Banjo Tooie

The way that levels in Banjo Tooie were interconnected felt revolutionary at the time. Being able to take a train between levels made them feel more like actual places instead of just sequential video game stages.

It just made all the backtracking less of a hassle, but it was still a hassle.

If u talking about gameplay, Shadowman is ur answer.
If u talking about Theming, Jet force gemini is your pick.

When I played Banjo-tooie I had NO idea the trains actually served a purpose and thus got stuck at Grunty's Industries and only managed to finish the game through cheats.

What are the "bad things" in the tunnels?

Could you expand on this. We had interconnected zones in Zelda 64. You could find a body of water in the woods that lead to Lake Hylia for example. And running to Zone A to do something that lets you access more of Zone B. Etc.

I think your post is stupid. But you can contribute something that would at least be an interesting discussion.

There's a difference between connecting locations on an over world and connecting the separate levels themselves. It be more like if there was a tunnel inside the Forest Temple that led to the Fire temple.

Banjo-Tooie is the only N64 game that holds up, it could have come out yesterday and would be heralded as a great.

I mean there already were 3D open world RPGs, like Might & Magic series, as well as more fragmented, but much more realistic games like Thief and Deus Ex.
    What makes Banjo-Tooie special?

Arena, daggerfall, obligatory frontier elite II, midwinter 2, mines of titan, ultima 4-7, star control 2, etc…

What he means is cartoony colectathons, with memorable Disney type characters and stories. not complex worlds with depth through simulation or fleshed out by hand or both. I’d rather talk to npcs in daggerfall all day than suffer the grunts of banjo kazooies “voice acting”. But I just generally don’t like banjo or many 5th gen platformers.

What makes it different is that Banjo Tooie isn't an open world sandbox RPG, it's presented at first as a more linear game with completely separate levels. The train seems like a huge twist in terms of how the game is structured.

So is star control 2, but that game would be way to hard for you, kiddo. Just kidding, it’s actually a really great space opera filled with some of the most interesting alien species any game has ever had, still to this day. It’s light hearted and extremely bleak at the same time. Though the space battles are quite tough, I would hope you take consideration to play it, anon.

I went back and watched a bunch of the back tracking collectables because I haven't played this game in forever. Some of them feel do make it feel like more of a world and a less of a game like getting the stony transformation in world 1 and shortcutting to another world. But a lot feel like it's just busy work.
