you get. Generally its not like pathfinder where you can get 50 OP passives at level 1, but if your class doesn't get anything worthwhile after level 6 or whatever, then sure, multiclass into something else

The feat ignore resistance, the monster has resistance.
If you are talking about the ochre jellies, those are straight up immune to lightning damage.

I just got done pirating Baldurs Gate 3 and I got the update for it already. I seeded 25% of the game my self to others who are downloading the game too. Of which there are currently nearly a thousand. I never did pay to be a beta tester for this game. And since I detest playing games like this online with other people. I never will.
I'm going to give this game a try. And if it's shit. I'll know exactly why it's shit. I've put in many many hours into Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II. I know what this series was. I will be judging. If for some reason I love this game. I'll buy it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt this way. Feels really shit just taking bonus attribute points every time but nothing else seems even remotely worthwhile. Who the frick is gonna take something as dogshit as -3 physical damage while wearing heavy armor when even act 2 enemies are capable of hitting for 20-30 damage in one blow sometimes?

People don’t know how to use them yet. Tavern brawler and great weapon fighting are amazing. Tavern brawler barb can deal good damage by picking up and throwing dead enemies. And it’s so unique, generally you don’t see that in an RPG. GWF gives you an extra attack on crit. In a game with guaranteed crits that’s amazing. My paladin with extra attack, extra attack on crit from GWF, guaranteed crit from the tadpole, haste from my sorc, and smites on each attack is a face melting machine
