It's looking like we have our top two contenders for Game of the Year this year: Starfield and the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Which of these do you think will actually win it this year?

This is actually a pretty interesting question, but remember that Starfield is going to be on gamepass, so using sales (which would ordinarily be the standard metric) isn't as helpful for a comparison. Considering Starfield is being developed by Bethesda proper and not the B-team that made Fallout 76, I think it's going to be significantly more popular in terms of lifetime sales. Unless Bethesda really shits the bed with its launch, I think it's going to win. Tears of the Kingdom is a significant improvement over Breath of the Wild and has been hyped to hell-and-back, but if Starfield is structured anything like Skyrim or Fallout 4, it's going to have way more popularity, if only because of the customization options and freedom that introduces.
Final Fantasy 16

You should follow your own advice.
Final Fantasy stopped being good decades ago.
Does anyone really care about final fantasy anymore?
I wouldn't say that sales should be a metric. If it were, some of the games like It Takes Two among many others probably wouldn't have gotten GOTY. Instead it would have been whatever the latest Madden was, Call of Duty, GTA, or something.
That said, between these two I think it's very tough. We're looking at two of probably the biggest games we're going to be getting for the whole generation. If Starfield is close to how much fun TotK is to play while still maintaining the scope of the game they are going for, I can see it POTENTIALLY beating Zelda. That's going to be really tough though considering, game mechanics wise, I still think Zelda might have Starfield beat. But from an exploration perspective and scale perspective, I don't see Starfield being beaten. And if the system requirements are anything to go by, Starfield being that well optimized for a game of that size is, to me, almost as impressive as Nintendo getting TotK to fit on a Switch game card. It'll come down to "which is the most fun to play" which is VERY subjective, but I do think if it came to that, based on the fact that I'm only going on what I've seen of Starfield since I've not played it yet, I see Zelda taking it.
Xbox exclusivity will prevent it being goty. Xbox sales are still laughable anywhere except USA.
PC games rarely get GOTY unless they are ported to PlayStation.
Bethesda gets nominated often so who knows but yeah if we're being honest with ourselves. It's either totk, final fantasy or Spiderman 2.
Final fantasy has got very great early reviews from critics and the demo was received very well.
I really see FFXVI being what RE4R was in that it'll be a great game, but will be a "game of the summer" kind of game, but not so much GOTY. Spiderman won't win, but it will be raking in so much money for Sony it won't matter anyway.
I only mentioned Spiderman for 3 reasons
>first game was nominated but lost to gow
>the spider verse is a massive success critically that it can boost the reception around the game too like what edgerunners did to cyberpunk 2077
>it's the only 1st party sony game this year and we all know the sony bias
Though totk has higher chance of winning. Zelda bias is stronger than anything else.
Do you think Spiderman will be a better game than what FFXVI will end up being though?
>total garbage vs expansion pack
pikmin 4
TOTK was going to win once it got delayed out of 2022, its been known. FO4 couldn't beat Witcher 3 despite having tons of systems too
Fallout 4 won the most prestigious GOTY awards. DICE and BAFTA. I think the most prestigious GOTY witcher won was the Dorito popes. The marketing dept certainly bought a ton but the ones you have to earn went to Fallout 4
ToTK will win but it should be starfield.
based
>toddKINO vs. asset flip slop
Is this even up for debate?
>todd masterpiece of skyrim in space vs babby shit remake the 43rd
no contest
Starfields gonna be a buggy mess. It surprises me that people here expect otherwise. Bethesda will do what they always do.
Hopefully. They make the only games worth playing.
I'm convinced everyone parroting this bullshit is too young to have ever played a Bethesda game.
Even their most dumbed down game, FO4, blows every other game in the genre out of the water with how interactive the world is and the degree of freedom players have. Nobody else even bothers competing with them head on because it's just too ambitious.
Bethesda games have bugs because of how huge the scope of their games is and they are constantly pushing the envelope of what's possible. And besides, unlike cyberdump 2077 Bethesda's bugs are funny and charming and you can use the developer console to fix almost any issue you encounter.

>I'm convinced everyone parroting this bullshit is too young to have ever played a Bethesda game.
Except young people are more likely to have played all the bad Bethesda games. They haven't made a good game since 2006.
I could see what happened with the last game awards happen again I.E. One of them wins most of the awards and the other wins GOTY. You can't tell me things like best music wasn't a consolation prize for GoW: Ragnarok
Nah its the style of music, it resonates with more people. Doesn't help ER was one of FROM's weakest. If FF16 doesn't win music this year, shit is rigged for sure.
What do you mean? ER won most of the awards and gow got 2 throw aways, and one of those was just a necessary diversity award for the black voice actor.
TotK - alpha Chad that rolls in pussy
Starfield - autistic younger brother that posts on reddit
The choice is clear
>TotK - alpha Chad that rolls in pussy
you're playing a videogame made for little kids grow the frick up!
I hate using capeshit but this is what is going to happen
Todd will have the last laugh and remind nintendogays who beat them
Definitely totk it's not even a question. You saw the amount of journo shilling this game got? It was literally seen as something that is impossible to exist, a miracle of a game. It sold 10 million copies in 3 days.
Starfield is still pretty nieche in comparison. It's not even the most popular game out of the showcase. What did jounos say about it after the direct? Nothing, none of them is mentiong it in an extremely positive tone.
It will launch in a buggy state and will get shit on for it and nitpicked to hell. Probably get an 85 metacritic.
That's insane. Star wars outlaws makes sense because a lot of people probably thought it was a new star wars movie trailer. But the cyberpunk dlc? payday 3 having almost as much as starfield? that's weird as frick
Starfield definitely has its fans and hype but it wasn't advertised as well as cyberpunk 2077 for a new ip and Ganker kind of overestimates how many adhd Zoomers are willing to put time into a massive single player new rpg game. Starfield needs to attract the fallout fans because your average person feels overwhelmed by it.
>Ganker kind of overestimates how many adhd Zoomers are willing to put time into a massive single player new rpg game.
100% this. One of the biggest asks I've been seeing already for this game has been DLC for co-op or multiplayer in general. Zelda doesn't have multiplayer either, but at least it has things like the fuse mechanic. Starfield's system might be too similar to traditional style crafting systems in RPGs you typically find in PC games and such to really get it going, but modding the weapons and ship should still be at least interesting to that crowd.
I just looked it up and the marathon trailer only has 485k views
?
oh, when i searched it i only saw the playstation and xbox channels' uploads. that's really impressive but i also have no idea how the frick it got that much. i know marathon has a cult fanbase but still
All the views are from destiny players, there are probably only a thousand old marathon fans still alive and they all hated the trailer.
How many of those views are from old fans of Marathon who were left upset by what they saw it turned into?
3. Ain't no one played marathon man. And most that did grew up and have lives.
It's all destiny fans.
There’s no way this reflects sales though. In world is Marathon going to outdo Spider-Man?
The same world destiny has outsold spiderman
>There’s no way this reflects sales though. In world is Marathon going to outdo Spider-Man?
Destiny 2 Fans are going to definitely buy marathon and it's unlike Spiderman 2 a multiplat game. Playstation + xbox + pc. It can easily outsell Spiderman 2.
I didnt believe it would beat Spiderman in sales (or at least revenue generation) until you mentioned it was on the PC too. That's what's likely going to push this thing to have legs.
If Starfield gets the same reception Elden Ring did with an around ~95 Metacritic it's guaranteed it wins but you never know with Toddler Journalists.
Zelda literally cannot lose, not even to the Toddhand
Never underestimate him.
totk is DLC its not a game
it's obviously going to be dragon's dogma
Why did you put DLC of a 6 year old Wii U game next to GODfield?
I am not a tendie but Starfield will never win GOTY. It may have had a chance if it Microsoft hadn't bought Zenimax, but now with the Xbox penalty it is impossible.
I think it being a new IP from the Skyrim guys might help offset. The biggest problem is that its going against the sequel to the literally Breath of the Wild and that sequel makes BotW look like a tech demo. If this were going against SS, TP, or even WW it may be different.
For the first time ever in VGA herstory
it's going to be gmod 2
just like nintendo has a nintendo bonus, xbox has an xbox bonus of sorts, except instead of increasing the score it decreases
Despite how promising and good Starfield looks and is, it'll probably get a lower score than Fallout 76
they're already shitting on it for being 30fps... gmod 2 is 30fps
Zelda because only sony and nintendo are allowed to win game of the year. Game of the year means nothing. I'm gonna enjoy the hell out of starfield
good goy
Game of the decade.
Last I checked Black folk, FFXVI and Starfield didn't have 93 metacritic scores like RE4 and SF6. Your games will not be considered better than those.
If the game industry was objective, Starfield would win instead of a DLC. I just ordered a 4090 to play this
