>be me last year
>decide to replay Alan Wake to prepare for the sequel
>also play the DLCs, American Nightmare and Control all for the first time
>play AW2 at launch
>playing through it again now for The Final Draft, nearly at the end again
>decide I should probably replay AW1, the DLCs and AN afterwards to see how 2 recontextualises them
>listen to Old Gods of Asgard every day amongst all this
>can't stop thinking about the lore and mythology of the Remedyverse
Am I trapped in a loop? Is this the true meta narrative?
>Am I trapped in a loop?
Yeah, a loop of BAD FRICKING TASTE.
>being so jaded you don't like Remedy or can't appreciate a passion project
Poor zoomers were born too late to play Max Payne.
>max payne
aka the one game not mentioned in OP's post and the only half decent game remedy ever made.
protip: if your "game" is totally worthless without it's story, maybe just make a movie or write a book.
Passion projects aren't Black person projects
>can't appreciate a passion project
They got strong-armed into completely changing one of the main characters, including her race, her personality and even the ending for her story.
>source:
remedy was never good
fyi max payne is shit, and people who like it have shit taste and/or are saying they like it for other reasons.
have a nice day
>falling for that obvious of a bait
Come on now, anon. Anyone claiming Max Payne isn't good, when it's the blueprint for literally every third person shooter made since 2001 is either baiting or genuinely mentally moronic.
It's the game the invented Bullet Time as we know it. You know, that one thing that was done well in Max Payne and then every other FPS for the next decade tried to ape it and failed miserably unless we are talking about F.E.A.R.
>passion project
>Literally not even written internally by Remedy but by Sweet Baby Inc. Black person dykes
More like Black person Project. The fact that it was nominated for GOTY is everything i need to know.
>WOAH A SONG WHAT A PASSION PROJECT OF GAME DESIGN
Meanwhile the gameplay sucks, the story sucks, the visuals are generic, the pacing is abysmal, the mind place is literally a pointless chore, just moving around is a drag, tons of glitches all over the place, cringy dialogue and multiverse nonsense story.
FPWP, both Control and AW2 are pretty good.
>Diversity is our strength
Where the frick do you think you are homosexual?
Who are you quoting?
OP on suicide watch
fpbp I can't believe someone would play all that trash holy frick I'm actually seething how moronic gamers are. no wonder genshit, capeshit and zanyshit like this is all we get
Thread should've ended here.
fpbp
The first game quotes Stephen King for frick's sake!
FPBP
AW2 is a moronic moviegame/walking simulator.
The remedyverse is pretty good so I dont blame you
Are you at least having fun?
Herald of Darkness is kino, I put it during the new years meetup with the family and they loved it.
It's not a loop it's an ocean. Alan Wake has been living rent free in my head for the last 13 years, don't know why but it pushes all my autism buttons and I'm happy they made a sequel that's better than 1 in almost every way, shame Saga was kinda bland
>Saga was bland
Yeah that's my one real criticism of 2. I didn't like Jesse either, Remedy seems to struggle making compelling female protagonists.
I think the shooting in every Remedy game always feels satisfying and I really enjoyed the move to survival horror for AW2. Slow is not synonymous with bad, but everyone shits themselves if combat encounters are a little spaced out. Your loss anon.
Eh, Jesse was way better than Saga. If only because Courtney Hope was clearly hyped to be in the videogame, while Saga's actress just sleepwalked through the whole thing.
Jesse falls apart because she finds the people who kidnapped her brother and effectively treated him like an animal turning him into what he is, but spends most of her time there going
>Wow, the bureau is so heckin cool!
And willing joins them
She its just the host of the thing that gives her powers , the only good playable female they did was mona
Their universe has some of the coolest lore and cosmology around, but you have to slog through some highly repetitive enemy encounters.
How did the creators of Max Payne create a game with bland third-person shooter combat?
Is the "remedyverse" really that interesting? I enjoyed Alan Wake and Control but all of the shared universe stuff seemed to be mostly little nods
It's your "baby's first Lovecraft" but there aren't that many videogames that tackle those types of themes, so I'll take it.
Enough with the "screaming face" jumpscares already, Remedy. It stopped being cut the first 20 times you did this.
I get jumpy from screamers so I really hated how random and pointless it was. It's cheap scares that frustrate me more than anything because it ruins my aim.
Is Quantum Break worth a playthrough
Not really, probably the weakest of Remedy's games.
Microsoft demanded it holds your hand , so no.
Everything about the game is pretty good except the gameplay, watch a recap of the story and the TV show or a playthrough
It's a pretty cool action thriller. Comfy city in Autumn setting.
Reminder it's okay to race swap when it's turning white people into Black folk.
Friendly reminder that Saga was supposed to be Finnish. I am surprised that Sam Lake even allowed to raceswap her, because it's not like Finns get enough representation in vidya and he's crearly very proud of his ancestry.
You may be overestimating just how much actual control Lake has over his projects.
He's no Kojima, lemme tell you that much.
Unfortunately modern Finland loves to ape the US in everything, including tokenism. It gets ridiculous because there are like, 5 halfway famous-ish Black folk in the whole country, so they have to shove those same five into every tv show. Cause god forbid a country that's >90% white would have entertainment that's also >90% white.
That's another trait they share with Poles. I guess that's why we get along so well.
>every black Finnish politician/celebrity is in significant debt or has a criminal record for defrauding the social welfare agency
It's impressive
Sam wanted to use the finnish mythology in the game, that's why Ahti the sea god is there. Unfortunately, foreign investors like Epic has never heard of Kalevala. They have heard of Norse mythology like Thor and Odin, so Sam had to turn Saga and such to swedish.
Actress was tied to Quantum Break IP which Microsoft owns, Remedy couldn't use her. Also she wasn't available.
>MSC with AW2 graphics
Oh frick I'm cumming
>Actress was tied to Quantum Break IP which Microsoft owns
But half of QB actors show up either in Control or in AW2.
Yeah but in that trailer it's implied she plays the same character as in quantum break. The biggest reason is that she wasn't available. Also Saga's dad is the reason she was changed for the story.
I haven't played the game.
Does the female FBI agent being black even add anything to the narrative, or is it just pure diversity bait?
>or is it just pure diversity bait?
It's the most on the nose diversity bait I've ever seen. She has Finnish ancestry, with her mother being Finnish, her grandfather being Finnish, everybody keeps saying how Finnish she's is... and she's black, because Sweet Baby Inc.
Wasn't she of Swedish ancestry?
If her finnishness is a recurring plot point then she was 100% written White originally and then got retconned for Lord Fink
you didnt even play the game if you think she has finnish ancestry
>"people" who get their opinions from pic related don't even play games and just make up shit to get mad about
Imagine moi shock
kek i 'member
The fact that I cannot tell whether this is supposed to be serious or sarcastic...
you didnt play the game or even watch anything about it
stunning rebuttal of the claims presented
I guess I'm a cruzmissile now
Yeah, she's the daughter of a Lance Reddick character from Quantum break.
Thanks.
You too, I suppose.
Having one black dad doesn't immediately make you a full Black person like Saga.
The actress is also a halfbreed IRL
Yes, kind of. Who her (mixed) parents are is woven into the story and an important plot point.
The only reasoning I can tell is her dad is (probably) Mr. Door and he's black, but every family member you know about is white.
Yes.
Black people are being enslaved to this day and they NEED the representation.
Also its "ok" to put alex casey as the homie that dies first in horror games ( Nightingale doesnt count cause he was already dead)
To be fair, "Black dude dies first" was the trope that's been effectively dead since the late 70's.
It's like with "it was a dark and stormy night". You hear people saying how cringy it is, but you never see anyone actually do that.
I liked the first game and would have bought 2 if they hadn't nigged her. Oh well, I guess I'll just go back to playing my Black person-free fromslop games until someone mods the sheboon out so I can pirate it
Nothing just your average Amerimutt more sexually aroused than fellating Black folk 24/7
>not a single comment here knows why they swap characters
I know reddit discord Black folk dont play games but lmao
It's pretty obvious why, but yeah there is no way half the people that b***h in these threads played the game long enough to find out. Sam Lake retconning stuff is nothing new, this is just more of that.
Not only that, but Black Saga actually says her family comes from Sweden lol
Quintessentially Swedish of 2023.
well yeah, she's a half breed and she doesn't know her black father. Only thing she knows is that her white mother who doesn't talk about her family a lot said she's of swedish descent and even gave her a name related to it - Saga
>swede mother was a coal burner and became a single mom
WTF I love this game now
the Anderson bros refer to her black father as "the dark one" and fricking sacrifice an eye just to make him stay away from their family. At this point I'm certain they consulted Sweet baby inc. just so they can be blatantly racist without consequence, based Finns
>Am I trapped in a loop?
it's a spiral
Of liquid shit running down his leg
So when Jesse finds that alarm that’s talking about an AWE occurring at bright falls. I’m trying to figure out when that fits into the timeline. Before: and that’s when the FBC sets up the survey trailer, or after this events of AW2 which im wondering how she plays into it all
Control is set before AW2. The alarm is from the future, during 2. They talk about The Oldest House going dark during AW2, so I think whatever is going on there will be the events of Control 2.
>the lore and mythology
Enemies in Control have heavy weapons. But there's whole sector of the building abandoned due to cloning of wooden clocks. So, does Bureau have heavy weapons such as flamethrowers and grenade launchers or does it not?
Running through the nightmare New York in AW2 makes me really sad that Remedy never got a shot at making a World of Darkness/Vampire: The Masquerade game. Because the tone is spot-on.
How's the performance after this last draft update ? Is dlss still mandatory with a 3000 series card ?
I fricking hate how it looks
I am running it without DLSS, but with pathtracing turned off, and I don't have issues in the New York/Bright Falls sections. It's the woods that tank the performance... for some reasons.
It's the same on console, New York, Bright Falls and Watery are all fine, but certain spots in the woods tank performance or introduce stutter. They are very dense woods with lots of assets, I guess.
I'd be cool with them making more Dark urban Fantasy and Crime Noir games.
Holy frick how can you replay it and not realice how shit its aw2
>not realice how shit its aw2
Get out of here, ESL homosexual.
So I have the charm when you pet the mayor dog that lets you find everything on sagas map, I went to all 3 locations and found all the stashes on the maps. Where the FRICK is my lighthouse key?
DLC
That doesn’t sound right
My guess is you're missing the stash in the police department basement, which means you pretty much have to be at Saga's point of no return. It only shows up on the interior map. If it isn't that then there may be another in an interior like the nursing home.
FRICK I think you’re right. AHHHHHH THEY WALK SO SLOW
Shut the frick up about Alan Wake 2. Alan wake 1 was decent, but 2 is just a sweet baby movie game leeching off the previous game.
Eh. Sweet Baby shit aside, I would say that AW2 is a better game than AW1. It has more going for it, while AW1 became repetitive VERY quickly.
Even if I keep thinking to myself that I would rather be playing the new Resident Evil games.
Aw2 gets repetitive with the detective room it just has better gameplay
>don't play a game
>formulate an opinion based on Ganker shitposting and screenshots without context
>spout those opinions to create more morons who also did not play the game
It's not a loop, it's a moron.
2 is miles better than one you culture war homosexual.
aw2 is actually stealth goty
the frafics are insane
show me the champion of light c**ts
Yeah, if anything Alan Wake 2 should've won the Best Performance as well. Baldur's Gate 3 only won because of the insane shilling on Larian's part.
Bg3 is fun but it's insane how little it respects your time the combat takes hours and no successful c**t has the time for that shit AW2 actually felt like something I could recommend to my friends without them laughing at me for being a perma virgin neet who jerks off to cartoons.
While I love cRPGs in general, there is something about Larian games that just pisses me off. DivOS 1/2 just made me miserable, and BG3 is essentially more of the same, so I am baffled where all the praise is coming from?
Still, Alan Wake, good game. Scratches my Stephen King/WoD itch.
Saga was the only one nominated for AW2, so it's about right given the nominations.
Has the TGAs even done a performance nomination for a dual role? You can't just give it to Alan's voice actor or model, they're equally important.
Wait, Matthew Porretta and James McCaffery weren't nominated?
What the frick? I feel sorry for Porretta, because he's trying so fricking hard.
Best performance is given to individual performances, not the game as a whole. I feel like Saga getting nominated is a give and take situation, where they felt like they had to do it because Yuri Lowenthal got nominated for Spider-Man instead of the literally who that plays Miles.
Yeah, I know, but Saga wasn't even the best performance in the game. I would go either with Porretta or with McCaffery, because they were at their best here.
Hopefully BAFTA will fix this. For performance they got saga, alan voice & actor, james, and fricking sam.
I am 99,9% sure James is going to win this. If there is one chance to give him the lifetime achievement award, it's this.
Didn't Ahti win the Best Performance from BAFTA as well?
He did. I want James to win but it would also feel so sad.
It's alright, lead and supporting roles are separated.
Was BG3 voice acting really this good to grant so many nominations? It's your regular over-the-top Larian voice acting.
I think it was, but some of them being over the top like you say is not so much an actor's fault but more often how they're told to act. It's also why i think Neil Newbon was so much better in RE8.
Huh? That was him? What the frick? He was in Detriot Become Human as well then wasn't it as The Guy. Frick I didn't know that was him. Ok fair enough that guy is talented.
I think it's a case of whoever is behind the nominations, they don't play games or at best have a very limited selection to play and sample from. BG3 being everywhere because of the viral marketing is what has merited it to be all over that list even though personally I don't think they're deserving of nominations, far more games out there with people deserving who put in effort but BG3 is the in thing so it'll win by default not because it's better but because the perception is it's popular.
>BG3 being everywhere because of the viral marketing
If anything, Larian is VERY good at viral marketing, I'll give them that. Their games are medicore as frick, but holy shit, can they sell them.
Ben Starr for lead
Ralph Ineson for Supporting Role
Any other decision is wrong.
Bafta will give it to Ben Starr, you know British guy winning a British award for representing Britain on the World stage in a huge game is far more likely to happen than giving an award to AW2, and if it's not Ben it'll be Neil working on BG3.
Why is everybody jacking off to Neil Newborn all that much? He didn't do anything special, not that Astarion's writing allows you to show off a lot of acting chops.
HAHAHAHAH
t. Lariancuck
>the frafics
?
I haven’t played control since it came out but is “the hiss” just a weaker version of “the presence”? I could’ve have sworn it mentions they’re similar
Hiss, Polaris and the Dark Presence and kinda the same "species". The Dark Presence just happens to be the most powerful.
I do like the incantation The hiss has its victims recite. Have you played the new game plus for AW2. Any noticeable differences?
>Have you played the new game plus for AW2.
Nope, I've yet to finish the regular game. I need to take a breather from all the fricking jumpscares.
The part where you’re going through the woods in the dark and Ahtis song is playing then randomly cuts out with a chuckle was spooky as shit.
The Hiss is strengthened by the Dark Presence in the AWE DLC, and vice versa. They're both powerful interdimensional entities, but separate.
You dont need a flaslight to kill hisss Black folk that just act like average humans with guns with halo shields, tq and teleportation
is alan wake a video game, or is it a cinematic walking simulator with occasional point and click activities?
A video game
ok. i'm going to try it soon just to challenge my latent hesitancy, and if it's not a video game i'm going to find and kill you.
I would say it's a closest thing to a modern point-and-click adventure game with occasional surival "we won't bring up Resident Evil 2 if you won't" horror elements. It's fun. Although, the limited non-regenerating flashlight is bullshit.
that sounds like a good formula, as long as it doesn't suffer from point and click obtuse puzzle disease and re2 tank controls.
>and re2 tank controls.
It's aping the RE remakes if anything.
>as long as it doesn't suffer from point and click obtuse puzzle disease
It does have a bit of that - there is this mechanic that allows Alan to "rewrite" the level to progress, but most of the time it's pure guesswork. Although, trying different combination does lead to entertaining results, so there is that. Saga's "mind palace" is more straightforward and it mostly serves to make sure you are paying attention.
It's a horror game. Like Silent Hill where you can take multiple approaches, and avoid combat if you so choose in a good number of cases.
>he paid for a Sweet Baby Inc. game
threads still as mentally ill as always I see.
I don't even enter these threads anymore. have moved past Alan Wake 2 for my own mental health
Is sweetbaby inc part of blackrock?
God, i hate israelites.
Me too anon. Hopefully the next Holocaust is actually real
Nobody cares about your cringe """remedyverse""", Sweet Baby shill
Aaaaaaaaand another one. User voted by one of the big xbox fan sites. Some seethe from several sides.
...Baldur's Gate 3 got shafted? How can this be?
Did you not see the judge panel at the TGA's? Literally no-one liked Baldur's Gape: Bear sex edition, they just pretend to. The game falls apart immidiately after act 1
>start watching Rescue Me because McCaffery is in the cast
>he plays the main character's dead cousin who primarily shows up as a hallucination
Jesus, some real dreck made it much farther than it should've on this one.
And on what planet is the Dead Space remake better than RE4make?
Like i said, big xbox fan site. It's pretty much a miracle that Starfield didn't win this.
I liked DS remake more than RE4make but DS1 is my favourite game of all time and I prefer the original over OG RE4, so maybe it's just me.
>be me last year
Who are you this year?
He's me.
Alan Wake 2 is carried by its presentation. The gameplay is nothing to write home about. It's a rigid and sluggish TPS masquerading as survival horror.
Which I absolutely didn't expect from Remedy after Control, which was a breath of fresh air for TPS gameplay. They had also already learned their lesson from Alan Wake, because American Nightmare took the lackluster combat of the original and juiced it up and designed environments to make encounters interesting. They backpedaled and we're back to shooting the same 5 enemy types in cramped conditions, but this time with a ultimately pointless tacked on inventory system which just makes it harder to use the tools which aren't firearms. There's also a maximum maybe 4 enemies on the screen at any time.
The open-level design of the world also worked way better in American Nightmare. 2 makes no use of it's maps outside of their respective story missions and the only way they were able to pad them out was with 5 different types of collectable. Only two of these collectables are actually worthwhile because instead of challenging players Remedy has set up their drop system in such a way that the player will never be at risk of running out of batteries or ammo.
All weapons are designed with standing still and aiming in mind, and only the pump action shotgun which is unlocked at the very end of the game lets you play in a style more similar to the dodge and shoot gameplay of American Nightmare. The pump action shotgun, and ironically, the crossbow, which if you dodge during reload actually animation cancels and also lets you pick up spent bolts ~75% if the time. Additionally, if you shoot your last bolt (which you can statistically pick back up most of the time), the game thinks that you're out of bolts, and if that "last" bolt kills and enemy, they are likely to drop more bolts. You basically never run out of ammo with it and can fire one of the most damaging projectiles fairly rapidfire. That's the most fun I had in AW2.
Where is the mother c**ting lighthouse key?
>hurrrrr hurrrr it’s in the last found cult stash!
I found every fricking one that showed up on my map with the charm. In all 3 locations.
It the police station morgue on your second visit in the evidence room.
Is it me, or does James McCaffery sounds less like James McCaffery we know from Max Payne and more life James McCaffery trying to ape Keith Szarabajka? I guess that's old age for you.
He does have a different tone and cadence for Casey, but I wonder if that was an intentional choice to differentiate the characters. I know he's basically Max Payne, but also not really, so it makes sense to put a bit of a different spin on him.
I wonder if they had any more dialogue recorded for the DLCs before he passed.
I tried to play alan wake 2 but it is way too scary. how do I break through that?
It only gets scarier as your progress so idk. Maybe there's a method out there to remove the jumpscares at least.
It's not scary per se, it just has a lot of bullshit jumpscares, that's not all that terrifying. But outside of that, the game is just a comfy Stephen King novel.
the jumpscares get me really frightened, and in the first bits I've been playing I had to go through that forest and then through the tree to the other side. I had to do it while turning sound almost off squinting at the screen and even then I almost wet myself when the freakin' deer thing happened in the cabin.
now I feel like Im too scared to continue with the tv studio bit, but actually Im interested in the story.
not sure what to do
>now I feel like Im too scared to continue with the tv studio bit, but actually Im interested in the story.
The Alan Wake part is ironically less reliant on jumpscares and more on building the atmosphere, so there is that. But there is one really nasty jumpscare in the metro, because the game wants to make a point.
Get ready for it when you rewrite the train station to "Torchbearers".
just continue, you'll get used to them while playing and you'll be. You can do it anon
There are so many so frequently in a later chapter that you just become numb to them, and I think Remedy knew that because even the characters in-game start just being annoyed by them.
It does take them far too long to realize that jumpscares don't work. I was at the most scared when I realized that I'm out of the flashlight juice and the shadows start gathering around me, this is where the game is at it's best. The ABOOGABOOGA is just cheap.
scariest part for me were the mystery homies, especially when you were looking at something or doing some other shit when 3-4 them just walk up to you and start staring, never knew when some of them would be hostile
When you're walking in a dark room or hallway and one of them you don't see grabs you from a corner it's fricking horrifying
Cracked me up seeing journos and youtubers complaining about being able to run away or around the shadows, not realizing that's the entire point of them lmao
Works in Alan's parts because there are so little of those
how much did they pay you to advertise here?
Aw2 is better than the last of us ever was and is the best 3rd person survival shooty movie game of the last decade or so
how can one game have so much soul bros
Anyone have any book series recs if I wanted to read the Alex Casey series IRL? I love it when the detective novels take themselves super seriously
Seconding that. Recommend me some good hard-boiled detective novels. Or movies, either work.
The Bosch novels.
behold the best and most wellest reasoned alan wake 2 review
its not afraid to state the true statement that it has a Black person, a Black person is woke, and woke is bad
also since its bad theres no need to not skip the cutscenes

Anyone else never get scared in this game? I think I am too interested in it to be scared by it. Sure the shadows made the game tense, but that's it. The jump scares were a weird design choice and didn't do anything to me with how random and out of place they were. The only one that did anything to me aside from surprise is the one you get when you interact with the old woman at the nursing home, which is also the most lore-important jump scare.
The only jumpscare that got me was the one in the train station, because it's such a frick you jumpscare. Aside from that, no, because it's very easy to spot places where you are in no real danger, once you start paying attention to game's very forgiving design.
The only part that scared me wasn’t even technically a scripted spook. I was in the trailer park of watery trying to solve the nursery rhyme in the trailer when I kept hearing clicking sounds. I exited the puzzle and I turn around and down the hall is that fricking spider double legged taken running at me. Scared the frick out of me; ran outside and more taken were coming out of nowhere
Thankfully, the Taken in AW2 are still VERY loud to the point you can hear them coming from a fricking mile away.
The one scare that got me was the one near the beginning in the general store. I've cleaned the place up beforehand, so when the game tells you to go there for the plot reasons and you notice the place changed a bit, signalling someone was there, things get tense. Then the cheap cat jumpscare happens and you think that's it... and then then the game spawns the Taken in the next room.
Respawns happen way too frequently in the game, I don't understand why they happen at all in the same chapter.
Yeah at one point it was getting annoying especially with how scarce my ammo was
Headshots usually work, to the point I'm starting to wonder what's the point of those glowing weakpoints. For me, it's the scarceness of flashlight baterries that's the problem. Sure, in AW1 I was topped off at all times and the flashlight regenerated so you'd never run out of charges, but in AW2 they seem to have oversteered in other direction.
Thought the same for batteries. I don’t think I ever went over 4 batteries in this until the end when you get stocked up. In 1, Christ I’d have about 12 batteries, also didn’t help that I missed BOTH sawn off shotguns. I only ever found the police station one
for me the ammo situation was just right(I played it on hard from the get go, don't know how it is on normal), I was always slightly uncomfortable with how much I had which is something every survival horror should strive for and it pushed me to try to make weapon upgrades combo with each other like magnetic crossbow or the stunning pistol headshot coupled with a shotgun finisher that also heals etc. Batteries were also always just a little bit scarce but I didn't run out completely a single time during the game, I think people run out completely only if they're hoarding flares and flashbangs so they try to flashlight every enemy even in the big encounters and quickly run out. There was too much healing though, I was swimming in it by the endgame so much that I started healing every little scratch I got just to clear off the shoebox
For me it was an overabundance of light on Saga and an overabundance of healing on Alan. I must have had over a dozen full heals worth of healing on Alan by the last chapter.
From my experience the game seems to have extremely aggressive resource drops but it only really kicks in when you're actually empty. I almost never got batteries on Saga and spent two thirds of the game hugging 1 spare battery. The moment I actually hit zero spares the next container gave me 5 in a single pack. Likewise if I just burnt off all handgun ammo, seeing 20-30 in a single drop would quickly happen.
I guess I still don't get how this "angel lamp" mechanic works. I mean, I get that in theory, you need to charge the lamp in order to unload the light in some other place, but in practice I just end up running around in circles pressing "F" at random.
You can have 5? charges of light in your lamp at once and you either need the light on or off to progress in spots, it's binary so it's never difficult to figure out
can you make the original open world single level if you merge the alan wake levels we got?
I've decided to play this game on Story mode, because I have things to do and places to go.
Don't judge me.
Alan Wake 2 is such wasted potential, by its writing and atmosphere it could have been remembered as a masterpiece of horror in the future, but the Black person b***h retcon completely squanders that potential and makes it an unplayable 0/10.
Its insane how leftists just can not stop themselves from totally ruining good things.
>shill(you): "REE WHY WON'T YOU PLAY MUH DOGSHIT WE'VE BEEN SHILLING WITH MUH DISCORDXISTERS"
You're trapped in a loop where spamming threads results in more people despising an already dogshit memegame.
Funny how they didn't spam any of Remedy's other games. Only the one that Sweet Baby'd.
Funny how they also hide the ape in the cover or made her really small
Meanwhile RE2R and Alone in the dark, amso featuring dual protagonists, show the woman well
I too think they could have baited normies. I admit alan wake here looks really good and the cover is amazing, but you cant just make him share protagonist with female netflix. There is a reason they always hide her so much in marketing while if they got the original one they could have attracted more people.
I for one can't wait for that new Alone in the Dark game.
I just started playing AW2 and I know that feel. I love Remedy so much I bought AW2 on lil' Timmy's store. I could easily pirate it though.
But if anyone here is like me, you can make a EGS account, claim a random free game from the store screen, get a -33% Christmas coupon for doing that, and then redeem Anal Woke II Deluxe Edition for 37 eurobucks. Will buy it again for peanuts after the inevitable Steam release.
So far in 3 hours I killed like 1 fat guy, 3 cultists and 1 wolf. After AW1/AN I don't really appreciate the sponginess of the enemies - and that's on normal difficulty! But the forest atmosphere is mind-blowing. Honestly, Remedy should buy out and make a sequel to My Summer Car.
>My Summer Car is an AWE
Would play.
What is up with Sam Lake and his coffee fetish?

I heard Swedes drink a ton of coffee too. Why do scandis love coffee so much?
Standard social thing to have a cup and a chat, also coffee is fricking good.
I enjoyed interacting with the townsfolk when playing as Saga. I never cared much about her as a character. Her combat sections fricking sucked until you get upgrades, which can be only found by exploration. The board thing was kinda brain dead easy. Could brute force your way through it if you wanted to.
Yeah, Saga's "mind room" wasn't really a puzzle, more like a mechanical way to ensure you are paying attention to the story.
Alan's rewriting mechanic was actually more interesting, and although you can bruteforce it as well, trying different things does lead to some hilarious results.
>sure, let's rewrite this creepy basement into a lair of murderous death cult, what could possibly go wrong?
I really enjoyed the loop in Watery. When you needed to follow the sound of Yötön yö playing in the woods.
>tfw Ilkka Villi has a better grasp of English than Sam Lake
It's one of those eye-opening moments.
Ilkka might pronounce english better than Sami since Ilkka has lived abroad, but Sami literally went to uni to study English literature.
>but Sami literally went to uni to study English literature.
So did I.
...why am I not a successful videogame writer who can get away with doing a silly dance on the TGA stage? Where did my life go wrong?
Ikka is also an actor, Sam is a literature nerd and gamer. To properly speak English without an accent you need to try to actively improve pronunciation when you catch yourself saying something wrong or with a thick accent. For example I live in a small town in the Balkans in a tourist region, 10 years ago a Swedish guy moved here and we became friends so we speak English with each other and the rest of the townsfolk also speak english with him. During the last 10 years I've been working with tourists and use english 90% of the time with them so I was mindful of my accent and tried to stop myself and say thing properly every time I heard myself pronounce things wrong. My accent is completely gone now and during the tourist season people often ask me if I studied abroad in England or if I'm originally from there while my Swedish friend still has a very strong accent because he didn't put any effort into trying to improve despite speaking it constantly on a daily basis. I think it's the same with Lake, he needs to use it every day to write and convey stuff to devs etc. but on the other hand he doesn't need to lose the accent or improve his pronunciation so he just doesn't bother with it
That, or you need to learn how to "mimic" an accent convincingly. When I was studying English literature, I got so fluent in English pronounciation (by mimicking the accents of my native speakers) that my Polish accent was pretty much gone, to the point my native speaker teachers were impressed how well I pass for an American. But without practice, it all regresses, so nowadays, with pretty much no need to actively speak English, I am starting to sound more and more like some moronic cousin of Tommy Wisseau. I guess that's kinda the same thing with Sam Lake - he's prononuciation is weird because he doesn't need to speak English 24/7.
one of the greatest compliments I got in my life when an elderly British couple asked me a question and after I finished answering them the guy turned to his wife with a big smile on his face and said "His english is brilliant, innit?" with the exact same accent like the dude from Fast show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B12WBTFLK0Q
pic related is even better than both
Something about this guy's smile is infectious.
fricking loved the Koskela bros, especially his lines in Yoton Yo
tuik tuik tuik
>make one good game 25 years ago
>release nothing but pretentious dogshit ever since
>morons eat it up
What about Max Payne 2 with the killer janitors/cleaning commandos?
I finished AW2 last night and near the end it was running out of steam, it is the only "big" game in years that I enjoyed from start to finish. Fighting the dark presence on the lakeshore your insane, geriatric relatives/ancient Norse gods play a rock concert on top of their old folks' home bus was sheer kino that only Remedy can pull off.
I think this is now an obligatory part of every Remedy game to have a shootout during the Poets of the Fall concert.
I still think War is their best song.
>carve the secrets from your bruised, still heart
>shape my story, tear every page apart
>inside this room you left your mark
>I burn away the shadows, I strike a spark
>FOLLOW YOU INTO THE DARK
>FOLLOW YOU INTO THE DARK, DARK, DARK
underrated banger. The soundtrack is 10/10.
chapter end songs were great, this one hit me like a fricking truck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY9viYTgiiU
>bunch of vague, scattered lore spread across 3 games and over 10 years
>engaging
Yikes. Imagine pretending any of this was somehow interesting. Whoa dude this gets referenced in Alan Wake! Y'know, that boring game where nothing happens?
Accidentally posted it in the wrong thread, so one more with the feeling.
Is there any point in exploring ALL of the Bright Springs/Cauldron Lake or can I just move to Watery when the game asks me to? My OCD is acting up.
good thing I lurk in every Remedy thread because the shitposting finally died down so we can actually talk about the game. You get ammo, supplies, charms, inventory upgrades and some lore tidbits. You can travel back and forth between the places so I don't think you can accidentally skip stuff until you reach a point of no return way way deeper into the game itself and iirc it warns you before it.
Opinion on the nigress?
Not that anon but it bothered me the entire game that she can't hold an American accent
Not that Anon but I wasn't remotely mad when it was made obvious her dad is Warlin Door/Martin Hatch who is canonically a black guy.
shh you can't point out that her being black is story relevant and just another example of Sam being a c**t and retconning
>when it was made obvious her dad is Warlin Door/Martin Hatch who is canonically a black guy
Martin Hatch is a different character because of Quantum Break IP shenanigans and have frick all to do with Door man.
>obvious
You ASSSUMED he was her dad because he is a Black person.
Both Saga and Door Black person is a new character shoved into AW2 (Door is referenced in Control, but was never seen). The og plan for Saga is to have portrayed by a white finns actress, but you know how that goes.
tldr; Saga being a Black person was an obvious diversity pandering. So frick whoever trying to make excuse of it as if it was the plan all along.
>Martin Hatch is a different character because of Quantum Break IP shenanigans
It also has something to do with the fact that Hatch's actor is fricking dead, so they picked the next best thing as a replacement.
>Martin Hatch is a different character because of Quantum Break IP shenanigans and have frick all to do with Door man.
They are literally going to be the same character, someone who can shift between dimensions at will. You would have to be a complete moron not to realise this, a hatch and a door are both openings. Same with Sheriff Tim(e) Breaker.
I'm sad he's dead but David Harewood is a good actor.
It's not an assumption, just basic logic. Near the end of the game, it's basically flat-out told to you once Saga reaches The Dark Place.
Boring as a character but she's a fine "straight man" for all the weird locals she interacts with. imo you should just think of her as a vessel for the story.
a little bit bland, wish she had more character quirks to stand out more and her voice actress is fine(in more ways than one) but that just highlights how much everyone else is great, other VAs completely mog her
>Sam Lake banged both this fine milk chocolate kween and Courtney Hope
Samchads we will never, ever stop winning.
So far, she's pretty inoffensive. The most annoying characters so far were the Bookers, but fortunately, they frick off from the story relatively quickly.
Everything in the game is very consistent in writing and doesn't stand out except 2 things: the Bookers and the "white butthole" line. I'm fairly certain that these are the only 2 things that Sweet morons influenced because they feel so fricking out of place. It also makes sense that if they wanted input on how a Black person acts they would ask them about how an out of place Black person duo would behave in a small town so Remedy would have immunity if someone tries to call them racist. At least we have Tim "The Buck" Breaker on the case, interdimensional Black person hunter
DOOR?
Yeah, Bookers are straight from a different story. Also, if Remedy wanted an "accurate" portrayal of the black people, good job.
>black woman antagonizes the cops, lies to FBI and passively-aggresively accuses everybody around her of racism
Thankfully, you don't interact with them too much.
don't forget stealing evidence! It's painfully obvious, thank god they didn't influence anything else. One day I'll roleplay an impressed wokie on twitter and ask the other writer Clay Murphy what part did Sweet Baby inc help on so I can better appreciate them just to confirm if it's true
You're going to be bouncing between the areas fairly often and new areas will keep opening up. Just move on, because there are also a couple items you get that let you access items in old areas as well like a Metroidvania
Yes you need to meet the Mayor or you get the bad ending where Scratch rapes Alan to death for eternity.
the game warns you when theres a point of no return
>another Anal Woke 2 shill thread
:/
...Ahti keeps singing.
I've been standing here for 5 minutes and he keeps singing. What a madlad.
boss fight is just evil alan wake walking towards you with a metal pole. You turning on lights to win. fricking awful game.
...what else did you expect in a game with evil Alan Wake made of shadows?
we literally just watched him teleport into a guy neo style killing him instantly. Yet he walks slowy with a pole to kill me? Make that makes sense.
He was REALLY tired after ths first two teleports
He can make teleport dash attacks and wave attacks too, but he's easily beaten before he gets a chance.
He's dark, twisted, and cruel.
I thought it's Alan that's the writer that can shape the story, but it's Saga that behaves like she's reading the script ahead of everyone else.
Where do they profiling powers come from and why she's jumping to those wild conclusions like she already knows the story?
play the game, gets explained
She has supernatural powers because Mr Door is her dad and Tor is her grandad.
Wish we got more shit like this in the actual game.
>how 2 recontextualises them
It's called retconning.
WHY WOULD SOMEONE DECIDE TO START THE CREEPIEST COFFEE-THEMED THEME PARK EVER? WHAT IS WRONG WITH FINNS?
How long have you got?
If you lived in Scandinavia, you'd love coffee too.
Because coffee is mandatory and frick your objections.
more like alex woke
Ok, Sam.
Koskela brothers are a treasure.
to Old Gods of Asgard every day amongst all this
Based, since playing 1 for the first time in 2021 I've been listening to them/Poets. Their new songs from 2 are great
Wonder if this one is gonna get worked into the dlc
?si=9r9R6YNmHhpfMHuU
>Raoul Duke and Buk, they are my crowd
>Fit together like the shotgun fits in Hemingway's mouth
>I carve down my plot, I write with your blood
>I created this world, but first came the word
that hemingway line is too fricking hard, like borderline implying youre the reason a writer killed himself lmao
Start lifting
Reminder that he's in his late 50's. What's your exuse?
>it's over
Yoton Yo is such a good song. Probably second best after Herald of Darkness.
>some bozo spells ö as o
I don't have umlauts on my keyboard and I can't be assed to play around with symbols.
Finns won't care anyway.
excellent song, I find it even better than Sankarin Tango.
>mfw playing Control and realized the tango was about Alan Wake
The tango is actually about Alan Wake + Jack Joyce + Max Payne and/or Jesse Faden. The two verses belong to Alan and Jack, while the the chorus belongs either to Max or Jesse or both.
However I love Yötön Yö more as well.
I wish I understood Finnish.
Perkele.
It's alright, Perkele is enough. There really isn't much global use but Finnish can get incredibly visceral even outside swearing and that's fun. Anyway the commonly available translations for Sankarin Tango and Yötön Yö are serviceable and quite good respectively, even if they lose some poetic subtlety and especially Remedy's official translation of SA is incredibly dry and "functional", so you have to track down a better fan one.
What you really should envy is knowing the culture, since all Remedy games 50% Finnish in secret.
It’s hilarious how miserable this board has become that not even remedy can have anything positive said about them anymore.
Games like this and Baldurs Gate have designated discords of people who alert eachother of these threads to come spam the same shit over and over. Reading through it was some of the most embarrassing cringy shit I've ever seen, them patting eachother on the back acting like they are winning some culture war kek
they must have gotten bored lately and stopped, threads are 10 times better in the last couple of days. I also think people stopped falling for the Saga/Sweet baby/white butthole bait
With Baldur's Gate 3, I can see that, the shilling is insane. With Alan Wake 2... nah. I have a feeling there are two-three people out there that just want to legit talk about the game.
I myself bought Alan Wake 2 once I saw Happy Sam dancing on TGA. Don't judge me.
Not shill discords anon, the opposite. People gathering to spam threads about muh trannies and sweet baby shit
It was horrible on release then died down for a bit, TGA and the awards caused another discord uproar and its finally dying down again
Shame because nobody could talk about the final draft when it came out because of this shit and now I've pretty much moved on to other games
oh frick, totally forgot about final draft. Anyone know how easy it is to move pirated save to a legitimate one? Pirated it then bought it after Timmy gave me a huge discount for the holidays
Might not work due to version differences but you could just try moving your save file into wherever the legit one is supposed to go
>pick up Hotline in Oldest House
>thank you for calling Dangerous Liaisons
How is that Swen Vincke annoys the shit out of me, while I think Sam Lake is cool dude?
Vincke always seems very full of himself during interviews etc. while when you listen to Lake interviews you see he's just a humble guy that likes telling his weird little stories and is happy someone gave him a chance to do that which is very funny when you see how much of his own face is everywhere in Alan Wake 2.
the explanation is kind of a spoiler but from the gameplay perspective it's a new game+
>which is very funny when you see how much of his own face is everywhere in Alan Wake 2.
I think it's less about Sam Lake being full of himself and more about the reference spiral he got caught up in. He wanted to reference Max Payne in Alan Wake 2 and for like 99% of the fans the "real" Max Payne is the one with Sam's famously constipated face and James McCafferey's voice, so here we are. And the only reason my Max Payne got Sam Lake's in the first place was because they couldn't affort real actors, so all of the actors in Max Payne 1 were devs + friends and family.
Including Sam's mother playing the main villain.
What's Final Draft? A new difficulty mode?
Because so far, I am stressed out on the Story mode.
It's the story mode with slight changes and some new content, along with a longer, more definitive ending
There is a harder difficulty called nightmare but you don't have to play it to do the final draft
How does Max Payne and the Ragnorok/winter of 2000 fit into all of this?
>there are only personal apocalypses
Max Payne is obvious and couldn't be more on the nose if you tried. As for the winter, I dunno.
I was also obsessive over the lore for days, shit is cool as frick.
Its a shame Steam drama is the only reason this game isnt doing so well. Its acually insane. This game truly made me realize how many of you are actual homosexuals about this and just actually bigots no matter the actual quality of the game
it'll be the same as it was with Control, a little bit of a slow start compared to what it would have been if it released on Steam also but overall a big success. When all of the DLCs come out Epic Games will probably publish it on Steam if they're not completely braindead, Control Ultimate edition sold 3 million and almost a third of that was on Steam
>if they're not completely braindead
You really underestimate Tim and his insistance to hoard the exclusives for himself.
I only see that happening if they stop trying to push the store and instead focus on making their publishing branch more profitable, which given their current list of published games wouldn't be a bad idea.
In this specific case complete exclusivity will cost them a lot of money because even taking into account the 30% Gaben tax the game would sell well on steam, Remedy and Timothy have a deal that they split the profits for Alan Wake 2 50/50 after the sales recoup development costs so the most profitable course of action would be to put it on Steam after the DLCs, basically another launch that would bring them a lot of money
That would make sense but Tim has questionable logic on business decisions outside of UE and Fortnite
Also 30% isn't unreasonable since consoles take that anyway, AW2 could hit numbers to lower the cut in no time.
There is a certain addictive quality to Remedy's games. I was adamant that I'm going to play through Rogue Trader during my Christmas leave, but lo and behold, I decided to start Alan Wake 1 on the whim, and throughout all Christmas, I've burned through all the Remedy games, including all Max Payne games, Control and Quantum Break and now I'm midway through Alan Wake 2.
I think it's the atmosphere, played through a lot of games this year and only Alan Wake 2 hooked me in a way where I just played nonstop until completion, was very luck I decided to wait a bit until my vacation starts because otherwise I would have fricked up my sleep schedule and social life
Alan Wake 2 does get a while to get going. Definately took me longer to get into the game compared to AW1 and Control, (hell, I've beaten Max Payne 1 in one sitting), but now I am in the Chapter 3 (I think, the one with Saga in Watery) and it starts to feel like both the story and the gameplay are starting to come onto their own, now that the tutorial training wheels are off. Needless to say, I'm hooked. (I am using too many parentheses),
yeah the start is slow but after it gets going it's great, the Alan parts were so cool I immediately ditched Saga and played through all of spooky New York then all of Saga's parts.
Alan's parts are definately more atmospheric and scratch that long neglected Vampire the Masquerade itch, but I kinda find Saga's parts more fun to play. There is something comfy about running around through Finnish forests that pretend to be Maine, ocassionally capping some random Taken.
I really liked sagas parts
To me the least appealing part of the game was the alan going to hotel
Interesting. To me the greatest parts were Poet's Cinema > Watery (slightly mispronounced Huotari) > Oceanview Hotel, while I didn't like the other main levels.
I grew up near green pine forests so looking at detailed forest sections with saga was a lot more relaxing than some red hotel corridor
the only parts I hated were the fricking Dark presence running away sequences
>you slightly fricked up a turn?
>enjoy the 13 years of loading in the fricking Dark place
surely no one could fair the running away more than 1-2 times
I think I failed each one a couple of times, can't remember all the times but at least once was because of a framerate drop. Wouldn't mind if the loading wasn't so fricking long.
>DP in hotel
>Door slams opens as I pass it
>Try to enter it to get away
>Die because that's not the way to go
think this is the first time I've ever seen a door randomly open in a chase sequence and either not be more enemies or the way to go
Only got to the first level of Alan in AW2. Does the game get better after the forest? That shit was horrendously boring and samey looking
the game has a slow start, play until you get to the Alan parts and see if you like it after that
>Does the game get better after the forest?
it doesn't
try to take your adderal earlier today so you can focus on the game instead of hopping onto Ganker after half an hour of gaming
You seem mad. Did that hurt
No like you see an extremely highly produced game with supernatural elements and such like and you cry boredom.
Well golly gee your brain is fricked up innit?
So it did hurt you. Say so next time.
just go take your meds please
Project harder you little crybaby
try to set yourself achievable goals like "next 15 minutes im going to play a video game instead of alt tabbing or touching my penis"
Well at least you little crybaby have proven me that the game isn't worth playing anymore
ITT: Sweet Baby Inc. employees talk to each other
I think before I buy any more big games from now on I'll just do a simple Google search
>Did Sweet Baby work on __________
After Spider-Man 2 I'm not buying anything else they worked on. I loved the first one and playing the second one felt off from the get go
see
sweet baby inc is in a lot of stuff now, many of their credits on mobygames are locked behind a paywall
fricking creepy shit
