To be fair, Bodhi being Irenicus' sister was a last minute change in order to produce someone who could take Imoen's soul. Until very late into development she was supposed to die in the Prologue, which would fit the overall theme of the game being revenge - Jaheira lost her husband; Minsc lost his witch/quest; CHARNAME lost his childhood friend... see the pattern?
In general, if you dig into the various old interviews and articles, the main plot of BGII is a stitched together monstrosity of gutted content.
Unfortunately, ToB's main story is mostly the same.
But that stitched together monstrosity is one of the most beloved and iconic CRPG story, so all those edits have been retroactively proven decent at least no?
Seems to be more and more popular generally these days. I figure it is only a matter of time before we start seeing wrpg with fake-incest love interests.
>It's Forgotten Realms. Elves enter the Fugi plane and are judged by Kelemvor like the rest.
Thats open up to interpretation.
Modern FR shat all over a bunch of things because many modern writers at WOTC cant be arsed to properly research their materials.
Elves not having souls like
>souls
Elves do not have souls. That's AD&D canon.
is not entirely correct but its not wrong either. They way closer connected to their deities.
The real issue is that in AD&D thanks to she-who-will-not-be-named taking over TSR the lore became kind of a mess and so many lore titbits that were sprinkled throughout issues of the Dragon-Magazine werent included or forgotten.
Planescape and Spelljammer added to the confusion hpow the Crystal Spheres or the Multiverse works.
Take the Wall of the Faithless for example:
It went from >Myrkul made it because hes a dick and atheists in FR make no sense
over >Ao made it and its the barrier that prevents the Upper and Lower plains from simply walking into Mordor so its a necessary evil
to >Myrkul made it but Kelemvor keeps it around just because.
Same with the Petitioners. Elves did not go past go and did not collect 200$ but went straight to the Elven Afterlife if dying violently otherwise they could technically stay around forever and just fade into the Afterlife whenever they wanted.
Other Petitioners also went straight to their Chosen Deity's domain and that was it.
The only people who ended up being in the Nine Hell/City of Dis as petitioners were souls which were either atheists, believers who somehow pissed of their gods or believers that didn't believe hard enough.
Who then had a chance to either convince a messenger of a deity to let them in, try to sign up with the Upper Planes (very rare), try to sign up in the lower planes (less rare) or end up being judged by the god of death.
So unless its retconned Kelemvor quite literally only judges the scraps that no one else wanted and you have to be the most insufferable fedora-tipping mongoloid to end up in the wall.

Isn't it retconned that Elves are barred from afterlife in Arvandor, because their troony god Corellon doesn't give a frick about them and hates them for not wanting to be genderfluid like him, so now they just immediately reincarnate?

If its something from 4th or 5th Edition then I wouldnt know, sorry.
FR-Lore was always kinda hit & miss but with 4E and 5E it just completely down the shitter that I stopped caring since it makes the changes Lorraine Williams approved of since 86 look competent.

Yup, which was explain in Dieties & Demigods as them having Spirits instead, which operate differently.
If Irenicus did this then he would have seen the pointlessness of his quest for revenge and just kept banging his vampire sister. He might have even apologised to charname.
I just did the test of selfishness, it took Korgan, killed him and I just revived him afterwards. Am I missing something? It made it seem like this was supposed to be permanent and the wiki is full of cheese to avoid it.
>You've permanently lost 10 HP and 1 dex
that's the good side. I reloaded after realizing I lost a stat point and went through the evil side with no consequence.
You've permanently lost 10 HP and 1 dex but dorfbro is worth it.

Looks like the best way from the wiki is do it solo and pick up your party after. I don't really consider that cheese since it was scripted to summon a peasant in that case.
It'll change your alignment to evil and you miss out on getting some magic resistance.
This can be significant in some cases while being completely irrelevant in others.

What always stuck out to me tho is how many BG1 modders have a seething hatred for Khalid but maybe thats because they are trying to cope somehow with his Off-screen death in BG2 or justify why Jaheira is fine with moving onto CHARNAME only a few weeks/minths after her Husband's death.
Yes, oh omnipresent authority figure?
Jesus Christ if you are posting someones interpretation of a BG character at least dont post digital korean wow fantasy trash.
>Her face looks flat and creepy.
Draw a better one then.
One would think that someone who posts a mongolian-mmo-aberration would have some understanding of stylization.
Then again, you do sound like a zoomer.
>What always stuck out to me tho is how many BG1 modders have a seething hatred for Khalid
Theyre just following in the footsteps of that weird novelization of BG that was written while watching late night porn
Anon, what are you talking about. Multiple characters have vastly different portraits between the two games. Jaheira might as well be a different person. As Viconia. And Imoen.
Other than Minsc and Edwin, it's obvious the developers didn't have a clear look in mind for the various party members.
I have decided to try it but I have already a fully modded installation with EET + BG1 and BG2 unfinished business + Ascension + SCS + cd tweaks and I am currently halfway through the BG1 portion. You think it is safe to just install it on top of that all or should I reinstall the whole thing. I might do it for some sweet imouto fakecest but would prefer not to.
Also is version 4.1.0 the last available version or should I look elsewhere?
I want to romance Aerie but I haven't heard any romance dialogue from her or any of the romanceable characters in my party in a while. Did I frick something up or is this normal? I'm on Chapter 4.
Both mages and clerics have low level spells that will give everyone in an area immunity to fear, cavaliers get it as a special ability. The basic bard song also helps protect against and remove panic but they'll be unable to do anything else while singing.
Ew. Non Specialist mage. low dex. non maxed int. 15 con. There is a lot wrong with this from a power gaming perspective. You'll be fine though - Mage's are great.
Or roleplay you got smacked so many times for dicking around it perminately damaged your brain and you cant remember too well but just roll with it and dont sperg out talking to people appearing more charismatic
Playing through from the start is usually a better idea but you can jump straight to ToB and it will start you off appropriately leveled with some decent gear.
This set would have been cool if it had been made by someone who actually cares about Baldur's Gate and if it came out ten years ago before Magic became terrible.
>I am the proprietor and seer of the month several years in a row; the ladies call me "Oh, god!", but you can call me Fat Alaundo with a F-A-T 'cause I know I got a weight problem and I just don't give a frick.
Avariel base height is 4'5 and weight is 60 lbs. Aerie is clearly taller than all the midgets like Mazzy and Korgan so she's probably 4'11 to 5'2. She'd be light because of her hollow bones.

I always wondered how a male MC could even get her pregnant. He'd probably snap her in half.

Actually bhaalspawn has a small dick. Aerie does not mind as she could not take bigger anyway, Jaheira knows it's natural for dicks to be in different sizes and Viconia is used to have foot long so she's a roastie anyway.
I have no idea what the frick I'm doing in this game beyond dying to a swarm of kobolds shooting arrows at me. They really want you to work for those level ups, huh?
In the early game you're made of tissue paper and everything kills you in 1-2 hits, so you typically end up giving everyone a bow and kiting enemies around if you don't want to rely entirely on RNG.
It's part of the reason why BG1 sucks so much compared to BG2.
Imagine not playing a human male fighter in plate mail with sword & board.
Actually bhaalspawn has a small dick. Aerie does not mind as she could not take bigger anyway, Jaheira knows it's natural for dicks to be in different sizes and Viconia is used to have foot long so she's a roastie anyway.
That totally explains Viconia's contemptible farmer-fricking behavior.
Probably shouldn't have specc'd into all swords this early on, then. At the moment, I've been trying to drag enemies to choke points and corners that protect my party from arrows. My MC still gets BTFO by archers, though.
It's called "Enhanced Edition" and needs to be toggled in the Baldur.lua file
Holy shit. I had no idea this was a thing and it's made me treat fireball and such as impossibly dangerous bombs that I never use. This changes everything.
It's not so bad, most adventuring parties don't have the power of savescumming on their side so lich can dispose of them well before they get anywhere near him.
Jesus Christ, I suck at this game. I'm stuck because this Mulahey homosexual keeps swarming my party with skeletons and kobolds, and apparently none of my fricking party members can deal with this or his constant Hold Person spam.
Level 1. I currently have Imoen, Brawhen, druid lady whose name I can't spell, and a really talkative wild mage girl.
Yeah I remember him being a b***h to deal with.
So look, here's what you need to do. Have your party wait in the other room and have your tank run up to pull him into the hallway before he speaks with you. He'll be isolated from all the skeletons and you'll be able to rush him down before he can do anything. You also won't have your entire party surrounded when the fight starts.
My current save has my entire party in that room with an X. I try to use the druid's entangle to prevent the skeletons and druids from entering the room, but it keeps getting members of my own team caught while letting the guy blast us with Hold Person. Even when i focus the guy with everything we have, he usually survives long enough for the skeletons to swarm us since skellies are immune to sleep (from what I could tell).
I did all of my chores, at least. I'll just reload a previous save and do some other quests. I managed to get through the dungeon by using sleep, corners to break line of sight, and a frickload of saving and reloading.
Look around in the Friendly Arm and the taverns of Beregost and Nashkell. There are a couple quests meant for beginners. And you will run into a few fights. They should push you close to level 3. You can rush through the main quest of BG1 very quickly if all you are doing is following the plot points.
BG1 is meant to be explored. The iron crisis is no more urgent to an inexperienced CHARNAME than the gnoll fortress.
>Imoen >Branwen >Jaheira >Neera
I would drop Neera and recruit Minsc in Nashkell. He'll have you go to a gnoll fortress to rescue a wizard lady. A wild mage sounds strong, but having to reload just because of a wild surge is no fun in BG1. Oh and...she's so talkactive because she is one of the Beamdog NPCs. Don't use them on your first playthrough, as they are more in line with BG2 NPCs.

I'll go back and recruit Minsc and the wizard lady again. I was mostly using Neera for the extra sleep since my guy only has one cast of it. I've heard that there was also a neat Drow close by, right? Is she worth it?

You should go back to beregost and recruit Kagain because your party is sorely lacking someone who can take a hit.

Whatever sounds cool. You get to take up to 5 companions to make up for whatever shortcomings your main character has.
Just try to minmax those ability scores a little and don't play a monk.
High dex (18)
High con (16 for casters, 18 for martials)
High Strength for martials
High Int for Wizards
Everything else is whatever, as
Whatever sounds cool. You get to take up to 5 companions to make up for whatever shortcomings your main character has.

said, pick what sounds good to you. Avoid monk and beastmaster, kensai too, at least for a first timer.
Anything is viable, really.
Not Baldurs gate, but since I reckon most of you have played it, and I do not think it warrants it s own thread, I have a question about ToEE, Can I res party members in the church as in BG or do I have to get a scroll somewhere?
Is Siege of Dragonspear worth playing? Or should I jump to BG2? I'll play it if it's short and I can kill Amber Scott's cringey OCs but maybe it's better to just skip it.
Not worth playing if its your first time playing BG. In fact it'll probably confuse the frick out of you because lots of stuff sort of assumes you already know what happens in BG2 (and it then conflicts with the canon of BG1 and 2 anyway). Basically treat it as a mediocre fan mod. It ultimately feels more like an IWD game that gets awkwardly stuffed into a BG2 mold.
>paying for spells
Look at this loser.
Everyone knows that it's cheaper to buy a handful of thieving potion and use them to steal the entire inventory of every store.
Question to anons who've played BG3 early access: is there cute witch-like gear? I'm considering playing a female spellcaster if I can RP a witch.
With that said, Fighter fit the adventurous mood of the first 2 games better and I'm equally tempted to recreate my halfling character from my playthrough of those.
does anyone have an explanation of how you deal with dual classing? getting to level 9 kensai/9 mage before my kensai abilities work again sounds incredibly rough.
>getting to level 9 kensai/9 mage before my kensai abilities work again sounds incredibly rough.
It is. Hence why many people will opt for a pretty early dual or avoid doing it entirely and just stick to single or multi classes.
You can scribe scrolls for pretty easy xp. Just buy a bunch from shops and then have a mage learn and unlearn them repeatedly.
For some BG2 quests, the same xp is given to each party member regardless of party size but most xp is split between party members so temporarily removing people from your party can speed things up too. Leaving the party will break the Jaheira romance though (and maybe some other companion related stuff?) so be careful.
Alternatively, just lean on your party members for a few levels until you catch up. The first few levels go pretty quickly just playing normally in BG2 and then you can sort of contribute to fights.
>does anyone have an explanation of how you deal with dual classing? getting to level 9 kensai/9 mage before my kensai abilities work again sounds incredibly rough.
Keep in mind that it takes the same amount of XP to go from fighter 9->fighter 10 as it takes to go from mage 1->mage 10. It's really not that bad. You'll level really quickly and a pure mage is still good in the meantime with low level spells.
>9 fighter levels >ridiculously high hp
What's the issue? It's not like you're as squishy as a 1st level mage. Let your party carry you through a couple quests.
Imoen, Jaheira, and Aerie are enough to handle the entire game on their own.
All the nu-rpgs like Pillars and pathfinder are a thing.
t. don't even really like FR. It's only appealing in retrospect when comparing it to modern bs
This maybe controversial but I'd suggest playing the enhanced edition with the Beamdog npcs removed and Sword Coast Stratagems installed.
IF you really really want party banters in the first game, Npcproject is "better" than nothing but I'd advise against it.
You don't really have to go out of your way to mod the game, you can just choose to ignore them. The companions themselves are pretty unlikable if you ask me but they aren't too in your face besides one introduction event.
It's a mixed bag really. Most of it isn't that bad and if nothing else it's good that there is an enhanced edition at all to draw more attention to the franchise, but it's still soured by the stuff that IS that bad.
And generally, their companions just aren't very enjoyable. I'll be the first to admit that the original game also had some companions that weren't very enjoyable, but it sticks out a lot more with the EE because it's new, and it's only natural that a new addition will come under more scrutiny than something that's always been there.
You don't really have to go out of your way to mod the game, you can just choose to ignore them. The companions themselves are pretty unlikable if you ask me but they aren't too in your face besides one introduction event.
Is Beamdog stuff really that bad?
You forget about the most jarring part - they're voice recordings are completely "off" compared to the vanilla ones, and have this ever-present echo of a madly mixed sound booth recording.
Go through entire trilogy (BG1-BG2-ToB) as god intended. Enhanced editions are fine, once you install a mod that removes the Beamdog additions, because the new companions are just awful. Other than that, you might try Unfinished Business mod for both BG1 and BG2 (restored content), Ascension for BG2 (expands on Throne of Bhaal story and makes the expansion more challenging) and BG1NPC Project for BG1 (adds a lot of content to BG 1 companions who are otherwise rather lacking - recommended if you want more story out of your game, but if you want a 100% accuracy to the vanilla BG1, you might skip it).Don't bother with SoD.
Thank you for reading my blog, if you have any in-depth questions, ask away.
i guess the only question i have is how hard is the game really, i don't really have much patience for quick-save - quick-load stuff anymore unless the game world REALLY captivates me
Depends how much you know your stuff. On early levels a single casting of horor, chaos or hold person can wreck your shit if you fail your saves or you lack defenses.
It CAN be difficult, because low-level D&D is no fricking joke and on Core difficulty some savescumming will be necessary, because sometimes the dice rolls will just frick you over, but it all depends on how familliar you are with the game and how well you can game the game to your advantage.
i really have no idea about anything in the game, i don't even know what classes there are, so just some pointers to make the start as painless as possible would be greatly appreciated
First and formost - BG 1 is a low-level D&D adventure, with a lot of dice rolls. Which means your character can and will be one-shotted by a random wolf at level 1. Don't attack everything you see unless you are 100% sure you can take it. Try playing some simple, martial class first. Paladins are fun, so are the rangers. Fighters are also good, but boring, because you essentially autoclick yourself to victory. Don't fall for the mage meme, that's an advanced class that may frick you over if you don't know what you are doing. During character creation remember to max out the primary stats of your character - Strength and constitution for fighter and ranger, intelligence for mage, dexterity for a thief and so on. A character with a total roll of 90 is considered very good. It might take you some rerolls.
Balanced party - two martials, thief, cleric, off-cleric, mage is key. Don't even think about playing without a thief (you need them for trap disarming), mage (crowd control) and a cleric (buffs and healing) in your party. Explore as much as you can and do every sidequest you can.
And say hi to Tarnesh for me. Hint: keep in mind that mage's spellcasting can be disrupted by landing a succesful hit on him. Wand of Magic Missiles is an item that you get at the beginning of the game that launches an instahit magical missile at the opponent. I hope you know when I am going with this.
Are you planning to play with mods or no? And what version are you playing?
Do not recruit the following NPCs then:
Dorn
Neera
Raheed (the monk dude)
and should you find him, Baeloth
Those are the Beamdog NPCs. For your first time, play without them.

That, or you can simply mod them out.

Eh, playing with neera means you get to reload whenever she effectively kills your party by fricking up a spell or destroys your party's gold. Also her voice actress+dialogue is awful.
Rasaad is the most likeable person of the beamshits, but has the worst class+kit combo in the entire game, literally.
Dorn is a gay black man.
If you can, wear a helmet. Also make sure you understand terms like THAC0 and how AC works in this game. It's based on AD&D 2nd edition, if you are familiar with that.
For armor class: Lower is better.
Char gen: Non fighters have no reason to take more than 16 con. Dex is good on anybody
Questing: Talk to anybody with a name. Hold tab to see all names and lootable objects
Summon undead to deal with basilisks. Until you find magical weapons, keep a few spares on your dudes. Don't be afraid to use those buff potions.
Yeeeeah. Level 15 should be mid-game. You are near the end. You should be around 10 levels higher.
How the hell did you do that? Were you ignoring every sidequest there was?
I did a frick ton of side quests and then got into the whole chain of events from Irenicus dungeon at spellhold and everything after that and the underdark. All areas had a sense of urgency to them and there weren't a lot of quests in some of the temporary hubs so I just went with it.
Guess I'll just use this chance and go explore and do quests I missed.
I guess the best time for sidequesting are Chapters 2-3 and then 6 after you get back from Underdark. You can also do Watcher's Keep to quickly gain 2-3 levels.
Thanks man. It's a good thing I asked because I was sure I was fairly alright level wise since I did manage most encounters up until now. The black dragon in the Elf city made me realize I wasn't strong enough yet for this encounter.
In Baldurs Gate 1 the first half of the game is full of quests and the latter half had less I think so that's what might have tipped me off in the first place.
Now some of the sidequests are actually a breeze because I neglected them.
>The black dragon in the Elf city made me realize I wasn't strong enough yet for this encounter.
I mean, Irenicus' black dragon is bullshit anyway on the basis of being a black dragon and there is a reason this fight is skippable. Although,he's nowhere near as bad as Firkraag.

Yeah, resistance in general started feeling hard to push this chapter. I did manage to kill the rest of the mobs but I don't know what Irenicus plans to me in the final battle so I won't risk it.
Can't decide what to do with Valygar. On one hand Stalkers supposedly have a kickass backstab bonus but on the other I want a bow guy.
Anonymous
Honestly? Don't bother that much with Valygar. And bow guys aren't even that good at this stage in BG2. Replace him with Keldorn or just use him as an off-tank. You'll be needing a free companion slot for a best fighter in the game once you get to ToB anyway.

I kept him because I like him but I'll give Keldorn a shot.
>but I don't know what Irenicus plans to me in the final battle so I won't risk it.
I am just going to say this. The final fight is BRUTAL. You might want keep doing sidequests until at least one of your mages has access to Lvl 9 spells and Timestop.
That's good to know, thanks. In general I'm not rushing to finish the game since I'm really enjoying myself I just got carried away with the story.
Would be nice if the game had more tension drops in that regard.

Well, Chapters 2-3 are the designated tension drops, being essentially a semi-sandbox. "Gather 50k to save Imoen" is essentially a shorthand for "do as many sidequests as you can".

If you want an archer then Mazzy is good. She comes with grand mastery in shortbows and plenty of dexterity to make her even more lethal with them.
Give her the tugian bow and she's a machinegun.

I mean yeah and I did every quest I could stumble upon during that part (Though I would argue that Imoen being tortured is a pretty big reason to rush things).
Like, I'd put another stop after Spellhold. Irenicus would be recovering from the events of Spellhold to buy the player time to do quests after rescuing Imoen.

I actually wonder - what is your current party? And who is your waifu?

I've got Minsc, Imoen, Jaheira, Aerie and Valygar. Pretty generic party I guess but I liked this party in the first game only I had Khalid and Dynaheir.
Aerie is my waifu here. She's sometimes a bit annoying but it was the most straight forward romance I felt, and I didn't feel like missing out on romances entirely.

That's a pretty OK party. And Aerie is deceptively strong.
I actually like her romance, it's pretty straightforward, compared to the minefield that is Jaheira's romance. The only downside is that she doesn't have that much content. I've heard that Wings mod fleshes Aerie quite a bit.

>Aerie is deceptively strong
I wouldn't call mage-priest "deceptively " strong when it is one of strongest possible combinations in a game where stats are mostly pointless due to stat setting items.
what ar you favorite mild cheese tactics? I use a scroll of protection from magic on enemy mages for the lulz. Watching Irenicus fail at life until he comes running at me with his bare fists is too funny.
Humans are fun for a single-class playthough. Non-humans are good for the easy multiclassing.
Also it depends on who you want to romance later on in BG2. Overall, either go with human or a half-elf.
Different races have different class options available to them.
If you want to be a paladin or monk(don't play a monk) then you have no choice but picking human. If you want to multiclass then you have no choice but a non-human.
The latter. BG doesn't have *that* much roleplaying compared to let's say Fallout or later Obsidian titles. It's just you deciding if you are a good or a bad guy. Make a character that's fun to play.
ToB kind of sucks. I'm glad I could play through watchers keep in SoA. Mellisan just isn't interesting and the high level combat feels like a chore when every trashmob mage can cast timestop and Fire Giants can oneshot you even with a ton of hp and AC.
picked up bg2ee on steam for cheap
just cleared Irenicus's dungeon and got the cheevo >19% of players
It's not a hard dungeon, what gives? This isn't like BG1 where you and Imoen get gangbanged by gibberlings as soon as you step into the woods until you learn how to kite
Should I get BG3 now, or wait for it to finally come out in full?
I'm in the mood for something new, I just hate the idea of paying full price for a EA game.
I'm pretty sure that the developers didn't program a chess engine into the game.
Try shutting off AI and having a party member peek forward 1 inch at a time from the corner of the screen until a pawn attacks. Rinse and repeat for all the pieces. I think they're all worth some amount of xp and have some loot. I also think if you kill the king they all die at once but you might not get xp or loot.
I don't know. If it were me playing I'd just rush forward and try to fight everyone at once.
>solo run
I wish the game facilitated that kind of choice more effectively.
Unfortunately there's no reactivity or changes whatsoever. You just end up missing out on a ton of content and being incredibly weak forcing you to use cheese tactics on everything.
In Icewind Dale at least there was no xp cap so you could play a fighter/thief/mage and reach level 30 in all classes which was an incentive even if it wasn't a great one.
I just finished my first solo run through entire saga. Non-EE, version from original CDs. Played Cleric/Mage, it was tons of fun. Chose evil alignment as it allows some amusing stuff with conrolling strong undead later in the game. The most difficult parts were Ducal Palace, final seal in Watcher's Keep and Ravager (ok, this one was boring, damaged him to serious wounds with spells, then kited and killed with sling, wanted to avoid Wish cheese).

>Unfortunately there's no reactivity or changes whatsoever
some dialogues are different, eg. before facing Irenicus >being incredibly weak
kek, that's exactly other way round.
>play with full party >hit XP cap at the very end of the game, unless you intentionally grind in Saradush or on respawning Derro Berserkers >play solo >hit XP cap before Spellhold
You show you never soloed, you're ridiculously overpowered and overleveled during majority of the game. You get high level spells earlier, you get HLAs earlier, you have absurdly powerful spells that scales damage with caster level. You are only weak at the beginning of the game, but that's the fun challenge part, right?
You can farm xp in Watcher's Keep too.
That area in the teleporter maze where a bunch of demons are waiting to talk to you respawns enemies after every rest that give something like 50-200k xp.
Besides, it's not like you need 9th level spells to destroy enemies. Most of the time all you have to do is cast secret word and breach to remove their spell protections then they melt.
>play with a full party >finish the game with 8m xp
The average 6 man party will end TOB on between 6 and 7 million XP. You can cheese and do things like pump CHARNAME to 1.25 mil before recruiting anyone but the average isn't even close to 8 mil.
If male dark elves in forgotten realms are smaller than females, does that mean Viconia's not completely loose yet? Or are they all packing heat relative to body size
>can't tell Imoen to frick off >can't pick an evil path in a quest
I will never play this game solo or role play an evil Bhaalspawn hungry for power. Bros...
>literally the first choice you get in the entire game is whether or not to tell Imoen to frick off
have a nice day. You've never even played the first minute of this game.
You convince her that being a bhaalspawn and turn into the slayer is a gift and she should pursue ultimate power.
Only thing stopping her from being the 10/10 ultimate best waifu ever is that there's a really awful ultimatum she gives about never having children which I'm 100% sure was just there to appease the anti-incest crowd.
>still didn't beat ToB
How did you guys get past the frickfest that is high level 3.5 combat? I got to the fire giant's lair before I quit
Maybe I should just swallow my pride and play on games journalist difficulty, idk
Spam mordenkainen's swords. They're immune to basically everything.
While the enemy is attacking them summon a deva to kill them. Devas do a lot of damage.
If enemies have spell protections up cast secret word followed by breach.
If enemies can't be tanked with mordenkainen's swords then have your wizard step forward and cast protection from magical weapons for 4 seconds of total invulnerability to weapon damage.
If all else fails you can use the nuclear options.
1. cast shapechange and improved haste before the fight, cast timestop at the start of the fight, change into a mindflayer/illithid, melee the enemy
2. instead of using shape change equip the staff of the magi, timestop and melee the enemy with the staff
3. timestop followed by improved alacrity and all of your damage spells
Have the party's wizards spam wish spell with 18 wisdom to constantly refresh your spells and do other stuff.
Bring a rogue in the party to spam traps that will kill any enemy in the game thus negating the ability to have fun with the difficult fights.
Fire giants are specifically bullshit because they have critical strike, which means they can't miss on attacks. There's no way to tank them except with things like stoneskin or protection from magical weapons. Also focus on killing them quickly with 10 APR and hopefully your own critical strike warriors.
>except with things like stoneskin or protection from magical weapons
Or Mordenkainen's sword. Almost no enemies in the game have the +4 weapons necessary to hit them.
Is there any way to save her in an unmodded game? I did some googling and it seems like she's bugged and game scripts will break even if you put a protection spell on her during her death scene, causing her to despawn randomly later...
Her early quest gives really nice xp, bag of holding before spellhold and a dagger +3 if you're maining daggers for some reason
Beamdog npcs tend to bribe you into doing their shit like that
Nothing new. Aerie is an elf mage/cleric multiclass, which is also an illegal combination.
Although Dorn being a horc blackguard spits in the eye of the halfling NOTPALADIN.
You can get them as soon as you want. There is a drow in one of the two woods. There is a cleric turned to stone and a very good wizzard is near the hamster.
Alright, I just did the tutorial, and I'm going to be doing my very first playthrough of BG1, no prior experience with DnD or CRPGs in general. Now the game difficulty suggested that people like me play on normal, but should I try core rules instead? I'm going to play cleric, and seeing that characters can't die in normal mode feels like I'm missing out on an aspect of my character.
Also, speaking of cleric, what are the stats besides Wisdom that I should keep high? I'm not too worried about minmaxing but I just want to know what you would like to have in general as that class so I can get an understanding of what I'm looking for.
Normal is okay for a first timer but you can always bump it up later if you're feeling confident.
You'll want high dex, con and enough strength to not be a little b***h. Optimal would be
Str 18 (optional, have at least 15)
Dex 18
Con 16 (anything above that doesn't really matter)
wisdom only gets you some bonus spells which are nice but nothing game changing.
Cool, so Cleric is more of a melee type thing in DnD then? What's the real difference between it and Paladin, I always thought Cleric was more of a caster type thing, aka a white mage.
Paladins, being fighter types, do fight better after first level. Clerics have slower THAC0 progression and get priest spells right away. Paladins only get a few spells and only at high levels (levels which you cannot get to at all in unmodded BG).
different classes use different xp values for levels. First BG (with expansion or just ee) you'll hit level 8-10. Cleric for example will be lvl 8 at the max while rogue will hit lvl 10 > I assume expansions let you go higher?
No, level 7 is the cap for divine magic. In BG1 you'll only go up to level 4
You can play on core, but tick the box in the menu that gives you max hp when leveling. Also, save before you scribe spells with your party mage. It is chance based (calculated with int and wis, I believe).
Bump up Spot Traps and Open Locks on your rogue. Every party member should have one ranged weapon. Keep spare weapons on your fighters until you can get them magical ones.
After you have done the first big quest of BG1, explore new areas you enter fully. Oh and always move to the edges of the map and try to travel out. That is how you uncover new regions to explore.
Clerics are a very versatile class. You can play them as support casters, as damage casters or as front liners. For your MC I suggest you look into multiclassing into fighter/cleric. But a pure cleric is a perfectly fine choice.
If you meet Neera, Dorn or Rasaad, ignore them at least in your first playthrough. And don't play Siege of Dragonspear. You should go straight to BG2. You can come back to your BG1 save later if you really want to.
very good tips for a newbie, I forgot about the max hp when leveling especially

Hello guys.
Is there a separate mod that increases the speed of movement outside of combat?
I know it's in the Tweak Anthology, but you'll have to spend a couple of hours there until you get to it.
You want to dual class once you hit a specific milestone. Keep in mind the higher level you go for, the longer it will take to get that class back.
For Fighter the usual break points are 7 (gets an extra half apr), 9 (gets an extra proficiency point and hp gain is slower after this point) or 13 (gets another half apr).
I'm less sure on thieves. 9 and 13 would be decent break points as that's when your backstab multiplier is raised but really any point where you have enough points in the thief skills you're after is a reasonable dual point. You can do the maths on that, just keep in mind that they gain levels much faster than other classes so don't go too high.
Class kits may have other levels that you may want to dual at, for example swashbucklers can't backstab but get a bonus to AC, THAC0 and damage every 5 levels so dualing at level 10 wouldn't be a bad move.
speaking of, what is your guys opinion regarding the various thief kits (and Stalker Ranger, since it's sorta thief)?
They all feel so interesting but somewhat lacking
Bounty hunter is pretty cool. The special trap can be thrown at enemies and has some nice utility while not really missing out on any thief utility. A direct upgrade from base thief IMO.
Assassin is fun but also frustrating. The poison is nice but got nerfed in EE and a 7x backstab with the staff of the ram will kill or seriously damage basically everything if it lands but you only get there in ToB when most of the big threats are immune to backstabs anyway. They also don't get enough skill points to be the party thief for at the very least BG1 if not the whole trilogy and running a party with two thieves is not really an optimal situation.
Swashbuckler exists for players who are too lazy to use backstabs. They're not terrible but I'd rather use a fighter/thief and do pretty much everything a swashbuckler can do plus more. It might be a good option for a low level dual where your backstabs aren't that significant anyway.
Shadowdancers seem pretty broken but I don't have much experience with them. I don't have much else to say.
Stalkers are amazing but not terrible. Like the swashbuckler, I'm not sure they compare all that well to a fighter/thief who can play a similar role while also dealing with locks and traps and having a higher maximum backstab multiplier. Unlike the swashbuckler, stalkers have some pretty good spells to buff them beyond the abilities of a fighter/thief in standup fight but they're not meant to be your main tank anyway.
Stalker is legitimately pretty good since they can act somewhat as a fighter/thief/cleric (a multi that doesn't exist) with the powerful low level divine buffs, OK backstab, fighter-level APR/THAC0 and using Critical Strike before they land a backstab to double it. The only drawback is not getting traps.
The stalker isn't by any means a bad class, it's just not exceptional in any way. The main drawback as I see it as that though it's kind of a fighter/thief/cleric, it lacks the ability to wear heavy armor like a fighter, deal with locks and traps like a thief (along with all the other thief skills) and lacks a lot of the good divine spells of a cleric and so doesn't fill any of those individual roles very well at all. If I want a jack-of-all-trades companion to fill the sixth slot in my party I'd rather take haerdalis instead of valygar.

By late SoA and ToB (especially with SCS) AC is kind of irrelevant and you'd rather have armor of faith to tank with, which makes them in the 2nd highest tier of tanking class behind complete invulnerability that dwarven defenders and barbarians can get.
It's also really easy to cover find traps with Imoen/Nalia/Jan, in fact it's practically required if you are playing SCS because you need multiple mages in your party and all the mages other than Edwin and Aerie in BG2 have thieving abilities.
Not saying it's the best class, but it puts the thief kits to shame. It's pretty much objectively the best backstabbing class late SoA due to higher THAC0/APR/Damage and the fact that critical strike turns their x4 backstab into an x8 (also unmissable) which puts the Assassin class to shame.
All thief kits pretty much just suck ass compared to a multiclass like fighter/thief, thief/mage or thief/cleric. This is because thief really needs another class to be powerful but dualling sucks because thieves also want Use Any Item and (if you're fine with being cheesy) their HLA traps. And the Assassination ability basically demands that you be a fighter/thief and get 10 APR to use it well.
The only exception is shadowdancer but they also lose a lot, so only use them if you really want to be microing that stealth button every round for the whole game.
1. Immediately summon a Planetar to distract her
2. Cast Improved Alacrity
3. Cast Spellstrike
4. Cast Breach
5. Cast Remove Magic with all of your 3rd level spell slots
6. Cast Pierce Shield
7. Spam Horrid Wilting
For party members
Wizards: Cast Improved Alacrity then spam Horrid Wilting
Frontliners: Stand next to the planetar and be ready to take hits in case it dies.
Clerics: Same as frontliners, but stand a single step behind them and be ready to cast heal if someone needs it.
Aerie: Prepare a 3 x Bolt of Glory spell trigger beforehand, use it immediately after improved alacrity, then recast spell trigger, create a new 3 x Bolt of Glory Spell Trigger, cast it, and only then start spamming Horrid Wilting
Aerie can't solo this encounter as easily as she can Demogorgon but she can do a huge chunk of damage. However many Horrid Wiltings get through should be enough to kill Melly.
I don't believe it is, but the SOA portion of it is well done considering it's a romance mod
Do the mods actually account for having a harem?
Both de'arnise mod and imoen should have banter with the base romances but i'm pretty sure it's impossible to actually romance them all at the same time
There should be some compatibility mod or some shit to get banter between imoen and nalia but i can't recall the name
Last time I checked (years ago), Inoen's romance mod had content only for the BG2 portion of the game and it used some pretty terrible custom bgm. Is this still true?
I'm currently doing a Bhaalspawn party members only run and wouldn't mind installing it if it was updated.
It got picked up by someone who cleansed it of most of the bad shit and finished the TOB portion last year or so, easily the best bg2 romance mod

You think the rewrite and fixes to the Imoen Romance mod was years ago now, but yeah it is actually great. Shame it is saddled with the same name as the horrible first Imoen romance mod.
There is some EE mod for a gnome girl that wants Charname to have a harem, witch checks to account for almost every other romance, including mod added ones, so you can romance them all.
I don’t have EE so I don’t know how well it works in practice, just one of the mods I noticed on the list when I was looking at the options for the Big World Project guide regarding getting mods to play nicely together.

>Played the new patch recently and got up to the part where I saved the camp from the Goblins >Decide to spend the night with Lae'zal. >The screen goes to an UNDER CONSTRUCTION page with some moaning, intimidation checks, cinematic skips, and dialogue.
Brehs, the rumors were true, the mad lads are going to add sex scenes into the game.
The only game I ever played before with the AC stat was EverQuest Project 1999. Fairly recently. I played a Dwarf Warrior. AC was the most important stat for me. Loved the game, made it to Level 35. I don't want to play MMO's anymore and now I've been lurking and gathering all the good CRPGs to try sometime soon. Right now I'm playing Morrowind. Which feels like a CRPG mechanically, but is immersive because of first person and third person views. Quite the adventure. CRPGs look dope as frick though.
Unless I’m remembering you ncorrectly You need your mages to open the casters up before you can even get to that point, and once you are there the caster is good as dead anyway.
Protip: dropping the spellcaster to 0 hp gives them an immediate 100% spellcasting failure rate.
>breeze through BG1 due to being a pure fighter and having berserk which makes you immune to most forms of control >get a frickton of hp due to fighter's d10 per level and full con bonus >unlock your fighter levels almost instantly by stealing and scribing every scroll sold in Athkatla
Now you have a class with a ton of hp, crit immunity (helmets) - not like you need it that much, see below, very good thac0 which will only fall off in late ToB, grandmastery in your chosen weapon (better make sure to pick something op like flails or katanas), oh shit button that still makes you immune to most forms of control including imprisonment AND a full arsenal of arcane spells, providing you with unparalleled offensive and defensive power. You don't need armor anymore - AC is very good in BG1 but starts falling off in BG2 and becomes pretty much irrelevant in ToB. Magic defenses are superior because instead of dodging blows sometimes you're just not taking any damage because you have mirror images and stoneskin (and can cast PfMW in a pinch) AND you can protect all your defenses and buffs like improved haste from dispel with spell immunity: abjuration. You don't get Fighter HLAs, but pure fighters need them a lot more than you, really only losing Critical Strike hurts somewhat, but mage HLAs are so powerful that you quickly get over your loss.
>One of the things EE has done right is the severe reduce in XP gain from locks, traps and scrolls
But only for BG1, in SoA it's still the same unless they've changed it in 2.6
It is pretty much the perfect easy mode for bgt and ee (kits didn’t exist in bg1 engine of course but bows were too god tier in bg1 to have made the berserker as good anyway).
For the early part of the game where I’ve hit or crit means life or death you get to play as a tanky, super easy fighter with amazing bonuses on top. Then when that drops off in bg2 you can painlessly switch to mage instead, by which time you know how the play with mages.
Not all drow women. Some just like handholding, long walks under the moonlight and cuddling in the forest. With wholesome missionary sex. And they make you breakfast in the morning.
I'm in this boat. I want to play 1 first but 2 is on sale (not on the road.) I don't want to play 2 before 1 because I want to try and take the lore and story seriously. Never played a CRPG I'm just pissed 1 isn't on sale. I have a bunch of CRPGs on my wishlist and randomly Baldur's Gate II is motherfricking $2.99.
How necessary is it to play some sort of Thief multiclass to solo BGEE? I'm tempted to play Cleric/Mage, Cleric/Thief or Fighter/Mage/Cleric but maybe traps will frick me up too much or my combat will be too shit with F/M/C
I'm pretty sure mirror image absorbs traps hits (same with stoneskin), so all you really need is immunity to whatever spells they cast at you. Also Cleric will allow you to cast find traps and see where they are and simply avoid stepping on a lot of them. If you want to do durlags tower it might be pretty bullshit but otherwise you should be ok.
F/M/C is fine in combat, multis are god in BG1 and early BG2 until the XP curve switches from exponential to linear.
Alright. Currently going with 91 total scores, 12 STR, 7 CHA and 18 everything else. Figured the familiar + Sleep/Command, two pips in Mace and some wands will get me through early combat without much issue since I'll get the gloves for 19 STR or use a spell/potion to get more if need be. 7 CHA seems enough that a Friends Spell + Nymph Cloak and Helm of the Noble will cover most charisma needs.
Is this a good enough setup or do I place my stats differently?
So I'm at Chapter 7 of BG2 and I feel like my party is under-leveled though I exhausted the majority of the quests I believe. Only quest I haven't finished in Athkatla is the one with the liches I think.
Should I do Watchers keep now? Grind? Just say frick it and face Irenicus?
That sounds roughly in line with where you should be in late SoA, little bit behind a full on completionist but not egregiously so considering you haven't done some of the optional stuff.
Well, the dragons give you frickton of XP (not enough to level you up, but still) abd some nice items. I assume you've done all the outdoorsy quests like Trademeet, Umar Hills, and the Planes with Haer'dalis? If so, what the hell, try your best with Irenicus. He's not that difficult if you have Cloak of Relection on you. And I hope to god you DO have the Cloak of Relection. Also, have a bunch of Protection from Evil spells ready. You gonna need those for a round two in Hell.
I see. Thanks for the tips, guess I'll do one last round of the map and then give it a go.
> assume you've done all the outdoorsy quests like Trademeet, Umar Hills, and the Planes with Haer'dalis
Yeah, except the quests after you save Trademeet with the two families. It sounded sketchy so I figured I should avoid it but I guess XP is XP.
In the end it's less about the level you are on (because really, Irenicus doesn't give a frick if Minsc is level 17 or 18) and more about the items and spells you have equipped, because that's a potential gamechanger. Unless you really want to keep levelling up your mages to get to that Level 9 spells and Timestop.

>Firkraag >Imoen and Aerie
Summon some cannon fodder for distraction. Open with Lower Resistance (he has 65% magic res, 2 casts should be enough), folowed with Doom (Aerie, multiple copies stored in sequencer) and Greater Malison (Imoen). Fire Chromatic Orbs, stored in another sequencer, and watch him die in an instant. I killed him solo this way with 15lvl Cleric/Mage.
Shit dude, that worked! Not quite like what you described because Imoen can't learn minor sequencer but hey if it works, it works.

True. I'm thinking I will benefit greatly from Timestop but otherwise I could probably also cheese a bit and win otherwise. Now that I killed Firkraag I'm a lot more confident.
>I could probably also cheese a bit and win otherwise
If you have Cloak of Reflection on, you can just cheese the entire first Irenicus fight easily. He won't be able to penetrate it and therefore damage you, so you just have to wait till his protection spells wear off and frick him up conventionally. It's the Hell level where things get fricky.

>TOB next I guess.
ToB has a pretty big difficulty spike, so you might want to do Watcher's Keep after you leave Saradush.
Nuwoke-lore added a bunch of cringy shit that everyone just ignores.
The nu Khelben Blackstaff is now an independent black womyn who is the youngest archmage in the realms evah because she is just so smurt and independent.
Was he always black...? I can seem to give any easily available depictions of him. The only ones I see showing him as black are recent but I don’t have the books to see if he was described differently.
5e writers have had a terrible habit of changing existing characters to be black and/or women instead of doing the reasonable thing and just introducing new characters. The new ravenloft book is filled with examples of this.
>Was he always black...?
No.
He also wasnt a wizard he was Oghmian Monk. No not the weaboo fistan magic monk.
YAY! Killallwhitemales!
>I stan
Why do these people talk like this?
Its also very telling that they made Faldorn younger and better-looking because that aint sexist at all.
Are people on twitter this stupid and tone-deaf, or is it some kind of shitpost account?
Because I refuse to believe this chick (?) is legit.
WOTC/Hasbro really really REALLY needs to positive ESG scores.
new on this, right?
>Astarion simping
No surprise at all from a terminal-twitter-troony.
>bane is a generic bishounen villain now
lol, lmao even
>Tieflings are oppressed
I mean they are literal demonspawn.
>The knowledge of Black men is powerful >the knowledge of fat people is powerful
This has to be a parody at this point.
>characters have to be as gay as possible
There goes the black demographic...
Marketing should have told the troony that Black folk hate homosexuals.
>Dynaheir >tribalist and sexualizing stereotypes
This dumb troon never even played BG didnt he?
Not only doesnt he know what "tribalism" means and is thus using the word wrong Dynaheir was from Rashemen which is a weird amalgamation of pre-russian empire russia and Scandinavia.
Dynaheir as a hathran being black didnt make a lick of of sense since the witches of Rashemen are known for taking explicitly rashemi children from their families to teach them.
Its also weird as frick that she is looks like Rhianna now.
>Oji the black troony
Sounds like Oji got already buckbroken then.
[...]
fragile
>fragile
I agree white liberals and Blacks are pretty fragile.
>He also wasnt a wizard he was Oghmian Monk. No not the weaboo fistan magic monk.
Not actually Oghmian, Aluando was a worshipper of Savras, god of diviners, accord to books going all the way back to 1993.
I almost corrected your spelling of weeaboo but then I remembered the “weaboo fightan magic” meme actually misspells it and you were being true to that. Hard to keep up sometimes.
>Its ok for me to sexualize male characters, but Dynaheir? Ugh.. Such a sexist and problematic depiction of black people
How do these people not realize their own hypocrisy?
I suppose she (?) has seen this artwork and lost her shit.
I still think this artwork of Dynaheir is an improvement.

Thats because your taste is just as shit and moronic as that of the habsro-troony.
Hathrans being all Blacks makes zero sense.
It just tells me that neither the troony nor this artist werent really told in detail what to draw.

That is not really hard to do, though, since everyone's portraits in BG1 looks like they could star in some sleazy low-budget porno, those really nasty ones where everyone looks like they have some sort of STD.
Because its more popular and its the only one zoomers had heard of even before BG3 by virtue of BG2 being extremely highly regarded as a game. WotC's interest is based purely on brand recognition and squeezing as much money out as possible, not the quality of the IP.
Played darkness over daggerford recently and it had an almost identical quest(you drop off a black dragon’s egg into a hut of some lizardmen chief). If anyone wants to play Baldur’s Gate 1 level comfy kino but with 3.0 rules i highly recommend this module
That is funny because Bhaal didn't actually force himself on any women. Thousands of cultists flocked to him for some of that god-seed.
I can't remember if it's canon or not, but I'm sure it was mentioned at some point later that CHARNAME's mother was one of those cultists.
She was but that wasn't decided upon until they were writing TOB. In BG1 it was canon Gorion was a cuck, retroactively he was lying to you instead and isn't a cuck.
I'd argue it's easier to tell someone you wouldn't want to take after their father "Your mom was raped by some evil dude" rather than "Your mom chased him down for some dick"
I'm on my first BG1 playthrough after doing BG2 like ten times, is the last fight supposed to be over the top difficult or am I just a moron? the rest of the game has had a few moments that felt janky and I've kited enemies for convenience that maybe were supposed to be learning moments I thought I didn't need, but I seriously don't see how it was supposed to be beatable by an average person back in 1998. did they change it? was the "spam summons and ranged fighters" meta in the manual? did whoever played this game on release just tryhard their way through it?
in case anyone gives a frick this is EE, on core, my party is imoen, minsc and dynaheir, khalid and jaheira, my main character is a relatively minmaxed berserker, and at around 80k xp, so about what I'd imagine a semi-serious person playing the game for the first time might have come up with

I had the exact same party, except I was a wizard when I first finished the game. I don't remember Sarevok being that brutal. What are your tactics? How do you use your spellcasters?
I remember cheating in drizzt to kill sarevok at the end but I was a kid at the time who barely understood d&d.
If you're anything like me, you should have a crap ton of potions and wands that you never used during the regular game. Well, no better time to use all that crap than now. Wand of monster summoning in particular is very useful for kiting/distracting.
>did whoever played this game on release just tryhard their way through it?
I didn't use summons back in the day, never liked them, but I did spot Arrows of Detonation in the shop and they did carry me through every hard encounter.
I quicksave all the time. Daggerfall, Morrowind and with these more difficult classic games on PC taught me to do so. It's so easy to quicksave with a push of a button on the keyboard.
The problem is, because I quicksave all the time, in the event that some bullshit happens that I don't expect (especially in BG1,) or a situation doesn't go at all how the game made me expect it to go, I will save scum and reload my quicksave. I don't feel so bad because BG1 is my first CRPG and the mechanics still elude me without having to research something about them up. But should I feel bad? Am I ruining the experience for myself? Honestly if I didn't save scum, my created character would be the only person in my Party still alive right now. So meh. Don't know how to feel. Wish I didn't have to but there is some more difficult dangerous bullshit that I'm not entirely used to in other types of games. But I love it because these difficult classic RPGs are the only types of video games that have been retaining my interest in the medium lately.
>But should I feel bad?
No. The games were designed with the idea that the players would quicksave and retry to get around situations in mind. There are numerous occasions where you can just instantly lose the game, and the magic system on top of potions and wands gives you a huge amount of tools that you can mix and match to get around whatever killed you. One of the original tool tips is 'quicksave often'.
I wouldn't recommend going so far as to quickload every time someone in your party dies, or to abuse quicksaving just to scout out an area, but if something wrecks you and it feels unfair you are supposed to load a save and think about what you are going to do about it.

Ao almighty Imoen, put some clothes on. You're my fricking stephalffoster sister. The thought of sexualising you makes me physically, mentally, emotionally and divinely ill.
The real prophecy was the Demogorgon we killed along the way.
So sarevok is bhaals friend???
BG fans love their incest.
Ahem
>9 year old game
Ahead of its time.
>fan art remembers bodhi is an elf
>official art doesn't
wotc doesn't deserve baldur's gate or D&D for that matter
She wasn't an elf, though. That was the Seldarine's punishment - along with their souls, they lost whatever made them elves, as well.
That was snobby elves not wanting to be associated with the two.
>souls
Elves do not have souls. That's AD&D canon.
It's Forgotten Realms. Elves enter the Fugi plane and are judged by Kelemvor like the rest. Unless they escape to Planescape.
>It's Forgotten Realms. Elves enter the Fugi plane and are judged by Kelemvor like the rest.
Thats open up to interpretation.
Modern FR shat all over a bunch of things because many modern writers at WOTC cant be arsed to properly research their materials.
Elves not having souls like
is not entirely correct but its not wrong either.
It went from
>Myrkul made it because hes a dick and atheists in FR make no sense
over
>Ao made it and its the barrier that prevents the Upper and Lower plains from simply walking into Mordor so its a necessary evil
to
>Myrkul made it but Kelemvor keeps it around just because.
>Elves did not go past go and did not collect 200$ but went straight to the Elven Afterlife if dying violently otherwise they could technically stay around forever and just fade into the Afterlife whenever they wanted.
It's 5e. The newest retcon. If you thought FR retcons were bad before, 5e pretty much nukes the whole FR lore with one book.
>Elves do not have souls. That's AD&D canon.
Yup, which was explain in Dieties & Demigods as them having Spirits instead, which operate differently.
If Irenicus did this then he would have seen the pointlessness of his quest for revenge and just kept banging his vampire sister. He might have even apologised to charname.
Bodhi is supposed to have a fat ass and thick thighs though.
Cringe art.
I just did the test of selfishness, it took Korgan, killed him and I just revived him afterwards. Am I missing something? It made it seem like this was supposed to be permanent and the wiki is full of cheese to avoid it.
You've permanently lost 10 HP and 1 dex but dorfbro is worth it.
>You've permanently lost 10 HP and 1 dex
that's the good side. I reloaded after realizing I lost a stat point and went through the evil side with no consequence.
Looks like the best way from the wiki is do it solo and pick up your party after. I don't really consider that cheese since it was scripted to summon a peasant in that case.
I like sacrificing a failed test Anomen and replacing him with Sarevok in ToB
That's fricked up, bro. Poor guy was just trying to get some.
It'll change your alignment to evil and you miss out on getting some magic resistance.
This can be significant in some cases while being completely irrelevant in others.
Your alignment is evil now if it wasn't before, grats
why does irenicus look so scuffed?
_ ____ __ ____ Bodhi.
>I want to kiss Bodhi
Romantic Encounters mod has got you covered.
>willingly reading some terrible red prose done by some autistic virgin from the internet
I think I will pass.
Isn't that every RPG romance when you get down to it?
I downloaded it once out of curiosity and while it is pretty bad I honestly thought whoever wrote the Bodhi scene did a decent job. Not any worse than any other video game writing.
I thought for years I imagined the Sahuagin area.
absolute drag of an area
The only reason to go to that place is to get rid of the fricking beholders. Frick those guys.
I always skip it nowadays. I don't need the impaler, wave, or cloak or mirroring that bad.
>I imagined the Sahuagin area.
we should all be so lucky, the quest is dumb and I ALWAYS kill every single last fricking Sahuagin once the quest is completed because frick sentient evil bipedal sharks
Tfw back on long shifts and can’t binge BG during the week
Holy shit the Underdark is a hard area. Enemies are often strong as frick and there's not a lot of breaks in tension.
I miss Athkatla.
Most of the equipment drops disintegrate in sunlight, too.
Who the frick wrote this cringe shit?
A modder. Some of the writing in the BG1 npc project is alright but Faldorn is terrible.
Yeah i don't get it, some of them are (imo) really good but this is just shit. I don't know if there were multiple writers.
There was it was a big group collaboration project.
Whats there not to get?
Lots of fan-writers to the quality is all over the place.
There is some exquisite cringe-core and there is some genuinely good shit in it.
Jesus Christ if you are posting someones interpretation of a BG character at least dont post digital korean wow fantasy trash.
That sketch is fricking awful. Her face looks flat and creepy.
>Her face looks flat and creepy.
Draw a better one then.
One would think that someone who posts a mongolian-mmo-aberration would have some understanding of stylization.
Then again, you do sound like a zoomer.
I'm not the guy who poasted the image at
-- but it's 1000x better than that shitty flat-faced sketch you seem to think is good.
> B-but you're a z-zoomer!
lol
>not that guy buuuut

>someones interpretation of a BG character at least dont post digital korean wow fantasy trash
its the official art anon, sorry
Players that hate Khalid are usually insecure betas and don´t want to look into a mirror like that
>What always stuck out to me tho is how many BG1 modders have a seething hatred for Khalid
Theyre just following in the footsteps of that weird novelization of BG that was written while watching late night porn
Tiax cringing straight into the shadows.
>Tiax voluntarily refuses to rule all.
Yes, oh omnipresent authority figure?
Jaheira as a druid never made very much sense.
Of course not, she's a Fighter/Druid multiclass. Duh.
All the art from that module is like they described the characters to someone who had never played the games.
Anon, what are you talking about. Multiple characters have vastly different portraits between the two games. Jaheira might as well be a different person. As Viconia. And Imoen.
Other than Minsc and Edwin, it's obvious the developers didn't have a clear look in mind for the various party members.
To be fair, thanks to that, Dynaheir has been improved drastically. She's actually frickable now.
This ones a pretty cool interpetation of dynaheir
YJK
Any guide on how to install mods on Linux? The only one I could find was from 2017.
This shit always inconsistent. Pic related, Jaheira from Dungeon Mayhem
Shit is up for interpretation =/= shit is inconsistent
Imoen romance is an essential mod
Anyone who hasn't played it should give it a chance. The current version is genuinely one of the best BGII mods.
lol frick off, if there's a version that removes the annoying whiny dreams maybe
>Did I frick something up or is this normal?
Yes
Yes I fricked something up?
You had to. I'm playing right now and Aerie literally throws herself at you by chapter 3 I think lmao
I fixed it in EEkeeper, just changed AerieRomance from 3 to 2.
Nvm, I think I picked the wrong dialogue option, I'll just edit the save in EE
Fixed it
This isn't mass effect. It's pretty easy to fail the romance if you don't pick the (not always obvious) dialogue option.
How do I defend against Panic
Both mages and clerics have low level spells that will give everyone in an area immunity to fear, cavaliers get it as a special ability. The basic bard song also helps protect against and remove panic but they'll be unable to do anything else while singing.
Don't recruit pussies like Khalid
did I gimp myself?
Yes and no, it's nothing fatal, seriously does not really matter anyway if it's your first playthrough.
A little but not excessively. Mages are less reliant on ability scores than most other classes so a mediocre stat spread shouldn't ruin things.
Ew. Non Specialist mage. low dex. non maxed int. 15 con. There is a lot wrong with this from a power gaming perspective. You'll be fine though - Mage's are great.
Did you just take the first roll you got
Drop cha
Max int
Max dex
Or roleplay you got smacked so many times for dicking around it perminately damaged your brain and you cant remember too well but just roll with it and dont sperg out talking to people appearing more charismatic
Imma reroll addict myself though.....
>pure mage
Yes, but that will make the game more interesting than MC being able to win most fights solo.
>Khalid! It's 4pm, time for your dick flattening.

>Protag! It's time to save me from the test of selfishness!
>... Well, I always wanted to try being a fallen palladin. Not that bad compared to the alternative...

kys pedo
I've never got to play Throne of Bhaal. Can I start the game from the expansion start or do I need to play through the whole BG2?
You can and you can summon every recruitable NPC from the Fate Spirit. Don't expect much, though - it's fairly short.
Playing through from the start is usually a better idea but you can jump straight to ToB and it will start you off appropriately leveled with some decent gear.
Honestly i feel like youre pretty cucked on loot if you just start in ToB.
>So sayeth the wise Alaundo.
Respect his fat knowledge.
This set would have been cool if it had been made by someone who actually cares about Baldur's Gate and if it came out ten years ago before Magic became terrible.
and maybe if they left a single straight person in all of the forgotten realms, Edwina ain't got nothing on this shit
>I am the proprietor and seer of the month several years in a row; the ladies call me "Oh, god!", but you can call me Fat Alaundo with a F-A-T 'cause I know I got a weight problem and I just don't give a frick.
Is the skull meant to be that demilich? Seems out of place if so.
>Do you wanna tell me a story about trollops and plug tails, pleeeeaaase?
Just what the FRICK did she mean by this?
Imoen is kinky.
How tall is Imoen canonically?
I need to know this
>Height:5′Weight: 92 lbs.
What about Aerie?
Avariel base height is 4'5 and weight is 60 lbs. Aerie is clearly taller than all the midgets like Mazzy and Korgan so she's probably 4'11 to 5'2. She'd be light because of her hollow bones.
I always wondered how a male MC could even get her pregnant. He'd probably snap her in half.
Actually bhaalspawn has a small dick. Aerie does not mind as she could not take bigger anyway, Jaheira knows it's natural for dicks to be in different sizes and Viconia is used to have foot long so she's a roastie anyway.
very easy to pick up and carry around
IMAGINE
>My hotel's as clean as an elven arse
i've still never played the enhanced editions because i actually enjoy the unmodded bg1 experience

That totally explains Viconia's contemptible farmer-fricking behavior.
Probably shouldn't have specc'd into all swords this early on, then. At the moment, I've been trying to drag enemies to choke points and corners that protect my party from arrows. My MC still gets BTFO by archers, though.
Bro put on armor
But my spells...
just cast sleep on everything then
Guys, what's this magic radius mod called?
It's called "Enhanced Edition" and needs to be toggled in the Baldur.lua file
Thank you, found it. I didn't know about that option.
Holy shit. I had no idea this was a thing and it's made me treat fireball and such as impossibly dangerous bombs that I never use. This changes everything.
must suck to be a lich in D&D with all the instakill undead magic weapons lying around the forgotten realms.
It's not so bad, most adventuring parties don't have the power of savescumming on their side so lich can dispose of them well before they get anywhere near him.
Jesus Christ, I suck at this game. I'm stuck because this Mulahey homosexual keeps swarming my party with skeletons and kobolds, and apparently none of my fricking party members can deal with this or his constant Hold Person spam.
who's in your party and what level are you
Level 1. I currently have Imoen, Brawhen, druid lady whose name I can't spell, and a really talkative wild mage girl.
How are you only level 1 at Mulahey? Have you done not a single other quest going there?
>Imoen
>Branwen
>Jaheira
>Neera
I think he died earlier..
I just rush into the room with him, kill him, then fight everything else.
I play on insane scs and the only way i can kill that homosexual at low level is 2 or 3 pots of explosion bought from the wizard and a couple webs.
Which wizard?
i'm going to take my first try in bd1, what character should i take
Whatever sounds cool. You get to take up to 5 companions to make up for whatever shortcomings your main character has.
Just try to minmax those ability scores a little and don't play a monk.
High dex (18)
High con (16 for casters, 18 for martials)
High Strength for martials
High Int for Wizards
Everything else is whatever, as
said, pick what sounds good to you.
Don't even buy SoD. It's really bad.
I played it once and it's absolute shit.
>All of the cool spells are in BG2
God damn it, I need to spend more money.
>paying for spells
Look at this loser.
Everyone knows that it's cheaper to buy a handful of thieving potion and use them to steal the entire inventory of every store.
Real life money, anon...
something something
company bad
just pirate it
ask someone else for the details I don't remember them
It's six dollars on steam right now
Why i cant be paladin dwarf
Because that's how it was in 2nd edition D&D
Ok uninstall
I'm pretty sure you can use shadowkeeper to make yourself a paladin dwarf but that would be cheating
There are mods for it.
>Why yes I did crit Haer'Dalis and leave his bloodied corpse behind for daring to look at my waifu, how could you tell?
Shit I still haven't rescued him from the dimension of whatever
does anyone have an explanation of how you deal with dual classing? getting to level 9 kensai/9 mage before my kensai abilities work again sounds incredibly rough.
>getting to level 9 kensai/9 mage before my kensai abilities work again sounds incredibly rough.
You'll level really quickly and a pure mage is still good in the meantime with low level spells.
>the dual classers cope
>9 fighter levels
>ridiculously high hp
What's the issue? It's not like you're as squishy as a 1st level mage. Let your party carry you through a couple quests.
Imoen, Jaheira, and Aerie are enough to handle the entire game on their own.
Convince me it’s not the most boring fantasy setting ever
Dragonlance exists.
All the nu-rpgs like Pillars and pathfinder are a thing.
t. don't even really like FR. It's only appealing in retrospect when comparing it to modern bs
What version should I play? Are there any essential mods? For these ancient venerated games it’s hard to know where to start
This maybe controversial but I'd suggest playing the enhanced edition with the Beamdog npcs removed and Sword Coast Stratagems installed.
IF you really really want party banters in the first game, Npcproject is "better" than nothing but I'd advise against it.
https://argent77.github.io/A7-NoEENPCs/index.html
https://github.com/Gibberlings3/SwordCoastStratagems/releases
Is Beamdog stuff really that bad?
You forget about the most jarring part - they're voice recordings are completely "off" compared to the vanilla ones, and have this ever-present echo of a madly mixed sound booth recording.
I especially like that beamdog npc children voices were made by adults, just pitched up...
i've never played a BG game before, what game should I play? should I get any mods?
Just downloaded the first game, what should i know before starting? any tips/tricks?
Huh, that would probably require writing an entire book in and of itself. Is there any particular class you want to know about?
i really have no idea about anything in the game, i don't even know what classes there are, so just some pointers to make the start as painless as possible would be greatly appreciated
>Are you planning to play with mods or no? And what version are you playing?
no mods, enhanced edition since it's on sale on steam
Do not recruit the following NPCs then:
Dorn
Neera
Raheed (the monk dude)
and should you find him, Baeloth
Those are the Beamdog NPCs. For your first time, play without them.
That, or you can simply mod them out.
Eh, Ranjeed and Neera are decent enough to pick up for a playthrough and the new Beamdog areas do look pretty.
Dorn is...coldsteel tier.
Rasaad maybe. Neera, frick no. She's literaly tumblr incarnate. She's a character straight from some bad Joss Whedon show.
I´m hooooooooooooome
HALF-ELF
Eh, playing with neera means you get to reload whenever she effectively kills your party by fricking up a spell or destroys your party's gold. Also her voice actress+dialogue is awful.
Rasaad is the most likeable person of the beamshits, but has the worst class+kit combo in the entire game, literally.
Dorn is a gay black man.
>enhanced edition since it's on sale on steam
>buying EE
I seriously hope none of you do this.
well i didn't BUY it 🙂
If you can, wear a helmet.
I think I might be really underleveled. Is Chapter 7 of BG2 at around ~15 too underleveled?
That's good to know, thanks. In general I'm not rushing to finish the game since I'm really enjoying myself I just got carried away with the story.
Would be nice if the game had more tension drops in that regard.
>Would be nice if the game had more tension drops in that regard.
Well, Chapters 2-3 are the designated tension drops, being essentially a semi-sandbox. "Gather 50k to save Imoen" is essentially a shorthand for "do as many sidequests as you can".
>but I don't know what Irenicus plans to me in the final battle so I won't risk it.
I am just going to say this. The final fight is BRUTAL. You might want keep doing sidequests until at least one of your mages has access to Lvl 9 spells and Timestop.
If you want an archer then Mazzy is good. She comes with grand mastery in shortbows and plenty of dexterity to make her even more lethal with them.
Give her the tugian bow and she's a machinegun.
Interesting, I forgot all about Mazzy to be honest.
I inch up and around and draw them closer to me or I get them to waste their spells by getting them for fire at a companion and then run back outside
what race should i pick for first playthrough? humans since they're the vanilla option?
Humans are fun for a single-class playthough. Non-humans are good for the easy multiclassing.
Also it depends on who you want to romance later on in BG2. Overall, either go with human or a half-elf.
Different races have different class options available to them.
If you want to be a paladin or monk(don't play a monk) then you have no choice but picking human. If you want to multiclass then you have no choice but a non-human.
Aside from being their own thing EE npcs add writing to the original characters and that writing may or may not seem moronic to you.
And I was this close to paying for mobile port of planescape.
planescape ee is much better than bg ees tbh. also the "mobile versions" are for tablets
Bg1 npc in bg2 is a good mod?
Eh, it's fine. No romances though.
should i make a character for roleplaying as them or for being fun to play?
The latter. BG doesn't have *that* much roleplaying compared to let's say Fallout or later Obsidian titles. It's just you deciding if you are a good or a bad guy. Make a character that's fun to play.
What level do you dual class Imoen?
IIRC 4 or 5 was good because you could max lockpick/find traps before and still easily get max. level mage.
Thief 6 / Mage 7 in "vanilla" BG (20k+60k < 89k)
Thief 6 / Mage 9 in TotSC / EE (20k+135k < 161k)
10 or 11 if I play the trilogy mod. Detect illusion is just too good and deserves to be maxed along with lock picking and traps.
Detect illusion is pretty good but I'd rather just cast true sight most of the time.
>Have Neera cast blind on someone with her wild magic
>he turns into a demon and kills everyone
I swear to God
I can't attack the dummies in Durlag's tower
Attack their "feet".
ToB kind of sucks. I'm glad I could play through watchers keep in SoA. Mellisan just isn't interesting and the high level combat feels like a chore when every trashmob mage can cast timestop and Fire Giants can oneshot you even with a ton of hp and AC.
picked up bg2ee on steam for cheap
just cleared Irenicus's dungeon and got the cheevo
>19% of players
It's not a hard dungeon, what gives? This isn't like BG1 where you and Imoen get gangbanged by gibberlings as soon as you step into the woods until you learn how to kite
there's two mods to skip the opening dungeon. people just don't want to play through it anymore.
Skip Chateau Irenicus > Dungeon-Be-Gone
Well yeah. It gets you out way faster and doesn't have awful voice acting. I can't think of a reason anyone would still use dungeon-be-gone over it.
Achievements were added some time after release
Besides the backtracking bit, I like the Irenicus dungeon. I don't see why anyone would want to skip it at all.
Probably for people that have seen it a dozen times already and want to try out new mod added quests, companions, etc.
>gets lit on fire
>I feel so cold
Stop setting Imoen on fire.
Thank you.
Should I get BG3 now, or wait for it to finally come out in full?
I'm in the mood for something new, I just hate the idea of paying full price for a EA game.
Wait. The EA doesn't offer enough content for that asking price.
you know what guys? i like neera and I'm tired of pretending that I don't
At least you didn't say you like Hexxat
is the chess puzzle even winnable
>chess puzzle
You're gonna need to be more specific.
durlag's tower
I'm pretty sure that the developers didn't program a chess engine into the game.
Try shutting off AI and having a party member peek forward 1 inch at a time from the corner of the screen until a pawn attacks. Rinse and repeat for all the pieces. I think they're all worth some amount of xp and have some loot. I also think if you kill the king they all die at once but you might not get xp or loot.
I don't know. If it were me playing I'd just rush forward and try to fight everyone at once.
All you need to do is shoot fireballs from every character (wands, potions, amulets) to the border of fog of war.
anyone else ever done a solo run from BG1 to ToB?
It's been so long, but I want to try it again.
>You just end up missing out on a ton of content and being incredibly weak
Hahahaha!
>Unfortunately there's no reactivity or changes whatsoever
some dialogues are different, eg. before facing Irenicus
>being incredibly weak
kek, that's exactly other way round.
>play solo
>finish the game with 8m xp
>play with a full party
>finish the game with 8m xp
Solo is extremely weak.
>play with full party
>hit XP cap at the very end of the game, unless you intentionally grind in Saradush or on respawning Derro Berserkers
>play solo
>hit XP cap before Spellhold
You show you never soloed, you're ridiculously overpowered and overleveled during majority of the game. You get high level spells earlier, you get HLAs earlier, you have absurdly powerful spells that scales damage with caster level. You are only weak at the beginning of the game, but that's the fun challenge part, right?
You can farm xp in Watcher's Keep too.
That area in the teleporter maze where a bunch of demons are waiting to talk to you respawns enemies after every rest that give something like 50-200k xp.
Besides, it's not like you need 9th level spells to destroy enemies. Most of the time all you have to do is cast secret word and breach to remove their spell protections then they melt.
>play with a full party
>finish the game with 8m xp
The average 6 man party will end TOB on between 6 and 7 million XP. You can cheese and do things like pump CHARNAME to 1.25 mil before recruiting anyone but the average isn't even close to 8 mil.
Any good mods for TOB? New locations, new quests and etc.
If male dark elves in forgotten realms are smaller than females, does that mean Viconia's not completely loose yet? Or are they all packing heat relative to body size
Does it matter?
You're a wizard. Just cast reduce on her to shrink her by any percentage you want.
>can't tell Imoen to frick off
>can't pick an evil path in a quest
I will never play this game solo or role play an evil Bhaalspawn hungry for power. Bros...
>literally the first choice you get in the entire game is whether or not to tell Imoen to frick off
have a nice day. You've never even played the first minute of this game.
He means he's unwilling to go through with those options, you mouthbreathing mongoloid.
You can turn Imoen evil in the Imoen Romance mod.
Does her alignment change or is it just like a thing where you harden her personality but she's still good.
You convince her that being a bhaalspawn and turn into the slayer is a gift and she should pursue ultimate power.
Only thing stopping her from being the 10/10 ultimate best waifu ever is that there's a really awful ultimatum she gives about never having children which I'm 100% sure was just there to appease the anti-incest crowd.
why does exploding arrow only work on aec'letec once
Because the game hates you
New Panel From Hell
>m-muh spellslots
silly anons, spellslots don't matter after level 14
>still didn't beat ToB
How did you guys get past the frickfest that is high level 3.5 combat? I got to the fire giant's lair before I quit
Maybe I should just swallow my pride and play on games journalist difficulty, idk
>ToB
>3.5
come again?
Abuse every cheap spell and ability you have. Your enemies will do the same.
The sword's damage is pretty shit though. You want your characters to be in melee to kill them in any reasonable time.
Is there any way to save her in an unmodded game? I did some googling and it seems like she's bugged and game scripts will break even if you put a protection spell on her during her death scene, causing her to despawn randomly later...
I'd just change actual Hexxat portrait and looks through EEKeeper to look like her and pretend like she killed her defective body double.
Come to think of it, is there a "Save Clara" mod?
Yes but it's attached to the terrible Mazzy megamod
I took the portrait and gave it to my character. I haven't touched EE characters beyond my first EE playthrough.
>You like the cute girl?
>Too bad. You get the nigress. Enjoy!
What did they mean by this?
Both you and they know exactly what they meant by this.
Someone started a mod to save Clara, but it is unfinished and abandoned.
Only reason i ever use clara/hexxat is to use it as a pickpocket slave, then kick it. I've endured other EEnpc's SoA quests, but hexxat is too much.
Her early quest gives really nice xp, bag of holding before spellhold and a dagger +3 if you're maining daggers for some reason
Beamdog npcs tend to bribe you into doing their shit like that
I don't care about Hexxat being a black lesbian vampire I care that she kills a party member in a cut scene and you can't do anything about it.
I installed the anime portrait mod but now I don't have a MC portrait to match the art style
Forgot pic
Is this by the Dungeon Meshi author?
yes
Yeah she loves wrpg stuff. She drew a comic about wanting a Japanese translation for dwarf fortress too.
Those are so bad. And full of sameface.
The four bottom right ones are for the MC
whats more badass for a first playthrough
>half-orc fighter
>human blackguard
Does the Sword Coast really have room for two Dorns?
>npc can be half-orc paladin but i cant
Nothing new. Aerie is an elf mage/cleric multiclass, which is also an illegal combination.
Although Dorn being a horc blackguard spits in the eye of the halfling NOTPALADIN.
half-orc fighter/thief or half-orc fichter/cleric
too late im a half orc berserker dual wielding axes now
when do i get some litty party members
currently i have
>a moronic wizard
>montaron
>imoen
>a sadboi named xanax
>a hamster
You can get them as soon as you want. There is a drow in one of the two woods. There is a cleric turned to stone and a very good wizzard is near the hamster.
Why is Dorn's stats >>>> Ajantis?
Because Ajantis is based on one of the game devs, of course he has shitty stats.
Where does Imoen go if you dismiss her? I disbanded the party to kill basilisks, and I need a thief.
copper coronet. read the dialogue
What IS the level cap in these games? I see spells go up to seven, but I assume expansions let you go higher?
different classes use different xp values for levels. First BG (with expansion or just ee) you'll hit level 8-10. Cleric for example will be lvl 8 at the max while rogue will hit lvl 10
> I assume expansions let you go higher?
No, level 7 is the cap for divine magic. In BG1 you'll only go up to level 4
very good tips for a newbie, I forgot about the max hp when leveling especially
Hell no dude play easy
Hello guys.
Is there a separate mod that increases the speed of movement outside of combat?
I know it's in the Tweak Anthology, but you'll have to spend a couple of hours there until you get to it.
Yeah, activate cheats and use contrl j
>hey guys where can i find this thing i know exactly where to find
Regarding dual-classing, when's the best level to switch?
Speaking about Thief to mage, Fighter to Druid, Fighter to Thief, and vice versa T to F
*Stalkers are not amazing
How to deal with Melissan's second phase?
She keeps time stopping and summoning adds and I cant land a hit on her.
conjure dozen of Skull Traps on the location she teleports to, it should 1-shot her. Cast Lower Resist for a good measure
I can't fap to Imoen because she reminds me of the little sister I never had
>Imoen Romance mod
>Nahlia Romance mod
>Wings expansion for Aerie
>Banter Pack
Yeah, I'm thinking it's Harem time.
>Imoen
>Nalia
Gorion's Ward would never touch a non-elven arse.
Wintrop pushing main protag into elven ass fetish should be canon.
Is Nalia romance mod actually finished? I thought it was lacking the ToB content.
I don't believe it is, but the SOA portion of it is well done considering it's a romance mod
Both de'arnise mod and imoen should have banter with the base romances but i'm pretty sure it's impossible to actually romance them all at the same time
There should be some compatibility mod or some shit to get banter between imoen and nalia but i can't recall the name
Do the mods actually account for having a harem?
There is some EE mod for a gnome girl that wants Charname to have a harem, witch checks to account for almost every other romance, including mod added ones, so you can romance them all.
I don’t have EE so I don’t know how well it works in practice, just one of the mods I noticed on the list when I was looking at the options for the Big World Project guide regarding getting mods to play nicely together.
Last time I checked (years ago), Inoen's romance mod had content only for the BG2 portion of the game and it used some pretty terrible custom bgm. Is this still true?
I'm currently doing a Bhaalspawn party members only run and wouldn't mind installing it if it was updated.
What am I in for? First time playing this game.
getting carried by the companions, lol
Lol lmao even. Anything that is above 15 should be more than enough on dnd standards. This game is ancient.
15 str doesn't even give you any bonuses in 2nd ed.
>Anything that is above 15 should be more than enough on dnd standards
Get out of here zoomer, this is not 5e.
Too little strength and constitution.
The only reason to play Half Orc is that19 strength. You fail. If you are a martial and have not maxxed Str, Dex and Con during chargen, you fail.
>The only reason to play Half Orc is that19 strength.
Other perks:
>Not a manlet
>Ensures you won't accidentally start the Aerie/Jaheira romances.
It's a niche but a decent one.
>Played the new patch recently and got up to the part where I saved the camp from the Goblins
>Decide to spend the night with Lae'zal.
>The screen goes to an UNDER CONSTRUCTION page with some moaning, intimidation checks, cinematic skips, and dialogue.
Brehs, the rumors were true, the mad lads are going to add sex scenes into the game.
You somehow missed the full on porn scene with Minthara?
I am curious when the wokies at WotC will step in and tell them to censor that shit.
Are you mad? The endless tides of coomers would eat them alive. Imagine the mods.
I don't think WotC cares about coomers very much anon. They have a different fanbase.
>Anon doesn't realise LGBTQ freaks are the biggest coomers of all.
Sweet summer child.
Never had any doubt.
Impressive. The wacky proportions of this artstyle make Sarevok's armor look not completely moronic like it usually does.
I was wandering around and found some Drow sorcerer. He seems pretty useful.
bg2 is on sale on steam rn for only 3 dollars so i picked it up. Should i wait for bg1 to go on sale before i play it
Not totally necessary. In fact I bet probably half of players back in the days of the original release played BG2 before BG1.
ignore characters mentioned below:
dorn
hexxat
neera
rassad
also don't fall for meme kits like dragon disciple and wizard slayer
>rassad
Isn't Rassad generally seen as OK? Not bad, just kind of harmless?
yeah rassad is nice but his kit is not that good
As a character he's fine, monks suck though
Yes, but he still takes you to more Beamdog contend.
That, or you can just install the mod that removes them. It's much easier this way.
>dragon disciple
there's nothing wrong with dragon disciple
pure sorc is better
It's not a meme kit though and having 20 AC along with mirror images and stoneskin is pretty base.
>Wizard Slayer
Not really a meme kit. Half-orc max DEX and STR slinger/dart-tosser wizard slayer is the force of nature throughtout the whole game.
Just worse than nearly every other possible set up due to the ludicrous item restrictions.
But that "X: Spellcasting Failure" is worth more than any item could ever give.
Unless I’m remembering you ncorrectly You need your mages to open the casters up before you can even get to that point, and once you are there the caster is good as dead anyway.
Protip: dropping the spellcaster to 0 hp gives them an immediate 100% spellcasting failure rate.
>Chaotic Neutral
that's lawful neutral moron
Is the berserker->wizard really that OP? Also, can I use armor if I go down that route or will I be unable to cast spell.
>breeze through BG1 due to being a pure fighter and having berserk which makes you immune to most forms of control
>get a frickton of hp due to fighter's d10 per level and full con bonus
>unlock your fighter levels almost instantly by stealing and scribing every scroll sold in Athkatla
One of the things EE has done right is the severe reduce in XP gain from locks, traps and scrolls. That shit is just pure cheese.
Stop liking drow women
Once you go BLACK
You never go back
lariandrones will defend this
Viconia had a whole story about how one of her sex slaves had a dick much bigger than yours.
I will redeem her with my dick and there's nothing you can do to stop me.
It is too late for me brother, go on without me!
I only like Eilistraee drow. I will never forgive Larian for not putting an Eilistraeean waifu companion in a game.
THIS
Don't you guys know that Drow women like to abuse their boyfriends and tie them up for fun and giggles!?
Did you know that drow women stink, anon?
Not all drow women. Some just like handholding, long walks under the moonlight and cuddling in the forest. With wholesome missionary sex. And they make you breakfast in the morning.
I wish they would make me their breeding slave instead but some handholding and cuddling is fine, too.
Anyone know why the frick BG2 is on sale right now and BG1 is not included?
Found a copy of bg2 lying in the road. Should I play it? Never played bg1
If you can't spend those 10 bucks or whatever the whole package costs, you can always buy it from torrents.
I once found a box full of floppies for X-wing vs. TIE Fighter on the side of the backroads around my house.
Odd how stuff like that happens.
Severly underrated companion
>pure thief
>can't get her until most of the way through the game
She's not bad but it's not really a surprise that she's ignored.
Yeah this is why I mod the game to take potential companions outta BG city and Cloakwood.
she fun when she's together with Edwin
So I'm at Chapter 7 of BG2 and I feel like my party is under-leveled though I exhausted the majority of the quests I believe. Only quest I haven't finished in Athkatla is the one with the liches I think.
Should I do Watchers keep now? Grind? Just say frick it and face Irenicus?
Which level are you? Have you done Firkraag already?
My character 18
Minsc 16
Jaheira, Aerie 13
Imoen 17 on mage
Valygar 16
No I haven't managed to beat any of the dragons yet. Maybe I missed something important, I did skip some quests in the Underdark.
That sounds roughly in line with where you should be in late SoA, little bit behind a full on completionist but not egregiously so considering you haven't done some of the optional stuff.
>Firkraag
>Imoen and Aerie
Just beat him now. First try with a bit of luck and using the Slayer form. Pretty hyped that I managed to do it, the entire last chapter was really really cool.
TOB next I guess.
>TOB next I guess.
ToB has a pretty big difficulty spike, so you might want to do Watcher's Keep after you leave Saradush.
Would you pay $19.99 for BG1 EE if you have never played BG or a CRPG before?
just get it for free
Did you know that Alaundo was a giganig?
I no longer consider him wise
>I stan
Why do these people talk like this?
Its also very telling that they made Faldorn younger and better-looking because that aint sexist at all.
WOTC/Hasbro really really REALLY needs to positive ESG scores.
>Astarion simping
No surprise at all from a terminal-twitter-troony.
>bane is a generic bishounen villain now
lol, lmao even
>Tieflings are oppressed
I mean they are literal demonspawn.
>The knowledge of Black men is powerful
>the knowledge of fat people is powerful
This has to be a parody at this point.
>characters have to be as gay as possible
There goes the black demographic...
Marketing should have told the troony that Black folk hate homosexuals.
>Dynaheir
>tribalist and sexualizing stereotypes
This dumb troon never even played BG didnt he?
Not only doesnt he know what "tribalism" means and is thus using the word wrong Dynaheir was from Rashemen which is a weird amalgamation of pre-russian empire russia and Scandinavia.
Dynaheir as a hathran being black didnt make a lick of of sense since the witches of Rashemen are known for taking explicitly rashemi children from their families to teach them.
Its also weird as frick that she is looks like Rhianna now.
>Oji the black troony
Sounds like Oji got already buckbroken then.
YAY! Killallwhitemales!
just killed her "ecoterrorist queen" on my current playthrough, lmao
Are people on twitter this stupid and tone-deaf, or is it some kind of shitpost account?
Because I refuse to believe this chick (?) is legit.
new on this, right?
>Its ok for me to sexualize male characters, but Dynaheir? Ugh.. Such a sexist and problematic depiction of black people
How do these people not realize their own hypocrisy?
Can someone enlighten me as to how Dynaheir is sexualized? Is it because you need to rescue her? I don't get it.
I suppose she (?) has seen this artwork and lost her shit.
I still think this artwork of Dynaheir is an improvement.
By that standard "Bane Lord of Darkness" and Astarion are both sexualized stereotypes aren't they?
Sush, don't question the double standard.
More nubian queens
She isn’t even that, she is from Rashoman which is the Slavic russia land. She is tribal because those people are savages up there in a matriarchicsl magocracy.
It would have been cool to have a proper companion from Chult.
>I still think this artwork of Dynaheir is an improvement.
Thats because your taste is just as shit and moronic as that of the habsro-troony.
Hathrans being all Blacks makes zero sense.
It just tells me that neither the troony nor this artist werent really told in detail what to draw.
She is a Black in the game, why would they change her to not being a Black?
>I still think this artwork of Dynaheir is an improvement.
That is not really hard to do, though, since everyone's portraits in BG1 looks like they could star in some sleazy low-budget porno, those really nasty ones where everyone looks like they have some sort of STD.
Is it a troony or a gayhag fujoshi?
>Are people on Twitter this stupid and tone-deaf
Yes
fragile
Who is she referring to here with "Great mother"
Probably "Mother Nature", since she is a worshiper of the nature god "Silvanus the Oak Father".
Might be Chauntea as well.
Both Silvanus and Chauntea as well as Malar are valid choices for veneration by a druid.
This is so shitty that i can't even laugh at it.
Not our fault that surface-dwellers can't resist Drow QVEENS
>redditbuddy
Why do wizards of the coast only shill baldur's gate? Why no neverwinter nights 1-2, planescape, icewind dale at all
Because its more popular and its the only one zoomers had heard of even before BG3 by virtue of BG2 being extremely highly regarded as a game. WotC's interest is based purely on brand recognition and squeezing as much money out as possible, not the quality of the IP.
Can drow just abort children with magic or why would she subject herself to maybe getting a half-drow baby?
Doing her part in boosting the slave population/
You're disguised as drow. Play the game.
o yeah, totally forgot about that part
Played darkness over daggerford recently and it had an almost identical quest(you drop off a black dragon’s egg into a hut of some lizardmen chief). If anyone wants to play Baldur’s Gate 1 level comfy kino but with 3.0 rules i highly recommend this module
wanted to play the old baldurs gate but got to the first (tutorial) fight and couldnt figure out the buttons 2 hard filtered
Bro, what's holding you back?
im legit too dumb
rolled a 95 bros
This is, by far, the gayest fricking barbarian I have ever seen.
And I don't mean it as gay in a flamboyant way, I mean like this guy looks like a real homo, like he's gonna drik some starbucks right after enraging.
Where is this from? I fricking hate that kind of modern flashy animations. And why that goblin has modern homosexual hair style?
That's a Redditor you bigot.
That looks awful why is his non-magical frenzy ability surrounded with a massive magical floor symbol and magic blood cloud?
Hate to break it to you but real barbarians and vikings looked like this
I've never played either BG before, and want to get into it
What are some fun character ideas for either good or evil playthroughs
>evil
Sorcerer, getting powers from divine blood
>good
Clerics. They are op and gib gud roleplay
Gorion the cuck
That is funny because Bhaal didn't actually force himself on any women. Thousands of cultists flocked to him for some of that god-seed.
I can't remember if it's canon or not, but I'm sure it was mentioned at some point later that CHARNAME's mother was one of those cultists.
She was but that wasn't decided upon until they were writing TOB. In BG1 it was canon Gorion was a cuck, retroactively he was lying to you instead and isn't a cuck.
he is even more of a cuck with tob in mind, I bet she was his "lover" and still went to get some bhaal wiener
Its made quite clear in TOB that Gorion met her for the first time when he went to kill her, so no.
I'd argue it's easier to tell someone you wouldn't want to take after their father "Your mom was raped by some evil dude" rather than "Your mom chased him down for some dick"
I'm on my first BG1 playthrough after doing BG2 like ten times, is the last fight supposed to be over the top difficult or am I just a moron? the rest of the game has had a few moments that felt janky and I've kited enemies for convenience that maybe were supposed to be learning moments I thought I didn't need, but I seriously don't see how it was supposed to be beatable by an average person back in 1998. did they change it? was the "spam summons and ranged fighters" meta in the manual? did whoever played this game on release just tryhard their way through it?
in case anyone gives a frick this is EE, on core, my party is imoen, minsc and dynaheir, khalid and jaheira, my main character is a relatively minmaxed berserker, and at around 80k xp, so about what I'd imagine a semi-serious person playing the game for the first time might have come up with
inb4 git gud, that's not my question
Post your equipment. A properly geared fighter can 1v1 Sarevok with potions.
Probably a lot of people cheesed it though.
>in case anyone gives a frick this is EE, on core, my party is imoen, minsc and dynaheir, khalid and jaheira, my main character is a relatively minmaxed berserker, and at around 80k xp, so about what I'd imagine a semi-serious person playing the game for the first time might have come up with
I had the exact same party, except I was a wizard when I first finished the game. I don't remember Sarevok being that brutal. What are your tactics? How do you use your spellcasters?
>he never learned how to use secret word + breach
>breach
>in bg1
Wizard reach level 9 at 135k xp
Even if you grind to that level, there's nowhere in BG1 that Breach has a guaranteed spawn IIRC.
I'm in Beregost in BG1. First CRPG. Slowly coming to grips with these D&D mechanics...
Remember, quicksave is your friend.
Am I ruining the experience for myself?
If it wasn't meant to be used, they wouldn't have put it in.
Feeling better now. Thanks for reassurance
POV: You are telling Imoen a story about trollops and plug-tails
What's that glove for...?
She's will show you when you're done, but only if your story is good enough.
She will show you*
Oh, i see now.
My half-sister looks like THAT?
Ao almighty Imoen, put some clothes on. You're my fricking stephalffoster sister. The thought of sexualising you makes me physically, mentally, emotionally and divinely ill.
Now get out of my party and swim back to Athkatla
My burly smelly dwarf is apparently gonna tap that.
Next time I will do a run with a female character for some delicious yuri wincest.
