Sony needs its financials regarding game sales to improve. Companies like Naughty Dog have a long development cycle, about 4-5 years between tent pole releases. To keep Sony happy their studios need to even out their income over time, and for a studio like Naughty Dog that is done by interstitial remasters made by a small division that release at the mid point between the tent pole releases. This is not surprising in the least
