Maybe in about 10 years when commercial engines have met with such diminishing returns that Godot can finally catch up. More or less like what happened with Blender.
i have the perfect artstyle in mind for my dream game but have no skills to put it into reality. even if i went with ps1 style graphics and just took photos for every textures i'd still end up with an eyesore unless i put a ton of atmospheric stuff everywhere. maybe i'm just pussying out, i already have a proof of concept done but i still feel like shit about keeping going

With all the goings on in Unity right now, I am a bit afraid to start investing time into it. Godot is good for 2d stuff, and unreal for 3d, Unity really was the middle ground here.
The future some people choose.
The same people that sulk in the darkness crying that they'll never make impressive games like the big guys, because they just don't have the manpower to do so.
And it's not like there are other more advanced tools available, no, that's not it. It must be their personal inability and lack of skill.
T-There have been big games using godot, right? Ah, yes, Sonic Colors Ultimarte used godot as a base, Sega is a big company! And the game.. well, it may have had some problems, but that says nothing about godot! Right?
Sorry, but you just make it too easy with those bold statements to ridicule you.
Yeah Godot is an option people are free to choose. It's probably good that it's free and open source.
Maybe it receives an improvement boom like blender 2.8 did.
But currently it just seems to be an option above game maker and below Unity / Unreal Engine.
Unreal is, most likely, never going away.
Anyone, who is just starting out in the industry, should go with Unreal, then Unity.
Independents should unironically check out Game maker and RPG maker first, to see if their tool suite matches what you want to do before going balls deep in a "big boy" engine.
Only enthusiasts and tech guys, who are already mature in the industry, should be looking outside of those.
>but could be o3de
Have you even looked at it? No docs at all. No community actually using it to feed back bugs. And for a long time they didn't even distribute binaries of it (maybe even still)
Is it good for 2d jump and run platformers? Thought about it, and there are already pre written modules for unity already. You have to pay though, but what's fifty quid if you can save days of your life.
>2d jump and run platformers
You could write the code for that in a day in monogame.
Literally anything that isn’t RPGMaker will let you shit out the mechanics for a platforms in no time.
They probably see the writing on the wall and want to cash out before they get inched out of the market. Unreal 5, Godot, Unity, GZDoom, and then this little pygmy thing responsible for Risk of Rain, Undertale, and Deltarune.

I can only imagine the hurdles the Ion Fury devs wouldn't have to surmount if they didn't tether themselves to Build

this
Platformers are the laziest type of game to make
I'm too braintlet for godot and programming in general probably. people tell me I gotta read but the documentation barely helps me. I just end up googling for a few hours to do 1 simple thing over and over
Godot in general will be easier as it takes a lot of work off your hands that LÖVE won't, that said, I switched from Godot to LÖVE and it's fricking wonderful.
godoT or godo
If it was godo they would have named it godo.
Guhdough
Like the Ace Attorney character.
isn't it godó?
Maybe in about 10 years when commercial engines have met with such diminishing returns that Godot can finally catch up. More or less like what happened with Blender.
it's objectively easier than ever and I still can't make a game
You can make a game anon. Start with something simple and follow a tutorial. Everything else will fall into place if you keep at it.
learning the engine is easy, making art and assets if fricking impossible what the FRICK
You don't need fancy art to make a game.

not the same anon but i think I need at least a small team to recreate something like morrowind which is like 20 years old already
only because unreal and unity keep shooting themselves
I made a game today without it.

tell me you at least used emscripten for this piece of shit

Jesus Christ how horrifying
It's an un-breathed t
>Behold the future of game development.
Lol is that your channel? You should really finish your game "anon"
ACK
>open source software has a bug and it is fixed by contributors
yeah, give it enough time and it will be a competitor for bigger projects.

The thing nobody mentions about the Sonic Colors remake is that the devs had to make their own custom Godot tools to get things done.
For me, it's the PGE.
Though are there any decent 3d graphics engines that are all code? I'm an autist and don't like working out of an editor.
>future
Lol, not anymore. Not after Sonic Colors remake.
It's not mature enough. It's ok to admit it.
could be godot, but could be o3de since it has industry support and is open source

Literally GameMaker.
I don't want to have to make some gay account to use a game engine
GameMaker has a subscription model
How times have changed
They even delisted perma licenses from Steam and said people who bought the permanent license won't be getting new updates eventually
They probably see the writing on the wall and want to cash out before they get inched out of the market. Unreal 5, Godot, Unity, GZDoom, and then this little pygmy thing responsible for Risk of Rain, Undertale, and Deltarune.

so, how many people waiting for the 4.0 beta? Also, did this pride month fish many discord bans?
I have no programming experience, should I learn Lua and use love2d or learn gdscript and use godot? Which language is easier for a beginner?
Godot in general will be easier as it takes a lot of work off your hands that LÖVE won't, that said, I switched from Godot to LÖVE and it's fricking wonderful.
>the coder responsible for physics cucked the Godot team mid development for a better job and they are left with a mess.
