BALDUR'S GATE 3 SURPASSES PALWORLD ON STEAM

So why has BG3, a several-month old rpg, had such better player retention than Palworld, an rpg that came out only a month ago?

Palworld will probably stabilize at a low 5 digit/high 4 digit population of dedicated players still coping that they won't be abandoned.

Baldur's Gate 3 is unironically gonna go down as one of the games of the decade that's why. It's a generational game like Dark Souls, Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye, Skyrim, Super Mario etc. that developers and gamers will look upon fondly and draw inspiration from it for decades

BG3 is literally a talking simulator. 90% of the game is talking to npcs., for 200 hours mind you. I have no idea why this game got so popular, in a time when gamers are getting sick of movie games.

It's less that BG3 is good and more that 5e is dog shit so their adaptions genuinely make it better to play. If they add Tasha's stuff as DLC it will objectively be superior to pen and paper 5e

For starters Palworld literally has no content. There's nothing to build up to, there's no PVP, no trading no mon personalisation nothing.
Then there's the fact that the majority of people who purchased Palworld did so purely to spite pokemon. They don't have any interest in monster tamers whatsoever.

Larian has been known to pay for bots (likely provided by tencent). It's simply not logical/possible for it to retain so many "players" after this many months. Remember that it only has about 60 hours of content and there's literally nothing else to do after.
Palworld's numbers are also not organic but they don't have the backing of tencent to provide bots for that long.

    Baldur's Gate 3 is a masterpiece.
Its one of those rare games that i immeditately started a 2nd run after i finished it, and to my surprise the 2nd run is just as fun as the first.

This happened to me only few times and i have been gaming for near 30 years.

    Doom
    Dark Souls
    Deus Ex
    VTMB
    Hitman Blood Money
    BG3
    New Vegas

Those are one of the few games that i even enjoyed more on my 2nd run than my 1st run.

This is becuase the gameplay is fun, and the game design was immaculate that it can keep you coming back for more and make you enjoy it again in the same way, when the rpg mechanics are good they can offer fun varied experiences and when the gameplay is fun you cant complain even if the game is long like BG3.

One recent example is Elden Ring a game i really loved in my 1st run, i was excited to do the 2nd run because i found many weapons that i couldnt use and i wanted to try the game again, sadly after few hours in my 2nd run i began to lose interest and instead of actually playing the game, all i ended up doing is rush bosses to test how gud i became, when i killed the final boss i turned it off and never played it again, im planning to buy the dlc soon i hope i will be able to dish a new run now after 1.5 years.
ER unlike DS was too big for its own good, and its not new or innovative so it got stale quicker.

Dark Souls 1 was unique and new at the time for me, i even did 5 total runs of it.
BG3 is one of the rare big games that on my 2nd run i did everything, 100% two times because 90% of the things in this game can be done in multiple ways making replaying it a refreshing experience. oh and the combat is one of the best turn based system out there, i can do a 1 hour battle without getting bored.

      >Its one of those rare games that i immeditately started a 2nd run after i finished it, and to my surprise the 2nd run is just as fun as the first.
You haven't played many good games if a game hasn't encouraged you enough to do multiple runs of it.

        Anonymous

        >You haven't played many good games if a game hasn't encouraged you enough to do multiple runs of it.

No, i did, i usually dont like to replay games if i can simply play another good game, but rare exception is when the game is very very good it makes me do a 2nd run and even better when the 2nd run is more enjoyable than the first.
plenty of good games can be fun only for the first time, games that are carried by mystery, puzzle solving, story or few fun gimmicks in a long game that lose their appeal on replays.

        >what is this marketing speak bullshit
thats my opinion. i dont care what "fans" say their opinions mean shit to me.
but even going by your made up post its still wrong because i also happen to know tons of crpg fans who agree with everything i said, numbers and youtube channels back up my claim.
Mortismal gaming one of the niche youtubers who cover the genre, played all crpg, recently ranked it 1, played it 11 times and he said its one of his most enjoyable games period.

Persona 5 is mediocre compared to a game like this, i finished P5 once and i never played it again, so boring, so tedious, so much filler, so much reptition, no depth, no tactics, its just a good art style with a nice background music.

afterwards i went to try persona 4 golden, same thing but a little bit better cause it takes itself less serious.
then i tried persona 3 and its easily the worst one, slightly better story but awful gameplay.

      Anonymous

what is this marketing speak bullshit, tons of actual crpg fans were talking about how dull this game is and how all its choices pretty much lead to nothing. BG3 is the Persona 5 of wrpgs does nothing better than its predecessors but because of marketing its treated like some sacred cow.

Palworld is a game you put your 30 hours into, get your enjoyment, and then are done with it until they add more content. Why are you comparing it to a 200+ hours mega campaign RPG? Many people that started playing BG3 at launch still haven't even beaten it.
You can use very simple math or common sense to understand why the player numbers look like this.

This is how you identify when a game is FOTM. If it loses 90-95% in 1 month, it's not worth it. The specific numbers don't matter, what matters is the % they lost. The numbers just indicate how mainstream it was. Palworld was very normie tier + FOTM.
Just look at Among Us, it only lost 30% in 1 month.
