Why dont they just admit it was a terrible choice, it would save them some face, at least. There is literally no reason for players to be specific characters instead of random soldiers, the costumes based on the team were lost and the first days it was impossible to know who has an enemy because everybody looked the same, plus all the cringe voicelines in the game end screen.
Just admit you fricked up and move on, even if this and BF 5 were crap, pretty sure they have enough money to make a game good again.

But COD, CS and a few other games with full freeform custom loadouts are more popular than BF.
Rigid class design and fixed gear types has proved to be less popular for twenty years now.

One of the most agitating parts of DICE is the inability to admit failure. They cannot. Every single time they make a mistake they genuinely think they were in the right. This has happened like 4 games in a row now. I don't think its just marketing putting on a good face I actually think they are deluded and think they are gods or something.

Specialist gameplay at launch was better then the shitty hybrid we got now. It was so easy you just min maxed you're kit to do the role you wanted and that in turn led to team play far greater then it is now. No one really hated specialists for their usage or gameplay at all.
They hated them for their stupid quips,t he fact the were made to sell skins.
The fact they ruined the idea of it being a large scale battle of two opposing factions's grunts. One people begged for classes, they didn't mean gameplay wise they meant thematically.

Battlefield's core identity is about rigid class design. Each class has only a specific area that they can excel at. If you want big points and you're using that class you need to use it the best you can. Meaning that medic's would heal and revive, even if it was just for their own dopamine rush of getting points. Each class each selfishly out to better themselves ended up resulting in teamplay because each classes rigid design meant you either sucked or ended up helping others just for points.
Specialists allowed you to do those roles but with more flexibility. You still min maxed to do shit well but it was able to be more versatile then running the exact same thing 24/7.

You play as unique individuals, think Hero's. Each one has a signature gadget and trait unique only to them.
At launch the gun and 2nd gadget where whatever you wanted. Essentially meaning there was no real "classes" as you could give any specialist any other second gadget. Anyone could take med box, anyone take rocket launcher etc.
These unique individuals weren't grunts, they were special snowflakes like the flying nonbinary Black person, the bald hag medic or the quip firing grapple hook guy. They didn't even feel like they were supposed to be in a BF game, more like some whacky BR game.

I do understand why they went with quirky specialists, other than microtransactions.
Since BC2, they were constantly rewarded with money by making each other iteration feel less like playing a soldier and more like Rambo.

No classes and picking whatever you feel like is just natural end of this trajectory.

The freedom option works well for games that promote an aproach where each player does its own thing and avoids creating dependencies. Battlefield works well with teamwork and creating a system that promotes interaction between players.

That just sounds like classes mate. Cod did the same shit in Black Ops or something right? Choosing a first gadget/trait and then having free choice for the second gadget isn't rocket science. Having a specific skin for the first gadget is irrelevant, albeit kinda gay since I prefer a free choice for skin.

What baffles me about "specialist" is that it doesn't fit in a game that want to immerse you in a battlefield.
    Not even cod does that.
Let's say you pick the chink girl as a specialist:
Now you will fight as the chink character, except your allies can also be the chink character and the enemies can also be the chink character.
The whole "red vs blue", "us vs russia" is ruined.
The players don't look like infantry men anymore. It ruins the visual, the coherance, the immersion.

How can DICE see the success of Battlebit and come to this conclusion?
I've never seen a more arrogant and self-centered studio in my life. I hope they don't sell a single game ever again.

      They hate battlebit.
Didn't they already start lying how the next BF is going to be a "return to form". Pretty much they are just trying to pull their audience back with promises.

      Anonymous

they don't have to look at battlebit
      people wanted something like BF3/BF4
all they need to do is just include the best of both games and improve upon their flaws

I wouldn't want them to take inspiration from Battlebit, anyway. Despite everyone using it as a Battlefield refuge it doesn't actually play much like Battlefield and is worse than basically every BF game except 2042 and 1.

If players don't understand how it works, then its obviously the devs fault for making it so convoluted that even the BF autists didn't understand or like it. EA should just outright fire any swedish homosexual in DICE who still stomps his foot on the ground and insists its the players who are wrong.

I'm so glad we let the devs spend time working on their game!!!!!!! Its so good to get what you paid for two years after it was made avaliable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Anonymous

      Yeah what

      Its on gamepass i guess

said, it was on gamepass so I tried it. It's okay-ish, the maps are a very mixed bag, but the gunplay is solid, and now that they separated the specialists into classes it makes more sense.

The spectacle is there and the special weather effects are a nice addition, but I still prefer the mass scale destruction that actually changed the map (Kaspian Border my beloved) in previous games.

What I don't like is how they changed the classes - with open weapon slots, if you want to get points there is little reason to play anything other than Support as you get BOTH the ammo box and the defibrilator, so you are the best at keeping your squad alive and topped up. You don't get the medkit, but health recovers so fast it barely even matters, plus saving your team tickets by reviving them is worth more than a few seconds of regen. You will die to vehicles, but you will die to vehicles anyway, as they take so many fricking rockets to kill that they are best ignored and left for other vehicles to take care of them. Or take a suicidal engineer that will try to deploy mines under them which is an instant kill for most anyway.

I mean if anything the new specialist segregation helped people to play Assault, as the only draw is cool gadgets, and the chick with the wingsuit is an assault class, so I guess that's the draw? But you still make more points as a Support, Supply Ribbon every match.

For what it's worth, at least the battle pass is kinda "fair", it's a bit of a grind, but even the free version gets all the actual gameplay elements like weapons and gadgets, the paid version is just for skins. So no real pay to win here. And just like previous titles, there is a shitton to unlock even if you don't pay anything extra.

It's okay/10. Good mindless fun to be a blip on the map for an hour after work. Haven't actually played with buddies and tried to win, but a casual match or two a day is fine enough for me.

Is that why the multiplayer scoreboard didnt work on release then? Or the horrible graphical bugs?

One thing CoD does better than BF is the main gameplay:
The gunplay, the movements, etc. feel much better than BF.
In BF your character is a giant that can run at 200 miles/hour without stopping.

I guess that's how they balanced infantry vs vehicles. That's dumb since bfbc2 wasn't like that and had the perfect balance.

I think if they penalized sprint with longer times of getting the weapon ready it could work out. But anyways, I think the maps being so big and empty is the main issue as if they werent then the player speed wouldnt need to be so high to cover such long distances on foot, thats why the speed in bc2 worked better

It should be illegal to even mention 2042 in a sentence with any other BF.
No matter how shit you thought 1 or V or any other BF game is, 2042 at launch and now is so disgustingly bad that its not even right to compare them. The game didn't even have a fricking scoreboard at launch holy shit and yet you whine going nah 'this other functioning one is just as bad' haha. Explaining systems is up to the developer. If "players did not understand it right" then you haven't explained it in the right way. And for most multiplayer, hell even singleplayer games, if the game is good enough then you'll eventually have people who will dismantle the game as much as possible to find out shit that even developers might not know. So ontop of explaining a system badly, you also made a game bad enough that people aren't even bothered trying to learn the ins and outs of the game.

      Anonymous

There was no system to "learn". It was just a hero shooter that nobody wanted.

I'd say players understood it they just thought it was fricking moronic. Even now BF2042 is shit. For example BF4 has 33 maps compared to 13 maps in BF2042.

Main reason people were mad was because it was a full price game that should have been a BF2 expansion. Since it came out a year after BF2s release which was a absurd concept and just split playerbases more between BF2,BF2SF and 2142.

I remember some DICE dev saying something like "our metrics show players were quitting and then beating their wives because they were dying too much" or some shit like that and all I could think was "how? how could you possibly know what's causing them to do anything? how do you know they're not quitting because of the much more likely reasons like you don't have ANY anti-cheat or ANY team balancer or ANY player controlled servers they lets them fix this problem themselves? you're sure it's because 'they're dying too much' are you?"
